    One word - AMAZON

    • US Amazon is shipping to AU again afaik?

      • Yes, and free shipping for prime memebers on orders over 49$

      • +2

Only for items sold directly by Amazon, not 3rd party sellers.

  • +3

Anybody received their coupon yet? Added Ebay Plus around 3hrs ago but nothing yet.

    • they're likely to only send it out around 48hrs later I think because of this
"If you cancel your free 30-day trial of eBay Plus within the first 48 hours of signing up, you will no longer be eligible for the offer"
if they sent out the code earlier than 48 hrs, you can then apply the code, buy the item and still cancel your sub, so that condition wouldn't make sense.

      • I could get the code after 300 hours and still close my account within 30 days. I guess they're banking on people forgetting to cancel the trial (which will undoubtedly happen for a LOT of people).

  • Absolute joke. Going to cancel my Plus subscription as well.

  • Use the 30 day trial, but do not buy eBay plus its useless.
They say you get discounts etc but not true and then the go and do this new uses only.

  • +1

    15% off eBay gift cards?

  • +1

This was the last straw, cancelling my ebay plus subscription. What an absolute spit in the face of their existing customers that have already given them 30-50$. Why would anyone sign up for a recurring membership when they see the codes are for "new users only". I really hope they realise they've lost more subscriptions then they will gain with this joke of a promotion. Atleast amazon prime actually is worth it (Free shipping on amazon au, free shiping on international amazon above 49$, twitch prime games (valued well of the sub price each month), twitch prime sub (5$ value, same as subscription), prime music, prime video etc.. Ebay really need to step up their game.

    • +1

      RIP eBay

Which is why Amazon has revenue 18x of eBay, and has a market cap of ~20x source

      • Like seriously, they mustn't be that stupid to not realise that this promotion would annoy literally every existing subscriber they have right?

        • promotion would annoy literally every existing subscriber they have right?

I think they are aware existing eBay plus members (whilst logged in) won't see the ads for 15% promo. So it's likely theyd never know (unless they read about it on other sites like OB).

But I say, simply play ebay at its own game. Just open multiple accounts.

          • @ash2000: I was logged in and saw the ad and got excited. Clicked on it and it told me I am already a member. :-(

      • Which is why Amazon has revenue 18x of eBay, and has a market cap of ~20x source(en.wikipedia.org)

But not in Australia (yet), ebay is the overwhelming market leader.

Can this be stacked with the Dell 20% off?

    • +1

Sadly, Codes can never be stacked on eBay.

      • Ahh, yeah, good point. Oh well, will wait out the next Dell sale on their site, similar to Boxing day's amazing pricing.

  • can we just sign up a new account and get ebay plus for free then buy stuffs, before the trial expires cancel the plus member?

    • That's how I read it. But you have to stay a member for more than 2 days for the deal it looks like.

      • buy things whenever the code arrived, then cancel plus membership, cost nothing to get 15% off

  • -1

I'm going to pull trigger on something worth $2500.
Best to wait for a better deal or go now?

    • +2

Just know that max discount will be $150

    • I'm in a similar boat ($1600) and I'm going to pull the trigger when my 15% code gets activated (did the new sign up for plus, never used it before).

I'm thinking there's a 0 - 25% chance I may get a better deal some time in the next 12 months, greater than 15% savings or more than $150 total savings has not been around for a while. It may never happen again..

I think there is a much greater risk the I'll end up saving less than the 15% (or $150) if I wait for the next "deal"..

      • +1

Me too - I was about to buy a $450 3d printer - this drops that to about $390 - pays for itself…

    • Just remember it's capped at $150 discount.

edit beat me to it ..

    • How often do the 10% $300 max discount roll by?
I used to see them often but read here they’re getting worse as time goes on (recent 5% at min &100 spend I recall seeing)

      • I think ebay is in a comfortable position right now. Which means they don't have to do these very often anymore.

        • Bam 10% max $300 via Ebay app.

          • @S0041464: True.

But they are adding conditions to their deals that previously were not there.

So first ebay plus and new signups only, now ebay app only.

