Samsung Galaxy Watch - Bluetooth 46mm Silver $439.20 + Delivery @ The Good Guys eBay

700
P20TGGS

This doesn't really show up on my searches for the watch in eBay and the listing itself seems off….(no thumbnail for the listing when I look at it). Still, $448.00 including shipping is a pretty sweet deal, not as good as the 40% off though.

  • Can someone comment on battery life? I hear various claims & don't know who to believe.
    Samsung claims 4-5 days

    • a recent thread I created!

Mine seems to have gotten better, 66% currently after fully charged at 9am Tues morning with moderate use.

    • I'm getting over 5 days atm, light use.

      • how do you stop yourself from charging it every night

    • +1

Went 4days with decent use until it got to 20% so I charged

    • +1

it all depends on usage, but for average/casual usage, I've got the smaller 42mm version and I'm getting about 2 days out of the watch…

The larger 46mm as above I would suspect to get upto around 4 days out of the unit at a guess.. I'll ask around as a friend has the 46mm but they have been playing around with it allot so probably hard to say at this stage as he's been charging it every night I believe (just because he says he takes it off at night anyway as he does not sleep with a watch on so thought might as well charge it)

      • 42mm gear S2 lasts me 3 days….

        • I don't get anywhere near 3 days on my S2.

I usually finish the day with anywhere from 40-70%, but I charge every day.

One day it was down to 15%, not sure why. And another day it died before I got home. But one day I got home with 80%. It seems inconsistent. Or maybe the battery sensor is crappy.

          • @lostn: Hmmm, I don't use activity tracking or anything, just use it for heart rate monitor every couple of hours, notifications, and watch/weather/music control. I got home after 100% charge in morning, and it will be around 75-80%. next day I get home with 45-55%, then last day at around 15-20% and then I charge.

      • If you keep it on while you sleep, it measures your sleep length and quality.

Also, when your alarm goes off, you can snooze or dismiss it from your watch instead of getting up and reaching for the phone.

I charge it before bed and wear it to bed.

    • +1

I have the 46mm use for 4 days and still has 20%, but charging it anyway.

    • +4

      I'm getting 2.5 days.

Lte mode off. I think I'm considered a moderate user lots of notifications and I make calls through it.

My first smart watch, feels a little gimmicky. Experience far better on phone than trying to view content on a watch face. WhatsApp photos don't always load off watch.

      • +1

Feels a bit gimmicky, right? My first smart watch too.
Handy for notifications I'll admit, especially if I am just wandering around the house or am chatting to someone in another office or pod at work and don't have the phone on me - can work out if I need to go grab it or not.

        • +1

Feels gimmicky for sure. Honestly couldnt justify it on my wrist, and got annoyed at disabling always on for the sake of battery.. especially at times when I just wanted to look at the time haha.

Sold it for purchase price on gumtree (40% off) the next day.

          • +1

@passwordistaco: All these replies back up my own thoughts about smart watches. If you like wearing a watch then dair enough but if like me you haven't worn a watch for years then it needs to be a compelling proposition to get me to wear one. Current smart watches aren't even slightly compelling.

            • @C0mbat: Totally agree. Even then though, I like to wear a watch and wear a basic one most days - I still really didn't like the smartwatch.. it was tedious and annoying.

I still think we are years away from a truly smooth experience in wearables.

              • @passwordistaco: i think these watches are more useful when they are the cellular versions. These days if i leave my phone in the car or home etc. for some reason it's no big deal, as I can still get calls and text and pay for stuff with watch.

I mostly have one so i can go on a run/ride without lugging the huge phone (a note) around but still be contactable in an emergency.

          • @passwordistaco:

You know as soon as you flick your wrist as if to check the time, the screen should turn on right?

Otherwise you can use the AOD watch face which doesn't use much battery.

You can answer a text without pulling out your phone and give one of the preset messages like "OK", "Yes", "No", etc, or add your own to the presets. You can reject a call with preset messages like "I can't talk right now" or "I'll call you back". I keep my phone in a pocket that's inconvenient to grab the phone. So if it's just a text, I can see what the message is and reply quickly.

        • Been using Apple Watch for 2 years now (still a series 1). I dont find it gimmicky at all, its quite natural to me. Although I hardly check for anything on my watch other than the time. I dont have much notifications configured on mine.. I basically only use mine to answer phones (or to get prompt that a call is in), control spotify/music. The rest of the day I treat it like a watch.. to check time. I still do 95% of the "smart" thing on my phone. Hence probably why I never bother upgrading..

I've been wearing watch before this.. so I'm definitely more used to having watch on my wrist. I mainly like smartwatch because I like to change my watch face every few weeks. And also like the moving animation that it makes :D

      • Just over 6 days - I have the Bluetooth 46mm version , moderate usage (a number of calls and texts, lots of playing around with the settings, apps and watch faces), always on display off. I got down to 4% battery left and used Power Saver for the last 3 hours before charging.

