You're missing that the normal price is $79/mth and not $69.

      • Oh wow. It went up ten bucks a month. I just signed up few days ago for 69.95 per month but ten bucks off for first five months, hence my confusion.

        • It was never $69.95 a month regular price… only the 25/5 unlimited plan was ever that price (and still is, but none of the promo codes I've seen apply to the 25/5 Unlimited).

  • Cancelling a pre order and rejoining can be done easily. I have done it before . Signed up for $10 a month off and next day I saw a $20 off posted. Called and cancelled saying I'll reorder again. No issues there. You are not in their customer database of its on pre order. You are only a prospective customer .

    • What if I've set up direct debit and have an nbn tech coming to install though?

Think it's a bit late for me.

Edit: I've received the modem too. So that might be an issue.

  • +1

Perfect timing. Been having major congestion issues with Mungi on the Brisbane PoP lately and while their customer service is great, it does very little to help a household of teenagers who love streaming and online gaming when your internet slows to a crawl.

Was literally just thinking of switching to ABB over the last few days!

    • Did you sign up yet? Mine accepts the promo code as '$20 off for 6 months' but still the monthly cost at the bottom says $79/month so unsure if it's accepting it or not as I cancelled a pre order previously.

      • I had the same concern.

        • I signed up and the code was accepted, the email says "Promotional code applied to your acount: $20/month discount for 6 months (switch20). So all good! Churning over end of the month from Mungi :) Wanted to support them as their customer service is awesome and speeds are great generally, but overseas speeds during peak take a dive lately and the net just feels 'laggy' with it sadly.

  • Good price promo, I'm on $10 more from the previous "deal" when Telecube kicked everyone out. On a 50/20 FTTP and speeds are kinda as promised, sometimes better even. Worst one was about 1Mbit for the evening I had to work from home and it gave me the shits, just after I had signed up too. I'm not too fussed as I don't game and don't care about latency etc as much. But when I do use it I want it to work as advertised.

One annoying thing I'm facing is that idle connections even with keepalives (every 45s) the connections still get dropped in an hour or two. Never had such an issue with Telstra/iiNet/TC/… Anyway, that's my only grievance at the moment regarding their service, and by Oz standards I'll give them a thumbs up.

  • +3

The longer im with ABB and see these deals for NEW customers only, the more it pisses me off

    • You can always quit ABB and join other providers. I don't think anyone is putting a gun to your head to stay with ABB.

  • +4

ABB has awesome network service. Speeds are as advertised (FTTP here though) and service support has been prompt in bumping me up with GBs when required.

    My only gripe is:

    • no flexibility in changing promo codes. I signed up in a rush as Telecube had shut their NBN service. ABB released a better promo code after I signed up and refused to add in a new offer.

    • no interest in keeping a new customer happy. TLDR; I put a wrong account number in, so their was a bounce in bill payment. I called within 10 minutes of receiving notification and advised that it was a 'my bad' moment and $ wasn't ever an issue. Support was great, but I received a $5.50 dishonour fee. I called to have this removed, it was 'escalated' to a support manager and denied refund. Bit silly on their part.. it's $5.50.. and has left a sour taste.

    YMMV of course.

  • +1

This promotion is for plans which have a 24 month contract but I cant find any information on the contract conditions. If I signup for this promotion deal then decide I want to change to a smaller plan after the 6 months, will there be fees? The critical information page says there's no fees but then why would a contract exist? (I definitely want to avoid contracts)

I also already have an Nbn modem so should I decline the free modem or accept it as freebie?

    • Just select an offer without a modem (or BYO modem or whatever have they) and it will be no-contract, month-by-month.

      • +2

What's the best way of getting a modem if you're moving off cable service to HFC?

    • This promo applies to the unlimited 50/20 and 100/40 plans which are offered with no contract as well. You don't need to be locked in a contract.

    • They are also available with our no contract plans. You're more than welcome to choose no contract.

  • I am on the $20 off deal at the moment after the Telecube fiasco. Still 3 months to go … so far the service has been great (one outage) and great speeds also at peak time (HFC - North Balwyn).

I guess I still will cancel them In 3 months time to try Exetel NBN - which was my provider in DSL times - for $59.99.

I will see the difference in service quality and then decide if it's worth too pay $19 more ($19 might not sound that much but over 10 years it will be: $2280 ;-).

