I think the others are being pedantic, or just joking (hopefully), since it should probably be 8GB (Gigabytes) rather than 8G (generation). They obviously know this…

      • It forces people to put the B in GB, honestly.

  • +2

Wow… I never thought Huawei phone can reach that much high price point.

  • Amazing phone, no one talk about the battery life?

    • -2

      fast charging.
      so it does not matter.
      one minute 1% charging

      • +1

it'd be faster than that. Can get to 70% in 30 minutes. so 1% every 26seconds

    • +5

No need, Mate 10 Pro still rank No 1 with 4000mah battery at a reasonable size, not to mention the 7nm 980 cpu and 4200mah battery

  • +1

anyone want to share one of them?
I am living in Kingsford, unsw, 2032
I want to enjoy the 10% offer

    • +16

Sure, I need it on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and every other Saturday.

    • @Ethandong Did you find anyone to do the 10% off for 2 x Huawei Mate 20 Pro deal?

      • I prefer to purchase it in China, much cheaper

  • +1

Curved edge like the samsung? Why Huawei why!!?

    • -3

      curved edge
      why not Huawei
Do you want a BOMB cellphone like Samsung?

      • +3

Currently own a S8. Two things regarding the curved edges that i dont like:
it is difficult not to touch screen edges when you try to orientate or hold the phone.
Screen protector doesnt stay well and collects dust on the sides.

        • And the glare.

Rumour said S10 will be flat.

          • @[Deactivated]: I haven't had the glare isssue on my s7 edge but the touching sides is a pain!

When I'm holding my phone vertically and watching youtube I sometimes accidentally hit next video or some other video in the recommended video list just because my thumb is resting against the edge of the phone.

I don't have a case for my s7 edge anymore, but when I had the spigen case on it, it created enough buffer against the edge to prevent accidentally touching buttons. Reason i don't have the case anymore is I dropped my phone too many times and broke the case. Not concerned about getting another one as I've been out of contract for a year and wanting a new phone. Just waiting for this one to die.

    • +3

Notch is a bigger issue imo

  • +4

Never thought I'd see the day where a Huawei would RRP for 1.5k+

    • +18

never thought i would see a phone as a bargain for 1.5k lol

      • +1

I need more upvotes to give you…

  • +6

The world has gone mad with phone pricing. The manufacturers are milking on the attachment levels of people and their precious slabs.

    • Yea ikr the phone prices are just sky rocketing

    • +2

Plenty of great phones for fraction of the price but the top end is getting higher

  • +6

Whoa! $1500 for a Huawei! What is world coming to!

  • +3

Is that a notch I see?
Waiting for TV's being sold with a notch in them.

    • +1

Not until they also have cameras and facial recognition in them too.

  • -6

I personally won't touch a Chinese OEM for free let alone $1500 (but that's just me)

I get the criticism of my personal view, after all, Google tracks you even if you turn location services off, but the tactics of Huawei, Xiaomi and ZTE are much more malign.

    • +2

      Just you.

    • +5

Where I work they won't let you do a BYOD Chinese phone. Has to be a mainstream Apple, Samsung, LG etc.

    • -5

I upvoted you to try to get you out the red. I'm with you mate. Would never go chinese phone as long as the PRC rule.

      • Thanks dude. I knew it would be a controversial comment, and I don't care about the downvotes.

      • -2

        FAIL lol

    • +2

I think you're talking about a Chinese phone company, just about all phones are MADE in China while the companies may be from elsewhere .. :-( .. !!

      • -1

China doesn't interfere with the intellectual property of a company that isn't Chinese, so it's the lesser of two evils to buy Samsung, Apple, Google, etc.

Unless you're suggesting that China is putting a malicious board or component at the time of manufacture? Which is ridiculous.

    • +1

The unsubstantiated "tactics" spun by western media propaganda outlets that you proudly admit to being brainwashed by. Believe the biased US "intelligence" community all you want, I will enjoy the superior hardware. I mean, the US has absolutely no ulterior motive and values the privacy of its citizens and its allies above all else.

I would like anyone who challenges me to provide credible evidence. LOL.

  • -3

I think I will wait 12 months and buy it for under $700.

    • -1

If only you were older - and wiser

  • +3

I will buy this phone in 2020 :)

    • -2

Buy a ledger nano s currently on special on ozbargain, load it with around 20 different shitcoins, 1 of them is bound to moon lambo in 2020. Then you will be able to buy a brand new chinese phone instead of a 2 year old chinese phone.

  • @lyl I feel like this is incorrect?

" The Mate 20 is $1518.10 after 5% off code P5OFF." You quoted the same price for the pro a few paragraphs above this?

    • Thanks Pub Envelope, it has been corrected

      • this deal is over you boosted the price! lower it back again please????????

  • +6

Giving $1,500 to MobileCiti is dumb enough, but for a Huawei?

    https://twitter.com/fs0c131y/status/1051568180748013569

That might be for the Chinese ROMs that don't have Google Play, etc. but do you really want to be associated with a company that acts like this?

