Only1 Branded VISA $100 Gift Card - $100 @ Woolworths (Save $5.95)

1680

Limit 10 per customer in a transaction.

Very useful to buy with your discounted Woolworths eGift cards which you buy at 5% off at various places (apparently only works in some cases - terminals are being upgraded to stop this)

Alternatively buy these with Amex for no cost, get extra rewards points for spending on Amex and then use the prepaid Mastercard at stores where Amex is not available or has a higher surcharge. Note the number of rewards points you get with Amex vs Mastercard will vary depending on the card/s you have.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2018.

Ask the banks and ask retailers what their definition is first. Because ultimately it's them you are arguing the definition with.

        • +3

@Turd: it means whatever you do they cannot make enough money to cover their ass , then to reject you they call it Money laundering :)

        • @AllWins: Exactly ;)

  • +4

If you have an amex card it makes much more sense to just buy 10 cards and use them where amex is not accepted.

  • Am I missing something here or can you load these all up onto paypal, then withdraw from paypal into a bank account? All with no fees?

    • Yes you can, but dont do this.

      • any reason why ?

        • Your account will probably get limited.

        • @quirki:

You can always transfer it to a family member with a paypal account and get them to withdraw it.

        • +2

@nightelves: High fees. ~3.6%, not worth it

    • How can you load to Paypal with no fee?

      • You can not.

… any thoughts on the review of Only1 VISA Gift Card? - https://www.productreview.com.au/p/only-1-gift-card.html?rat…

    • Thanks for link

Looks better not to spend on this card

  • I have used them before and never had any trouble

  • This time is a bit different, always give bonus Woolworths points which is better in value.

  • Tried to pay with e-gift card and the machine says payment not allowed…

  • For Sydneysiders in the city, Woolies Town Hall had some left on the Ground floor when I went to buy one earlier. They expire January 2020

    • hi, did you use the self check out or operator? and what form of payment?

      • Operator and paid with my Amex as it's three points per dollar

        • Did you give any of the homeless there a donation?

        • +1

I see was wondering whether anyone has paid with e-gift card to save 5%

        • @sillycow:

No longer possible unless the store hasn't upgraded their registers yet :(

  • Local WW is really slow in activating the Only1 cards this morning. Anyone has same experience?

    • Mine was active when I checked on the Only 1 Gift Card site

      • What I mean is the activation after making payment in store. Staff told me it will take 2 mins per card. Pretty much 20 mins for 9-10 cards I bought in the transaction.

      • Are you sure? Normally I leave it for 24hours before checking it, it has been reported that if you check the card before 24hours, it could lead to invalid card. Maybe it is fixed now. I will try one now.

Scare campaign, blackhawk network is instant.
Only event cinemas gc has 24hr (non-usable) period :|

    • +1

Yes, mine took about 10 minutes, I am not exaggerating.

      • Same, it took pretty much 20 mins for 9-10 cards I bought in the transaction. Was on self serve. What about you?

        • I purchased 10 on self-serve this morning. Took 15 - 20 mins for the activity slips to generate. Painful wait.

It always took a while for the activity slips to generate, but never this long before. Something has changed on the timing front (I assume linked to the recent software changes that eliminated gift cards being able to be used to make a purchase).

        • yes, self serve

        • Self-serve as well.
Can confirm, 13-15 minutes or so.
          Wtf!?

  • bought 30x this morning, will be back tomorrow for another 30 :D

    • Points-junkie ? or Money laundary ? Joke :)

      • +1

        points of course

recently spent ~700k points for business class to Toronto & return.. need to start the hoarding again

        • Did you go to the self checkout and do 3 transactions?

        • And what do you use the 3k in Visa cards for? I'm keen to exploit the deal as well but with my local woolies not allowing gift card purchases with egift cards I need another way to recycle the Visa cards quickly but don't have that many imminent expenses

          @cheapfab:
I am spending mine on my water bill and my rates, both don't take amex. My water bill is paid so I will have to go into credit on my account but I don't mind doing that.

        • @cheapfab:

similar to yoyo6, rates, strata, utilities, iinet, private health insurance to name a few

        • @cheapfab: buy Sydney property with it!!! :)

        • +1

Dude that many points would have gotten you round the world with points to spare. Alaska Airline does 70k first class to America and Canada with Cathay Pacific.

        • +1

          @nightelves:
It’s actually 80k butvstill the best value for Aus to NA.

        • @potm:

You’re right it’s 80k with Cathay but with Qantas it’s only 70k which is a bargain.

        • @nightelves:
Being a one world bronze I couldn't get availability.

Also no time to do a RTW though would've loved to. And this is for 5 pax all in J.

Also didn't want to go direct as we have a 2.5yo so plenty of breaks to split the trip up

        • @daft009:

Have a look at other frequent flyer awards as you can get cheaper award redemptions and low taxes e.g. Alaska Miles, Cathay Pacfic, American Airlines to name a few. Qantas charges way too much taxes.