    • About 24 hours then it has 10-20%. Lte+bluetooth+wifi+always on display

    • 46mm lte here.

First charge lasted 4.5 days - based on the second charge it looks like 5 days would be achievable.

    • 46mm Bluetooth here. Charged Friday evening, recharged Tuesday night. Was tinkering with it endlessly, so I'd call that heavy use.

    • 2.5 days with Bluetooth model + Always on Display.

    • I think it will vary massively depending on how you use it.
I have a Gear S3, and charge it once every five days usually; I have it on full brightness, but always-on display is off, and mostly just use it to see notifications (and the time, of course!).
I also turn it off when I get home each evening though, and turn it on when I wake up, as I don't need it with me when I'm just at home.

So I dare say with that usage pattern I could hopefully get up to 7 days with the new one!

Damn Good Guys, ruining our profit margins…

  • Anyone NOT having issues with the step counter? It doesn't seem to register when you travel a short distance. Based on the forums, seems to be a common problem.

    • Make sure good night mode is turned off. Mine wouldn't register steps initially and once I turned it off, it started counting.

    • I have issues with this, I have done everything in suggested in the samsung forums but no dice. For me the step things is a deal breaker so not sure what I am going do just yet. Also the HR data is not as good as my fitbit etc. I might return it and get a garmin phenix5.

P.s on average i am getting 30-40% less steps than my old fitbit blaze and about 30% less than my phone).

      • Think it's an issue with every watch? Or is ours defective?

  • looks good. Is possible to order this watch in different colour?

    • Nop, only 1 color variant for the 46mm version.

  • I got mine off the Samsung pre sale including the free "$150" dual wireless charging station for $550
I have already had a problem with the heart rate monitor. It refused to work at gym.. I took it home and noticed the green flashing light on the back stopped working. I did a factory reset and it worked that night, then in the morning failed to work. Turned off the watch and restarted and it has been working for 24hrs now.. Bloody hell all i need is a glitchy watch for $550.. Called Samsung and they said it was good that i did a reset, and they will call me back with some other possible remedy.. Haven't heard back yet.. That was 30 hrs ago. Anyone else had this happen ?

    • +1

Take it back and demand a refund, exercise your consumer rights.

    • Every single product has faulty units. Just saying…. I bought a $1400 Pixel XL and had to return it, only to have to return the replacement, and then return the replacement. Took much more than 30 hours lol

  • If anyone knows how to get emails from their gmail account without notifying about the "promotional" and "Social" emails (in their tabbed area), please let us know. I get 1 promotional email every 9 mins and its driving me nuts. Only get 2 real emails a day that i need to look at. I had to disable my smart phone from receiving them as i spend half the day looking at eneloops and Zapal specials (not that bad now that i think about it)

    • +1

Why not unsubscribe from these promotional and social notifications?

      • You're showing your age. Kids these days don't bother with unsubscribe, and have never heard of email filters/rules :(

        • +1

Lol I'm becoming that group of old dudes that just don't get the youngins

  • Honestly.. Smart wretches are practically useless unless they're cellular enabled. Once you go cell, you'll never go back for the convenience and all. Arguably that's what was the missing piece that stopped it from taking off in the first place.

    • +1

I think it really depends from person to person…I made the conscious decision to not get the 4g model and got the bluetooth only one instead. I asked myself, when am I ever going to go out without my phone and potentially might make a phone call? If I didn't take my phone, what would be so important that I must receive and reply to something? (In which case I would have my phone with me if I'm anticipating something like that).

For me, I could only think of very very few situations where it might be useful, and to me that wasn't worth the extra cost and $5/month and being stuck with one of the main carriers Telstra/Optus/Vodafone, where again I'd save money with Kogan or something similar.

    • Do you need a sim card for that? And will it have a different number to your phone?

  • -2

    1) Does this have LTE and if yes do I have to pay Optus $10 a month to enable it?
    2) Why do I need one? Everything other than the step counter can be done by taking the extra 2 seconds for pulling the phone out of my pocket. Are there any other real-world benefits?

    • I was under the impression that this watch only uses Telstra esim ATM, so it's like Telstra "exclusive".

      • Voda also announced support for the LTE model. Interestingly, there's an email floating around from Samsung locally that says the LTE model has been pulled from sale until the 'customer experience' is better.

        • Vodafone's numbersync did not explicitly mention samsung galaxy watch … not sure if it supports the galaxy. wonder if lebara and kogan will ever provide esim support …

For those only want notifications and time and general fitness purpose, get a Amazfit Bip. I charged it on Aug 28, still 20% left. My record is 62 days with light use.
U can read SMS, weather and see phone number etc. If you link it up Google Fit, you can see your track on map.
And it costs only $100, not as good looking and not showing you're rich though.

