Nice price, if only Aus had the dual sim version.

Nokia Australia website says it does have dual sim.

        Provide link if possible..

It should be single Sim version

There's only two models of the Nokia 7 plus; TA-1062 (international), and TA-1042 (China version). Both have dual sim

        • Oh what the. Didn't realise this model existed

        • Unfortunately I think you are right, I got confused by the footnote #4 at the bottom of the page: Nokia 7 Plus Dual SIM has a hybrid card slot for either second SIM card or MicroSD card.

      • +5

        I bought my 7 Plus from JB, it's a TA-1055. Single SIM.

    • +3

      Why, this has NFC?

    • Just read the details on NFC being in a very small spot to the top left of the back… is it really that bad? I'm looking for an upgrade and this phone ticks a lot of the right boxes.

      • +4

I have this phone and use contactless payments frequently. NFC section of the phone is relatively small but works flawlessly so long as you know where it is and what part of the phone to hold onto the reader.

        • +1

Originally, I was holding the centre of the phone to the terminal and it was pretty spotty. Once I figured out it was near the camera, it worked flawlessly, it's much easier tapping the top of the phone anyway since you can keep a firm grip on it.

      • No probs using android pay on mine.

      • I also have this phone, and use it several times a day for Android Pay. I have no more issue with NFC on it than I had with my iPhone 6 Plus or Google Pixel.

  • This or Motorola G6 plus

This, price match with OW.. use discounted gift card to pay.. more savings

      • How does one acquire these discounted Office Works gift cards? Can you pay for price beat with gift cards?

Never done a price beat before.

    • G6 plus has a low end processor. This is much better

      • But it has dual sim.

      • +1

        not just processor,
the nokia is android one, it’s treble compliant, is on pie already and has the dec security patches already, nokia are differentiating themselves by following very close behind google and pixel updates via android one.

nothin worse than a phone with slow software support. moto aren’t bad but not as good as nokia, I will never buy LG again unless they do an android one phone….v20 got oreo 9 months after commitment date.

        • Sure, except Nokia 8 Sirocco still hasn't got Android Pie and it's Android One. Nokia 8 has Pie but with a bunch of features missing.

    • if you really need dual sim get a grey nokia , if you need warranty and dual sim get the moto.
dual sim is less of an issue in australian market because many plans come with a lot of data and unlimited calls unless you are so budget constrained you need to sim slut each month, i used to have dual sim, one for calls and one for data, no need anymore, plan has unlimited calls and over 30gb data.

apple didn’t even bother with dual sim.

dual sim so one number for work and one for personal, i use my personal number for work so it’s tax deductible, if work wants to give me a number and a flagship phone then cool, i’d have 2 phones as work doesn’t think it’s cool doing non work stuff during paid hours.

      • +2

Less complacted way, us to put the work sim into call forwarding.

Since most plans now include unlimited calls, usually forwarding is also free.

I then have my work phone number saved as "work" so i know when a work call comes in, as opposed to personal.

The ONLY downside to that is you need to ask them their number if you want to call back, no biggie.

        • I've been doing this also, another downside for me is sms. Some colleagues text me and of course those aren't forwarded. So I have to check sms every now and then.

  • +1

Outstanding phone, however it has some issues. The software is quite buggy and there have been some reports of loose/deteriorating usb-c ports, but with a local warranty there shouldn't be a problem.

    • +7

I haven't had any major issues with this phone. In fact software wise it's the best phone I've ever owned.

Android P update made the phone even more snappier for me too.

      • Not too laggy when playing 3d games?

        • I don't really game on my phone, maybe a bit of OSRS from time to time. There's plenty of youtube videos showing gaming performance though.

      • +1

They did a pretty good job fixing most of the software issues in the latest Pie Dec 2018 update, however there are some which haven't been fixed:

        • Unstable WiFi connection, frequently disconnects and reconnects
        • Occasionally, audio comes through speakers when 3.5mm jack is plugged in, phone is mute when headphones are unplugged (fixed by a restart)
        • When not using gestures, home button is not centred with outer circle

Older issues that may or may not have been fixed (Originally occurred infrequently and hasn't happened to me on the latest update yet)

        • Screen refuses to turn on for up to ~10 minutes when trying to unlock the phone. Soft resetting fixes it.
    • +2

i have this phone and no issues, if you reckon there are issues be specific eg issue, software version, etc. and if personally experienced. i never had wifi issues even before dec update, might just be how mine is set up.
i’ve never had screen issues on oreo or pie.
often people are doing funny configs / dumb things when they reckon there is an issue.
i’m on pie with dec security patches.

      • Me too. Runs great.

    • I had USB port issue with my China version of this phone. Broke after 5 months of use. No longer charges. Most shops won't repair it. Managed to call up the preferred Nokia repairer who will fix it for $110.

      • Could you give me the contact details of the repairer you used? I've also got a grey import and am pretty worried about the charging port failing on me.

