Gee 2 great prices on 2 great cameras. What a tough choice. Here is what I figured out from watching heaps of videos and reviews on these 2:

    Mijia:
Heavier by about 40grams (issue for some flyers)
Metal body (better? More solid construction)
Optional waterproof case to be purchased separately
Lower frame rates on some resolutions
Less saturated colours in stock setup
Slightly bigger capacity battery. (1450 vs 1200)
    8MP sensor (12 on other)
145 Deg lens (170 on other)
Max 64GB card (128 on other)
Stated runtime 2 hours (1.5 on other)
Bigger screen 2.4 inch (2 on other)
Less bright screen (harder to see out doors)

    Hawkeye:
    Lighter
    Includes waterproof case
    Includes additional external microphone
    Loads of mounting accessories.
    More frame rate options
    More saturated colours.
    12MP Sensor
    170 deg lens
    Max 128GB card
    Remote control optional
    Small screen 2 inch
Brighter screen. Easier to see outside.
    Stated run time 1.5 hours

    BOTH:
Have image stabilization and both seem to do a good job of that.
    Native 4K
    7 element lenses
    Touchscreen
    Wifi / BT
Time lapse / slow mo etc
Both have barrel correction (fixes fish eye lens warping) on board.

In summary, I tend to lean towards the Hawkeye for water proof case / accessories and better slow motion from faster frame rate and higher resolution sensor for photos. However the Mijia is metal, runs longer, bigger display and do I really need to get it wet anyway?. Ahhhh my head hurts!

    • I've been looking for a while and can never make my mind up. These seem like a good deal but i think i prefer the 4k+. or the sony x3000 but more expensive.

      • Ah yes the Sony one is nice - brilliant stabilization however outside my budget (more than twice the price) and needs. What are you intending to use it for? I'm doing a 45 day hike across France and Spain with my son. I need something to compliment my phone and a Panasonic V770 dedicated video camera. Something my son can put in water and also fit easily in his waist strap pocket on his backpack. I’m even considering leaving the V770 home as it is 395 grams plus 25grams for the charger cable. Also the optics in those is notoriously fragile. My AF has already been replaced under warranty. A friend’s V770 AF went just outside warranty. So potentially I might be filming all phone and action cam.

  • I noticed the Mijia runs for 3 hours in 1080 / 60 mode. Also the lens does not protrude as it does on the Hawkeye.

Hey OP any chance the coupon could work on the 'with case' option. Happy to pay the AU$5.79 extra.

How are these compared to Yi 4k plus and GoPro 6 black?

I'm in the market for an action camera and had my eyes set on yi 4k plus but can get a second hand 6 black for under $350.

Really trying to compare which is the best in terms of photography and recording etc.

    • There are plenty of clips on youtube. In short, fairly close but these are WAAAAY cheaper. If you want "the best" go for the top of the line gopro and a gimbal but your are going to pay a lot for that extra performance. Do you technically need that performance level? Does your ego that need the best? It's okay if it does. For me saving $400-600 on not getting something better is fine. I will film mostly in stabilised, barrel warping corrected, 1080/60 mode and put it in the waterproof case maybe 5% of the time if I'm lucky. It will fill the gap where I don't want to use my phone or bigger dedicated video camera in wet, dusty, dirty, or cramped locations.

  • Is the mount on the Mijia waterproof case the same as Go Pro. I lost my Go Pro Hero 5 Black skiing in Japan recently so have all these spare accessories - will they work on this camera.

    • I'm pretty sure they will be different, the mijia is a different shape.

  • Hi Op,
Any chance for a bundle like this with the camera?

  • Anyone else get an email saying that it won't ship until next week? I'd bought it on the 22nd but only got a notification today saying that a ticket to follow up on its status had been raised on my behalf.

Here I was thinking I gave it enough lead time to ship for me to bring on my trip the second week of April 😟

While I appreciate Geekbuying's proactive action, I'm a bit disappointed that this has happened. But I'm hopeful that it arrives in time for my trip.
