@INFIDEL: Having your way of life challenged makes people uncomfortable.

I stand by the fact that people don't believe in animal abuse, even the toughest criminal still love their dog.

If slaughterhouses had glass walls there would be a lot more people not eating meat, milk, and eggs.

Unfortunately that won't happen, so spreading information on industry standard, humane practices approved by the government and RSPCA seems to be the only option at this point.

Vegan's aren't forcing their view on people, they simply want people to look at what they are supporting and make up their own mind.

I don't consider myself an animal lover, but watching a pig being lowered into a C02 pit sends shivers down my spine, looking at the practices of dairy farming, from artificially inseminating a cow, taking their baby away from them and eventually sending them to be slaughtered when their flesh is worth more than their reproductive organs lead me to a place where I thought.. I might switch to soy/ almond/ macadamia/ hazlenut/ coconut milk, and I might try some mock meat, or eat more veggies.

                • @Bargain Hunter 007: You've got your stick out again. Bye!

                • @Bargain Hunter 007: I watched dominion (yes, the whole 2 hours) and the only thing that made my skin crawl was the fox still blinking after its skin was removed.
Still happily eating meat and drinking cows milk etc. Although after viewing the documentary I switched from free range eggs to cage eggs, because according to the drugged up narrator, they're much the same thing.

                  • @Some Human: Interesting the one thing that you actually listened to from the narration from Joaquin Phoenix was the one thing that suited your agenda.

I don't know how to say this, but if none of that affected you, I'm sorry to hear that, hope you are doing OK.

                    • @Bargain Hunter 007: It takes a lot more than some sappy music and somber words to sway me. The documentary was extremely biased and really only focused on factory farming.
Instead of trying to get everyone to “go vegan” (which as long as there are animals around, will never happen) start smaller and aim for improving conditions of factory farming. Improved conditions means an increase in the cost of meat, which is more likely to decrease people’s intake of it.
Or alternatively all the vegans could get together and save up enough money to buy out the meat industry, which would definitely be more effective than hijacking pork threads on a bargain website.

                      • @Some Human: You act as if there should be only one approach?

That's your opinion and there are others out there who probably agree and are acting in that fashion.

Tbh I was just trying to raise awareness on a slow day at work. And continuing to try different ways to get the message across most effectively, which will still mean a bunch of people saying it is a shit way to get the message across.

I believe that information is they key, and getting people to see unbias reporting is essential, I'm hesitant to recommend Dominion to strangers, but do recommend it to friends who know me and know that I look into all my actions with an open mind and a lot of thought.

Apparently it takes A LOT more than some sappy music and somber words to sway you, because there was a lot more than just those two elements in that documentary, like.. a lot of suffering which is standard practise and deemed acceptable.

One thing we can agree on though is that vegans buying out the meat industry is more effective than this thread.

                        • @Bargain Hunter 007: Dominion IS biased, they literally tell people to go vegan at the end of it and you can tell it's narrated by vegans because of how drained they sound when they're speaking.

continuing to try different ways to get the message across most effectively, which will still mean a bunch of people saying it is a shit way to get the message across.

who better to tell you it's the wrong way to get the message across, than the people you've failed to get the message across to?

Like I said, aiming for improved conditions on factory farms is a more realistic approach.

  • Just started getting through the $1.88/kg Coles Pork Loin Boneless Roasts & $3.75/kg Coles Pork Shoulder Boneless Roasts from January. Was worth stocking up for the cooler weather.
The additional discounts ($10 code, $16 cashback) made it a great deal🍴

    • CashRewards $16 cashback on $50 Coles order was approved today🎉

      • That deal haunts me since I was screwed in multiple ways (none of them enjoyable).

    • I don't know how I missed that deal :(

      • The ultra cheap loin roast price was due to substitution - the promoted size was not available & somehow Coles stuffed up many of the prices in my favour. Like 2.9kg of Organic Chicken Breast reduced from $52.51 to $14🎉

Aldi mean gone too far down hill last 6 months for me to trust most of it.

Bought one of the whole Eye Fillets for a roast the other day and was like rubber and leather combined. Went in the bin.

The couple of times I have made the mistake of buying Aldi pork I have always been disgusted. It is the cheapest of the cheap, the fat always has a rank taste and smell to it. Compared to local food co-op where the I can eat the fat on the pork upto the skin no taste or anything.

    • Thanks, you made me feel better about buying the Coles version for $11/kg last week. Although it probably comes from the same source :/

      • The difference is probably Aldi is sourcing more male pigs than female pigs.
        Same source most likely.

        • Makes sense, and would explain the "rank" taste and smell that dealaroo mentioned.

  • The pork whole loin is amazing imo! Under $20kg, low fat great buy.

bang it in the slow cooker and do some easy pulled pork. beautiful

    • Exactly. Cook this low and slow and it'll come out very nice

  • smart marketing… just in time for Ramadan

    • Well that smart arse comment fell flat🙄
      Ramadan Mubarak for 5/5-4/6
But no Muslims will be looking at this Deal.

I don't know what you're all whining about?! Aldi Pork Roast is exactly the same as what you get at Coles & Woolies but much, much cheaper! Although this is their 'NORMAL' price so not sure how it's even a 'deal' but anyway that's another story! Seems to me lots of people can't tell the difference between a good piece of meat to a bad one! 🤔

    • +1

Wonder why your comment is being negged?…

See earlier discussions of how Aldi meats are considered not as good.

Not all meat is "exactly the same" as you claim - comes from different animals & animal practices / abattoirs / suppliers! Meat is of differing grades.
Aldi source based on low price, and price is highly related to the grade of meat.

If you think "lots of people can't tell the difference between a good piece of meat to a bad one! 🤔"… maybe you're the one who can't?? Seems people do know there is a difference!

This is not "NORMAL" price - it's a front page of catalog "SUPER Saver" price from 10-16/4. "NORMAL" price "was $7.99/kg on 2/4". That temporary price reduction makes it a deal.

Enjoy your holiday in the Penalty Box - but next time stick to facts. Google might catch you out😉
