25% off Exide Batteries @ Costco (Membership Required)

491

Was having a look at the current Costco catalogue and noticed that Exide batteries are 25% off.

I have used Exide battery in my car and have been happy with it.

Is there a reason they don't show prices for a lot of the items there? (e.g. how much are the TVs? Or the Bose 35s?)

    • +1

Is there a reason they don't show prices for a lot of the items there?

Yes, so you can't compare with other stores. I got an Exide battery from Beaurepaires last year on sale and it was much cheaper than the one at Costco.

      No prices, no bargain

      • +5

Don't BS JV as if you'd ever buy a battery, You don't own a car you commute using $25 Uber vouchers and creating new accounts to redeem vouchers when you clock up $25. I imagine a trip to the city requires 4-5 stops.

        • +3

you commute using $25 Uber vouchers

Obviously you're new here to suggest I'd use Uber.

      • +1

someone must have something personally against you and has created a couple of accounts so they can neg every comment you make…

        • +1

Most likely they have ghost accounts…

How sad they devote their entire life to stalking someone in the forums. As if I'm going to be devastated by neg votes lol…

          • @jv: I doubt JV would catfish himself/herself

      • Let me ask you this.
In 5 years time when you need a new battery, Costco will give you a brand new one for free if the old no longer holds charge. Tell me if Beaurepairs will come close to that?

        • How much in members fees would you have paid at Costco?

I got a 42 month warranty… Don't think the extra 1.5 yrs is worth it for the $300 Costco fee.

          • +1

@jv: You would be silly to purchase a Costco membership just to buy a car battery…

        • +1

Doubt they warrant a consumable product. It's like drinking the milk and giving back the carton

      • Just call costco & ask the price of there car battery

    • Costco

      • It says that in the title.

    • Possibly because they don't want people to compare prices and then complain that it's not cheap or that it's a rip off

    • It's because different states would price them differently. I think this usually happens with alcohol

    • +2

Because not everything is cheaper at Costco, so once your in store you see $700 and think its a better deal then going to JB because your in Costco

  • +1

Anyone know the cost of those Audio Technica headphones + microphone set?

    • +1

They were $169.99 at the Adelaide store, so $129.99 with the coupon

      • Not OP but What coupon are you referring to?

        • At Costco, Coupons = catalogue specials, so AMOKS would be referring to this deal.

  • +4

Could be 25% off a high price. The OP should at least list some known prices, to give the % off some relevance, where possible.

    • +3

Will post if I get around to going to Costco after work.

      • Will post if I get around to going to Costco after work.

The last time I had a look, the batteries were with the tyres, so maybe you can just call the tyre department instead.

    • at least list some known prices, to give the % off some relevance, where possible.

Yep, that's what it says to do in the posting rules. Otherwise there's no way to compare.

  • Hi guys.

How do I know whether I need a battery replacement ? I used my dads multimeter and after 12 hours the battery V is 12.2

    Best regards

    • Shouldn't need to test anything, if your car shows signs that it's struggling to start, it's usually a sign the battery is on the way out.

      • +1

        Cheers for replying

        No struggles to start

I will probably need a new battery when there is no special deal

        • Mine had no troubles to start until the day it just didn't start..when it was 8PM and home time :(

It was dead, with 0 warning. Lucky Kmart tyre and auto does free 6 months roadside assist but an hour later and $200 ish for a new battery and I was on my way home.

          • +1

@mavis30551: Same. Mine died a few years ago without any warning. While I was 2 hours away at the beach too. Brilliant timing.

    • Your car will start to have problems starting. Usually a good way to tell..lol. Seriously though, depends on car sometimes. My 2013 model Mazda started doing wierd stuff like the the I stop lights would start to blink oddly for a trip and then the key lock remote would be a bit all over the place. Battery still lasted another 6+ months until one morning it was just dead. Those batteries are hella expensive. Cheapest I found was 260 as they have to be a specific type to hold charge. Wish you could disable that bloody I stop feature.

    • +1

I used my dads multimeter and after 12 hours the battery V is 12.2

You measured the battery for 12 hours? 🤔

Unless the battery is in really poor condition, you actually need a load tester to test the battery. A multimeter will only give you the open circuit or unloaded voltage. A load tester will put an actual load on the battery to simulate a cranking starter motor.

      • -2

Sorry I meant I measured the battery after the car had not been used for 12 hours.
        Thanks for the advice!

    • +1

If you take notice of everything, normally the first sign is slightly slower starting during cold mornings which goes down hill from there over time. but if u tested the battery for 12 hours I think you are clearly doing something wrong. you should be testing over 12 days :P

    • Go to an auto shop that tests batteries for free. They will give you a report.

12v after resting for 12 hours is pretty low.

      • Super Cheap Auto does this.

    • Car batteries last about 4 to 5 years.

