Only1 Branded VISA $100 Gift Card - $100 @ Woolworths (Save $5.95)

1680

Limit 10 per customer in a transaction.

Very useful to buy with your discounted Woolworths eGift cards which you buy at 5% off at various places (apparently only works in some cases - terminals are being upgraded to stop this)

Alternatively buy these with Amex for no cost, get extra rewards points for spending on Amex and then use the prepaid Mastercard at stores where Amex is not available or has a higher surcharge. Note the number of rewards points you get with Amex vs Mastercard will vary depending on the card/s you have.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2018.

I just noticed, Officeworks sell Only 1 cards, so you can price match to get 5% off because this offer is for a flat discount to $100 and they have not adjusted their pricing! Making it $95 for the $100 card.

    • +1

How many will they allow though

      • Up to 10 probably, as that's what Woolies enforces. Just go to different stores if you want, and order them over the phone too.

    • Does platinum edge earn 3ppd @ officeworks though?

      • +1

It does for DJs Amex apparently

    • Do you think it would be possible to pay for them using coles myer GCs?

      • I'm not 100% sure unfortunately, alongside the plat edge comment, I hope people can chime in quickly!

      • Pretty sure, no. Staff will say not allowed.

        • +2

OK! I managed to buy 4 using a Coles/Myer gift card which I got from the Vogue Fashion Night promo (I just pretended it was a normal credit card). I then came back later and bought more using the ones I bought earlier. I did this again at another store. I pushed my luck and was denied at the third store (they had 36 in stock!!).

In all I bought 23, recycled 12, and ended up with 11 for 27% off overall :D

          This ends tomorrow, YMMV.

    • +1

      Out of the box
Such a busy week going to woolworths to get one visa, Coles for the gift MasterCard, Westfield for the vogue

  • +17

Woolies have pretty much closed the eGift card trick now, but this is great for woolies group staff to get 5% off.

    • Are you sure. I was definitely able to do it two week ago at the self serve terminal.

      • Trxn not allowed

      • +3

Definitely, see here, it's happened for heaps of people

      • +4

not yet at self-checkout but update is being rolled out, just a matter of time. Second bad news is Amex now won't get 3 points anymore from ~24-Aug when you buy egift card.

It is not Amex that change it, it is WW that change the merchant code for egift card order, you now can only get 3 points at WW supermarket only. [27 Aug - This comment has been edited]

        • You can't say that. I used one today and it didn't work.

        • @Turd: upgrade is being rolled out for self-checkout so the store you tried probably has been upgraded. Just try another store.

        • +4

@samehada: tried another store and didnt work as well.

          Sydney house prices are falling!!

        • @Turd: in that case then maybe they have blocked all for Only1, it has been since last week at least. Still works for other gc at self checkout for now.

        • +1

Disappointing news about the triple points. May I ask how you know this? Did you purchase an eGift card after the 24th?

        • I bought only1 last tuesday with egift at self-serve no problems. Will be disappointing if my run is over.

        • You're right, just checked, didn't get 3x points on my plat edge!

        • @billybrown:

Is the new Amex Membership Rewards points earn for an eGift card purchase on the Plat Edge now 1:1 (it was 3 to 1 before this enhancement)?

        • +3

          @New Chump:
          Yes.

(it was 3 to 1 before this enhancement)

          Not an enhancement. :(

        • @Turd: negative. it didn't work for you.

        • This is actually quite shocking. Why has WW changed the merchant code? How does it hurt them to have Amex pay 3 points/$?

        • Well, that sucks. Just bought one today with Amex over the wife's card for the triple points.

What's worse is that means it'll only get 0.5 points/$, not even 1…

Edit: Hopefully still triple points, pending txn is listed as groceries still like a direct woolies one, will have to wait and see.

        • I bought eGift cards with my Amex on 24th and got 3 points. Just bought another then to see if I still get 3 points or if it has dropped - will probably know in a day or so. If I still get 3 points it means that to buy the prepaid Mastercard I get equivalent of 8.5% extra value based upon buying an eGift card with my rewards points, otherwise it would drop to half that (there are better value rewards than that, but just using that one for simplicity). Still not a bad deal it you only get 2 points now.

        • +3

@syba: just wanted to say thanks for idea of converting amex - I need to spend $3k on amex and wasn't sure I could make it. Cheers!

        • @syba:
24th purchase egift showing as triple points for you?
          Mine's showing as 1pt per dollar :|

        • +2

          @cwongtech:
          Yep :

Date Description Amount Spent Points Earned
          24/8/2018 EVERYDAY GIFT CARD 6673 BELLA VISTA $237.50 713

        • +1

@cwongtech: Sorry I was quick to comment on this. Let me clear it up, my transactions on 23-Aug has 3x but 1 transaction on that same date only get 1x, and all transactions after that date only get 1x. So something must have been happening on 23-Aug before that transaction was posted.

At this point in time I am not so sure if this is just a technical glitch or is it really WW sneakily done something on their payment processing end. If it is still 3x pts in WW shop then it means it is the end of Plat Edge card. If it is WW who really did this then nothing can be done by Amex.

First the devaluation of SPG and now this, I am not sure if I should keep the Plat Edge card.

        • +2

@samehada: Amex are looking into it

        • @Turd: Just applied for plat edge on Friday to get more points + 50,000 signup bonus points.

        • @spk: did you use a ozb referral?

        • @spk: ahh cool. Enjoy the card. Remember only 2 amex per person unless..