    • You were lucky, I spent 43 days without NBN while trying to churn from Telecube to Aussie Broadband, and I jumped the day Telecube announced their demise.
Ended up giving up and got Telstra with the 4G backup connected in about 5 days.
I'm now at the end of that and in the process of swaping to Exetel as the $30/mth ($360 pa) for Telstra was not worth it for the 4G backup (home phone & Air are useless). You can get data on a wifi dongle and use it both at home and on holidays. Its only a really long NBN outage where Telstra would come out ahead.

If you are considering Exetel, watch out for the Vodafone NBN deal which is $58 for 25/5 unlimited data, including 4G backup. I plan to swap from Exetel when the Vodafone plan is available in my area.

  • NBN is supposed to be available for me this month!

    • is supposed

      Umm.. how do I put this… : )

    • My nbn connection stayed in "supposed" status for past 18 month…

  • Signed up for the $10 off per month just a fortnight ago and now it keeps getting worse.

And they can't even apply the code despite my service not being active yet. Sigh.

    • Cancel and get your partner/housemate to sign up, if possible.

      • But I've got my NBN tech coming in tomorrow and already received the modem, and on a 24 month plan. Would have to waive the contract for $149 I assume.

Too much hassle at this point, no?

        • To me it would be too much hassle. If you had signed up without contract (without modem), it would've been easier.

NBN is the infrastructure only. Internet is provided by ABB/Telstra/Optus/TPG and other providers. You can get NBN connect you and cancel with the provider, I think.

          • +1

@pizzaguy: Yeah nothing much I can do at this point. Oh well. If the service is good, I'll feel slightly better.

  • if you change from a different provider (e.g. Mungi) to ABB, would the transfer automatically happen? Does the current provider get notified of the change over or do we have to contact our current provider to cancel the service at the end of the billing month?

  • AussieBB on the GC for the last 5 months. No drop outs. On a 50/20 plan but the best I can achieve is 42/18. Router says I can achieve 22 up.

I was with Telecube 100/50 was getting 45/22. Enquired about this but they can't do any better.

Disappointed didn't get the referral due to being in the same household. They are a bit Nazi with their rules on discounts. They need to loosen up more.

Constant spam once they have your email address. Unsubscribe quickly.

Disappointing for loyal customers, no discounts but hey, all companies do this.

In saying all that had no real issues and can't complain about the service. It just works.

    • +1

They are a bit Nazi with their rules on discounts

If we just start saying "nazi" instead of "strict", then our kids won't know or care what nazi is.

      I can achieve is 42/18
with Telecube 100/50 was getting 45/22

Perhaps a possum chew the node a litte.

  • Does any modem work with this guys? If I buy a random NBN modem will it be fine?

    • -1

Telstra Max Gateway 2 is your friend. Get one second hand. VoIP won't work though.

      • +5

Telstra Anything modems are absolutely not your friend my dude.

        • It's was proven to be one of the most fastest and stable compared to others but whatever dude.

              • @Korban Dallas:

The Telstra Gateway Max 2 boasts a number of features not normally found on other routers, such as onboard NFC for easy Wi-Fi pairing to Android smartphones and a physical button to turn the Wi-Fi on and off. However, you cannot set a schedule to turn the Wi-Fi on and off between certain times, so you will need to do this manually. It also has a stylish design and comes with a stand so that the router can rest upright.

Despite being available only through Telstra, the Gateway Max 2 modem will work with other ISPs with some caveats. For one, the firmware is not upgradeable on a non-Telstra connection and there is no way to upgrade it manually. Also, the modem will attempt to "phone home" every few days causing the Internet connection to drop out completely. It can take a while to reconnect after a reboot as well.

Meanwhile, we didn’t experience any dropouts while using a Telstra FTTN connection. It’s worth keeping these drawbacks in mind if you’re switching from Telstra to another ISP with the Gateway Max 2 in tow. Overall, the modem is very easy to use, but this comes at the cost of a limited suite of administration features especially when compared to other modem routers available on the market at this price point. On the upside, the Gateway Max 2 provided some of the fastest sync speeds during our testing (86.04/42.7), and it is also equipped with the most capable Wi-Fi at the sub-$300 price point.

For Telstra users, the Gateway Max 2 is an easy choice. However, if you’re coming across from Telstra and were contemplating on using your Gateway Max 2 on another ISP’s FTTN service, then the regular dropouts and the inability to update the firmware might not be worth the frustration.

For non Telstra connections, it has regular dropouts and you can't update the firmware.