    • It sounds prism.

    • I heard about this and this is the reason I don't spend more than $350 on Chineses phone. No matter how good they are.

      • Yeah, I'm not convinced that they're not doing the same to the global variants with Google services enabled.

  • +2

    $1500 FOR A PHONE?!

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE WORLD?

    • +7

Don't look up iPhone XS Max 512Gb then, you'll melt down all over again

    • +1

On March 6, 1983 Motorola started selling DynaTAC 8000X, the first commercial portable cellular telephone, at a price of $3,995.

That's presumably USD too. Whether that was a good or a bad thing depends on the strength of the USD as against the British pound sterling, as the AUD was pegged to the pound until December 12, 1983, when it was floated and its value was determined by the the international money markets and supply and demand.

      • +3

Considering it was actually revolutionary (as opposed to iPhone X revolutions lol) that price seems quite reasonable, even factoring in inflation, etc. In 1983 that would have looked like alien technology from the Starship Enterprise

    • +2

I heard that the $1500 phones can do both uppercase and lowercase.

      • +2

Dunno who would neg you for this tongue-in-cheek comment. Have a +.

    • Companies are cramming more into phones.

The high-tier has become the mid-tier. You can find great phones that aren't priced through the roof.

  • -4

I know I am canning Huawei and getting a lot of downvotes, which is completely fine, but for the sake of curiosity and discussion (after all, this is a public forum), why do people disagree with me? Really interested to see your points if you don't mind sharing

    • +3

Well, your first name somehow rhymes with Gerry Harvey and that alone is worthy of a downvote lol

  • +5

Huh? Where's the bargain? Am I on the wrong website? Is this ozjustgimme.com?

  • +1

Pretty keen on this phone but like the Note 9 I think the price will be closer to 1k in the coming months (with ebay codes I think I remember getting the Note 9 down to about 1100). I think I can wait - spent 13-14 for my Pixel XL which has lasted me a couple of years, but given I don't 'need' to upgrade I'm happy to wait for the eventual price drop.

  • +3

Cannot unlock bootloader which is a shame now..

  • what you guys smoking

  • I hate curve screen, does it have curve screen?

    I don't like the glare.

  • +5

I think huawei don't hold their value long. Wait couple month, probably under $1000

    • P20 Pro has kept its value quite well

    • I reckon as long as Samsung and Apple continue to lag behind the mate 20 pro has no reason to drop price rapidly.

      • This is what I thought too. But atm Samsung has establish pretty good name already. Normal People often compare apple and Samsung when they don't know any other brand like oppo, xiaomi. Huawei will be big if they keep on the way they are now. However, My bet is on xiaomi .

  • I hope it dsoes not sell out. I am trying to save up and sell items. trying to sell my near new samsung galaxy s9 plus lol and mi max 2s

  • f***bomb, I just signed P20 Pro with the JBhiFI deal.

    • I don't think that's a bad deal. Nevertheless, there was a heads up in the comments about this phone.

  • +3

I would be nice if phone companies could design a battery that doesn't require daily charging after a year of use. That would be more useful than the useless features they add in to justify the exorbitant price.

    • +1

      It's not in their interest.

It's much better to make one that performs great in the first month for the initial wave of reviews, but why would they then spend money to make it last year's when they WANT you buying a new phone all the time?

  • If only new Zealand is closer.

    • Nah, it's just right where it is ;)

      • If only we have neighbouring country in land. We can just free walk to get trs refund.

        • What type of trs refund would I be looking at?

  • What are you people using your phones for?

    • Posting on ozbargain about $2K phones…

OP should forfeit their ozb badge and certificate and sinbinned. There is no way ANY smartphone is worth that much money and still not have an Infrared port so I can change the channel on the telly.

      NO WAY

      • +7

The mate 20 pro has an infrared port :)

  • I'm tossing up between this and the Samsung Note 9. Can anyone in the know sway me one way or another?

    • +2

This has a 7nm processor so should be faster, more power efficient.

    • -1

Note 9 owner. 8 GB of memory and that spen that can be a remote for groupie or self picture taker.

  • +1

Beware Huawei service in Aus is horrible. I had a phone dead within a week from arrival. No misuse at all but Huawei refused repair on warranty. I had to get TIO and ACCC to get it repaired at Virgin mobile's cost, not as manufacturers warranty is what Virgin said.

Those who are expecting Apple service for apple like prices is grossly mistaken

  • Just pre-ordering this with Optus after an almighty stuff up with my Note 9 order resulted in it never being delivered. So glad as this looks so much better.

  • Managed to nab the last blue. Glad I had all those PayPal gift cards stocked up

  • Note 9 will have better resale value

  • rip off they boosted the damn price

    • nvm they fixed it, just ordered one.

  • Does anybody have a .edu email that I can get a code from? Thanks

  • Mine is faulty. it has the green tint on right side.. I requested for return, I hope its smooth.
