  • Is the battery better than the previous models?

    • I think it has the V10's Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminium battery, so better than the other V8s. But in practice they're still only claiming 40 mins runtime (on low-power).

      • +4

Who vacuums for more than 40 minutes at a time? I’m more concerned how many charge cycles it might have.

        • +2

but only on low power. I only have v6 and other previous models. I always use the highest power and is only last less than 8 mins. I don't understand why pay premium $ to buy an item but can only use 40% of its potential?
Just like few years back, people who bought brand new iphone complaining battery run time and people jump out and suggest turn everything off except receive and dial a call.

          • +2

@JCRALLYART: I have got the V6 with fluffy head (hard floor) and i have no problems running it always on low power

          • +16

@JCRALLYART: It's not quite like that though.

I think a car is a better analogy.

Your car can go 200 km/h, but petrol runs out real fast. (it's also illegal, but analogies are rarely perfect). Also, it's very damaging to the car and its parts - you wear out the tires, brakes, etc.

If you drive it around at 60 or so, you can get a lot more use out of it. It'll also last a lot longer because it hasn't been thrashed.

With the V8, you can use the higher suction every now and then, just like you might use your higher car speeds to overtake trucks on the highway (yes, I know it's not legal to do so). But, after you're done overtaking, you slow back down. I honestly don't see why you'd want max suction all the time.

A bluetooth speaker is another good example - they can all play louder, but do you need them to be full blast all the time? Does the oven have to be on maximum temperature all the time? Do you need to use launch control on your BMW M3 all the time? Does your aircon have to lower your houses' temp to 14C in summer, just because it can?

            TL;DR

Just because something can do a thing, doesn't mean it has to do it all the time.

It would be nice if there was an in-between power mode, but honestly - I don't think it matters.

For the record, the way the LG and the Samsung stick vacuums do it is that you turn them on with a switch, and use the trigger to get your "boost" mode.

The Dyson is a "pull trigger to activate engine" which, I suppose, will save you 45 seconds of power or so in a sucking session, so there's always that.

      • +1

People use these on low power?

        • +1

          I really doubt it.
Max mode lasts 7 minutes according to the manual.
That's with a new battery. After a couple of years it'll degrade.

          • +1

@Sage: These handheld vacuums arent for you to do the entire house in one go. Theyre more a 'vacuum as necessary' product, because you can grab it off the wall and start hoovering whatever needs a clean.

            • +1

@ATangk: Yes we use the full-size Dyson Barrell vacuum to do the majority of the work/home. And rely on the stick/handheld Dyson V7 for quick small work/rooms. I always expected this is how handheld was supposed to be used, as a companion to your main vacuum.

Always use normal power mode on the handheld. Only use max power for extreme cases such as sucking fluff out of small crevices (small gaps, USB ports etc).

              • @thebadmachine: We had a central vacuum system but now we don't bother. Our V8 is the main vacuum now and as we have limited carpets throughout the house, these work rather well on hard floors.

                • +1

@ATangk: Yes I guess the cordless element is convenient. The Dyson Barrell does a very good job with extremely strong suction. We have an older Ball model which was on sale at Gerry Harvey for around $350 a few years ago. Great vacuum no issues whatsover.

        • +17

I use this (V8 Carbon Fibre) on low power!

It's more than enough to do my entire house. Get's plenty of crap out of the carpet, probably shreds it a little, too.

If you use the motorised head (which I imagine you will, because… I mean, that's the whole point, right'?) you get about 25 minutes, I think.

TBH Max mode looks a little violent, smashes through the battery and heats the entire unit up. I'm actually not sure why you'd want maximum suction, the motorised head stops on the thicker carpet rug I have when I use it with the boosted power. I honestly haven't found a use for it.

10/10 for the vacuum though, at this price it's real nice.

You end up vacuuming more because it's so easy to just pick this thing up and do spot cleaning, so your whole house is cleaner all the time.

The only complaint is that it's basically entirely plastic - feels like a toy. Who knows how long it'll last?

Thinking about how much the V10 costs, and now that the V11 has been announced - RRP $1249 for "Absolute Pro" - you'd be crazy to not get the V8 Carbon Fibre that has approx. 1 billion attachments (that you'd probably only use two of anyway).

You could spend the $600 you saved on dirt, flour and dust to throw on the floor so you can vacuum it and be really satisfied with yourself. Or, spend it on booze to forget that you spend almost $550 on a vacuum in the first instance.

2 yr Australian Warranty from Dyson really tips this deal over the edge - you can't register online, but you can ring them up and they will do it for you no problem.

I think you can buy batteries for this in future once yours dies, and failing that you can rig up something with a bunch of 18650s if you wish (probably - I've only read about other people's attempts, I haven't tried)

          • @Droz: I have hardwood floors so I need as much suction as I can get. I had an old animal version from about 5 years ago and it just wasn't great after about 6 months of regular use. I cleaned it a lot as well (in fact I can take that thing apart completely and put it back together like a gun nut) battery died about 4 years in and got a replacement and it is still underwhelming. So I want something that'll just be the best thing out to be honest. I swear they keep releasing new versions for unsatisfied customers on 100% hardwood floors!

