I called them up to follow up on my application that was on the 5th.
They called back later with 8 questions regarding my rent and past cards and how much I spend.
They then said they have to do more checks.
Called back again saying that I can only be approved for 5K instead of 10K.

My credit rating is ~650 and I earn 150+ a year. I have 3 cards with a total limit of 25k and about 1500 owing which I clear every month.

This bank has done way too many checks compared to the previous applications.
    Amex was the best!

  • Got a call back from a branch. Went over some questions with the loan manager. Said he'll get back to me after he goes through the sums. Seemed positive…

Next step would be to bring the completed application and relevant docs.

  • Requested for only $3000 credit. Application still unsuccessful despite ticking all the requirements.. Never been rejected for credit card. Only have one at the moment as well.

  • Just wonder if the 116 + voters all got approved? If not why you vote + while it's so high on rejection rate?

  • Finally got a call from them asking my expenses look low and asked me to provide bank statement etc..decision is still pending though..

  • Just received a call from them to enquire about my previous credit card applications from ANZ, ST George and Westpac all within the past 12 months. Needed to give an explanation for each as to why they were closed.. Application was approved 10mins after though.

    • What explanation did you give them about applying for the cards and closing them?

      • +1

Told them i was applying for a home loan and was advised to cancel my credit cards

  • just got approved!!!!!

  • I have a number of large items to spend coming up which would take me to the $2K, to get the additional $500 could I just pay $500 onto my phone bill??

I don't see that it is excluded, but unsure if they wouldn't count this due to the fraudulent risk (you could ask the telco for the money back after you cancel the card I guess).

    • yes that will work fine, nothing wrong with putting phone bill in credit

  • got rejected - despite massive cash savings and full time employment with six figs.

  • Application unsuccessful. No debt and a few applications for other cards this year. Ordered by credit report from Equifax to check what was up. Not clear why… as with others, I suggest doing this application in a branch if you’re worried you’ve had to many cards of late / limits are too high.

    Approved :)

Had a grilling on the phone from the applications team asking about my last 6 or so cards.

  • Just got approved. was asked by the applications team about my another 2 cards.

  • +1

Arrghh I really can't decide if I want to apply or not. I can get the ANZ Black QFF again at the end of October, so perhaps I'm being greedy considering this.

I think I'll apply in branch and practice beforehand my phoney reasons for the other 8 applications this year.

  • Does this card charge fees on overseas transactions? I couldn't find it in their T&C's (which are a little unwieldy..)
I'm looking for a replacement for my Bankwest Qantas Platinum card.

  • For what its worth ive churned and burned through about 5 cards in the last 12 months and just got approved.

They called to ask about all of my previous CC applications and i just stated that i wasn't happy for with the customer service i received from the other banks and had subsequently closed down those accounts.

Currently have two other CCs still open but they are zero annual fee cards so i told Bendigo i don't really use but just keep them open for emergencies cause they are free.

    Good luck guys.

  • Pain to get approve….still processing… !! Not Suggest!!!

  • Hi Guys. I applied online and it couldn't verify my name so it told me to go to a branch. Applying at a branch they wanted me to provide 3 months statement for my bank account, other credit card and superannuation fund. Did you have to provide all that when you applied online? I've never been asked to provide so many docs for a credit cars.

    • Wow over the top for only a platinum card.

      • That's what I thought. Did people that got approved online have to provide all these docs?

        • I had to send 2 pay slips and evidence of a bank balance at ING, which I did via email.

I'm curious, why do they want superannuation info?

    • Found it abit strange.

Though I only had to provide the last 3 pay slips as well as 6mth statement of my everyday account amongst other things.

All up it took about 1/2hr in the branch. Manager was nice enough. Bit of a backlog so will see if it's approved in a cple of wks.

  • Got approved today. They called me and asked questions about current cards. I had to stretch the truth a bit (read: lot).

  • I applied almost 2 weeks ago and still haven't been assessed. I actually called up to cancel the application, but was told the credit check would have already happened so I left it.

For when they do finally call I've got a print out record of all my credit cards this year with a "Bendigo justification" column, at the ready.

  • +1

I finally got approved after a 2 week wait. I had to answer a lot of questions about my previous credit cards and my monthly spending. Seems a bit over the top for a $3k limit platinum card.

  • Finally got approved after 2 weeks. They also asked me about by credit cards I already had.

  • Has anyone received the card yet? How long did it take for you?

I received the "Dispatched" sms around 3-4 weeks ago and still haven't received it!

  • +1

Finally approved after more than 2 weeks since applying. They didn't even call me, which is surprising given this is my 10th application in the last 12 months! I'm almost disappointed about that cos I had my excuses ready.

  • Said they posted the card 7 days ago. Still not received (metro Melbourne)

  • This is going to sound stupid but, how do I pay this credit card off?
I tested sending $1 to BSB: 633000 Account: 7xxxxxxxx last week but it hasn't come through.

  • Received the call that it has been approved.

  • Card has arrived and now takes pride of place in my wallet as this month's card of choice!

Evidence does certainly suggest that Bendigo was more ruthless when assessing the first applications which came through just after this promo was announced. By waiting a while to apply, yes it lengthened the assessment time (with the backlog), but seems to have been the safer option.