                • @ShortyX: He is wrong, must have made an assumption as firmware updates take forever. Just need a internet connection and my firmware remains updated automatically. You can change advanced settings via SSH. My uptime is Currently 30 days. Never had a drop out that I know about. Maybe he had a crappy day of testing. All I can do is share my experience. Very happy with this modem.

Try it, get a cheap one on ebay. If. You don't like it resell it and you want loose much if any on the resale.

                  • @Korban Dallas: No worries. Historically, ISPs provided horrible modem/routers and some still do, but Telstra have slightly improved. The bottom line is that’s still a Sagemcom so I’ll be avoiding it and sticking with Netgear or Asus. I’m happy with my R8000 as it provides QoS configs.

                    • @ShortyX: No it isn't. Technicolor TG800vac

                    • @ShortyX:

I’m happy with my R8000 as it provides QoS configs.

Netgear's Dynamic QoS implementation is only good if your connection is slow. Even if your PC is the only device connected, it will limit your download speed just because. The algorithm is a POS. And this is even on ADSL2+. Once I turned it off I was able to max out my connection again.

Probably should install ddrwt or tomato tbh.

                      • @CVonC: Thanks - good to know. We probably don't need QoS anyway on a FTTP 100/40 connection.

                        • @ShortyX: You always need QoS really, just so the lines not saturated.

Ie, watching Netflix and steam starts downloading something. Don't want it using 10mb/s down when you don't need it to finish fast and it ruins your streaming

        • +2

I cannot upvote this comment enough.

In fact most modem routers from ISPs suck.

        • You know its just a badge right. Telstra doesn't make them.

          • +1

@Korban Dallas: Usually ISPs choose cheaper modem/routers with limited features.

If you are tech savvy, you're better off to choose a decent modem/router with customisability like upgrading firmware or adjusting QoS. The downside is that ISPs won't support other modem/routers.

    • It only needs to have an ethernet (the wider telephone-like socket) port and be able to connect using PPPoE, I think.

This is a quite standard way. Most modem-routers can do that.

      • +1

Different for FTTN. Need to ensure you get the right one.

        • What about FTTC?

  • OK so I'm confused here… Phil was going on about how the wholesale price of an NBN connection is now $49 on whirlpool and that long term these types of prices are unsustainable …. which they are… yet here we are…?

This is clearly a move to put the smaller providers out of business, no company can run off a $10 profit margin per customer and that's not even taking into account overheads, buying CVC from NBN, paying staff and the list goes on..

    • Exetel are able to

    • This is why this promo only applies to our 50/20 and our 100/40 plans, not our 25/5 plan, and it's only offered for 6 months.

  • If you have FTTP or HFC I recommend Exetel. Can't comment on FTTN, never had it. From what I hear FTTN depends every cable and connecyor from your house and to the street and to the node. Lucky dip at best. Their ublimited 50/20 is $59.95 everyday. Couldn't be happier.

    • Yeah I have FTTN at my house but Exetel saying it’s $79.99 for me for the 50/20 unlimited plan.

      • So the price differs if you have FTTN? I thought NBN Co charges the same. Must be the extra cost with customer service. FTTN is hit and miss, from what I have heard. I have mates that get almost 100Mbps and mates who fluctuate between 2-11Mbps.

        • rural probs

          • +1

@follow: Good coast. Hope that’s not rural 😂

  • Dang it, still on a stop sell for HFC here (3HDB-66). Wholesale sheet says late November so hopefully I can cash in on this before it expires!

    • i am pretty sure we can pre-order. we are getting HFC on december so I am thinking to pre-order to get this discount

      • I tried to pre-order through the website and it said there was a stop sell for me. YMMV

      • Ha, one day later and NBN is now available in my area. Just signed up, thanks rep!

  • I am moving in mid-Dec and want to sign up. Is there a way to get this offer but put the service on hold until we move?

  • So if I was with ABB 5odd months ago, I can only get this plan by using a different phone number?

  • -4

Once again, ABB are ignoring loyal customers but offering them absolutely zero reward to stay when continually offering these deals for new customers. I can quickly see them becoming just like any other regular ISP, that people moan and complain about.

ABB, rep: PLEASE listen to your existing customers - you know, the customers who got you to this position in the first place - and reward their loyalty. Word of mouth goes a lot further than these discounted new customer offerings.

    • +2

That'd be why they mentioned this

Don't forget that if you're already an Aussie Broadband customer you can share this promotion with a friend and use our refer-a-friend promo(aussiebroadband.com.au) to get a $50 credit on your account.

