ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Card - 80,000 Bonus Velocity Points ($225 Annual Fee)

2451

Usual criteria applies (not held same card within last 12 months, minimum spend) - read T&C for details.

Original source is an email from Virgin/Velocity I just received.

I don't think I've seen a sign up bonus this high on this card - I signed up a while back at 60,000.

Been happy enough with this card (and been travelling so much) that this is one of the very few cards I have kept longer than 12 months.

EDIT given some comments/suggestions.
Some key features and why I've kept the card past the first year - no forex fees, domestic return flight with Virgin (selected routes - options are shown on ANZ website), Virgin lounge passes x2. You can use BPay and still earn points, which is something many cards seem to be lacking nowadays.

You earn 1.5 ANZ Rewards points per dollar spent up to $2K/month. This converts to 0.75 Velocity points but can be transferred to other airlines too. What I personally do is sit on the points until there's a bonus offer from Velocity to transfer points over - 15% bonuses are very often, which ANZ normally matches bringing it to 30%. But once a year there seems to be a 15% bonus by Velocity, which ANZ increases by 35%, meaning a total of 50% more points. This can push the card past 1 point per dollar (0.75 x 150% = 1.125)

    • I have had zero issues in 6 countries using this card. Clearly your experience isn't representative

    • +2

I just travelled through 20 countries in the Middle East and Europe and had no issues at all. You can login online and email the anz system to notify where you will be travelling

  • how far can you fly with 80k velocity points roughly? and can this be change to QFF points by any chance?

    • One-way business with Singapore Airline to S.E.A with a complimentary stopover in Singapore.

      • +2

A stopover in Singapore will cost US$100 on a Krisflyer one-way business saver award flight. Stopover is only complimentary if you book a round-trip (i.e., return) business saver award flight.

  • Minimum spend??

    • $1500

      • within 3 months

  • what does 80000 ANZ point get you?

I'm new to the point world and not familiar with these.

Can they be transferred to SPG/Marriot?

    • it's 80,000 velocity points, not ANZ. Velocity points are worth more than ANZ rewards points

    • +1

Usually 5 economy returns between Sydney and Melbourne.

  • If I closed my last travel adventurers card in June 2017 I should definitely be eligible for this right?

    • Yes based on 12 months exclusion period.

    • Yes

"Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card within the previous 12 months."

    • Should be. I'm wondering how strict they are though, I only closed mine at the start of this year.

      • +1

ANZ are very strict on the 12 months exclusion period.

        • I was a couple of days too quick reapplying for my QFF black card and they initially didn't give me the bonus points, but came around when i asked about it. So I guess it depends on your definition of very strict.

  • Hi guys, I closed the ANZ FF Black card last month. Will I still be eligible for this?

    • Yes, QFF and VFF are different and have different conditions. You are not eligible only if you hold the adventure cards in the last 12 months.

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card within the previous 12 months.

    • You are eligible as the card you got (signature black) is a different rewards type to this (ANZ travel).

    • yes you'll still be able to get this deal

  • I actually got my card last week….This is really frustrating.

  • +1

What if you had ANZ black rewards card and closed within 12 months. Can I still apply for this and get the bonus points?

    • as per @homr

    • yes

    • following

    • Was about to post the same thing to quadruple check.

I think the answer is yes, but would like to have it clarified.

Also, same question but currently hold ANZ black rewards card

  • This seems pretty good to me.

Am looking to fly the family (2xAdults, 1xChild, 1xInfant) from MEL to Cairns next year. The Flights will be roughly $1250 in total return if I were to book today.
If I take up this offer, I can get 1 return flight included, plus the 80K VFF points should then cover the other adult and child fares.

$225 rather than $1250 looks to be a good deal!

    • as long as you can book your flight on the dates you want to go.
it's not the same availability as Virign.

    • +1

You need to book 60days in advance to take up the free flight.

    • The complimentary return flight can be used to book for multiple people ?

Looking to book for me and my wife, can I book with only one open card ?

      • No, one free return flight.

  • I hold the ANZ black card. will I be eligible for this. reading the TC looks like I am.

    • +1

      Yes

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card within the previous 12 months.

