Huawei P30 $199 | P30 Pro $699 Upfront (Bonus Sonos One Smart Speaker) with Telstra $65 Sim Only Plan 24M Contract @ JB Hi-Fi

780

Bonus Sonos One Smartspeaker available via redemption which has been on sale recently for $250+.

Phones are Dual Sim variants - Confirmed on JB Hi-Fi's website

In store only. You would be able to claim TRS with the Invoice as well

Screenshot of the offer

Plan inclusions: Unlimited National talk and text + 80 GB data (Initial offer was 60GB which has since been updated to 80GB)

P30 seems to be a really good price for the value considering the $199 upfront cost can be negated with the Sonos One Smartspeaker!

  • P30 RRP $1099

  • P30 Pro RRP $1599

Comparison… keeping in mind, these phones just got announced today.

P30 : $65 x 24 months = $1560 + $199 (Handset upfront fees) = $1759 - $230 (Generous Sonos One
value) = $1529 over 24 months = $63.70 with 80GB data and unlimited calls on Telstra network.

Optus charge $95 for their S10 with 50GB of data (plus unlimited international calls to 35 countries)

P30 Pro : $65 x 24 months = $1560 + $699 (Handset upfront fees) = $2259 - $230 = $2029 over 24 months = $84.50 with with 80GB data and unlimited calls on Telstra network.

Optus charge $105 for their S10+ with 50GB of data (plus unlimited international calls to 35 countries)

Claiming TRS will make the overall cost still cheaper.

And Optus are yet to announce their prices for the Huawei phones.

Its 24 month contract not 12

Was in the process of updating the title :)

        Didn't negg u. Just commented

        • -8

Me neither, but OP sounded like a (profanity).

      • OP, please change your comparison in the description to 80gb data for each plan, rather than 60gb (defeats the purpose of a comparison to have incorrect info)

        • +1

Thanks mate. If you look at my screenshot, initial offer was for 60GB and now they have updated it to 80GB!

          I have modified the post.

  • +8

Arghh….I first read $699 outright and thought what an amazing price!

  • +2

According to Gizmodo Pricing Optus will be selling the Dual SIM version of this phone.

    • +1

JB's website states their phones are dual sim as well. (Non Telstra branded phones)

  • +10

    it's $199/$699 upfront not outright.

    • +3

      ^ this.

If you need to be on a 24 months contract to get the deal, you are not buying the phone outright.

    • +1

      Yea… definitely misleading title :(
Thought it was an amazing buy if it was outright…

      • +1

Updated the title to avoid confusion!

Also, title read "with Telstra $65 plan on 24M contract" :)

    • I thought it was $199 and slip in a kogan sim :) Never scored a pricing error…

  • +1

According to the banner you also need to switch your number to telstra.

  • +3

So let me get this straight, you pay $699 upfront and then switch to the $65 plan essentially making your plan $94 p/month. Is that what they're asking for?

    • +14

Yes, it's for people that can't do maths and think it's a good deal.

      • +5

Here is a comparison… keeping in mind, these phones just got announced today

        P30 : $65 x 24 months = $1560 + $199 (Handset upfront fees) = $1759 - $230 (Generous Sonos One
value) = $1529 over 24 months = $63.70 with 60GB data and unlimited calls on Telstra network.

Optus charge $95 for their S10 with 50GB of data (plus unlimited international calls to 35 countries)

        P30 Pro : $65 x 24 months = $1560 + $699 (Handset upfront fees) = $2259 - $230 = $2029 over 24 months = $84.50 with with 60GB data and unlimited calls on Telstra network.

Optus charge $105 for their S10+ with 50GB of data (plus unlimited international calls to 35 countries)

Even a HN 10% discount doesnt bring the prices closer.

I have already highlighted that the P30 is good value for this price!

        • +2

          Thanks for posting the deal.

Huawei's phones on Optus network is usually cheaper though.

When Mate 20 / Mate 20 Pro was launched, you only need to pay $85/month for 50GB of data. RRP of Mate 20 Pro was $1,599.

For people who don't mind Optus, it might be worth waiting for Optus' plan.

          • +2

@BargainHunterMYz: I agree. Keen to hear what Optus are gonna charge.

For anyone who want the Telstra network, this is a no brainer as it stands today and these phones are dual sim variants as well

          • +2

@BargainHunterMYz: Optus have announced their plans here …. Not on their website yet!

$95 for 50GB data for the P30 Pro.

            $85 for 50GB data for the P30.

But you can get 10% port in discount via HN.

