  • For those wondering there appears to be two versions of the se112, the picture seems to suggest this one is the variant with the hands free and mic. Hopefully that's accurate.

  • +3

You need to be extra careful with volume levels. Because they block out more of the air movement, they also channel the sound directly into the ear. Protect your ears and set the sound levels accordingly.

    • Yep I had the wired versions with the jack and they are noise isolating and go deep in your ear so take a little getting used to but great for noisy locations.

      • +2

Esp good for blocking out crying kids on red eye flights!

        • +3

          or blocking wife voices

          • +7

@CyberMurning: it would also have to offer 100% isolating asset protection too then

      • Weirdly enough I might go for the wired version.

        • +10

          Wiredly enough*

    • How do they block out air movement?

      • They effectively seal the ear canal, like a plug.

Also here for same price. Seems like normal price?

Because dj and mannys are now in one group.

I think $79 is normal price for the most past.

      • +1

DJCity is a competitor, it's StoreDJ that's with Mannys.

        • Thanks eug.My bad.I always confuses these dj things….:)

If only these came with the high resolution bluetooth cable, would have bought just for that!

    • What the heck?

      • Shure has a hd Bluetooth adaptor that supports high def wireless codecs inc aptx and atpx hd. Would have been a bargain if these came with that. The adaptor is rrp $249

        • meh seriosuly overpriced, dont you want that stuff built in? And dont you want support for LDAC

          • @poxy001: What are you meaning? If your wireless headphones don't support aptx then u won't get hd audio even if the phone has it. And as of date there are barely any wireless ear or headphones that support the wireless hd codecs.
Here's an analysis of Sony's Ldac vs aptx
            https://www.soundguys.com/ldac-ultimate-bluetooth-guide-2002…

            • @Sammyboy: I looked into the Shure BT cable a while back, you're better off with the Westone ones. They both have the same MMCX ends.

              • @chachi: Just to avoid confusion - the SE112 has a fixed cord and DOESN'T support MMCX.

  • Wherever you get it from seems like a decent price for a good brand.

  • can anyone comment on sound quality vs other popular Bluetooth headphones eg the jaybird X2?

I'm sure this will be a step up from my anker curves…

Yep reading reviews now… Also looking for direct comparison with Bose sound sport (but I realise bose is branding over substance usually), at least compared to more serious audio brands like Shure and Sennheiser).

        • Bose is top tier sht

          • +4

            @iDrownFish: That convinced me.

          • @iDrownFish: For noise cancellation I'd agree. They created the market where people pay a huge premium for this.

  • +1

“you’re better off spending a little extra money on the SE215 Wireless earphones.”

    • But ends up about 100aud
At that price you're then comparing with klipsch r6 which gets stellar reviews from my reading.

      • You can get the wired version for $100 off eBay

        • +6

Don't buy any shure products off ebay. I have learnt the hard way

          • @PAOK11: Ok. Good point. Thanks.

          • +1

@PAOK11: Unless it's from a reputable seller, like store DJ… mine were authentic

  • Does anyone have any experience using these on a motorbike?

    • I havn't any lucky with earphones at all in my helmet. In-ear like these, or standard mobile phone ones.
They all fall off or sit incorrectly by the time I put my helmet on.

I ended up buying a cheap Bluetooth intercom set, bad (music)sound quality, its perfectly fine for intercom/phone calls.
But it helps drowning out wind noise.

      • Thank you, I will probably end up taking that option.

    • +7

Wouldn’t you want to hear things around you especially cars honking or emergency vehicles ?

      • +1

Everybody knows cars and cycles get along handsomely.

      • +1

You can't with the wind buffeting. This is safer because it helps block our that noise which is so bad for your hearing.

      • +2

If you've ever ridden a motorcycle at 60+km/h before, you'd know that wind noise is a huge problem and gets exponentially worse the faster you go. So generally it's recommended that you have earplugs to prevent hearing damage. If you have an open faced or poor quality closed helmet, the threshold is even lower

I suppose I could see this serving as an ear plug as long as you don't turn up the volume too loud.