            • @serpserpserp: Hit the max button on the top of it. Should fix you right up.

            • @serpserpserp: Are you using the fluffy?

            • @serpserpserp: Animal is designed for carpeted floors. You should be using a fluffy or else an absolute with the fluffy head.

            • @serpserpserp:

so I need as much suction as I can get.

              Don't buy a handheld vacuum

            • @serpserpserp: We bought the CF in the Jan sale and have hardwood floors throughout the house. This vacuum works great on them on low power.
We also have a Whippet that lives inside and sleeps on our lounges and the vacuum gets the dog hair up very well. If we want to do a seat or lounge real quickly we use max power.

            • +1

@serpserpserp: I thought hard flooring actually needs less suction? I mean, a broom does a pretty good job on a floor, that has zero suction…

What head did you have on the old animal version? There's a fancy soft fluffy head for hard floors now.

              • @Droz: Standard head. There wasn't a lot of attachments for mine outside of the tiny attachments to clean niche stuff. There was no separate hard floor head.

              • @Droz: From my experience with the full-size Barrell Dyson, you actually could do with less suction on carpets, as the head gets a better seal on carpet, and the Vacuum gets a good grip (then you use the trigger to slightly open a valve which reduces suction).
On floors the seal is not as tight, so the Vacuum is always doing a fine job with more suction.

It’s worth noting though the Dyson Barrell vacuum we have just has an ordinary wide head without any motor function.

            • @serpserpserp: On hard surfaces at home, I rarely use high power, always have it on standard (low) power and it works perfectly well for dust, dog hair, bits etc especially with the fluffy head!

          • +1

@Droz: I bought in the January equivalent sale. Very happy and can echo every one of the points above.
Because our kids (1&4) loved it so much, we went out and bought the kids toy version as well for $50 from Amazon too. Our house has never been so clean.

          • @Droz: Better plastic and lightweight than metal and be too heavy to lug around.

        • I do my whole house on normal, not max. And it's the model before the V6 too. Still good on my 3 storey townhouse.

          • @lainey13: Sorry, but your floors are filthy.

            • +1

@Suspect420: My floors are damn immaculate. Vac once a week and mop when the cleaners come. You could eat off them. We don't have the disgusting habit of wearing shoes inside and no pets or kids. If you did that then MAX on v8 isnt going to save YOUR house even if you used up two battery cycles.

  • +2

You had be at 30% more suction

    • +1

Don't get sucked into the deal!

    • What a sucker.

      • +2

At least the deal doesn’t blow.

        • Technically it does, because where air goes in, it must also come out.

    • How about 100% more suction like on a normal vacuum?

  • Could'nt see if it has the au plug or not.
I would think so but asking because op said it wasn't marketed in Australia.

    • +4

Yep, apparently an AU plug and an AU serial number, so normal Australian warranty support from Dyson.

      • Thank you for the update.
        Buying it now.

  • Bought one. Thanks OP

  • Is this basically like a better version of the V8 Absolute Plus?

    • +1

Yes, more max suction (more than V10), more attachments, lighter, better battery, faster charging, and something to do with fibre brush on the head.

  • So, is any part of this vacuum actually made from carbon fibre?
Or are they just suggesting it has enough suction to clean up a mess made from carbon fibre? Just like the 'V8 Animal' is targetted at cleaning up the mess of animals……?

    • I think the motor uses some carbon fibre shaft that the v10 motor uses, which allows it to spin faster, or something like that.

Do the other Dysons have the carbon fibre brush bar? I think the V7 does? can't be that, then.

Compared to the regular V8, it has more power, but also, apparently, a different battery.

Attachments wise, it has the whole shebang.

Basically, you're getting something that's better than the V7 absolute for v7 Animal money!

      • So tempted to get one based on your review.

    • +1

I think the V8 Animal has enough suction to suck up small animals.

I hope this is an unproven suggestion

  • Bought one last time it was this price. Very happy with it, just don't know what to do with most of the attachments!

    • +3

      Sell it on gumtree?

  • +1

    Is this right?
Has more suction than V10 (which only has 20% more than standard V8)
and with bigger battery than V10, with V10 Nikel Cobalt Aluminium battery
    and more accessories

Why would you spend the extra $200/$300 on a V10 over this? only benefit I can see with V10 is larger dust bin.

    • V11 is coming out soon so v10 should drop its price for a couple of hundreds

      • And V11 RRP is more than double this @ $1099. Has an LCD screen and they claim 20% greater battery capacity, 3600 mAh according to label.

    • One could perhaps conclude the V8CF has the superior genes, yes, Mr Günther?

    • V10 lasts longer.

    • Feels like the V10 only came out not long ago…

I'm so confused by the model range now!!