        • +4

Not many people mention this, but it's often really good value to trade in an old phone to samsung for the S10, then go on a cheap 12 month sim only deal. Example, I can get $280 for my S8, brings the S10+ down to 1200, which over 24 months is $50 per month, then jump on the optus 12 month sim only plan for $41.30, you are spending <$91 a month over 2 years without taking into account TRS which you can claim on the phone which can bring it down to $75ish a month over 2 years. Also consider S10 pre orders came with galaxy buds worth $250.

At these prices it is sometimes better to buy the phone outright and go on sim only plans.

          • +1

            @onlinepred: Of course…. thinking like a true Ozbargainer :)

You can still claim TRS on these phones too. From past posts, I have read that the Tax invoice shows the original value with GST!

So the prices I have highlighted will go down further.

            • @aspirepranesh: Yes true but it will be on the reduced value so not as big as of savings. You would be looking at maybe $6.25 a month in reduction, so around $78 a month, while S10+ pre order value would have been closer to $65 if you sold the headphones for $75 keeping headphones.

              • +2

                @onlinepred: Going off your calculations:

                S10+ : $1200/24 months = $50 per month + $41.30 Plan = $91.30

                TRS = $150 /24 = $6.25 discount

Making the plan $85/Month for the S10+ without considering value of the galaxy buds.

                P30 Pro : $65 x 24 months = $1560 + $699 (Handset upfront fees) = $2259 - $150 (TRS) = $87.8.Month without considering the value of Sonos One!

You're paying $3 more per month for the P30 Pro. Also, Sonos One value is higher than Galaxy Buds, we can agree :)

Correct me if I am wrong

                • +1

@aspirepranesh: Yep spot on, the only benefits between each is the 12 month optus sim only plan is only 12 months which leaves you open to better deals in the future, the telstra plan has 10gb more data (50gb vs 60gb), that's about it really. Can't go wrong either way.

                  • +1

                    @onlinepred: Telstra plan has 30GB more. It's 80GB not 60GB.

                    • +1

@cushydeskjob: That was my mistake mate! when I posted initially, I had typed it in as 60GB instead of 80GB.

I have since updated the post.

                • @aspirepranesh: He also traded his S8 for $280 to bring the price down to $1200

                  IMHO, Huawei deal is better

        • Do you think that JB Hifi will continue this deal with other phones over the rest of the year?

I don't particularly want the P30… and don't particularly need a new phone at the moment but I am interested in a new phone plan, and it would be a pretty good deal if I were to sell the phone and the Sonos One speaker, and then I can just put the $1100 towards whatever phone I buy next.

I haven't seen JB Hifi do a deal this good since the Black Friday deals last year where they were selling the Samsung S9+ and the Google Pixel 3 for $300 when you port across and sign up for the $65 plan.

It's very hard to predict what will be ahead for the year.. trying to decide whether I should go for this deal for the sheer good value, or wait until later in the year.

Going off the deals they've done so far… it's possible they may do a similar deal when Samsung releases the new Note 10 later in the year… they may have some promotion on the S10 and S10+ over Black Friday and at the start of next year before Samsung releases it's next Galaxy S phone.

    • take into account atleast $240 value for the Sonos One, which is about a $10 discount. making it roughly $84 per month.

  • is this dual sim or single sim?

    • +1

Jb HiFi and hardly normal havd dual sim version. Only single sim is sold by Telstra and Vodafone. Optus has dual sim as well.

  • +2

Wouldn't it be better to just purchase the P30 outright for $1099? than going on telstra plan?

    • This be ONLY a deal only if all the following conditions are satisfied,

      • want P30 right now
      • want a Sonos One Smart Speaker for RRP
      • need 50GB of data per month
        • and really need to be on Telstra 24 months plan :)
  • I can't understand why the P30 Pro is $900 off with this $500 credit?

    • I had the exact same thought. They arent giving a $500 credit as they normally do with their 12M sim only plan, more of a $900 credit for the P30 pro (maybe coz its a 24M contract), which is great!

      • Yeah I'm thinking that too, seems very good on face value. Haven't really looked at the phone before, but seems a good deal.

        • +1

Phones just got announced in France about 10 hours ago! I have gone through about 10 reviews so far and they are impressive!

          • +1

@aspirepranesh: Yep the only questionable thing is the lack of earpiece, some say that it's quite bad in loud environments.

  • RRP of the Sonos One is 299. RRP of the Sonos Play 1 is 229.

    • +2

People don't like mentioning RRP here around OZB :)

Hence I listed the most recent sale price for Sonos One and how much you can potentially get for it by offloading it on Ebay/FB

      • Ah ok, gotcha!

P30 is a very impressive phone and that $1,099 RRP will hold for about 30 seconds until it drops to closer to $700.

