      Can you share a link?

      • Doesn't sound right but anything is possible in ebay la la land where consumer law is regularly flouted with impunity.

  • Spending $100 or more in one transaction during the offer period, up to a maximum discount of $150

FTFY - man, it's finally the time where I can complain about just buying something. Ohh well, considering all the bargains I've made use of it was bound to happen.

  • +2

So does this need to be used on ebay plus items only or can it be used on anything on ebay, ive got $170 worth of stuff in my cart and when I enter the code it says "Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again". Ive never used ebay plus and signed up this morning for the free trial.

    • +1

It does say site-wide in the T&C's, but I'm getting the same error as you. Code should have started 12:00 AM (AEDT) on 17 January 2019 but doesn't look like it has.

EDIT: Looks like for new signups they will activate the code within 48 hours, maybe to prevent you from cancelling as soon as you make a purchase.

    • +3

Fulfilment. The 15% off sitewide coupon will be sent via email and/or eBay Message Centre within 48 hours of signing up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus during the Offer Period.

It is definitely a site wide coupon, however, it seems that new members might need to wait for their email/message before being able to use the code.

      • +1

Well that sucks, so they make you wait 48 hours to use a 15% promotional code for a FREE trial, what rubbish.

  • So looking through the T&C, it states
A maximum of 1 transaction applies. Multiple items may be purchased in one transaction (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction

Does anyone know if a transaction spans multiple sellers??

    • +2

No problem, as long as you have at most 10 items in your cart they can all be from different sellers. Oh note: they have to be in the same currency to be able to check them out together.

      • +1

Great thanks, might be able to get some value out of this :)

I understand that every company will offer exclusive deals to new customers in order to entice greater numbers, but this is getting ridiculous. The whole purpose of having eBay Plus is for the shipping savings and exclusive deals, but you often only save a few dollars on the “free shipping” since retailers charge more for the item, and I haven’t received a special deal since sign up.

This isn’t a service provider like a Telco where new customers get special offers but at least the existing customers receive a standard service. With eBay Plus, it seems that the new customers get special offers whilst the existing ones receive effectively nothing.

A complete waste of money that’s bordering on a scam. Stupid move by eBay, with Amazon looking to cement itself in the next few years. I imagine that eBay Plus was designed to compete with Prime or obtain more competitive pricing on their own platform, but in reality the only thing it’s doing is pushing us away. Good job, fleabay.

    • +1

Yep, when it comes time to renew eBay Plus in June I will be cancelling in favour of Prime. The only thing i've received to make Plus worthwhile were those cheap micro sd's right at the start.

      • +3

I'm in tow minds. I did have some crappy customer service at the start , then lately it's been really good (I bought some 2nd hand switch, the seller didn't include a power cord and they said bad luck, then I noticed it had rust & dents not mentioned on the listing, the seller refused to discuss the issue, ebay stepped in organised free return postage, then made the seller refund, the seller then cancelled the refund before I got it, so ebay stepped in again and sorted it out with Paypal and also give me a $10 coupon).

It's been probably worth the $30/yr we paid, but not $60.
Amazon OTOH is totally worth it. I love being able to send people random things to say thank you (someone a few desks away is getting a $1.50 box of BBQ shape tomorrow :-)

  • +2

Well, time to open a new account then…

  • SOB! Considered joining to get extra discount on tyres but it excludes car parts. Would have saved $135 on the tyres.

  • +5

WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE CONTEMPT FOR THEIR SIGNED AND PAID UP LOYAL CUSTOMERS?!

This is a good deal, but it's meh for me as I am not a new customer. OzB needs a yellow meh button.

    • +5

Sure you are a new customer. As soon as you open a new account…

  • +3

Poor once again, got in at $29 deal but little to show for it. Since then new users got a Google mini for a $49 plan which effectively made the plan free, now new users get 15% off up to $150 meaning a saving of $100 if you max the coupon out. Seems original supporters got the rawest deal.

    • I saved a fair bit originally when they had 25% off specific sellers w/ eBay plus. Haven't had anything good since though.

    • I m in same boat. Go online and chat with ebay and complain. More complain and they may do something.
They first offered me free google home mini and now they offered me $70 voucher so that i can buy google home mini by myself….Its worth giving a try..

    • If you're going to max out the coupon, still worth signing up for a new account to get your $100 overall discount.

    • I complained and got a $20 voucher because i kept telling them over and over that its a shit service and amazon prime is 1000000% better 😂.

Let the flaming their support begin!

  • +20

eBay plus is the most useless membership I have signed up for, even with all these discount is not worth it. Amazon prime is the best.

