this Boost deal, is a very good deal.

i just think Telstra are trying to lock in all these customers,
onto their 4G network, while they release 5G plans within 6+ months.

this is just a guess, because when new 5G phones/plans come out,
there'll be new customers looking to re-contract, and they will probably choose the 5G phones
and then when these Boost 12-month plans expire in March 2020, they will be ready to re-sign
    on 5G Boost or Telstra.

    • +2

It's Telstra responding to Optus' Epic Value 180 plan. Telstra still want the profit so they don't want to match it themselves. Belong's system is too lousy. So Boost get to do the work and attempt to get the customers. Otherwise, people will churn to Optus.

  • +7

Did telstra just updated their prepaid plan as well?
It was crazily expensive before.. now still is expensive, but much better..

$300 150gb for 12 months and 20 countries unlimited calls
Works out to be $25 per month for 12.5gb
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

  • are the international calls per month?

    • Unlimited international calls and texts for 12 months.

      • was asking for the other group of countries 1200 mins per month?

        • On average $100 per month (for calls and texts to countries not included in the unlimited international). You can derive this from looking at other plans.

However, it is actually $1200 for the duration of the contract so if you really want to, you can use $1200 all up in a month.

          • @netsurfer: says 1200 standard minutes…so 100 mins per month?

            • @Aemit: Yes that's how I interpreted it.

            • +1

@Aemit: I thought it means 1200 standard minutes(international) to use within 12 months and not 100 mins per month?

              • @ATTS: Sorry… yes I agree with Triton. On average 100 minutes a month but you can use all 1200 minutes the first day if you wanted.

  • So how does the voucher works? Is it a recharge voucher which then can be used even on existing Boost number?

For example if I am porting from another provider, can I port it with $2 SIM and make sure it ported successfully before I apply the voucher? Thanks.

    • Yes. Buy sim, install boost app and recharge 150 dollars. Done

  • Does anyone know the Ip address you get assigned and if it is a Public IP? If not, which provider gives you a public ip so that I can reach it remotely?

  • To the guys who might still in another plan and want to purchase this plan later.

According to the reply from their customer service, the expiry date for these prepaid plans till up to 29th Oct 2019, so I suppose you can have that anytime before the expiry date.

Great deal, but give 80GB to kids and they're just going to burn right through it.

Can anyone recommend a similar plan with data monthly, rather than yearly?

    • They have 28 days 65 GB monthly.

    • Boost is $12.50 for 6.66GB per month, Kogan currently offers 3GB for $12.66.
It seems like Boost is better value, until you have to buy another pack when the data runs out.

      • Why is it worse value when the data runs out?

        • +1

I think what they are saying is you get access to the full 80GB from day dot of signing onto this plan and you could basically use up all your data on the first day. As opposed to other providers that give you a smaller set amount per month to ensure you dont use it in one go.

        • +1

The credit expires after 12 months or 80GB, whichever is sooner. If you burn through the whole 80GB, you pay another $150 each time.
With Kogan you get half as much data per month, but you won't pay any more than $152 per year.

So it comes down to how much control you have over your data usage.

          • @zzymurgy: Or you could still ultilise the unlimited calls locals and international and not using mobile data for the remaining time of the plan :)

    • Do their phones have a data restriction? Some handsets can turn off data once they reach the set threshold after a month. Not sure how accurately it counts the data though

      • Good idea, but not sure it works in reality. There is always a way to get around them.

  • Currently with Aldi mobile.

How do I change to Boost? Since Aldi is with Telstra, do I need to request they post out a blank sim first?

    • +1

I just bought a $2 Boost sim from Coles and ported over from Aldi within about two minutes. No dramas at all.

    • Just buy a Telstra sim and port over.

  • Can anyone confirm definitely no visual voicemail on iPhone?

  • Would Boost customer be eligible for Telstra Thanks perk?

  • since current plan is not expired, probably better to wait and see, there can be much more competitive plans will be in the market soon… from aldi, kogan, ….

  • How does international roaming work? If I’m heading overseas, I buy the $5 add on and that gives me 500MB. So if I want 2GB, do I buy the $5 add on, four times? Can you do that? Or do you have to wait for the add on to run out first?

    • You can do that, and the data will stack but expiry date won't.