Looks like a good competitor to the S10e but shame it doesn't have wireless charging and uses proprietary memory cards (I thought we all learned not to do that after Sony's repeated attempts to force Memory Sticks, and later PSVita memory cards on everyone?)

    • +2

Mate 20 is still selling for around $900/P20 Pro is still holding value over $700.

Good luck expecting P30 to drop to $700 in 30 seconds or 2 months.

Maybe on Gumtree you can lowball your way to $700 later this year.

But I will agree with you on the Memory card factor!

      • -6

Lol, the P30 series got released this morning. come back to me in a week about your bold assertions about these phones holding their value.

I have seen plenty of Mate 20 Pros up for sale on Gumtree for $800 and it uses the same CPU as the P30 and P30 Pro. What does the P30 and P30 Pro really offer over the Mate 20 Pro?

        • -2

Not much which is why you're getting a "free" Sonos 1.

        • +8

          LOL.

          • Quad/Triple Cameras
          • 5x Optical zoom
          • better low light sensors,
          • better battery life due to the screen,
          • better 32mp front camera
          • bonus Sonos One warrants the price atleast in relation to this deal!
      • +1

Where do you see mate 20 going for 900? I see you mentioned gumtree separately so I'm assuming you saw 900 on a proper website.

        • Cheapest advertised price was $1120 for the Mate 20 Pro. He is talking about gumtree stuff to compare it with bargain site deals! 2 different things imo.

      • -4

So the P30 has already dropped to $999 with the sonos speaker and its barely been announced for a few hours: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/446963

        Keep negging me everyone! :)

        • +2

The price drop is via an ebay sale.

Going by that, the cheapest Mate 20 Pro was for $1120 months after its release! P20 pro just hit $755 only recently!

Gumtree is a different ball game. I am going to bookmark your comment and when the price drops to $700 on OZB and write you back. Lets see how long it takes :)

  • +1

Great phones, very well done Huawei, but expensive plans.

    • +1

Blame that on Apple & Samsung raising their phone prices! Huawei is following them for the same/relatively better tech!

With GST & Selling the Sonos One, it does come under $80 a month which isn't too bad!

  • Anyone know how easy/ difficult it is to claim TRS on this since it's over $900?

  • Would claiming TRS be on the value of the phone or the upfront amount you pay which is $199/$699

    • Depends on how JB is showing it on the receipt. Keen to know too

      • based on past posts, I believe its the full amount with the credits showing. Maybe someone can confirm this!

        • +1

Last December I got the P20 Pro for $0 on a $55 plan ($65 plan with $10 port-in credit). I got a receipt for the phone, showing $999, paid with gift cards. I claimed TRS without issues. But if it is above $1,000, it MUST have the name of the claimant on it.

Side note, though: Telstra's network is quite good (brilliant bandwidth, coverage similar to Optus for me), but their customer service is unbelievably bad. When overseas, I get charged a few cents per day for data roaming even though data is off. Their suggestion: turn off roaming altogether. And they are unable to disable my voicemail; each time they try, they enable "international day pass" instead. They are useless.

  • -1

Why buy p30 instead of s10? the latter is much better. Also it is not hard to get the 30% discount from friends working for those partner companies.
Huawei can't fix the green screen issue by itself and has to use Samsung OLED. I don't think Samsung would provide the same best OLED to Huawei

    • Huawei's green screens are from LG.

      • -1

Stop misleading people, period. The BOE one also got the green screen issue and even worse with much worse battery consuming. This has already been identified by many users posting on youtube.
Correct my previous post, Huawei is still using BOE oled for P30. C the green screen again.

    • -1

Correct my comment, Huawei is still using the terrible BOE oled, which has both green screen and battery performance issue.

    • Better camera?

      • -1

Depends on your taste. I prefer the real color, such as iPhone or s10. Huawei photo is more like the ps version

        • +1

I prefer facts as shown in DxO review

          • @noone: But u. don’t care the green screen and battery consuming issue by review?LOL
Also the screen finger authentication is still not working in the darkness.
Too many defects of mate 20 pro still existi in P30, another dodge phone from Huawei

            • @scratchback: Show me a review for p30 Pro that mentions those defects please

              • -5

@noone: Huawei is still using BOE for both mate 20 pro and P30.Huawei never officially claims fixing these issues, why? P30 has not been released to the market and no review for these defects yet. Because Huawei only sent non green issue for review.
You don’t have common sense, Good for you.
PS: The total score for both front and back camera, Samsung is better than Huawei, How could u miss this from DXO review?

                • @scratchback: I didn't vote you down but seems like I'm not the only one who disagrees.