        • @nightelves: my program of choice is krisflyer.

so went to another store today at lunch and they wouldn't sell me more than 5/day gaah. had around 150-200x $100 on the shelf!

even rang woolworths help desk and said it is in deed upto the store manager

        • @daft009:

          Self serve checkout.

        • @nightelves: redirected me to a manned checkout

        • @nightelves: Alaska is good but there is no way to transfer points to that program except via SPG travel package which is no longer a viable option after the devaluation.

        • @samehada:

Marriott Rewards is still a partner of Amex last I check and I’m pretty sure they’re a transfer partner of Alaska Airlines as well.

        • @nightelves: yes they are still partner but the transfer ratio now is very rubbish.

It is better to transfer to Asiamiles but Cathay also charge a very high YR carrier surcharge unless the flight originated from HK.

        • @samehada:

So there IS way a to transfer to Alaska then. Well here I thought you can’t.

  • Can I use WW eGift card to purchase this Visa gift card?

    • +1

most places no longer allow payments by egift card

      • Thanks

      • My local store still does

    • No problems doing this at self serve at my local woolies about 20 mins ago. Only concern was cards took 5 mins to activate.

      • Which store please?

        • -2

prefer not to say immediately as I wish to buy some more when I receive my new egift card. It is a store in south east melbourne

        • @Webbo: Quite lucky, in Sydeny I cannot find a WWS store that can use my physical wish gift card to purchase any gift card, always show item not allow.

      • It took almost 5 mins for me too. North east melb though. The checkout assistant was aldy trying to force shutdown the terminal when the receipt finally comes out.

        • how many cards were you buying?

  • Thanks, just purchased 300 to pay off HECS.

    • +1

Any idea if this stacks with staff discount ?

      • it does. I am staff.

        • Thanks mate
Will ask my friend who’s a staff. Is that 5% ?

any problems/restrictions if we buy around 2-3k with staff discounts ?

        • +2

          @spk:
I think that may be slightly risky. They can terminate staff for misuse of the staff discount.

      • F***, what do I do now?

        • Use it on regular transactions

  • are there charges to pay HECS by only 1 visa?

    • No longer possible

  • Worked with gift cards 5606, took a good minute or two for each to activate though - you gotta be a little shameless to wait at the register for that long.

Staff required to verify prior to selecting payment method (gives them a note saying to confirm the visa cards activated correctly after sale).

    Edit:
Did 5 the second time and it got stuck on activation screen, took a good 5-10 minutes though eventually went through… Maybe do one at a time.

  • Just heard at my local store that selling out very fast, when I was there lots of people were around the gift card unit. The store was telling me some of the self checkouts are crashing if people buy more than 10 in a transaction making things a bit slow

    • I bought 10 at sydney townhall and had to wait 15 minutes.

    • None at Woolies Central Park in Chippendale, NSW

  • This is the golden goose everyone is taking about!!

  • Question to experts here:
Do we still get 3 points(on AMEX Platinum edge) on WW eGift card purchases via cashrewards ?

    • It seems so, my egiftcard purchase yesterday did get 3pts so it maybe just a system glitch from 23-26-Aug. You need to keep checking your points to be sure.

  • It took me almost half a hour to activate 10 cards in one transaction.

    • 4 cards. Wait time: 13 minutes. Grateful to find stock considering these are getting snapped up

    • 5 cards ~10 minutes. Worth. Used eGift cards.

Plenty in stock (50+ easily), 5606.

  • Why are these cards so good anyway?
If you cannot pay with the eGiftcards the only benefit is points for buying them (for Amex) unless you are Woolworths staff and you get a discount.
Is it worth the hassle and long wait for activation?
    Or am I missing something?

    • Some people think the points/hassle is worth it.

      • Hardly…
Unless you can buy them with egiftcards

  • Yep 4 cards almost 10 mins activation time.

    Looks like it's nationwide

    Still. Don't get why it's so popula4
Back when there was $10 off, it was about the same in popularity

Especially now that egift cards don't work

    • there's a limit usually of 1 per rewards card. sky is the limit now.

      • Not with Woolies they've rarely had limits on gift cards

        • +1

yeah, maybe spk is thinking of coles + flybuys with the 1 per card limit.

Any WWS stores in NSW still accept using wish gift card to purchase only 1 gift card? Cannot find one in the Sydney, how about regional area?

    • +1

Are you seriously going to travel from Eastwood to say Tuggerah or Grafton just to be able to use your Wish Gift Card in order to buy an Only 1 Gift Card? :/

Also no one refers to Woolworths as WWS; it's Woolies …

      • People still call it safeways.

        • Safeways? Haven't heard that one.

I've heard people refer to it as Safeway though.

      • I can go to newcastle or gosford as I need to travel to north regional area of NSW in the weekend. I had $1500 Woolworths Wish card that can convert to only 1 gift card.

        • +1

you probably need to convert to more than 1 gift card. 😂

  • eGiftcard still working at my local…(Brisbane)

    • -1

      Where is it?

  • so no way to consolidate them to bigger denomination ?