  • Well one whole week after (submitting my application, getting the "provisionally approved" email and uploading my two pay slips)… I got an SMS from Bendigo Bank saying they've received my application, have a backlog and will let me know soon when my application will be looked at…

  • Got approved on the spot. For anyone wondering only have 1 other credit card with $6000 credit limit, credit score of around 800 and income under $50k. Was pleasantly surprised :)

  • Still waiting for a final verdict after 10 days. Also received the backlog sms.

    • +1

Mine took 17 days, but it was worth the wait. Good luck to you.

      • Maybe hold fire on the enthusiasm until you see points. I've met the spend requirement and have yet to receive any points, let alone the bonus and it's been 6 weeks and 4 phone calls later. I think these guys will make it hard as possible to get cheap points. Dudes on AFF battled for months to get their dues during the last BB promotion.

        • +1

Thats probably not all that unusual - I found ANZ to be very speedy with the bonus points, as was Amex. However both St George and Westpac had to wait something like 2-3 months. I believe most banks in their terms for the offer state something like it may take up to 60 or 90 days to come through after you've met the requirements.

          • @Remorhaz: Just confirming your findings. ANZ and AMEX were fast, St George and Westpac were slow.

  • Approved.

Had to supply pay slips, current CC statements and transaction account statement.

Also had to close my hsbc card which I opened this year for that Qantas promo. I was fine with that.

Applied for my partner 21st Oct, no reply for a week and a half, got her to go into branch. Took her details and ID and told her she will get a call back, no call back, she went in again fee days later, seen a different person, same thing, said she would call back, no call. Today she has cancelled her application with bendigo and voiced her feedback. Poor service especially seeing that others have had better on here.

    • Yeah mate I'm nearly at 3 weeks since I applied and still haven't had a verdict, think I'm just going to cancel it as I could've been on another card and spending by now. Pretty ordinary.

  • +1

The call back as part of this sign up process was weird. Questions about previous cards and credit checks as if you remember most of that stuff!! I have no debt (and no assets really), do have decent savings but the thing they seemed hung up on was that my expenses for the card were only estimated to be around 1k per month… when i increased that closer to 2k (reading between the lines of our conversation and the line of questioning) the agent seemed more content without directly saying anything then 24hrs later was approved. So it seems like they have a criteria specifically to do with the amount of spend on the card, not just your financial/liability position.

  • +1

Well having applied way back on Oct 12th - today I finally got an email from them (Nov 3rd) approving my card (I didn't get any calls or emails for more info or anything)

  • has anyone had luck in getting the signup bonus points?

    • I've yet to receive my card!

  • +1

I just got my points, and I got an extra 20k on top - I'm not sure how, or why?
    Screenshot

edit: for reference, i applied for the card on 5th september, was approved by the 7th september, received/activated on the 14th september.
i met eligible spend sometime in the past 4 weeks

  • +1

I also got 20,000 extra points!

    • +1

The additional 20,000 points is a separate Qantas run promotion that earned you 10,000 for every Qantas earning card you took out between July and September. Folk on AFF have earned up to 50,000 points.

  • got my 80K points, but no bonus points…did you guys signup or register on qantas for this promo?

Between closing this card will be a pain - as they don't close the account over the phone..you have to visit a branch to close the card…fill a form…the card will be closed after 14 days etc etc…. back to the dark age!!

    • yes, you had to have registered for the promo on the QF website prior to applying for any Qantas associated credit card. Original link is here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/395374

    • When did you meet the spend criteria?

I met mine at the end of October (have spent 4000+). Annual Fee was taken out Nov 3 which is also the statement date. Still yet to receive bonus points.

      • Just received my points today… Roughly 30 days after spend criteria met.

    • There's an update to the T&C's on my statement:

"Effective 01 January 2019 we will accept your request to either terminate your credit card contract or reduce your
credit card limit via a secure email when you log in to e-banking. If there is more than one account holder, we will
accept this request from any one of you."

But it also says you need to return your card?

Cancellation or suspension of credit card facility
17.1 You can cancel your credit card facility at any time by:
      a) telling us in writing that you want to, which includes via secure email – by logging into e-banking; and
      b) returning your Bendigo Credit Card and all additional Bendigo Credit Cards issued on your card account;
      and
      c) paying any debit balance of your card account (plus any amounts accrued or charged, but not yet debited
      to your card account).

  • Got my first statement today. Is there anywhere on the statement that shows how many QFF points you have earned or bonus points? I can't seem to find anything on the statement.

    • +2

No. But have you received any points to date? Bendigo seem to transfer points earned on a weekly basis. If not, your QFF probably isn't linked correctly.

    • as stated below you should get a transfer from bendigo every week

      Mines has been topping up.

Reached close to 3.5k of spending but haven't seen the 80k points ye

  • +1

Bonus points have landed. Time to close. Apart from the big delay to have my application assessed (which the staff have apologised for multiple times), I've actually enjoyed Bendigo, and I'm considering moving my home loan.

Every person I've spoken to on the phone is firstly, Australian, but also very pleasant.

Not sure about this business of physically handing back the card to close though. I have no problems visiting a branch as there is one not far from my work, but I like to collect old credit cards. First world problem!