Previously, no strings attached aside from minimum spend, which is also creeping up.

  • +1

ebayplus is useless when they decide to give discount to new user only

  • I think better to buy eBay gift cards then use the code 15%+ 15% off.

    • -1

Are you saying I can get 15% off gift cards and still get an additional 15% off using this code?? Or are you implying we create 2 accounts?

      • Could past tense, the 15% off cards was last week

        • Damn, how did I miss that!

          /sobs in the corner

  • I've had an eBay account since '06 but never used eBay+. Am I eligible for this 15% off code? And is it a one time use code?

    • +2

      I'd say yes.

You just need to sign up for eBay Plus free trial, then after 48hrs it'll enable the code for you.

Then after that you can cancel the eBay Plus trial and keep your discount, or keep it if you have some crazy reason for wanting to pay $49 a year for ….. we're still trying to work out what that $49 will really give..

      • +1

        Cheers mate.

  • +3

This actually reminded me to cancel my existing membership.

  • +7

Cancelled my plus account with "no benefit to me" reason.

    • +2

      Just did the same.

  • Thank you again for giving loyal big spenders the arse

  • +9

An eBay CSR just told me that ALL eBay Plus members will be receiving the magical email which entitles them to 15% off. Should be coming through within the next 24-48hrs.

    I guess we will see…

    • Let me guess on timing. Around Aussie day ..

    • Does ALL include shrewd eBay Plus members (i.e. me) already decided not to continue after the trial ended?
Anyway, in a way, I prefer not to have the voucher, lots of bills to pay, must stop impulsive buys just to take advantage of 15%.

    • +1

Sadly, seems like the eBay CSR lied to you. Code is only working on my new eBay Plus account, not my existing one.

      • How long did you have to wait for the code work after creating the new account?

      • Hasn't been 48hrs yet… so can't confirm. Will be back on Live Chat if it's not working after 48hrs has passed though.

    • After not receiving the code I checked with another CSR and they said the last CSR was incorrect. They gave me a unique code to make up for it, but other people will not be receiving the 15% off code via email. New members only.

  • Been a member since 08

Signed uo for plus at 1pm..any ideas when this code will come?

    Also by email?

    • +1

Wait 48 hours and if still no sign of it, chat with feeBay CSR online and see what they can do. FeeBay Plus members suppose to get better service.

      • Cool thanks!

      • so, the "better service" starts with a 48 hour delay - that's a new definition for service, ebay…

        • I'm still waiting on service from several years ago :-)

  • If you signed up for the 3 month trial at Christmas, are you classed as a NEW member? I guess not.

  • meaning those who signed up like now? If signed up from last 3 months free offer, then we're not eligible correct?

  • Ha, ive signed up for ebay plus,

been trying to enter the code every couple of hours or so in case my email hasnt arrived or the code is activated first

  • Should be for existing members too

  • -1

Where are we supposed to enter the AUPLUSJAN15 code.

I just went through the free trial signup and there was no box to key in redemption code. May be im missing something.

    • +1

When you buy something. When you go to pay. There will be a box for coupon code. This accepts ebay discount codes and gift cards.

      • +1

but, apparently the coupon code will not work until you have been notified by ebay that it is enabled - which they say should happen within 48 hours.

seriously, ebay - 48 hours. you have acres of server farms, and it takes you two days to send an email…

  • Does "excludes bikes" include electric scooters?

  • -7

Does not exclude gift cards. So buy gift card and buy from officeworks. Beat the system.

    • It does exclude gift cards.

  • -1

So, will they send a unique code or do I use the generic one posted here? I signed up last night but still get the message 'Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again.'

    • -1

judging by similar comments, you need to wait to get an email from them, sometime within the next 48 hours, at which point it is activated…

Seriously ebay, this isn't the 60's - doing the overnight batch data update isn't an excuse anymore.

      • +1

The delay is intentional. They're banking on people forgetting to cancel their eBay Plus member ship before the end of the 30-day trial.

  • +4

What load of BS on ebay's part. Don't worry about rewarding your existing loyal customers, just focus on getting new ones!