    • +1

I just had a chat with agent and she said new addons coming on site by evening….
I am heading overseas soon and she said do 2 addons - 1 for $5 to enable roaming and then another $15 for international calling rates and you get your plan data plus free incoming calls and outgoing calls(if that country is on free to dial list in Australia)….so $20 you are sorted for a month….I am just waiting for website to update and see the addons for myself…its too good to be true….
Here is the link - https://boost.com.au/blog/2017/10/30/add-ons/.....scroll down and click on rates…At the moment it is not working as they are updating the site apparently….

      • Given that it is prepaid, you will either be able to use it or not (I don't think Boost can charge your credit card automatically). However, on whirlpool, people reported the $5 roaming pack gets you 500MB data while overseas. Are you sure about the ability to use your data from your plan and the unlimited calls from your plan while overseas? Seems too good to be true.

    • I just spoke with a customer rep and there are no data provisions whatsoever on international roaming. The $5 credit is for calls and text only whilst overseas. So you would have to stick to local wifi or an international sim if you wanted data overseas… :(

      • +1

Dual-SIM phones are pretty much essential if you travel. Local SIMs are generally easy to come by in a lot of countries, and would be far more cost-effective anyway for data.

  • If you don’t need international calls is the Optus one everyone is talking about the better option?

$180 on Optus page is this this correct?
    Does that have free streaming?

    • +2

Assuming you get the Optus one for $120, this Boost plan is simply $2.5 more per month, but you get 1.67 GB extra per month (on average), unlimited international calls and texts to selected country, $1200 worth of calls and texts to countries not in the free list. For me, Telstra network coverage is much better for me (at work, as soon as I reached the area with lifts, Optus and Voda has zero coverage; on the train, Optus data is a pain to use).

Unless Optus' coverage is great for you, you are better off with this one (I wish I did not go for the Epic 180, much prefer to have this one). Optus Epic Value plan does NOT have streaming bonus on those 3 sites (only Epic Data has that).

      • Thank you.
The only other worry I would have is using up the 240gb in the 365 days.
Do you know if this has data packages to add on

      • I’ve never had a plan that wasn’t Spotify data free. Worried that I’ll eat it up with Spotify.

  • +1

Spoke to customer service as well and was told it's an on going offer

    • +1

One of the OZBers already commented that the CSR indicated the current tentative plan expiry date is: 29th Oct 2019.

      • Wonderful, our BOGOF from Kogan last year about to expire in May, this will be the best deal for two of us to switch over, only disadvantage is losing 13gb/mth data down to only 6.6666gb/mth. Unless Kogan is having special recharge for existing customers, otherwise I will be jumping over to this.

        • I am in the same boat but I have been using less than 6gb a month consistently roughly so this is a ripper of a deal especially with the unlimited international extras compared to Kogan.

Still got two months to see what else comes out between now and my recharge date.

Honestly just want one that can do multiple years and not have to bother with it yearly.. I honestly would maybe pay extra for that.. I think there was one mobile carrier that does that but I forgot which one now.

          • @AlienC: Exactly, all these providers should do some 5 or even 10 years super deals for those like me who hate to worry about recharging every now and then.

  • So much data to download, server will prob be congested and slow.

  • thx, was about to churn to Belong's $10/month plan, but this looks like a much better deal.

  • -2

Thank god that Apple Watch isn’t supported by Boost so I don’t feel bad. 350GB used this month here. But it’s an awesome deal for an Android user for sure.

    • So I shouldn't use it on my iPhone? I have family members with iPhone XS Max so they shouldn't get this either? How about Apple iPad Pro's?

      • sorry, why cant be used for Iphone?

        • +3

I felt that he was showing off with Apple Watch. Frankly, as an Apple user, I don't see the big deal about it. It was more about this comment:

But it’s an awesome deal for an Android user for sure.

The truth is, it is an awesome deal for Apple users too. RRP for Apple Watch is only $599. That's not even enough to cover the cost of my car rego for a year.

      • Visual Voicemail doesn’t work on Boost and neither does VoLTE (I tried finding out 100% but found only posts from a few months back confirming no still). I’m not sure if wifi calling also doesn’t work either.

        • +1

VoLTE and wifi calling works on Boost.

          • @0FoxGiven: I’m legitimately glad to hear that. Not much issue then.

    • +4

serious question - how does an Apple Watch generate 350gb of usage per month?

I can't even do half of that on my PC downloading bit torrent all day long………..

      • I didn't get that either. Averaging more than 10GB a day?

