                • @asterix: Yep, email received on 14/03. Last I checked neither the order status or ETA had changed, they just cancelled without warning.

                  • @Gnostikos: Mine still processing order. I hope I got lucky with this one and they are going to honour it. Or let me know now so I can get one off ebay. No cash rewards though atm 😩

                    • @asterix: Well I hope so too, you bought all the paraphernalia to go along with it.

Thankfully I didn't invest in 40TB of storage just yet. At the rate this is going, I'll have found a good deal on hard drives before I find a decent price on the DS918+.

                      • @Gnostikos: Haha yup! I’m checking my order a few times in a day. It no longer says delivery between 20/3-23/4. It just says Expected 23/4 with dispatch 22/4. :(

                      • @Gnostikos: I paid $250 for each of my drives.
Shucked from external cases and placed into it.

  • Why do people prefer this over the Qnap TS-453BE-4G which is cheaper? The QNAP also has a PCI slot for 10gbit upgrade if wanted and also HDMI outputs?

  • Has anyone received this. My order is still pending.

    Mine has cancelled today.

I have lodged a complaint that this breaches the ACL [new TPA] as bait advertising. If they do not have stock then they can't advertise it for sale.

As it is available now from Amazon on their US site from Amazon themselves and ready to ship to Australia they cannot pretend that stock is not available to them, but merely they have made a commercial decision to not supply.

If I do not hear from them by mid next week I will go to NSW fair trading.
If you got screwed like this I would like to add your order numbers to mine if they were cancelled.

    Cheers.
    Kev

    • Very good point, if stock miraculously appears well within the original predicted delivery time frame, why isn't it allocated it to orders placed over a month ago on a first in, first out basis?

Happy to give you my order number as well, I'll PM you the details.

Keep us updated if you manage to get anywhere with Amazon.

Edit: Seems you have private messaging disabled in your account settings.

      • I ended up purchasing from Computer Alliance.
Think I ordered it Monday, received yesterday.
It's still formatting the discs….!!! I only have 2 installed, still waiting for another 2 drives to turn up from B&H Photo.
Memory also showed up today, but that's still sitting in the static bag

        • How much did you get it for?

          • @Gnostikos: $647.10 in the end after discounts

            • @azazal: May be not much to gain by waiting for Amazon to deliver. It is about $50 more from others which will definitely be delivered.

              • @hawamahal: My Amazon order had already been canceled by that point.

My biggest problem right now is getting some of my data off wd my live book duo. Little wonder it had problems toward the end… the data transfer speed is horrendous!

                • +1

@azazal: As a side note, in case anyone else comes across this in future.

Although transfer speeds were horrendous, i found that it's possible to hack a feature into my book live duo.

SSH into your MBL using PuTTY or Terminal

                  Edit vsftpd.conf

                  nano /etc/vsftpd.conf

At the bottom of the file add

                  port_promiscuous=YES

                  Hit control and o

                  Hit enter

                  Hit control and x

This will save and overwrite the old file and exit nano

Go to your synology FTP options and enable the checkbox for 'enable FXP' under ftp options.

Use a program like flashxp to connect to both servers and transfer across

Although the speeds are still not the fastest they could be this increased by transfer speed from a max of around 5Mbps to 50Mbps, which obviously makes a huge difference when copying a full drive

      • PM Enabled.

        Never thought to check.

  • Hi can I ask for those of you who got their orders cancelled, when did you guys order? Mine was 20/2 around 8pm. I just checked my order is still pending delivery but I’m not having my hopes up.

    • I can't believe it Amazon just updated my order and it now says despatching 28/3 and arriving on Monday!!! It was still showing delivery by 24/4 this morning. So sorry to hear others having their orders cancelled. I have Amazon Prime not sure that made a difference?

    Hey,

Further to my earlier post I have added a forum post:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/446638

Amazon may be breaching ACL and I want to test this by formally complaining.

If anyone has a cancelled order number please PM me as I want to show the size of Amazon's malfeasance in my complaint to Fair Trading.

    Cheers
    K