    • exactly! in other words, it's just useless and bullshit. I don't think I've even made my $29's worth lol

  • +6

    Amazon Prime here I come

  • +2

Everyone seems to be complaining about the whole ebay plus thing. Is it possible to join just for this 15% off deal for the free trial period then leave before the trial period is up? Or is there something I'm not aware of (it does sound too easy)

    • +1

If you cancel before the 30 days is up then you wont get charged anything, after the 30 days you will get charged $49.95.

  • This is ridiculous

  • my account is feeling old.

  • I signed up ebay plus yesterday……

  • Doesn't seem to work for me. I just signed up.

"Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again."

    • Doesn't seem like the code is actually AUPLUSJAN15, seems like a generated code that theyll send you for some reason.

The 15% off sitewide coupon will be sent via email and/or eBay Message Centre within 48 hours

      • It will be AUPLUSJAN15 you will just have to wait up to 48 hours for them to activate it on your account by the looks of it.

  • +3

no love for existing members that actually paid ?!

  • +7

Get 100 new members, lose 1000 old ones. Good tactic eBay!

  • No way new eBay Plus member :(

  • +2

Screw eBay. NEW only? Garbage program. What a joke.

    • Create new account.. Whats the problem?

      • +2

From the plus terms “There is a maximum of one free 30-day trial of eBay Plus per eBay member. You may not use or create another eBay account in order to take advantage of the free 30-day trial more than once.”

I’m sure it’s been done but I’m sure they could also “eBay reserves the right to terminate your eBay Plus membership at any time in its discretion, without notice to you, and without refunding your membership fees - for example, if eBay considers that you are misusing the eBay Plus service.”

        • Dang I missed that. It seemed to have worked in activating the Plus but no code yet. Let’s see how it goes

        • I've had about 5 trials

I've also got a fully paid membership.

All trials using the same phone and address details. Zero issues.

  • +2

If 15% off feeBay is very important to you, rather than spending time complaining how unfair this is to existing feeBay Plus members, create a new account and wait 48 hours for the voucher code. Then, cancel the account. The fact they need extra goodies constantly to entice people to join feeBay Plus already shows that feeBay Plus isn't that good for most people.

It's hard to imagine a lot of people purchase essential items from feeBay, and given that it if feeBay, the real discount after the typical 10% fee (which is embedded in the item price) is around 5%. It's not a huge problem.

    • What happens if you need to return the item in 9 months time for warranty purposes? Would it not be better to keep it open for 12 months?

      • +1

What items are you referring to? Most electronic items, unless you purchase from big sellers (Officeworks, BigW, Good Guys), you will most likely need to arrange RMA with the actual manufacturers.

Also, realistically, a lot of these bigger sellers offer return postage for non-eBay Plus members. I did return an item to a reasonably big seller and the seller arranged return postage (that was before eBay Plus was available). Furthermore, nowadays, even for casual sellers, when a dispute is raised, the eBay workflow actually expects sellers to provide return postage (even if the listings clearly states buyers need to pay for return postage).

Let's be realistic here. The return benefit is: free returns on Plus items. Are most of us REALLY going to use this 15% off on feeBay Plus items only? The attractive part of this 15% off is "sitewide".

        • You're right. I assumed that when the account was cancelled, it's cancelled immediately.

I just cancelled mine and it's valid till the end.

          • @giventofly: Yes - but if you cancelled during the trial it would only be open during the trial, i.e. 30 days. In 9 months time you would be a non-Plus member again.

      • This is a free 30 day trial. If you want to stay on any longer you have to pay $50 fee for the whole year. You can still return or get warranty from a product without eBay plus! It's your right as a consumer.

  • +1
    1. The 15% off sitewide coupon will be sent via email and/or eBay Message Centre within 48 hours of signing up

    2. To redeem this offer during the Offer Period, enter the redemption code AUPLUSJAN15 into the redemption code box during the checkout process before 11:59 PM (AEDT) on 28 February 2019.

via email or just enter this? So confused.

    • +1

I think it means you need to wait for their email/message before being able to use the standard redemption code.

  • If i win an auction, can i apply the code for 15% off?
Does it matter if the item is from ebay US?

    • It should apply if not expired and is activated on you’re account. As long as it’s through eBay.com.au it doesn’t matter where the item is from

  • +6

Being an existing eBay Plus Member why do I feel being left out.

  • +4

Up to 48h to receive the code. Knowing eBay they’ll reserve their right to end it at any time .. in 47 hours.

Great deal for new signups, but it’s frustrating it doesn’t apply to existing members! I haven’t received an offer in months. All items I have purchased are available from other sellers with free postage / combined price that nears that of eBay plus sellers.

  • +6

Remember when eBay sitewide deals got 1000’s of upvotes…. the minimum spend was reasonable, the exclusions were minimal oh and Officeworks & Target weren’t excluded entirely. There were no subscriptions, you could buy parts for your car and I’m pretty sure there was more joy in the world.