As long as you are sensible about it, it's not a problem. It's no different to keeping your in car volume to a sensible sound level to avoid drowning out the outside noise

    • I use my SE215s while riding (before someone berates me, I stick to podcasts and ABC radio, sometimes just silence/keep them in so the GPS can talk to me while cutting down road noise). The form factor is good, sit nicely on my ear so the buds don't get forced into my ears by the helmet like most do (i.e. not painful to wear). The cable goes up over the ear, so they don't get ripped out when I pull my helmet on either. The foam plugs are good for killing off the worst of the wind/road noise (similar to wearing earplugs, just with someone talking into my ear through them).

I nearly bought these because I thought it had the same cable as mine and was just going to swap it out (would have been a steal on the $159 BT cable…) but still thinking of getting a pair mainly for the bike.

  • Do these support LDAC or AptX?

    • +1

      Only SBC

    • -4

LDAC users are likely to spend fair bit of time listening to the 330kbps version. Unfortunately, the available resolution & 18kHz cut-off frequency are objectively inferior to CD quality, Qualcomm’s aptX & SBC.

      • So how to get CD quality from Bluetooth?

        • +1

dont listen to him. LDAC gives you better than CD which is Hi Res audio.

Get a phone with a good LDAC implementation, set it to the high quality setting and it will destroy aptX and SBC as LDAC 990k is the only codec that works up to 48kHz.

          • +1

            @poxy001: Agree 100% with you poxy001.

LDAC is the highest possible quality currently available thanks to Sony. Nothing else comes close but I prefer a wire over wireless for High resolution. audio.

          • @poxy001: Yes, LDAC has 3 different modes. Connection priority (330kbps), Standard (660kbps), and Quality priority (990kbps).
You can force your device to transmit only one of these modes.
What user taki is referring to the lowest quality mode, which is avoidable by changing mode settings.

And user AlexF is correct Shure BT1 models only supports SBC codec.
BT2 models support aptX, aptX HD, aptX low latency, SBC, AAC.

Entry level shure headphones, but for anyone who wants headphones for running that have a good fit. These are fantastic. They use standardised comply foam tips. I haven't used these yet. But I have the se535 and the bt a adapter.

    • Do you know if they are sweat/water resistant for running outdoors?

  • will give these a try for gym and outdoors thanks

  • Do they support aptx? The fit of SE215 is terrible. Hope its not the case with these.

    • +1

It really depends on your ears. The SE215 fits me perfectly, but they don't fit well in one of my friend's ears.

    • Shure BT1 models only supports SBC codec.
BT2 models support aptX, aptX HD, aptX low latency, SBC, AAC.

  • -1

These are no more sound isolating than $30 wireless earphones. Sound isolation is from the design of the se215 which block some outside noise but not to be confused with noise cancelling ie bose

    • +1

That's why it's called sound isolating. I also dispute that. My Shure IEM's block out far more noise than my Bose noise cancelling headphones.

      • Yes noise-isolation is more effective than you think. (Some people swear by it being the best).
People tend to go with over-ear NC headphones, as the in-ear noise-isolating design gets quite sore and uncomfortable for most people.
Personally on a short flight (2hrs) I have tried the Audio-technica in-ear with NC and was very impressed with its ability.
For longer flights (10-12hrs) I probably would have noticed discomfort and would have preferred over-ear NC.

        • What in ear noise cancelling audio technica did u use? Is it ANC40BT? Heard great reviews about them.

          • @usbc activist: Much older wired (3.5mm) model. The basic design is very similar to the current model though (in-ears with NC module which takes a single AAA battery).
The ANC40BT you suggested has built-in battery and only has 8 hours BT+NC, 24 Hours wired NC only, at which point you may as well go with the cheaper wired only model with 60 hours NC per AAA battery (carry around a few rechargeables when travelling).

Edit: it appears the NC is better on the model without the button/microphone on the line. I linked the correct model above.
This being most similar to the older model I used.

          • @usbc activist: I would also recommend these comply foam tips to get a good seal. (They have body heat activated memory foam)
Currently 20% off with PEACE code. Make sure you check the measurements with your current tips for the correct size.

  • anyone know if this is Bluetooth 3 or 4 or 5?

    • 4.

    • 4.1 to be exact, but that does not guarantee all codecs supported by 4.1.
User manual says only SBC codec supported for BT1 models, which is the oldest of the bunch.
I think this is a fatal flaw with this model, as customers are better informed, and want Apt-X codec as a minimum, my guess is that these are not selling very well.
But I have never listened to or owned a pair, so I cannot comment on the overall sound quality, it may be quite good although they use the SBC codec.

