      Has Tightarse loosened up?

Seems to have 2018 models included

  • +1

This price would be great for i7 model…

    • Also the RAM price is still too expensive. My current 2013 Macbook Pro also has i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. This $2K 2017 model does not provide much features over what I have now :(

      • +11

You have to remember that an i5 chip from ~5 years ago is going to offer nowhere near the performance of one of the newer i5 chips, especially in the 2018 model

Edit: Looking at geek bench scores from your old macbook versus the newer ones, the newer macbooks offer around ~2.5x the power compared with the old one

        • Whilst that is true, it really depends on what someone is using it for. If it's just emails, word processing and occasional photo editing it really doesn't make that much of a difference. If he's editing videos and photos on the daily then yeah it's probably worth the upgrade.

        • +2

          @Ghost47:

Still using my MacBook Pro 2014 without any issues. Cannot see any point in upgrading for at least another 2 years. Askhole conflates the way they use a pc with how everyone else does so thus committing a error in logic.

        • @Icecold5000: i’m waiting to see what happens with the rumoured macbook air replacement.

      • +1

I'm with you edfoo. I'm still using mine everyday without missing a best from this deal.

Only the screen hinge is a bit loose. Will keep going till it dies if it ever does.

  • -3

    Still damn too expensive :(

    • Absolutely not, this is an AMAZING price.

      • +6

        Less than an iPhone

    • not “too” expensive, just “expensive” ….. some ultrabooks are close to the same price when talking enterprise grade ultrabooks form dell, hp.

i got the macbook air as i had PC with windows but also wanted OS x for some dev work, the macbook air was fine.

  • +17

    Bargain! Cheaper than iphone!

  • +4

The 2018 model (MR9Q2X/A and MR9U2X/A) is cheaper, $1,979.10, which is 26.67% off $2,699 RRP.

The 512GB 2018 model is $2,159.10, which is 28% off $2,999 RRP, also a good deal.

Any deals for a non-touchbar model?

  • +2

    Just bought a 2017 touchbar 15 i7 16gb from Myers. Seemed a reasonable price at $2599.

    • Do you have the link please? Looking to purchase the 15 inch models as well.

      • No link. But I noticed a demo on for sale at this price. I asked if they had any out back and they did. Myers is quitting selling Apple stuff. Ring a few of their stores and see what happens. I am pretty sure there are a few left here in SA.

    • 2017 keyboards had bad defects…they at least tried to fix it in 2018 hope your laptop is okay…

      • Looks like they're covered for 4 years after purchase for this. I'm not too worried.

        • The problem is that it can’t get fixed(it will happen again and again)

        • @XanderYuan: Since I'm using it for audio recording, it's not fatal to be honest. But I would imagine some consumer protection would ensure an equitable solution would have to be reached if the problem repeated itself.

  • It has 2018 version inside, just got a 512gb 2018 version at $2159, and using 11 PayPal eBay gift card, after TRS, it is really good amazing!

    • Hi mate, would you mind helping me out a bit?

I'm really confused how to use the gift cards to pay for a $2159 item like the 2018 macbook pro deal right here.

So the Macbook Pro 13" 512 GB 2018 is $2159 after PARTY19 discount right? Then, I understand that you can buy many $100 eBay gift card with 10% off. Each gift card can be redeemed by putting in 13 digit codes at the checkout page.

Well, that means in order to pay $2159 you need 22 gift cards in total right as each gift card is $100 in value. So does that mean I need to buy 22 eBay gift cards and then put each gift card code one by one in the checkout page?

      Kind regards

      • +1

        According to @samehade

$1500 per transaction, doesn't matter how many gift cards in total

        For your question

I understand that you can buy many $100 eBay gift card with 10% off

You can only buy 5 10% off eBay eGift cards per account

        • Hi mate thanks so much for the reply.

