Uh, the kings of the overpriced items on ebay that become competitive only with a 20% sale..

    • +7

You just described 95% of Ebay.

      • +2

Says the person who up voted…

        • +4

Of course, i found and shared 2 Futu bargains last week.

  • +22

$169 for a Samsung EVO Plus 500GB is an “everyday price” at MSY and PCCG.
FUTU price is $210 which comes down to $168 after the 20% discount. Sad really.

    • +8

This. I refuse to encourage it by buying from them now.

And people lose their minds as they are $1 cheaper… That's not a deal.

      • +1

And people lose their minds as they are $1 cheaper… That's not a deal.

        No they don't.

        • Haven't seen some of their 'deals' posted here and the number of up-votes they receive? 33 already for this says enough…

    • Have to remember that futu price includes postage and if you just wanted 1-2 SSDs paying the everyday price to have it dropped at your door is pretty convenient

  • +2

I'll wait for the 1% off 20 stores promo.

    • +4

Futu 20% is pretty much a 1% off most :)

      • +1

often it is LESS than 1%. e.g. the EVO PLus 500GB mentioned by Coops1 is about 0.5%. I refuse to give these guys my business while they use such scummy overpricing/discount tactics

        • +1

Anyone notice cashback sites offer nothing for eBay for a good while now? When will it return?

  • I do wonder if they have a special macro that when a 20% deal comes along they press and it just jacks everything by 20%.

    • +6

No, they literally don't bother decreasing their price between sales.

  • +4

maybe these deals shouldnt get posted anymore, since they just price jack, ive talked to ebay and they want us to prove… they dont want to go through the prices ect… sick of these fake 20% off codes

    • +3

Like eBay will care anyway…. think of how much revenue they make off them….

      • Correct. Ebay is a business - the only thing they care about is profit, and any possible way of increasing that. Ebay plus for example - ultimately this is more profitable to ebay, or they wouldn't try to push it.

  • There are some (negative) comments about discounts being applied upon inflated prices. I think it's fine to call this out.

What's important to note too, is that many items on Futu Online have free shipping.

    For example:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AMD-Ryzen-3-5-7-2200G-2400G-2600…

After applying the 20% discount, a 2400g comes to $232.

    Compare it with other vendors:
    https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/FGPKHx/amd-ryzen-5-2400g…

The "cheapest" listed currently is $224, but after adding shipping, it's ~$234.

I have never bought from Futu Online, so I can't comment on their return policy, shipping times, etc.

On price alone, it still might be worth buying from them. (i.e. It's not fair to compare their prices with shops like MSY, where you'll probably have to pay for shipping).

    • But it's encouraging a higher price and (I'd presume) they take a small hit of that 20% and eBay the rest.

So why support someone that's making more from it? For very negligible amounts too…

      • I personally have no visibility about how these things work in ebay or the Futu Online store, so I do not feel comfortable discussing that aspect of it and my opinion would be speculative.

Many consumers come to OzBargain to get the best deal. I'm highlighting this aspect only. You're always empowered to "use your wallet to vote" and support companies/shops that align with your principles.

        • +1

It's been proven on here in comments by those who have been approached by ebay to be part of these 'sales' that 15% is paid by the seller and 5% by ebay. That's why they pricejack. Speculation not required.

          • +1

@justtoreply: It would be great if you could link to the "proof". I'm not denying it, but a statement of claiming there is proof is not proof itself.

      • So I am fairly certain that the 20% is reimbursed by eBay - they take the hit.
So by pricejacking (or, having prices permanantly higher), Futu are getting all the profit, and eBay is just taking the hit, which makes me think they would WANT to stop it from happening so that they wouldn't lose as much money.

        • +1

Big eBay stores probably pay significant fees too…. they don't get away with fee free listings I believe, So everyone's in it.

Anyone have this monitor? can't seem to find any review on it.

  • +11

Why is everyone still upvote this price jack shit?

    • +1

Free shipping on items makes it competitive for some.

If anyone is looking to buy a RTX 2060 card it's cheaper over at UMart
    https://www.umart.com.au/Galax-GeForce-RTX-2060-6G-1-Click-O…

    • You can get the Dual Fan Gigabyte 2060 from Futu for $535 delivered. Comes with a back plate and higher factory overclock than the Galax Card.

      • +1

Thanks bro. Definitely worth the slight price premium but I need a DVI port for my monitor. I ordered the Galax from UMart

  • +4

Ebay needs to be taken to ACCC for deceptive sales

8tb Ironwolf $300 delivered, good price.

    • 4TB $150.40 delivered, cheaper than staticice

  • Have my eye on about 6 different items as have been asked to spec up a media room for the in-laws. Nearly all items are cheaper elsewhere.

  • +1

Soon Amazon will be taking over the dominance of feebay

  • +10

Everything is so expensive to begin with, this isn't a "sale", it's a "we match other stores RRP" event, therefore NOT a bargain.

  • Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe3.0 X4 Internal Solid State Drive SSD

This is currently cheaper than others I have found through searches online and on eBay. Includes Free Postage.

It would be a very good upgrade from my 850 Evo 500gb :) but for $312 :?

  • +1

I don’t like the price jacking but in saying that there are some gems to be found. You could save anywhere between $10 to $50 on some items.

For example the Asus VG258QR monitor in which i am going to get is $399. After 20% off and free shipping it’ll be $319. Thats almost $60 cheaper than anywhere else i could find.

    • +1

Yep this is true. I bought a monitor from them a year ago. I knew they jacked prices but it was still the best price available. Not 20% off but ok.

  • +1

Not everything is a rip-off. For example I wait for 20% off futu anytime I need to buy more office retail licenses.

  • +2

    Kingston 240GB SSD: "Was $149".
Yeah sure. Ten years ago maybe

No deal if no Computer Alliance.

  • +1

Spotted this. Overpriced at $439, Asus 4G-AC68U AC1900 1900Mbps Dual Band Wireless Gigabit ADSL Modem Router LTE. But becomes $351.20 on checkout which is $25 cheaper than anywhere else that I can find it.

Mate nobody gives a shit about eBay bargains. These threads are only created to post shit prices. Didn’t you get the memo?

      • Did you crawl out of the wrong side of bed mate. I was simply highlighting something that I noticed. Take your keyboard warrior fingers out of your nose.

        • +1

Lol I’ll use sarcasm tags next time

          • +1

@JelIyfish: Ha ah mate I’ve had a shit day and didn’t even realise. All good!