        • Not sure which state you're in. You can locate one HERE

  • Yeah mkbhd gave an honourable mention in his list of best budget smartphones this year

i think he meant the nokia 7.1 that just released in the USA. the 7 plus never came to the US

  • +1

What's people's opinions on how this stacks up against the Nokia 8 Sirocco or the Nokia 7.1? Both are within a reasonable price difference to this (although the Sirocco is over $100 more).

I was inclined in going with the Sirocco ($100 more for a SD835). Or the 7.1 (slightly less, but newer and longer lifespan on software updates). Thoughts?

    • i would get the 7.1. better screen, more updates, camera has OIS, newer design. similar battery life due to more efficient processor

    • The Nokia 7.1 from JB comes with 32 GB internal storage as opposed to 64 GB on the Nokia 7 Plus, which is something to consider. The biggest plus of the Nokia 7.1 is since it is a newer phone it will get official software updated for longer (though this is a gamble, as Nokia/ Google could stop supporting software updates at the same time as the launch was Feb, 2018 and Oct, 2018). The 32 GB internal storage is the biggest deal breaker for me, otherwise I would have jumped on it. Though both have support for SD cards, so that's a plus

This is a great comparison video between the 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au5PrbqBPKU

  • How does this hold up against note 4? Looking to replace if its worth the change.

    • +2

Like the 5 year old Samsung galaxy note 4? I had one and ditched it. Basically anything is an improvement. Had a mi a1 but cracked the screen and am now using a mi Max 3. I would be all over this deal if I hadn't bought a replacement.

  • +1

Bought this a few weeks back from eglobal. Wish i waited to get local warranty.

  • I've had one for a few months. Runs well. Only thing I dont like is I cant turn the stabliser off on the video, so it crops in (looks like zoom) when you shoot video, normal for photos. It might just be me not setting something right. Otherwise I'm very happy for this price point.

    • The stabilisation really is terrible. If you change the resolution of the rear camera to 4k, it will turn off stabilisation. Otherwise, there are google camera mods that give you the option to turn it off at 1080p but you loose the OZO audio features of the Nokia camera.

  • Nice price but I think I'd prefer to hold out for a oneplus 6 to pop up at sub 500 in the not too distant future.

  • +1

So for me, the specs (and what I believe to be the build quality) of this phone is plenty for me and I guess most users.

I have a Sony Xperia Z, the first one. I think it has 2gb RAM, 16gb ROM, 13 megapixel camera. 5.something " phone. I think those are the main specs. And it's a perfectly nice phone which I'll use until it dies as it does everything I want and I don't think I would "use" the enhanced specs of better phones, other than experiencing a slightly faster experience.

So it's nice to see an Australian version of this phone in the $400 range. Hopefully we'll see Australian versions of phones with specs like this fall to $300, and then $200.

I know that we can buy phones from Alibaba for around $200 with similar specs, but personally i'd feel more comfortable with an Australian phone and one in which I don't need to configure the OS.

  • pity I paid $529 for mine 3 weeks ago … :-(

Does JB have price Guarantees ?

They put imei on receipt so you can't buy another and swap with old receipt.

    • If you paid by credit card you may have buyer protection.

  • +6

This is the best phone I've had so far. If you're tossing up getting one, pull your finger out of your ass and buy it now before the price goes up

    • What phone did you use before?

      • Sony Xperia zl, OnePlus one, xiaomi mi max and xiaomi redmi note 4x. I know they aren't exactly high end smartphones but the Nokia seriously blows them out of the water

  • my Nexus 5X died recently due to the known bootloop issue. I tried but could not resurrect it. Any thoughts on how this would compare to the 5X? Currently using an iPhone SE which has been fine but I am having trouble reading the screen these days :) I assume performance wise this would be better than the SE?

    • Should be much better than the 5x which came out in '15 or 16 if i remember correctly. I've used it for almost 6 months now and it's camera, performance, build are very commendable for the price and the battery life is outstanding which is sadly quite rare on phones these days. I have noticed a lot of minor bugs in the form of random forced shut downs, recurring chimes after plugging in the phone ever since Android pie but ymmv. Overall though, real good vfm at this price

    • +1

My nexus 5x also bombed out, yesterday. Tried many different ways to fix the bootloop but nothing. Looking at a Nokia as a replacement. Boxing sales here we come!

      • +1

Did u try the heat gun treatment? Worked for me atleast enough to get stuff off it.

        • Yeah I couldnt be bothered doing that so I got a new phone today. Looked pretty amazing that it could fix it, albiet for a while?. My stuff is always backedup so it doesnt matter if it goes to the crapper.

  • What is the IP rating on this phone ? Recently lost 2 phones to water damage.

    • IP54 so OK for a splash, but not immersion

  • I grey imported one of the chinese ones.. sideload all the updates.. good phone.

Hi Guys - I just successfully did a price match with Harvey Norman so can use my $50 Amex credit (expires tomorrow).
    Cheers

    • Thanks, no worries price matching at Harvey's for me either.

  • How is the battery life of this phone and camera?

    • Answers are in the comments

      • Not from someone real life experience

    • Battery life is excellent - 2-3 days of average use.