      • I don’t know why you even bother. You’ve basically answered the same thing for people too lazy to read and need to be spoond fed.

        • +13

I'm just assisting fellow oz bargainers.

    • You are, had both black rewards and anz travel, got points for both.

  • -1

where do i enter my velocity membership number

    • "Eligible account holders will be contacted by ANZ to supply their Velocity details" - on the offer page maybe 2/3rds way down

  • I got rejected for this card about 2 months ago due to outgoing expenses being too high compared to salary (which has since changed and can show evidence). Anyone know the likelihood of getting approved if applying again?

    • +4

Can you try it and let us know?

  • Anyone know if I can resell the domestic flight? Or does it have to be claimed in your own name?

    • +3

Your own name for this one. Not the same as Amex's.

      • Thanks mate and Thanks OP!

I understand there are no foreign transaction fees, but does anyone know what the forex rates on this are usually like? Are they comparable to 28 degrees?

    • +1

Visa's rates which are available online if you google.

Just like 28D uses Mastercard's rates which are also available online to find

  • Lounge passes are for domestic flights only.

How can the link in the post is ending with "?sourcecode_1=EAFJ"
    Is this someone's referral link?

    • anz's internal ref link

      • -1

I see, so its staff's ref link?

  • -2

    https://www.productreview.com.au/p/velocity-rewards.html

Check it out, very hard to reddem their velocity point. I try to redeem at bp fuel, got rejected at bp station staffs 3

    • +7

Redeeming at BP is terrible value, even worse than redeeming for gift cards.

      • How can you redeem for the giftcard? Apparently they dont have much option for me to redeem.

        • Convert to KrisFlyer. Then easily worth $800 redemption.

        • -5

@Peck: what can you do with Krysflyer point? And what is conversion rate?

FYI, I have transferred $50 worth of flybuy to the velocity because of the 15% bonus promotion. And guess what, it is only $40 worth of velocity after all bonus including 15% and 1 off new account bonus.

Notwithstanding, the flight/car rental/ hotel all price jacked and all other tricks eg fees for wrong name, fee for booking, no luggage etc

        • @DanielTran20:

If you want to get into the points game, I suggest you research points lol

Redeem it for outright (not ‘upgrade’) business class and first class international flights for best value

        • @budgetgaming:

Problem is very hard to redeem after all hardwork you did to accumulate that much points

        • @DanielTran20:

It’s not hard at all. Did business return to Europe on Etihad and then first return too. Like I said do your research. The only person limiting you is you

  • +2

Additional Cardholder fee is a bit steep, $10 + $55 rewards fee. Great card though.

    • Not really a great card for getting an additional cardholder anyway, as after $2000/month the points earn drops to the equivalent of 0.25 Velocity/dollar.

However, for a solo user this is a great card, I've held it two years and intend keeping it for the foreseeable future.

  • +7

Applied - the 60 second assessment seems like a waste since they'll just ask for documents anyway which adds on an extra 1-2 days.

Would be better to just go straight through to request for docs and give a 24-48 hour assessment period.

  • +1

Called Anz asking for this promotion, they said it's targeted to the ones who received this email

    • This is a worry if it indeed is only targeted now they will only call those who were to get their velocity number.

Might hold off till next month and see if anyone gets it credited.

    • +3

That's not what the terms and conditions on the website say. No mention of email.

      1. Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account through the ANZ offer promotional website (https://www.anz.com.au/promo/personal/credit-cards/anz-rewar…) by 31/10/2018 and who make $1500 of net eligible purchases within the first three months of approval.
      • So this appears to not be targeted?

  • Can you book the free flight for a family member and/or anybody else?

    • Just saw the answer above. Your own name

  • Can you earn anz reward points on Government bills? Eg rego, council rates, fines etc…?

  • +1

Link is dead for me, has it already been Ozbargained?

"Unfortunately the promotional offer you have selected cannot be found or has expired."

  • +1

This is a great card. Been using it since the initial 60k signup bonus 2 years ago.

Complimentary return trip is great. used it for a Christmas period domestic flight with no issues.

  • Does anyone who has the card know what qualifies as eligible purchases? CC noob here. Gonna get this one as my first just for the velocity points!