Lest we forget $5 free ebay vouchers
    10% on gift cards
15% of sitewide uk ebay site

This is just one promotion their doing, which we are still easily able to obtain by just making a new account. They may have dishonored us by being long term ebay members but still thankful for all the other deals they gave.

Btw: Didnt people also get free google minis for signing up to the trial??

      Entitled

How dare we pay for ebay plus and expect the promised 'exclusive deals and offers' only for ebay to give these offers and deals (google minis and discount codes) to new sign ups. we should all shut our mouths and applaud these fantastic consumer friendly business practices.

  • More fair if only for people paid for the Plus membership after the free trial.

    • More fair if it is available to everyone

  • +1

So I could sign up now for the 30 day trial, get the code, buy something and then cancel eBay Plus before the trial ends. Correct?

    • Ssshhhhhh

    • +1

Yeah, I am guessing this targeted offer is just to get more people to sign up to feeBay Plus, even if it just for 30 days. The fact that you cannot cancel it right away (need to wait 48 hours - otherwise no voucher) could potentially lead to some people forgot to cancel it in time.

  • For new only???

  • So in other words, pay $49 to get a one-time 15% sitewide code, then no other benefits (as current members have found out).

    • $49 to get a one-time 15% sitewide code

Free trial no need to pay $49.

  • If I join this offer now and purchase something worth $800 once I received the 15% code, can I still cancel the plus member next week without paying any subscription fee?
    Great if anyone can clarify?

    • Yep.cancel subscription after big purchase. Account will still be active till date of expiry ( subscription renewal date)

      • Thanks! I asked because I have another account with Prime and found that it is quite useless and don't want to pay another time.

  • +4

Wow ebay US and UK gave the 15% off to everyone and ebay Australia have the nerve to decline the same deal to current ebay plus members in Australia!?

    • The lucky country

  • +3

What I wish eBay Plus would have been:

    • Free delivery on most items (I understand bulky items not being included), but it shouldn't have to be an eBay Plus item to qualify.
    • Monthly 'Lightning Deal' or equivalent. A popular item that is discounted or even a regular code with no minimum spend.
    • Free to sell a few items per month
    • Discounted Express Delivery or Free even? Too much to ask?

Is it just me or are they being incredibly stingy? What ever happened to the saying, "You have to spend money to make money" - surely the money they 'invest' in their eBay Plus program will be insatiable to bargain hunters and folks will sign-up in their droves?

With Amazon Prime, for a reasonable yearly fee, I get their video subscription service (maybe music and audiobooks?) but I also get probably the best customer service on the planet. If the Aussie store had the catalog the US enjoys, it would be a complete no-brainer for everyone.

WTF does eBay have to offer to even remotely compete? A crappy 10% discount with a minimum spend?

  • +3

For anyone who is complaing that existing plus memeber are not getting any benefit - Go online and chat with ebay and complain. More complain and they may do something. They first offered me free google home mini and now they offered me $70 voucher so that i can buy google home mini by myself from ebay….Its worth giving a try… Let them know that you are angry with poor treatment of plus members….

    • Actually sounds like a good scheme.. err idea.

    • Hey, is calling them the only way to get in touch with them? Or is there a live chat or email?

      • Live chat.

  • Other Lots More Items (88433)

    What's in this list?

  • Has anyone been able to successfully use the code yet?

  • Thanks to this deal I managed to cancel my free trial plus membership before it expires! Thanks ebay!

  • I just signed up for eBay plus yesterday…will this exclude me?

  • I've just cancelled my eBay Plus. I only ever used it once for free shipping on a laptop. All the other items I have purchased have not been part of eBay Plus.

I also have Amazon Prime and I get better value for money for my subscription.

  • +3

    People feeling really entitled!
Lest we forget $5 free ebay vouchers
    10% on gift cards
15% of sitewide uk ebay site
This is just one promotion their doing, which we are still easily able to obtain by just making a new account.

All these actions of opening multiple accounts are frowned upon by Ebay and thus many multiple a/cs are closed .

Is it so wrong to get a decent promo without resorting to multiple accounts ?

    • -1

I completely understand your view that ebay should have covered the people who actually paid for ebay plus but let me us you

Would you hate your uncle if he gave you presents every year and many other presents within the year but this one time completely forgot about you? or would you appreciate everything that was given thus far OR resort to having a whinge for this one off.

I can see if it happen multiple times but this is once!

prepare to have your mind blown to learn that ebay is our uncle. cheers uncle ebay

      • Excep they have had many new plus member only promotions. And it isnt a freaking gift, we payed them our hard earned money and they have given us basically no benefits excluding the launch sale. Most items on ebay dont even have plus shipping, its a joke.