    • I dislike the bin design for the V10 though. It seems that you need to remove the stick to empty the bin, whereas its possible to empty without doing so for the previous models. Also I hear the V10 is uncanny in weight. Bought one of these when I already have a V8 absolute, so when time comes I can see if its actually 30% more powerful etc.

      • Would be keen on your feedback!

I also have a V8 Absolute and it's been awesome so far (hardwood floors so don't really need huge amount of suction, but it would be nice for when using in the car).

        • You may miss out on the deal by th time it comes.

          • @ATangk: Not fussed. I'm happy with the V8 Absolute that we have. But if this is significantly better, then it's something to consider - but not high on my priority list :)

  • Bought one, thank you

  • Still had $230 in ebay gift cards. I guess its good to finally use them all.

  • +3

the V6 animal is $314.10 with this code. Making it the same price as this expired deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/444246

  • Thanks OP got one.

  • +7

Omg why did I have to check ozbargain for the 30th time today….could have saved myself $539.10

  • Anyone else getting "This code can't be applied to your order."?

    • Works fine for me

      • weird. changed to wife's account and it worked

        • +1

          eBay is sexist!

  • Thanks… Got one too

  • I would have doubts about spending this much even in the v11. I’ve got the v6 or 8? And am happy with it.

  • Thanks OP :D

  • +4

Surprised when I posted this deal in Jan it struggled to get to the front page…¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • +1

Gotta pay holiday bills in Jan so really no money for this :)

    • Just curious if anyone end up receiving the product from your Jan deal?

  • Thanks OP have been waiting for a good deal, have purchased one should be arriving next week!

  • Thank you OP , grabbed 1

  • Thanks OP!

Damn you ozbargain, going to send me broke. New 75" TV last week with the videopro deal, now a Dyson :P

    • Don't worry, just think of them as long term investments… into yourself!

    • +1

Well you do need a pretty strong vac to clean the surface area of that TV.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP, I also purchased one of these the other night - Has anyone had their unit shipped as yet? Mine is still in a PAID status from last week, estimated delivery is showing the 2nd April.

  • Hi has anyone got the items yet. Mine is still in paid status. Delivery date being April 2 or 3.

  • +1

My order since last Wednesday paid for immediately however it's still not shipped.

    I've emailed and the reply was this;

      New message from: dyson_australia (5,421)

    Hi,

Thank you for your purchase and your inquiry about your order.

Using the information available, we can see that your order is due to be shipped next.

You will receive an email confirming when it ships and this will include a tracking number for the item. Please allow 24 hours for this number to load into the Australia Post tracking system.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if we can be of any further assistance.

    Best wishes,

That was on the weekend so doesn't give much confidence in timeframes.

Anyone else purchased and got it posted yet unless it's all delayed by an overseas shipment prior to end client delivery perhaps?

    • Had an estimate arrival 1/4 to 2/4. But haven't received yet and there's no tracking number

  • +2

Anyone else got this email? Should I take up their offer?

    Hi,

Thank you for your order from Dyson.

We apologise for the delay experienced in the dispatch of your order. Unfortunately a technical issue has caused the stock levels of this product to not update correctly. This has caused the product to remain available despite there being no stock available, and as such we are unable to fulfil your order.

As an alternative, we are able to send you a V8 Absolute vacuum to fulfil your order.

If this is not suitable for you, we can offer to cancel your order for a full refund.

Please advise how you would like to proceed at your earliest convenience.

We apologise once again for any disappointment or inconvenience caused in this matter.

    Kind regards,

    Bec

    • +2

I got the same email. No stock and an offer to get the V8 Absolute instead.

  • +1

Still had nothing from them at all. Expected delivery was 02/04-03/04.

Ordered at 2:22pm on the 28th so I'll just ask them if the order will be sent.

    • +1

Similar situation except expected delivery was 01/04-02/04.

      • +1

They got back to me. Gave me the exact same response as above and offered the V8 absolute plus as a replacement.

The 'plus' is good as it means I'll get all of the same extras but just wondering if I should go with that? I have entireley hard wood floors so extra suction power won't really do much for me, I wouldn't think.

        • +1

Is the plus having same accessories as carbon fibre?

Can you ask them for an extra docking station?

  • +1

They rang up and told me they accidently advertised the wrong model on eBay. Offered me V8 absolute. I managed to get the V10 Motorhead version.

    • +1

So what’s the difference with the v10 Motorhead? Does it still come with all the attachments?

      • +1

Nope.. no soft roller for hard floors

    • How did you get them to change it to a v10?

      • +1

Just asked them and they said ok. lol

        • +1

          Can I ask for v11?

I thought V10 is not as good as V8 carbon fibre even NOT considering accessories.

    • I just got the email too. I presume I'm better off trying to get the v10 motorhead over the V8 absolute plus???

      • @sammyboy - What date/time did you purchase?

I've had no response from them as yet when I asked for projected delivery date and no emails from them. Mine was purchased evening of Thursday 28th.

Just gauging approximate timings that they were able to fill orders upto.