  • Sorry for my ignorance but compared to Taotronics TT-BH07U, is this way much better?
I'm not an audiophile but really amazed after hearing the difference between my Panasonic headphones vs Sennheiser.

    • +1

You are being too hard on yourself, you would have to have owned/listened to both the products you are comparing in order to accurately answer your question.
If you are referring to the Taotronics TT-BH07U with Bluetooth 4.2 here:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Bluetooth-Headphones-TaoTronics-TT… ,
it supports Apt-X codec, which is more recent and of better quality than the SBC codec of the Shure SE112 in this deal.

      • Thanks for your reply @margejsimpson :)
I bought the TaoTronics when there was a deal from ozbargain not long ago, but I also read some reviews that Shure is a good brand - although I think this one model is from 2017, I think. I will probably skip this one for now :D

        • +2

Taotronic is just another wave copying marketing strategy from Xiaomi. You see waves and waves of supporters and offer flooding all platform with tons of positive comments.

But just that. They are way ahead comparing with Fitbit or here vs Shure. They are at different level. Don't let yourself lured by recent waves and flood.

          • @Sonca: Ah I see.. somehow I got impression that Taotronics is quite good in the sound department, but in saying that I'm not aware of the brand history itself, except that it's mentioned a lot lately here and there. So maybe I'm comparing a Panasonic with a Bose here…O.o

          • @Sonca: That would certainly explain the inordinate number of of Xiaomi and Taotronics related posts and comments on this site

          • @Sonca: I'm confused what does this mean in simple terms?

            • +1

@poxy001: This means that just stop comparing taotronic with Shure. Xiaomi with Fitbit. Huawei with Apple. The idea is ridiculous.

As a lot of my previous comments which always got neg about Xiaomi and Tao by Tao and Xiaomi warriors in this forum.

Say that they are cheap, decent quality and decent built, I agree with that!

  • My partner is interested in a pair of wireless earphones for jogging - would she be better off with these, or going for something explicitly marketed as being for sport? It doesn't mention sweat resistance, but the promo video shows them being used for sport.

    • Don't think they would be water proof.

    • I have the same question, here is what shure have to say (yes it's fine. So they say anyway).

      https://www.shure.com/americas/support/find-an-answer/using-…

    • +2

You will be surprised what simple electronics like these can go through before they break.
They will not be ‘waterproof’ but the occasionally splash or sweat will be fine as long as you let them dry properly.
The issue you will run into with sweat are the ear tips (replaceable) which will degrade more quickly due to the oiliness of sweat. And possibly the other plastic areas wearing out more quickly (cracking) due to sun + sweat (although usually extreme amounts are needed, like if you are an extremely sweaty person, or you leave them in the sun by accident.)

  • A new 3% off code just released this afternoon.

Just a note following purchase - there are great. Beats the pants off my $37 anker curves (no surprises there) and sounds better to me than my wired klipsch image S4.

I mostly listen to EDM so I'm looking for clear bass and sub-bass. These are fantastic for the price, absolutely no complaints.

    • Mine arrived this afternoon and first impression is that they completely shit on the TT EP-01's I purchased a month or so ago.

I think I'll make these my daily driver and save the EP-01's for those pesky plane rides where ANC is a godsend.

      • How does the noise cancellation v noise isolation compare?

      • To be fair the TT-EP-01 you mentioned are active noise-cancelling (which would have a negative affect on the audio quality).
Interesting though how Shure’s entry-level lives up to the Shure brand reputation.
That was my suspicion, although it uses an old audio codec (SBC) they actually might sound quite decent (regardless of codec used).

Always and still would go with Shure when purchasing a microphone, and less so but still, certain other audio equipment (record cartridges/earphones etc).
They are a very quiet company as they do not do much advertising/marketing. Shure rely on their reputation which it is well known for in the ‘Professional’ community, and the consumer segment is often left in the dark.

  • Has anyone who purchased from their ebay store received their order yet?I am in Melbourne and i haven't even received shipping notification yet.

    • Finally got the "posted" message.

  • PLUCK3 no longer works in their store.
But they're still $69 on ebay.

    • If you buy direct from Storedj and use the code take5off you will get 5% off the price.

Unfortunately the special has ended there as implied by the previous post.

Just spotted this and saw you had beat me to the post! Great Deal.
