    Just fixed, thanks!

Just keep in mind this is a direct import

Which means your missing out on the Australian Weber 10 year warranty and some of the accessories are missing too

    • +8

You'd be pretty unlucky to have to make a warranty claim on these. They're rock solid.

      • You can get the Aussie one for 10 to 15% off during sales and combine it with discounted store gift cards

For that extra money, it's worth the warranty

        • +3

No it's not, they are rock solid. I bought mine 6 years ago from Costco for $150, it must have been used 400 times and still in great condition.

The local ones are substantially more expensive. These are a good buy, also check costco.

          • +2

@Mentem: Agree. Bought my gold 2nd hand 10 years ago. Still like new. Weber bbqs are the bomb.

          • @Mentem: Costco haven't sold them for a number of years.

I hope they bring them back at US prices (and US colour choices)

          • -1

@Mentem: They may be rock solid but you want that warranty. I'm in the aussie weber FB group and guys get handles and other little bits replaced for free all the time on old kettles, even outside of the 10 year warranty period.

The grey imports do not come with the charcoal baskets or the hinged grate and when you add those in you're saving about $30 so you're better of getting that Aus warranty.

Now that they're $250 it's definitely not worth it.

        • what is a good price for an aussie one?

      • +5

yea I've got a 34 year old Weber, not requiring warranty yet ! :)

        • I have three (green, red, black) all made between 1985-1987. New ones are made in China. Old ones, USA. Quality is much better on the old ones. The newer ones have had the odd case of enamel/porcelain quality problems.

          • @MrRevhead: I think these might be USA made. The one I bought from costco is defo made in the UK. The enamel is amazing quality! I suspect it will last 20 years, althought I might need to buy a new grate

      • Agree. I've had mine for at least 15 years, and although it's a bit tatty, still does the job.

  • Heard great things about the Webber, how do these compare to this one bunnings have for a bit more?

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/matador-radiant-kettle-bbq_p0038…

I say a bit more, in comparison to the Webber’s “standard” price

    • +1

The Weber can be quite leaky. If you're in Perth and your BBQ area gets the afternoon breeze you'd be better off with a tighter fitting kettle. I can't speak for the one linked but the old Bunnings kettles were better suited to windy areas. Weber is still iconic, you should really have one in the back yard just for the sake of it.

Get the Weber mate you can’t go wrong. I’ve got a 1985 kettle still going strong. If you can stretch the budget, get the premium version and you won’t look back. A small expense Up front gives you great results for a well supported and well accessorised bbq.

  • +2

Surprised this will stay up because Weber force anyone in Australia to remove imports, even on Amazon.com when a seller does international shipping Weber will be on the phone to shut them down almost immediately to keep prices high locally

    • +4

      You are right sir

      https://www.smartcompany.com.au/business-advice/legal/bbq-wa…

The BBQs sold by Bunnings do not include the hinged cooking grill, grate and charcoal basket, aluminium drip trays, a handbook and cookbook which are usually sold as part of the product in Australia.

The ones sold by catch are missing those same accessories too

I think most people are expecting a Weber with all the accessories.

      • +4

Props to Catch. That type of anti-competitive behaviour should be unwelcome. I'm surprised it's not in breach of competition and consumer laws. Perhaps, that case pre-dates the parallel import protections?

        • It's the same business model Apple uses. Max discount 10% on their set prices, any complaints, no Weber/Apple for you.

          • @Flyerone: I had a German Iphone replaced and repaired no worries. International warranty

  • -4

    No warranty no thanks

  • If you have a old catch account check your emails I got a $15 voucher if you spend $60 or more.

  • How does cooking with a charcoal BBQ compare to a standard LPG flat grill one? Still fine for basic cooking of snags, or is it only worthwhile if I want to do fancy stuff?

How long does a bag of charcoal last with on of these? Will I be buying charcoal bags as often as I'd be refilling LPG bottles?

    • +2

The deal appears to be over, but if you bbq steaks, chicken, or do roasts in your bbq, charcoal takes your meals to a whole new level. I haven't cooked a steak indoors in the 6 years since I got my first Weber kettle. If you're just doing the odd batch of snags, I'd say the convenience of a gasser outweighs the taste benefit of charcoal.
Obviously charcoal purchases depends on usage. I have a Weber Q 2200 and probably go through three 9kg bottles a year, and that's using it a few times a week. I buy charcoal far more often than that.

      • Thanks for taking the time to reply. Good to know. I'll be in the market for a BBQ later in the year, still thinking about what I'm going to get.

  • +1

The hinged grate and the charcoal baskets are definitely worth getting. I think you can get aftermarket baskets from Bunnings for about 15 bucks, and the grate about $60.

  • 10% off catch gift card @ woolworth.

  • Just a reminder for anyone intrested in buying it, this doesn't have bezel lid mounted thermometer like the Webber BBQ if you buy it local.
I don't know if that is a big deal because I don't have a Webber BBQ

Just got a price match with Appliances online! They match with delivery fees, but its Aussie stock. He said it was below cost but still went through he said they had 2 in stock… I have taken 1! not sure if thats just QLD or nationwide

    • Just bought one as well price matched $215.95 from Appliances online and I'm in NSW.
      Thanks for the info

    • Just bought one as well price matched $215.95 from Appliances online and I'm in NSW.
      Thanks for the info

      • How do you do the price match online?

        • +1

For next time you can message them if they have any live agents, if not I suggest giving them a call and telling them which website you found the item on.. No matches to eBay but to all other online retailers with an ABN I think.

    • Thanks! I just got one through them too :)

    • Thank you! Just bought one as well (NSW).

      • Well looks like the stock count was only for QLD

  • +1

Weber is like the Apple of BBQs. Very little margin for haggling and exclusivity. Justified too as their BBQs are simply brilliant.

  • Can someone tell me if this is worth spending over the $59 one at Bunnings. i.e. https://www.bunnings.com.au/jumbuck-57cm-black-charcoal-kett…

Just looking for an honest opinion if this Weber is worth 3x the price.

    • +1

I've got both and I say yes.
With that said I bought my 30 year old Weber secondhand so only paid $80 and it came with the baskets. Managed to score a hinged grate during the Masters closing down sale.
The Webber is deeper meaning that you have more space between the grate and the lid and can take a rib rack easily.

    • If you're looking to spend as little as possible you could pick up a second hand Jumbuck for anywhere from $0 - $10 on Facebook or Gumtree. They are a good, cheap intro to cooking with charcoal. And if you find you're loving it and using it heaps you might justify a Weber purchase.
Jumbuck build quality and longevity doesn't come close to a Weber.

  • Thanks team, ended up biting the bullet and buying this over the bunnings matador range. Got it from appliance online as well $198, delivered

  • I don't really rate my weber, the grate isn't stainless steel and has rusted many years ago… I guess I still use it but not ideal.

  • Cant believe these are only $109usd in the states. Webber must be selling them as a loss leader over there.

    • They aren't losing money, they are cheap to manufacture.

  • I asked appliances online to if they would price match this morning, they said no and they said they shouldn't have priced match last night from catch as it is a daily deals site.

  • It is now $249 at catch