    • +1

There's a post above somewhere that claims an eBay CSR said that all exiting Plus members will also get the 15% off - an email will come through soon for you too.

      • He sounds more like a BSR

  • Anyone got their coupon yet?

    • still waiting signed up yesterday afternoon

      • +1

me too cart is loaded :(

        • Loaded is an understatement!!

    • Nope

  • So sign up to 30 day trial, cancel after 3 days is ok?
    Tried the code: AUPLUSJAN15
Got the error: Looks like that's the wrong code. Please double-check and try again.
I have to wait for a special code after signing up to Plus?

  • Doesn't apply to car parts , was going to buy roof racks.. Sellers need to list in other categories like industrial products or something like that

  • should be 48 hours from PLUS sign up. "The exclusions are Cars, Bikes, Boats, Car & Truck Parts,Coins ,Cards , Real Estate and Tickets or travels". according to the person i spoke to on the chat.

  • +9

    Upvotes: hundreds
Successful application of discount coupon: zero

    • +1

ebay giving the retailers time to jack?

    • +5

100% agreed. People should only upvote once they have successfully made use of the deal.

      • +2

This, mods. The current system is entirely a popularity contest with no bearing to the quality of the deal.

        • -5

That's a complete farce, no matter who the OP is, if the deal isn't good then the voting reflects that.

It's been shown that if there's a bad eBay deal, then it either doesn't get many votes, or gets negged, such as the 5% off deal.

There's no requirement to vote on a deal if you have used it, only if you personally think it's a good deal and to thank the OP for taking their own time for free to post.

          • @doweyy: But there's also been instances when deals have been upvoted to oblivion and then it turns out to be a crap deal. For e.g. when eBay did a 20% off selected sellers and removed a whole bunch of sellers from the list the next day. My point being that people's initial impression of whether a deal is good or not may not be accurate until they've actually made use of the deal.

            • +1

@russbuss: But that logic is still totally flawed because regardless of false positives:

People should only upvote once they have successfully made use of the deal.

Means that any deal that happens in the future will never be seen until it's too late..

So you'd prefer that we miss out on deals altogether rather that see a deal in a list somewhere that you think is not a great deal.

What harm is done from the up voted deal? I'm at a loss to why it annoys you so, it seems a tad petty.

              • @iDroid: Just to clarify, I've never said that it annoys me, I'm just making a proposal. I just believe that the whole point of the upvoting system is for good deals to be reflected by the number of upvotes. Unfortunately, this purpose is not achieved if dud deals receive a ton of upvotes before they are even verified to work. The premise that my proposed system will make people miss out on deals is not really an issue. If you are such a dedicated OzBargainner that you must not miss out on a single good deal, you can always watch the Deals page (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals) and go through every deal that is posted. Good and popular limited deals will be eventually OzBargained eventually either way.

                • @russbuss: OzBargain is not just for dedicated OzBargainners.

I really think the system works just fine right now, I think your suggestion would break the usefulness of the whole system.

Personally I think that the voting system works well to bring deals that us readers find useful/interesting/good to the forefront.

The votes only reflect what us readers value and it seems that a good proportion of us think it's a good deal.

Hence it deserves its votes, fulfilled its purpose and DID end up being an awesome deal for me.

All that aside, I don't see how stopping voting on deals that are not yet active is very useful, lots of deals need action before they are active.

It's a bit like saying we can't vote on any deal until you've successfully received the item in the deal - every deal here can go bad even after the code is applied/order made/etc.

It's not something that's really worth arguing about, we disagree, I'm cool with that, I gave my opinion on why I disagree (I would be $150 worse off right now if I had not seen this deal 2-3 days ago!) so I'm slapping a $150 saving behind my opinion - hard to change my mind here :)

      • +5

Personally I'd like to see the deal before it's needed.

I needed to register as an eBay Plus member - if this had no votes I'd have missed the boat.

        So 100% disagree :)

  • +3

Has anyone received a code yet? Or been eligible for this offer?

    • +1

      not yet.