    • It's not just about voltage, it's also to do with cold cranking amps (CCA). This is the amount of amperage the battery can output after the battery has stabilized without recharge for an amount of time. Head to a supercheap (they charge now I think), autobarn or even most local mechanics will use a battery tester on your battery to see what it's health is at.

Generally speaking, the other advice you hear in this thread as well is correct. If you car starts to struggle to turn on, that's a very clear sign it's on the way out.

    • +1

If it's died once, replace it. Even if it's because you left the lights on

  • Can anyone confirm what the Samsung 55inch TV will actually be sold for less the coupon?

  • +2

No price in title… how wpuld we know its a bargain?

    • You don't.

That's why these posts should be removed, or moved to the forums.

There is no way you could do a valid upvote or downvote without been able to do a price comparison.

  • $8- for almost 3KG of gold standard protein is decent

    • You EAT batteries ???????

      • Pretty sure batteries are a source of minerals, not protein.

        • The acid helps your body balance internal pH levels

  • The exide batteries don't have the best CCA rating. They're very finicky with returns when it comes to batteries as well.

    • I've never had a problem returning anything to Costco, in fact they are known for their generous return policies. I was a US member for approx 20 years and have returned several car batteries as they used to offer a 100 month guarantee, 3 year full replacement and the rest prorated, e.g. after 5 years I think you got 40% refunded. I haven't returned a battery in Australia, but all my other returns have been hassle free.

    • +1

Please don't lump all the Exide batteries together. It's only the ones from Costco (and Kmart if they are still selling there) which are the budget batteries.

I can certainly say that the blue top and especially red top batteries are genuinely fantastic. Not biased either, I use to work there but have no brand loyalty anymore :)

      • +1

It's only the ones from Costco (and Kmart if they are still selling there) which are the budget batteries.

I agree, it's the only the Costco ones. The Extreme and the Endurance range that Exide have are great. Sadly, they don't sell it at Costco.

        • +2

You can order it though Costco. I ordered one last year and it was ready for pickup in a few days. Got that when it was 25% off

        • +1

They do stock the extreme range (red top). I picked up a X55D23CMF today @ the crossroads for $101 after discount ($136 normal price). Cheapest I found on ebay is $145, normal retail around $170.

  • Back in May 2018, I recorded these prices
    Cmfns40zalx $77.99
    Cmfns40zlx $77.69
    Cmfns60ls $95.99

If someone could confirm the validity as I can't remember whether this is their normal price or with 25% included.

    • I can't confirm pricing for the Cmfns60ls as I didn't see it today at the Aurburn store but the other two are $77.99 as a standard price

  • can you connect these batteries to a solar inverter to store electricity? Just curious.

    • +1

You could. You'd get more power out long term with a deep cycle variety.

    • +1

I would highly advise against doing this. These batteries are not good for long discharges like that and are really designed to be used with a alternator recharging at 14v to keep them in a healthy state.

You would be much better with an AGM (Absorbed Glass Matte) Deep Cycle battery as these are designed for many discharges and do not let off any form of gas.

      • +1

Not all AGM made the same. If you buy a 2nd hand telco box one cheap from online, they where designed to stay charged.

        • Oh totally agree. Was talking very generally speaking. If I were doing a solar setup, even something small for a caravan or the like I'd buy something new anyway. No point buying a battery that's been abused it's whole life and dies after 10 discharges when you may have still spent 1/2 the price of something new.

    • +1

Only if you never drain under 75%. These are cranking batteries, deep discharge will kill it super fast.

Look for lower CCA if you really must. They don't have super thin plates and might last longer.

Market for a 2nd hand forklift battery would be better time and money spent. Good luck.

  • I purchased a N70 battery last year@Costco during a 25%boff sale,I think I.paid $120ish,at that time,it was the cheapest N70 I could find,3 years warranty.

  • -7

Sorry i'm all for 25% off. But 25% off what exactly?

    • +3

      Exide batteries

    • +3

      133% of the original price.

    • -3

So you going to neg these deals too ?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/450410
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/450409

And there more that came from.

      • +8

        You are kidding right?

Those are deals tied to a website where you can view pricing and hence why people upvoted.

This on the other hand has NO PRICING associated.

        • I don't see the issue, goto Costco store get the prices and check against online stores. How hard is that? Deal is deal.

          • +5

@boomramada: Really? Pretty sure if everyone had to go and hunt for best pricing then this site would have no basis to exist.

And if that isn’t enough for you just remember it’s costco, Not your Coles around the corner. People want to know if it’s worth the effort to go. Not make the effort only to find out the price was cactus…

            • @bemybubble: You like it or not, thats how Costco operate, so you going to negative all the costco deals?
Costco not always cheap, if I want to buy a big ticket item, I usually first go to Costco, check their price, same time google it for competition. Its not that hard, just get your ass off your couch, deals don't come to you sometimes.