        • @Turd: sorry what do you mean by 2 per person

        • @spk: You can only have two Amex-issued Amex cards

        • @kerfuffle: as a primary ?

        • @spk: Yep

        • @kerfuffle: ah ok. got one primary on my name and other primary on my wife's name

        • +2

Mine on 29 today shows 3 points. Bought on 27th

        • @spk: To be more specific, you can have a maximum of 2 Credit Cards and 1 Charge Card.

        • @illumination: I assume it's 2 primary credit cards.

        • @spk: Correct

Supplementary cards do not count to the quota

          27/08/2018 EVERYDAY GIFT CARD 6673 BELLA VISTA $95.00 285 0 285

        • @josho9:
Same. I got triple points on purchase on 27/8. I think it may depend on what specific card you have. I have Black Altitude.

      • So buying this visa card at the supermarket will still attract 3 x $100 for 300 points correct? It's just buying the egift cards won't get 3 x points anymore?

        • +2

Confirmed you still get 3points if buying egiftcard via Cashreward. I bought it yesterday and still got 3 points from amex today.

    • Any more details? How they stop you using egift card?

      • +4

They employed some smart IT person and got them to fix the back end. This is to stop money cycling and laundering

        • They're slowing closing all the loopholes for the MS people.

    • +1

It still depend on who serves you at that time. I have not had any problems with buying GC by WW eGC at Town Hall, Liverpool, Miranda and Macathur Square Woolworth (Sydney region).

      • +1

Manual checkout will not work, you will get transaction not allowed error

        • You're right! Just tried today and it showed Item Not Allowed :( The cashier had no idea what's going on as well

        • +2

@kendo: Just bought 10 X $100 VISA gift cards from Sydney Town hall along with $20 worth of groceries.. just tried split payment with gift card and was able to pay $200 with gift cards and the rest with Amex.

Should've purchased the gift cards earlier. Wasn't confident if it works after reading the comments here.
Lucky got the 5% staff discount.

        • @spk: Thanks. I will try it again tomorrow. I got staff discount as well and this deal is super sweet for all my bills.

    • does the gift card payment work if I have other items in my cart along with the gift card I am trying to purchase?

      • Nope. trxn not allowed

    • Get a casual postition there to get the staff discount card. I wonder what qualifications they require for job as trolley pusher ? Lol

      • trolley pusher is contractor not employed by woolies, so no discount

    • Just bought 3 cards using egift card at self serve terminal. Got my woolies discount too. $300 worth of visas for $270 is not bad.

  • Cant pay ATO. Sorry

    • +25

      iTunes is their preferred payment

      • Perfect, 15% off at the moment

    • Why can't you pay the ATO? According to the link below you can with only a 0.15% surcharge (which is also tax deductable).

      https://www.ato.gov.au/general/paying-the-ato/how-to-pay/oth…

      • +2

ATO and/or Only1 seem to have “blocked” the use of Only1 cards to pay ATO bills earlier this year…..

  • Where is the deal?
    Just shows cards???

    • +4

      $100 Gift Card + $5.95 Issue Fee = $105.95

A few weeks back when Woolworths had the ultimate teens cards promo I bought $1000 worth using Woolworths eGift cards (two transactions of $500). No issue using the eGift cards, however, manager came over to me at the self-serve checkout and asked me if I was ok and was I buying these to pay the ATO. I started laughing and told them that no, I wasn't, they were for book week prizes at the local primary school (a lie, they were for use at JB HiFi).

      • +6

        Bro

    • +28

Everyone knows the ATO only takes itunes vouchers.

      • -2

        Sorry. I didn't know this.
So I should stock up iTunes cards to pay for my tax now ?

        • You should!

        • +7

In case you are serious, please don't

  • +15

    So what you're paying $100 for $100. I'm wondering where's the bargain?.

    • +1

It's a joke post that's slipped through the mods' cracks.

    • +1

      5%

    • +1

      Save the $5.95 fee

      • +5

        That's no bargain.

        • +1

          I didn't upvote

    • +2

Some people chase points so this is a great way to earn points or do those new spending limits to get more points

    • +4

If Woolworths accepts the use of e-gift cards for the purchase of these, then a $100 e-gift card (only $95 via cashrewards) gives you $5 for ‘free’. If you have an AMEX which gives 3 points per dollar spent at supermarkets, you can also accrue points this way (subsequently using the visa gift card to spend at other places)

      • +2

Some do most don't accept egc now. Trxn not allowed

    • +2

Another use is to use them online … some sites/apps like uber give you a sign up bonus, but restrict your ability to create new accounts via unique emails/phone number/credit cards.

Pre-paid credit cards help circumvent the unique credit card check (of course, that's only until divipay starts working again).

  • Looking to convert few of my physical wish cards into these. Where can Only1 VISA gift cards not be used?

    • Ato

      • Can I use them to pay a bill online with Post BillPay?

        • Yes

        • @Turd: Great, thanks!

        • @Turd: Is there a surcharge using Only1 VISA gift cards for Post BillPay?

        • @Turd: thanks

  • I haven't found a way to effectively use these VISA gift cards.

There seems to be no way to consolidate the balance on multiple gift cards. Or to spend > the gift card amount and pay the remainder on another card.

This means that you will spend most of the credit on the gift card, but then find that you have a small remaining credit of, say $1.75, that you cannot really do anything with.

    • +7

I've never used these but if they work like visa cards, surely you can part pay with them and put the remainder on another card?

    • +7

You can do split/part payments at woolies/coles/big w, etc. Not that difficult.