Ah okay okay, so max 5 10% off eBay eGift card FOR EACH ebay account isn't it? I have many eBay accounts so that means I will have no problem buying 20+ gift cards right?

$1500 per transaction, doesn't matter how many gift cards in total

Are you saying that the maximum payable amount with eGift card is $1500 in one transaction? If that's the case, if I want to buy the Macbook Pro 13" 512 GB 2018 version which is $2159, there'll still be a leftover of $2159 - $1500 = $659. So I need to pay that $659 with my own standard PayPal checkout?

          That means the total amount paid after using 15 X $100 gift cards ($1500 value in total) + $659 = (1500 - 10%) + $659 = $2,009. [This is assuming that you're using the PARTY19 code as well.

          Is my calculation correct?

        • @blue2609: Yup.

        • @O O:

Wait seriously? Does it really work like that mate? I'm sorry it's just that I never do something like this before so I'm confused myself.

        • @O O:

I'm chatting with an eBay representative right now and she said that YES there's a limit of how many gift cards you can use in one transaction. She said it's a maximum of 8 (it's written in terms and conditions apparently).

        • +2

          @blue2609: I don’t think 8 is correct. I used 10 at once.

        • @maburu1:

Really? Hmmmm maybe the lady was wrong then. But it's also in terms and conditions, anyway it's weird

  • Pretty good deal. Wish I didn't jump on officework price beat with 10% off JB.

  • Bought a 2018 512GB, great deal! Maybe apple wanna get rid of the new stock to make room for a redesigned macbook pro in mid October .

    • +3

Likely just a redesigned MacBook, not Pro.

  • -1

just bought one from JB HI FI .
    one week ago.
    can i return it???

    • +1

      Probably not

    • Apple has a 14 days no questions asked return policy (I have done this before for other reasons) but I dont know if it applies to non-Apple Store purchases. Worth a shot maybe if you have all original packaging etc? Either to JB or to Apple.

      • +4

This only applies if purchased from the Apple Store

      • +2

Only works if you bought it directly from Apple

    • +1

give it try. if you had purchased it from Apple you could return it within two weeks of purchase

  • I cant decide this maxed out of a xps 15 with the i7 6core 8750h 16gb ram and 512 ssd for 2300

    • If u really need the Mac OS ?

      • Not really fan of macos. Coming from mbpro retina 2012.

If it means anything I am in process of learning coding through python and r

        • get a $1200 lenovo if you don’t need mac OS X and are doing coding ….. it’s plenty fast and also means you can test apps with IE and Edge …

if you get windows pro you can also run VMs on it , also more tooling for .net on windows than the mac if doing dev work and customer / employer is a .net shop.

wish apple were more committed to the mac mini ….

        • @garage sale:do you mind telling me what Lenovo you have?

        • @Elanzer: I have the E570 …..I7, 16GB, FHD IPS screen, 256GB NVME SSD, and has space inside for an additional 2.5" drive ….it's 15.6" so not as small as a MacBook pro, but was $1190 inc gst delivered.

    • Have had an xps13 and 13" mbp, xps is a better machine but I returned mine due to not being able to deal with coil whine and downgraded to a 13" mbp.

      • I actually bought a xps 13 and in process of returning it right now. Hence my search for a new laptop. I am gearing towards xps 15 or possible this

    • Where are you getting the XPS 15 price from?

      • Dell xps 15 9570 for 2300 Ebay its 2899 with 20 percent off

        https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-15-Laptop-Intel-i7-8750H-…

        • Thanks.. I was considering grabbing the XPS 15 on eBay but they don't stock any of their 4k models. Would buy one over the Macbook but the screen trade-off especially at this price doesn't make it as attractive

        • @playmaker: I'm not sure if I need the 4k aswell. These choices doesnt declare a clear winner

        • @Elanzer: go 1080p on laptop and spend the saving on 28” 4k screen

        • @garage sale:the 1080p laptop and the 4k version are about 100 to 200 apart. I dont think I can get a 4k screen for that

  • 256GB, not 258GB, typo

  • if i didnt have the 15 inch 2017 model, i'd get one. am now after a very good windows laptop. i find that windows is much better as i do a lot of excel, sometimes pc games.

i tried excel on mac but the experience is still different due to keyboard shortcuts, etc….