    • Thanks, I've been looking for something like what you've described. Especially linking with Google fit. It would be a bonus if it was Android wear instead of requiring some other app to be installed on my phone.

    • Hmm no storage for music. Pass

  • Bought this during the 40% off. Battery is as expected around 4 days moderate use. I've replied to one of the threads here about the settings.

I have found I no longer look at my phone unless prompted by a watch notification so my overall screen time on my phone has reduced to the point where I'm getting another 20% out of the battery.

If you find yourself checking your phone for notifications then getting lost in the world of ozbargin when you didn't intend to. I would highly reccomend a smart watch of sorts to replace the phones notifcations.

  • On using the promo code on ebay I am getting an error “we ran into a problem, please try again later”. Anyone else facing this?

  • Can you buy different bands for this? Wouldn't mind a more formal type band

  • +4

I had issues with battery initially, now I got it figured out. took me a lot of time reading many forums and doing lot of testing. Here is what I found.

If you using 2% of battery or more per hour then this might be for you.

First, turn off Always on display (AOD) and continuous heart rate monitor and check your battery usage after 1 or 2 hours, if you are still getting more than 2% drain per hour then you need to do a hard reset. Apparently the pedometer need a reset to drain less battery, here is how to do the hard reset.

Press and hold the Power key until you see the Galaxy Watch rebooting screen.

    1. Release the Power key, then continuously tap the Power key until you see the Reboot Select Mode screen.
    2. Tap the Power key to highlight Recovery.
    3. Long press (up to 6 seconds) to select it. The device will restart.

To get 5 days out of this after the reset you need to turn off AOD and set heart rate monitor to frequent (not continuous) . Just try any of the samsung watch faces first, some third party watch faces drain your battery heavily.

One other thing very important is to turn off wifi, 4G and NFC they will drain. If you don't know how to turn off LTE/4G, try to turn on air plane mode and manually turn on bluetooth. You really only need bluetooth unless you are with Telstra and activated your e-sim. You can still use samsung pay with NFC set to off because Samsung Pay will turn it on automatically. Remember to turn NFC off after you used Samsung pay.

When you go to bed, turn on air plane mode and good night mode, and turn off wake on gesture and bazel rotation. They will drain because when you sleep with the watch, screen will keep on and off.

Using this setting, I got about 1% per hour with normmal usage (check notification reply sms etc) and about 0.3% per hour during sleep with sleep tracking. So I now get 5 days at least.

To keep your battery healthy, try not to let your battery drain below 10%, deep discharge is a known killer for Lithium batteries.

    good luck

    • I had the same problem when I got the watch.. went from 100% to 50% by the end of the day!!

I didn't try a hard reset as you have suggested about! I had to go a factory reset on the 3rd day. My battery life seems to have improved drastically since then!

Sitting at 54% after just over 2 days.

    • Had the same problem with my 46mm Bluetooth, hard reset didn't do much. So I reset again inside the watch settings. Now my watch has dramatically improved in battery performance. Just under two days of use…and watch on 68%. I should easily be able to get 4 days now.

  • Worth upgrading from s3 frontier or same same more or less ?

    • If you can still get 3 days out of your s3, I will say no, don't upgrade.

    • I say yes. The chip inside galaxy watch has been designed for wearable unlike the previous iteration which was a cut down version of the chip used in phones. So battery life will definitely be better.

Moreover I find that the GPS locks faster compared to S3 and this could be due to the improved chip

      • Just ordered one from eBay store. I have got Galaxy S3 Classic and use it everyday for running and cycling.

I constant heart rate is off, I can get 16-18 hrs out of it otherwise it is less than that.

As per your comment, I thought why not upgrade. Thanks

  • any price matching ? ?

  • I your thinking for payments .. this is the newer one that removes the magnetic strip - so only supports NFC payments, right? Maybe not an issue as most POS systems use NFC now. - link to article: http://bit.ly/2CzOs28

    • Yes, only NFC, haven't had any machine not work so far.

    • +1

Then buy off of there and stop spamming users for their work email address, then getting upset when you're declined.

  • A word of warning from the current owner of Galaxy Watch Cellular model. I used my Xiaomi Mi Band 2 that I'm wearing on the other hand for comparison.
    Current issues:
    1. Step Counter is inaccurate. It shows up to 1000 steps less in a day. For some people it's been far worse: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpa…

2.Heart rate monitoring during sleep not working:
    https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/Smartphones-Tablets-Wear…

I've also noticed that when hand gets sweaty during workout, watch struggles to get accurate heart rate reading. I then have to tighten the band so much it feels like blood supply to my hand has stopped.

Step Counter is such a basic function on any fitness device. It must work or the device is a failure!

I'm hoping those areas software issues that can be fixed. However, for other Samsung watches there have been no fixes for the last 9 months!
I may end up demanding a full refund and getting a Garmin device which is what some people have done. It would such a potty as Galaxy Watch is otherwise a great device.