    • Interested to know what is an eligible purchase too..

  • They also have an ANZ marketplace similar to Qantas and Velocity have where you click through for extra points etc, ive never used it in the past but maybe I could try it to get it to stack with cashback.

  • It says the card is unavailable anyone else getting this?

    • Yep. Must've pulled the promo as it appears to have meant to be targeted.

  • I am (almost) livid! I waited over 12 months and finally gave up on holding out for an offer for this card…
As i'm travelling in a few months i bit the bullet and applied, only to have this offer sitting in my emails this morning.
I called ANZ as they haven't finalised my application to see if they would honour this deal, but they say it's linked to the application form/link you originally use and i'd need to re-apply and take another credit hit.

Has anyone ever escalated enough to get the bank to just approve a promotion? I know how call centres work etc but i'm not usually a very angry person on the phones, just want to see if it's worth persuing before deciding whether or not to re apply.

Don't really want to take another credit hit (have a good score already) but potentially getting a home loan in the next 6-12 months so don't want to screw it up!

    • I tried to do something very similar…they said I would need to apply via the link per the promo. Nothing they could do and the person had no clue on whether the current pending (approved but not okay'd by me) would lead to a negative effect on my credit report.

I feel that it would be very similar in your case…and to be honest, the call centre is next to useless.

      • The chick I had on the phone today was lovely and quick to answer (called during work hours) and also local not outsourced.

I try to be nice to people on the phones but I know if I crack they MIGHT cave… would love to get to answer to this lol

      • So… because I'm travelling overseas soon I re-applied with the correct link as the staff member suggested… declined.

Already ranted at them awaiting a response now.

I'm guessing my current pending application is probably the cause.

        • Hmm shouldn't be if you explained properly as they only take into consideration of credit undertaken.

You probably either didn't meet either requirement or your assessor didn't ask for more info etc

          • @Unorthodox: Nah it's their stupid online system, automatically declined due to pending application.

Wish their staff were more thorough in their knowledge, credit ratings should be taken more seriously especially since we can't control the reporting ourselves.

The branch guy despite being cute to look at, was not useful at all with my declined application, which just ended up with me awkwardly having a phone conversation with another rep whilst sitting in the branch…

Apparently my card is on the way but I haven't received any confirmations via email or sms like I was advised I would, only verbally told it's approved.

  • Would love to see if anybody is approved with an average credit score? (but otherwise checking all boxes)

    • I applied for the minimum ($6,000) and got approved. My credit score dropped from 769 to 754.
I only have another CC with a limit of $1,000) and no other loans. I'm curious to see what happens with my credit score when I close the $1,000 CC.
      Hope this helps

      • thanks for reporting :) mine dropped from high 670's (good) to 520 (average) after rejection from both coles mastercard and 28 degrees from july-aug

        • I wouldn't apply so close to other applications you have done… it might just keep ruining your score. I waited months after being declined (5-6 months) and got approved for the next card

          • @blueyez: The promos were very limited time. heh. I got this one at 650's score. Only been 2 months. It depends a lot on the bank issuing as much as your credit score/$ flow

  • I'm getting this message when I apply:

"Unfortunately the promotional offer you have selected cannot be found or has expired." ?

    • link seems to be working again when you click apply

    • When do you get the error? I've clicked the link seems working to me?

  • Anyone have any confirmation whether this is targeted?

  • -1

Is 1.125 velocity points per dollar considered high?

  • Hopefully I can get this. I cancelled on the 24th last year, so if I apply on the 25th, that'll be 6 business days for approval.

  • +2

I applied this card when they have 40,000 points promote. It's a great card with the apple pay feature.
Just be aware of the additional fee. I paid $55 + $10 for the secondary card and this is a annual cost. Even the secondary card hold have NO rewards apart from point pool, I feel it's unfair that it still charge the $55 reward program fee.

8 For ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures, a Total Annual Fee of $225 applies which includes a $170 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee. For additional cardholders an Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 apply per additional cardholder on the account.

    • Bloody hell I applied for additional card holder as well. I didn't know the charges. you reckon I can cancel the additional card now ?
