  • How can I "Spend" $4000, without really spending $4000? Any Ideas ? Flip Items with help of eBay ?

    • -3

Try booking a free cancellation hotel way out in the future
get the Qantas points credited to your account and then get a refund. I dont think they will go as far as clawing back your bonus from qantas

Pretty dishonest here. No need to openly scam them like this when it's not that hard to make gift card purchases etc and get over the limit that way or similar.

        • Did read someone's same question. I'll go for Woolworth cards with 5% discount. For the groceries and petrol.

      • Or a fully refundable Business Ticket to overseas, maybe with Qantas. Not very honest either.

Private health insurance renewal at 31/03/2019, 10% ebay gift card, electricity bill, mobile bill. internet bill.

Easy to make up to $4000

Just the problem here is, will you get approved?

      • I am currently spending for the Westpac Altitude card

        • dont be greedy then to have 2 cards in a short time

    • just buy things for your mum/dad/family members, whoever on your card and then get them to give you the cash.

    • +1

Buy coles/woolworths gift cards when they're on special. You will always need groceries plus you'll be saving money too.

  • Anyone had a low salary (between 60-65k) and got approved from this card? I only have 1 current credit card atm with a low limit
I just want to know my chances of getting approved if I do apply

    • no one know mate. the chances/formula are bank secrets. imagine if people know they will game the system.

    • no chance

    • when I applied on the previous deal, wasn't mention on the $75k income, I applied and got approved.

  • conditionally approved

  • Was about to apply for Bankwest no foreign fees card and then saw this deal :(

I signed up a couple of months back. A good offer but they are completely useless. Trying to pay off the card is nigh on impossible unless you bank with them.

They don't send me statements, they don't provide info on the website on how to pay and their direct debit form had a return email address that no longer works.

They are a complete joke of a bank and I'll leave as soon as the 80k points comes through.

    • +9

You can pay with BPAY. Your customer reference number is your credit card number, and the St.George Biller Code is 9779.

      Source: https://info.stgeorge.com.au/amplify/signature/special_featu…

    • +1

You can get online statement mate. And as above BPAY is the easiest option. Does that mean you haven't paid your balance in 2mths?

    • That’s the complete opposite experience to mine. St George is the only bank that texts me 5 days before my payment is due and even includes the amount owing in the text. I don’t even need to look at statements just bpay it when I get the text and I’m done. Best experience of the around 10 different cards I’ve held in the last year.

  • Saw this as one of the features listed:

0% p.a. for 6 months on balance transfers requested at new card application.^ Rate then switches to variable cash advance rate. Interest free days don't apply to cards with outstanding balance transfers.

Does that mean we have to balance transfer from another card as part of the deal?

Edit: Nevermind, just re-read it a couple of times and understood it.

  • Haven't recieved points from last time and the customer service guys keep speculating one or other reason why I may not be eligible. Painfully frustrating.

    • +3

Don't know about your personal situation but my only 'trick' to be sure about bonus pts eligibility is to keep an eye on actual accrued points on the card as you spend. So when you hit say 3000 points ($4000X0.75) you would know that you've met the criteria. Otherwise it's too hard with various items that may or may not be eligible.

      • my trick to be sure is spend fast not paying government bills, ie follow the rules. then pay them off, then just call and ask them to verify if i have met the minimum spending. simple as that.

  • I don't need a hit to my credit score if the bank can't even confirm if am eligible for points or not.

    • +1

All the banks in Australia are like that… So….

  • +2

Wtf just signed up to the old deal for $179 annual fee

    • +1

Yeah i just signed up to 100k amplify for free but I want this. I haven't activated the card yet. Any chance I can cancel or change to this deal??

      • +2

Be careful as whilst the customer service may say yes but you may not be considered eligible for points if you held a card with St George in last 12 months.

        • I am conditionally approved but have had the card in the past 12 months. I stupidly applied before reading all of the terms.

From your experience, is it likely I will still be approved but ineligible for the points? I don't want the card if I don't get the bonus points!

          • @DaddysBelt: If you are approved then no harm going ahead with the card and hoping for the best.

  • Applied today and got declined, reason they cited was that I'm not an existing customer and that I haven't been with my current employer for at least 6 months (I've recently moved here from NZ). I Earn well above the minimum required and have a decent credit score in NZ.

I'm just wondering, am I going to experience the same outcome if I apply for credit cards at other banks, or are others more lenient around how long I've worked at my company for and not having an established credit score here? Any suggestions?