  • Can I get a static IP without being a business owner?

    • +1

I think you can. Stated in the Critical Information Summary,

Do I have to bundle anything with the service?
Bundling is not compulsory. You can opt to bundle your home phone or any of our bolt-on features like night owl (no data metering between 1–7am), download-only metering or a static IP.”

  • Less than 30mins, I’m connected!

  • Can I ask a quick question please especially for those with Activ8?

If I move to AussieBroadband, will I instantly lose my email account with my current ISP or there is a grace period I can still access my new emails from my current ISP server?

    Thanks

  • -1

I hate when existimg customers gain no benefit. Looks like I have to cancel and sign up with my wife's details. A few of these companies can take a page out of Kogan's books who look after existing customers.

  • +2

After signing up, I entered my friend’s details for Refer a Friend promo. But when my friend received the email, he said there wasn’t any referral code. How to get my referral code for him?

    • +1

would like to know that too. The email they received had my name in it but no referral code to enter during the online sign-up

      • The referral code is also your customer number which is on your invoice. If you have any issues finding it, just call our accounts team and they can give it to you.

  • Sadly I can't get this offer as there is, in my areaa, apparently a "stop sell" on new orders.
Is there any way to find out if there is a time frame when this will be removed?

Or given this should I just find a different provider?

    • Stop sell is on HFC services if I'm not mistaken. No provider will be able to sell it to you until NBN releases the stop sell.

Check https://www.nbnco.com.au/ site and enter your address for estimate, but they're quite often not accurate (mine said Apr-Jun 2019 and it was actually available as of today).

The best way is to check the wholesale rollout sheet
      https://www.telstrawholesale.com.au/content/dam/tw/nbn/Docum…

But you'll need to know your area code which can be tough to find. I can't remember exactly how I found mine, but you might be able to find your area and get a rough estimate based on that.

  • Hi ABB StoreRep,
I am only 2-months with ABB, can I avail the new offer on the 50Mbps connection please as with my current plan my speed keeps getting shaped.

  • I got billed $79 for a month that I wasn't even connected to their service (Port out failed). When I inquired to get fixed and refunded, I basically got a To Bad So Sad. Next month they brought out a free month on sign up to everyone else in the world (Somethiong like that)
Now I upload 500gb to 1 Tb a month that I wouldn't usually do. Funny how things work out…

  • I think everyone here needs to know about whistleout.com.au… It's an extremely effective website for finding the cheapest broadband/mobile plans. You will see deals on there that are practically always either equal or better than the "deals" listed on OzBargain.

    • +4

Probably a good way of finding oversold cheap NBN providers with congested speeds…

  • I'm salty. Time to start provider hopping. Otherwise I'll never get a discount.

  • damnit i dont get nbn until december 4th

    • You can pre-order

    • yep mines not available for another few weeks and they let me sign up.
I think their policy is the NBN activation date has to be within 3 months then they will do a preorder for you.

  • +1

Signed up last month on the previous promo so was a bit annoyed to see this one especially as I'm still on a pre-order thanks to the NBN not being available for another few weeks.
Called up ABB and the service was brilliant. Allowed me to switch to the new promo without any real issues.
Definitely recommend Aussie Broadband so far

    • Maybe I will call and try. Everything here says they won't change it.

      • Even their own rep did and it's been said many times by them on here and WP as well

        That’s it…
Yep, that’s it! A new promotion to get our 2018-19 financial year off to a flying start. If you miss entering the promo code or see this offer after you sign up, sorry but no backsies, you've probably chosen to join us because you've already heard about our services.

  • +1

I just learned that Australia Broadband is a different company than Aussie Broadband. Even though it comes up higher on Google search for "Aussie Broadband" (because they have an ad). Well, I am quite lucky that they don't have a spot to enter "promo code" or I'd have made a fatal error…

  • I would like to SWITCH from MyRepublic if the SWITCH is easy and quick.

May I use MyRepublic's NBN Modem with ABB?

Do I need to configure the modem after I sign up? or it will be an automatic transfer

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

    • +1

What technology? All but HFC is pretty straightforward and quick as long as there isn't a stop sell in place.

      • I'm on FTTN, use MR's Gateway which is Technicolor Modem/WiFiRouter: TG789MYRvac v2

        Thanks!

        • +1

It'll be a quick transfer. Check your address on the signup page to see if there is a stop sell or not.
Modem will work with Aussie. Not sure if Mr use ppoe or dhcp. Aussie use dhcp