    • Whats the best deal for Apple Watch cellular? Telstra wants me to pay $49+5/month post paid… more than 4x the cost of this deal without Apple Watch support :(

  • I assume "full Telstra coverage" means it would work on all Telstra-covered mine sites?

  • Anyone know how to roam on prepaid plans such as this? I've been on postpaid since I've been out of uni I no longer know how it works.

    • Roaming is active by default, but you need additional credit on the account in addition to the recharge plan allowance.

  • +1

Can you port numbers from other carriers? I added the $2 sim to cart but then it says complete payment for only $2 so how/when do I pay the $150 and how can I port my existing number across? Never done this before, so thanks for any help.

    • +1

When you get the sim you activate it, at that time you get the option to bring your own number, also then to opt for a plan.

  • One of the best value for money deals I have seen.

  • +1

    FREE 2$ sim-
Being a Telstra customer, i have to call 1258881for porting my existing number and they posted me a free blank sim card.

    • How long it took to arrive?

      • +1

It gonna be a standard shipping. 3-5 days

      • +1

Just got an email claiming that the sim will be delivered overnight by speedpost

        • Did they ask for your email when ordering? I only gave the address and they said that it will arrive in 2 days

          • +2

@bazingaa: No i didn't, but i gave them my contact number. Don't know how they got my Email.

  • Sorry if it's already been asked, don't have time to scroll right now.

Will this work on a prepaid phone locked to Telstra since Boost run under them?

    TIA

    • Unsure. Used to. But now some phones are locked to the carrier itself, and even someone who resells the same service their SIM is locked out. Don't buy it on the assumption that it will. You probably should call and find out.

      • Cheers for the response, dude. I'll have to give them a ring tomorrow maybe.

  • I'm stuck with optus until may. Hopefully this will still be around then

    • With Kogan until April.. the options popping up seem to be getting better as each day goes by so I have my fingers crossed something major pops up.

      • Yeh, a real buyers market. I feel this will hurt optus bad, as telstras biggest barrier has always been price. A deal this cheap is a huge windfall for consumers.

  • +1

Are the international calls 100% free? As much as you want? This is madness.

  • how long is this taking to activate for you guys…for a new number, not porting

  • -4

Anyone interested in a Kogan 365 med plan that has to be activated by 28/02/19? Rather do this deal as have family overseas. $150.

    • No idea why u got negged.
Prob need to post it at classified and sell it off cheap to get it off ur hands so u can land on this deal.

I can buy it off you for $50 🤪

    • ill buy it

  • I am currently with Kogan $152 for 12 months and waiting for international call included deal, but they never will. So this one might good deal for my requirements. Bought one and thanks OP.

  • +2

I’m currently using Boost and very happy with Telstra coverage. Have reception even in basements and lifts. Couldn’t resist the $120 Optus deal so I bought it last week. This post just stabbed me in the heart. It’s the best 365 day mobile deal I’ve seen

  • Damn… Kogan 1yr plan was expiring so just bought the Optus $120 deal online but haven't activated yet.

Wonder if they've got a cooling off period or if it's refundable? :(

  • has anyone found data add on packages?

  • How is it calculated after 12 months?

  • how long till the other companies do this now? 2 weeks - a month?
i dont know if i can be faqed changing over if amaysim will just do this in a few weeks.

  • +1

International standard call doesn't include calling to overseas mobile number I reckon?

    • hmmm good point. anyone else know?

      • Reason being because all my overseas relative are now using mobile phones, no more landline.

        • +3

CIS doesn't differentiate the two, neither does it on https://boost.com.au/international/ so I would assume it means doesn't matter as long as it's not a satellite or premium number.

      • Live chat support says overseas mobile supported

        • Yup, it works for calling overseas mobile too. I tried it myself. Thanks.

    • I can confirm mobile calls are covered to Norway.
At least to 1 country, and as per kururii, it should be covered for all.

  • +5

https://boost.com.au/shop/100-prepaid/ seems worth it to renew every 6 months - 120gb $200 - 10GB per month much more value than amaysim - good solution to finding a middle-ground on the 12 month deals

  • +1

If I can buy it and not activate for 2 more months (my contract ends), I'd be all over this.

    Now it's a bit risky.

I don't want to miss out, but if I buy it now, I will lose 2 months.

    • +1

Read the posts, it's ongoing don't stress

      • I ended up taking on the Woolworths S10 deal, so I'm contracted for 2 years. But this would be a good deal with a BYO phone.