Any source on P30 pro using BOE or any recent Mate 20 pro having green tint issue? All I know was Huawei Australia finally acknowledged the issue and were replacing phones.

Your statement saying Huawei sent the non green issue for review implies that they know how to make a non defective screen?

Samsung does have much better selfie camera according to DxO so I guess go with Samsung if selfie is more important to you

                  • -1

@noone: P30 pro is using BOE, which is officially confirmed by Huawei.
Replacing phones only means not all the phones have the green issue otherwise why need replacement? If you search YouTube, there’re videos in Jan/feb about the green tint issue with 2019 Huawei mate20 pro batches, which are using BOE(info from the setting).
The green issue is detectable easily by a normal user in a short time, of course Huawei could detect it much easier and quicker. But it does not mean they can fix it. A lot of disease can be diagnosed but can’t be healed, this applies to Huawei 2. Seems you have a very poor common sense and made a very ridiculous point.
I am talking about the total score of a camera from your trustable resource. No need to distort it. Samgsung has a better total score than Huawei, period.
Ps: Vote me down? I won’t be surprised about that. Huawei hires most bots in the world. How much do they pay u?

                    • +1

@scratchback: I've been asking for sources on that but all I see is your rambling.

I guess there's no credible source on your claim?

Regarding the scores, they are different facing cameras, why would you total them up? lol

                      • -1

@noone: It’s not released yet so there’s no review. It’s common sense as it’s a known issue and huawei never fixed it.
                        R u buying a phone or a camera? Lol.
                        R u a boy or gal like ps?lol
                        Chill kitty

        • p30 pro night mode blows s10 out of the water, it even gets to the level of some popular digital cameras, e.g. sony rx100. plus much better battery life.

          • -4

@angilinwago: Battery life?Huawei dares not to say that, how dare u? BOE has very serious battery consuming issue when phone is not being used.
Also s10 has better overall camera score, do u understand overall?
Also the processor I s same as mate 20 pro, which is slower than a lot of phones.

            • +1

              @scratchback: lol chill dude

            • +2

@scratchback: lol dont get personal mate its just a phone and it's not your sole purpose of life here on earth. Huawei makes good phone with nice cameras, Samsung is not bad either. Go with the one you like and you dont have to flame other brands.

              • @arctan: I am mocking up what Huawei is doing for fun. Did u c Samsung or apple diss the others?

  • Wish The p30 pro will be $55 per month for 24 month around christmas like the p20 pro.

  • +1

who's waiting for mate 20 pro to be on $55 plan with no upfront cost?

    • You should have tried talking to optus chat. They had 3 Xl and Mate 20 Pro for $59 pm and 30gb.

  • P30 RRP $1099
    P30 Pro RRP $1599

bloody hell……… maybe I haven't been keeping up, but I thought the whole reason for buying Chinese brand phones is that they are substantially cheaper than the iPhones and Samsungs, but with similar spec.

Or is Huawei consider to be on-par with the big boys now?

    • +1

Used Samsung/Iphone before, and now I'm on Huawei P20 Pro. Will never switch back again. That's the second phone I had in 20 years which I dont want to switch after 1 year - the first is Nokia 8310.

After 1 yr of use, the battery is still as new and no lag at all.

      On par? No, much better

  • You can bring this down to $55 a month as well by talking to Telstra live chat. Say you've ported in from another carrier and they will apply a $10 discount. Just did this for my partner. :)

    • Did u do this after signing up at jb?

      • Yes I did.

        • +1

How is this possible? You have signed up for $65 per month at JBHIFI for 24 months and then chat with Telstra for and advise of "XXXX offer which wasn't applied at JBHIFI"?

I went to a JBHIFI store and they brought up a list of eligible vs ineligible offers (from their intranet sharepoint site), and the $10 was showing up as ineligible in that list …

          Any advice appreciated.

          • @db2k: From my experienced with Telstra, I believe that it is possible to have discount even after you sign up if you get to talk to the right rep. I was on the $69 plan, and I can haggle to get 2 times $10 discount which brings my plan to $49 p/m. I did this after talking to 5 chat rep who all said that they can't do it because the system won't allow them to or their supervisor doesn't allow it, except the last one who was kind enough to give the discount to me.

As long as you have the right reason and you think that your offered price make sense everything is possible.

            • @yummypinacolada: Your experience is the exception/minority, and not the common case for everyone/majority …

IMO i believe it's not accurate to place a blanket claim that a cost can be $10, $20, $X lower (implied for everyone) based on an individual's experience.

Will take it all back if the next 100+ people claim it's possible based on their own experiences, to decrease the cost of a contract after signing and executing that contract. LOL.

              • @db2k: You might be right, my statement is based on my experience and some other people I know.
