  • does it only work with Macs but not windows?

    • +6

      Requirements:
      - Mac OS X Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard (Intel/PPC)
      - Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7 (32/64bit)
      - WIFI router (works best on a local area network or Ad hoc network)
      - Mobile Mouse Server Software

** BEFORE YOU RUN THE SOFTWARE ** you will need to download the server application from :

      http://www.mobilemouse.com

  • I have been using the logitech touch mouse app for a while but this looks better and rates better. Cheers OP.

Yeah ive been using this for a while, its pretty good. The 'air' thing is just a lame gimick but the touchpad and controls are quite user friendly.

      • i agree totally…

      • -4

not if you combine it as part of a HTPC, where you can sit on the lounge and activate a program to launch without stuffing about with wireless mouses and keyboards.

an app like this isnt just a 'gimmic', you just need to know how to apply it in a useful way.

I think Ambiguous was suggesting that the "air" feature is a gimmick, rather than the whole app itself.

          I agree though, it was a little… wait for it… ambiguous…

          Oh yeah I did…

Thanks Deano, but the "air" feature is the whole point of this app- wireless control of the pc.

The reason I dont think I misunderstood is because Ambiguous's post was quite clear in calling it lame. The only thing he 'liked' was the touchpad and controls… and that's a poor opinion on a very good app that is much more than a pretty touchpad. Even moreso because its now free. Edited: 'was' free :).

like usher said.. wasnt me! :)

        • I would agree that it's a fantastic feature and quite an important feature in the app however I think the fact that the developers themselves give a grand total of about 45 seconds describing and showing how to use the air feature, in a 10 minute "how to" video, and never refer back to it or show themselves using it after those first 45 seconds would suggest that it's A feature, not THE MAIN feature of this app.

I think calling this app "pretty good" and the touchpad/controls, which the developers themselves chose to spend 90+% of their time describing and demo-ing, as "user friendly" seems like a more than positive review of quite a good app.

Back to the point though, great app. Perfect for HTPC use, as UFO suggested.

        • very good point about promo video… i noticed that too :).

Mate the air feature isnt refering to the wireless factor, its refering to option to use the accelerometer to make the iphone an 'air mouse', moving the curser by moving the mouse in the air. And it doesnt work that well, since its really a tilt sensor as opposed to a movement one, making control clunky and difficult.

That being said, the interface, touchpad, and options are all extrememly handy. I use it myself with my HTPC, saving me from buying a wireless keyboard set and cluttering up my tv room.

To clarify, this app (in my opnion) is excellent, however the 'air' feature (which is NOT wireless, but rather an option of using the iphone like a regular mouse as opposed to a touchpad) is rather lame.

          Happier?

much…. thank you for taking the time to properly explain what you were meaning.

  • Impressive, can easily replace my mouse. You will probably need to leave your iphone in the charger while using it.

  • not as sensitive as the mouse

  • Probably the best remote (mouse) control app out at the moment.
Different apps also have different commands that are assigned which make it awesome for HTPCs.

  • thanks for the post :D

Or you could have an android phone and have this kind of app free forever.

    • Any Android recommendations?

  • I'm getting error message - 'Cannot connect to server'
I have downloaded the software from their website. What am I doing wrong?

    • The first download that I tried was faulty. Did yours install correctly?

Do you have WiFi and is it switched on (in the phone)?

      • Yep wi-fi is on. Not sure why not working.

        • Are you using MAC OS? You need to give permission in Settings to allow external devices.
See the trouble shooting page on the product website.

  • Excellent find. Working with my macbook pro. Cheers!

  • Nice … iPad to iMac (couldn't find my iPhone) - just not sure when I'd use it.

  • Must be popular as their site seems to have been OzBargained :p

    http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://www.mobilemous…

    • http://www.mobilemouse.com/ is fine from here :) … & mac users can just use the app stores anyway.

      • hmmm, must've been just a short outage…. maybe a screen cap would've been better :p

  • cheers mate looks good

  • App works - good stuff, shame about the external software required though but its inevitable I guess

Will also come in handy during bad hand cramps :P

    • What sort of activity do you do that leads to hand cramps?

I find actual air mice much more convenient than a program that runs on a general-purpose device.

With an actual air mouse, it works right away the moment i pick it up - no need to turn it on and unlock it. If you have to hook the phone up to a charger all the time so you don't have to turn the phone off, that's even more of a hassle.

I use a dell-branded Gyration remote for my HTPC - proper motion sensors, no need to turn it on and unlock it, and instant access to play/pause/ff/rw/volume/ch etc. Well worth the $40+$40 shipping IMHO.

That said, $0 is a good way for people to try out the concept first!