    • no one know, mate.
but if one bank think that then yeah probably the others will. and smaller banks usually are more strict.
maybe try get lower level credit card first. lower than platinum.

    • at least they gave you a reason, seems like others didn't get any explanation?

      • yes normally banks will not tell why (the rejections)

    • Are you with your current employer for at least 3 months? If so, you can probably try ANZ's deals like this one, since I was barely my 4th month at work and got approved.

    • I'd suggest you to wait a couple more months. The approval criteria is more or less the same across other banks as they are governed by APRA.

  • Has anyone from Victoria been able to apply for this card successfully?

I am not sure if they will insist on people from Victoria /Melbourne to apply from Bank of Melbourne instead?

    • yup, am conditionally approved. ID verified online for a Melbourne address.

      • Thank you :)

      • @squinly Did they end up fully approving the application? Thanks

        • Yes they did. Card on its way. How about you?

          • +1

@squinly: Just received my card today. I only applied after you confirmed you got the card. Took a while for them to process, but all good now. Thanks

  • Got some message saying my address supplied differs from the one in my account, but I don't have any active accounts.

It sucks being with a bank that doesn't have 24 hour phone support. ING really sets the standard.

surprised I have been conditionally approved. Im a student and work part time with weekly income of $450. For the credit limit I wanted to choose the smallest amount being $6000 but when i went to go next it stated i needed a minimum $15000, so I done that amount after the application it stated i wont be approved for $15000 that I didn't want but they will approve me for $6000. weird system but I guess it worked out good for me.

    • Similar thing happened to me when I was a student before. Applied for card that needed quite decent salary. Realised later I put my monthly wage in the box that asked for weekly wage.
So basically even though I earnt $1000/month, they thought I earnt $4000/month.
They never seemed to have any issues with me and had the card for 2 years.

      • What they never asked for payslips?

        • this was a while ago they said, at other institutions I have been approved of large amounts of credit without proving anything. applied and got sent the card within a week.
now it might be a bit more tighter from Royal Commission.

        • They did ask for payslips but it seems they didn't check them because the pay slips had the correct amount but they didn't update my salary in my account.

    • +1

How do you plan to spend 4k in 90 days as a student?

Let us know if you get fully approved, seems strange a student would get approved whilst many others here won't

      • agree. very strange indeed.

          1. I still live at home so I could pay for some bills when they're due.
          2. I want to book a holiday anyway so I could find some flight deals to JAPAN maybe
          3. buy some coles, woolworths giftcards when their on discount!
          4. Im 21 and lots of my friends are having birthfay parties, a few of which look like we are getting a boat in the harbour which I could pay for upfront and they could pay me back!
    • +1

The $6000 limit doesn’t apply to this deal. Seems they’ve offered you the lower card. Which pretty much means you won’t have access to this deal.

      • oooo could be could be. because my understanding is, a particular card will have a certain minimum credit limit and this is not negotiable. for example, a platinum card will have minimum $15k limit, not less than that, otherwise customer will have to go down to lower grade card.

      • hmmm hopefully under the important information where it goes into more detail about the rules that need to be followed it doesn't mention anything about credit limit.
if not ill be dammed but it didn't hurt to try.

        • +1

actually also on the email i received. Great news you've been conditionally approved for $6000 limit on AMPLIFY PLATINUM VISA CARD. so I think its the right card they didn't downgrade me to a lower card!

          • +1

@Laizay: The card for this deal is the signature not platinum.

            • +1

              @[Deactivated]: Ohh damn

              • +1

@Laizay: Not bad the platinum for me still gives 50000 points for $2000 instead of 4000. Thanks for picking that up!

                • @Laizay: That's actually pretty good.

Do you know if it's free for the first year for that one? Because doesn't seem like Platinum has a similar fee-free first year offer on the website

I agree with the other comments on this thread regarding St George's crap customer service.

I got a text message today after receiving conditional approval asking me to call St George to verify some info. I called up and was told to go to the nearest branch and present my ID. I explained that SA doesn't have a branch. The operator put me on hold for a while and eventually came back and said I needed to go to 'Martin Place'..

I explained that Martin Place is in NSW and asked if I could go into a Bank SA or verify my identity through other means. She finally suggested I go to Bank SA.

I then asked whether the card I applied for was fee-free for the first year. She couldn't confirm that. I then asked whether I had applied for the Qantas points (not the Amplify points). She couldn't confirm that either. She said that if it's the wrong one "you can just change it after you get the card".