Edit, I'm pretty confident, 25% off Costco RRP will beat competition hands down.

              • +1

@boomramada: Not going to neg every Costco deal. In fact you’ll see I’ve posted some in the past. But that’s because there was pricing available

                • @bemybubble: I know I agree with you, Costco is a bitch, but this is a good deal if someone looking for Batteries.

    • You got neg cos you neg. That doesn't make sense to me. Deals should have prices. Period.

  • What price does the Samsung Q7 come down to?

  • +6

Costco has unusually cheap car batteries. Last time I replaced my battery it was $65 at Costco and $125 SuperCheap Auto for the same brand/model.

For people wondering why prices aren't listed, there are dozens of battery size and type variations. It's unrealistic to list them all.

    • Tyres too. My local Bridgestone store quoted me $1527 for four tyres (under the 4 for 3 deal). The same tyres were $1253 at Costco.

      • Bobjane would have happily beat that quote and properly aligned your wheels as well. Costco can't do that. I've been matching Costco for years now.

        • Good to know, thanks!

  • Lol, if someone wants to shout me a Costco membership I'll drive to Moorabbin store now and get some prices… I'll show myself out.

  • damn I just bought the boogie board yesterday paying full price and I have opened the box.

    • +3

you must be new here.. buy another one, refund with the full price reciept.

    • Find any grass inside it?

    • +2

Costco have a 90 day price drop protection. You can get the difference refunded to you

  • +2

Bought a Exide battery from Costco last week (before the 25% off)

It was half the price of the equivalent name battery from Supercheap ($80 vs $157). The Supercheap home brand was still $130.

Even without the 25% off, The Costco batteries are very well priced.

    • +1

As per the usual when this thread comes up. I used to work for Exide batteries so I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

My warning still stands though as in the last thread & the one before….

Exide batteries use to supply costco with their blue top batteries. These were considered a steal even at full price and I am certainly aware of some mechanics buying batteries from there to onsell to their customers because the value was amazing!

Exide changed their deal and now they are supplying the black top batteries. These are a budget battery with much less lead and a much shorter life cycle. Trust me, I moved by hand countless 1000's of these batteries and the weight difference is VERY significant.

    • Assuming from the catalogue pic, we'd be getting the black top then?

      • Unfortunately yes….

Are you looking for a new battery?

        • Yea. Any recommendations on for a wrx 2016, seems like forums are saying century is the way to go.

      • +1

Saw the rack instore (Auburn) and they're definitely blacktops

  • +2

IIRC Kmart got rid of Exide Batteries due to too many returns.

    • Thanks for that. I'd been mistakenly telling friends and family that Exide batteries were made in Australia.

According to the Exide website they got bought out and stopped manufacturing in Australia at end of 2014:
      http://www.exidebatteries.com.au/_blog/Latest_News/post/pres…

Found a summary from a Whirlpool post:
      https://whrl.pl/Ree1MF

Kmart Auto have now switched to Century batteries:
      https://www.ktas.com.au/car-batteries/

      • The only batteries these days made in Australia are Century.

A MASSIVE amount of other batteries you see in Australia are all produced by one company, RAMCAR, and all come out of their Philippines plant.

You could pretty much name any name brand these days short of maybe 4-5 and the rest are RAMCAR….

    • There was a lot more to that than you think… People would take the price stickers off really small batteries and place them on the 4WD batteries and then only pay $50 for a battery worth almost triple.

People would buy a new battery, take them home, peal the stickers, place them on the old battery and return them to Kmart. Kmart employees have no idea how to test a battery nor likely even have the equipment so have to give a full refund. They would eventually make it back to our warehouse and we'd be just gobsmacked that anyone in their right mind would look at the totally chewed up terminals and think that was the battery they only sold a few hours before.

I'm not surprised they pulled the line, they must be have been losing money hand over fist selling them in the retails stores!

I ducked into to the Auburn Costco to grab a pair Michelin HydroEdge wiper blades ($11.99 each) and this is what I saw on the racks.

[Costco SKU] - [Exide Model#] - [Regular Price]
    41473 - CMFNS40ZALX - $77.99
    41474 - CMFNS40ZLX - $77.99
    41475 - CMFNS60LS - $96.99
    41477 - CMF57 - $105.99
    41478 - CMF58VT - $105.99
    41479 - CMF58 - $105.99
    41481 - CMF55D23R - $108.99
    41482 - CMF53L - $107.99
    41483 - CMF65L - $129.99
    41484 - CMF66H - $156.68
    41486 - CMFNS70LX - $127.99

    • are you sure that's regular price because those seem quite cheap

      • I can confirm these are regular prices.

        • wow, that's very cheap for a battery. surely there's a catch somewhere?

          • @Kranbone: You got to be a member to buy the battery?