    • windows vs mac os x ….depends what people do most of the time …..i have both. ……os x is great if you also have an iphone or ipad as it integrates so. nicely, eg imessage, etc.

windows is handier if you are using excel or word at another location ( corporate) and they have windows also, at my work it’s windows 10, and office on my mac is different look and feel.

  • +1

Amazing price on the 2018 256gb… cheaper than iphone Xs lol

  • +12

For anyone who is tossing up for the Touch Bar version or not, I have the Touch Bar 13" and I can confidently tell you it's useless. Utterly useless. The only thing I ever use it for is the ESC key, the brightness and volume, the rest is about 4x faster to navigate using the actual keyboard and mouse.

I am not saying I represent everyones needs, but I am on the damn thing 12-hours a day most days, programming, video editing, everything in-between and this bar does nothing to increase productivity or efficiency

Save yourself the extra money and get the non-touch bar, unless you're a 'status' type person than this is perfect for the uselessness social status.

    • +8

Agreed, however the new quad core only comes with the touch bar macbook pros.

    • +1

To be honest though, there are some things that if you were using it as a laptop frequently you could get used to. For example, in Word, the Touchbar has all those formatting options on it. Awesome for not having to change ribbons in Word using the mouse to change styles or whatever. It's not a game changer, but I think there are some benefits. YMMV

    • +1

But the only caveat of the Non-Touchbar version is having only two Thunderbolt 3 ports :(

    • +2

I find Touch Bar pretty useful, thanks to BetterTouchTool.

      https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2018/06/customise-your-macs-to…

    • Yes I never use mine. Not worth it IMO

    • I have the Touch Bar and the only thing I use it for is locking the computer and volume control/brightness practically it’s pointless because it requires you to look at the keyboard, who looks at keyboards? The fingerprint unlock is convenient

  • +2

Been waiting for a sale on these but didn't expect this! Just swooped up a 512GB Space Grey

  • Which model is the 2018 version??

    • +2

      Model name starts with MR9 2018 (Last 4) & MPX 2017 (First 2)

      • Thanks mate. Gonna buy one now

  • Hi all
Is this aus stock or grey import?
Tempted to pull the plug on the 512GB 2018 version

    • +1

      Aus Stock

    • +4

Pull the plug ? Perhaps you mean 'pull the trigger' as pulling the plug implies you are in fact NOT purchasing one..

  • -1

Just wanted to warn people that the edges of these are really sharp, and I have cut myself.

    Otherwise a great machine

    • +1

You must have weak skin. They definitely are not.

    • -2

  • Thanks. Just got one for my daughter who goes to high school next year.

Think i was one of the last to get stock. Seems all MR9 is gone?

    • Macbook Air is cheaper

      • -2

This is gonna last the 6yrs shes there.

        M Air is a toy.

        • Agree! but even Pro is not gonna easy to survive 6 yrs with a young high school kid…

        • -1

Okay then why are you complaining

  • +1

Wow I paid $2500 for the 512GB 2018 and thought that was a good price. It was only a week after release, but still…

  • I got a message from a private number "PayPal A - $2,399.00 AUD transaction with Brilliance Trading (AUSTRALIA) Pty Ltd on 21 September er 2018 was marked suspicious. Please reply '1' if authorised or '2' if not authorised.". Is this message legit? Should I reply?

    • +2

Several have reported getting the same in the other 10% off ebay gift card topic. Should be fine.

    • +1

I received the same message before and replied 1. No issue.

  • Great price! But I have no need for it now

  • Great deal. Anyone know how long the sale goes for?