I wasn't convinced with the answer so I asked her to please cancel my application. She instantly said that she has done just that. I thanked her and asked whether I would receive a confirmation email that my application had been cancelled. She replied that I needed to trust that she cancelled my application.. she then ended the call before I could say anything but refused to hang up (I suspect so that I wouldn't be able to leave feedback).

After a few minutes she eventually hung up and I left some honest feedback.

  • After reading the comments, I don’t think it is worth applying. Rather not have a rejected credit inquiry on my report.

  • I agree with the neg comments. The only credit card rejection that I have ever had was St.G.

  • I got rejected too, not 100% on their rational for it as I earn enough and have enough assets. Maybe they don't like churners like me.

It's not a bad deal but I'm negging it as to provide the warning that there is an issue applying for the card.

    • +1

from what i heard, assets means not much for banks. they want good salary, good credit rating, and stable employment and address.

      • Which is odd as I do have these. They did offer the platinum card to me in the application instead.

        • What's your credit rating?

  • +1

No Apple Pay is a deal breaker for me sadly.

    • +1

you signed up to post this? nice humble brag..

      • weird kind of brag to say 'my parents have money' when you currently earn below the required threshold :/

      • I don't make a lot of income, not sure how that comes off as a brag.

i just wanna know if it's possible to be approved

        • Sorry you signed up for OzBargain.
Not OzBraggin’. Easy mistake, we know.

  • Anyone know why I'd get rejected from this offer with: 'excellent' credit rating, no recent enquiries, no debt, six figure income, full time job, very little expenses, no rent or mortgage, aus citizen?
After that, I got same for commonwealth bank low rate card (i have a debit card with CBA already).

    • No one knows, thats banks secret and they won't tell you either.

Don't worry just think that they reject because they are jealous of your 6 figure income. don't be mad sad I prefer to have your income than a mere card. Truly. Really. Honestly.

      • Feel like I'm missing out on these bargains and benefits when I spend money.

        • +1

nah, mostly ozb will make people spend more, only new members think ozb is a place to save $

          • @CyberMurning: Just applied for ANZ one with free flight, lounge passes etc and got approved.
No idea how this stuff works!

    St. George Banking Group

    • Mind sharing a bit of background on your application??

      • Hmm not sure how i got it either

Currently holding at least 5 cc's across diff banks, most notably a westpac altitude black, which ive met the 3k spend on

luck of the draw i guess. I've never held a st george one if that helps

        • i see limit 16800, if you just need to bonus i suggest to always choose minimum limit if possible (during online application they ask do you want max or specify limit? pick specify and put lowest possible figure, ie 15k for platinums)

          • @CyberMurning: Thanks for the tip. Does the limit matter if you intend to churn?

            • @xsacha: well if you pick max and bank gave you $50k for example, that will show up on your credit rating and other banks will see as you have liability of $50k already, doesnt matter if you never spend over $1k in a month.

the credit is there for you so banks will take it as you will use it to the max.

              • @CyberMurning: @ChiMot even though I didn't get the max, I now have a $100k credit enquiry because I selected max. That has pushed my credit down to 'very good'.
I'll remember to set it manually next time, thanks.

                • @xsacha: 100k thats crazy. long time ago i had combine credit limits (from 5 cc or more) for more than $180k but i have closed down/reduced them. yeah never select max unless you really want/need.

                  • @CyberMurning: also with St George you can even lower it down once you have the card, I put mine down to $6k

  • +2

Run around, provided all the information required, been banking with them for 15 years. $150k savings. Declined for no reason. Maybe time to move on.

    • job? salary? age?

      • Full time, 150k+, 44. I do have the ozbargain default cc 28degrees and signature of course, but not having massive limits on either. I think I'd deserve a reason for declining. And I do have 3 kids…

        • +1

          You weren't even conditionally approved?

I have MUCH weaker application than you and got conditionally approved

    • +1

Saving is nothing for them as one day it can be gone in a second if you decide to spend it all.

      • correct!!! many people angry of this, they have paid off house, millions in cash. but no stable jobs. of course bank will say no.

        • Yeah, I think I'm a bit annoyed and could understand perfectly if there was a given criteria which I did not meet. Spoke to the lady on the phone and she did not see an issue for declining. Oh well.

          • @cdundee: Maybe your credit rating is low or have been applying and cancelling too many promotional credit cards?

            • @[Deactivated]: Can't see a reason why it'd be low, I did get worried and I ordered the free online check which did not show anything which I didn't disclose. And this was the first time I jumped for a cc with promo ever.
