  • Mna guess it's about time to replace my Razer Blackwidow from 5-6 years ago… still works mostly fine even after a few accidental spills onto it…

Probably a downgrade in switch quality but i'm sick of excessive debris collecting under the recessed space underneath the keys

    • might be a stupid question but, wouldn't excessive debris collect under the keys of this one too ?

      • Not really. I just checked under the keys of my current 'board and with the island layout on these the top part of the switch case sits proud from the keyboard's top plate. Thus, the switches themselves are above the surface where all the bits collect, so they shouldn't get crud collecting where it will affect actuation. A vigorous shake gave me a generous helping of board chow, so it looks like cleaning should be a lot easier, too. Spills may be less of a problem, too, as liquids may not get into the switch mechanism as easily.

  • Has anyone replaced the key caps on this? I've been looking for one for work but I'm not a fan of the type face, I'd much rather buy a keycap kit from China and replace them, would that work?

    • No reason why it wouldn't. Dozens of them cheap on Aliexpress. Recommend PBT type caps for longer lasting lettering.

    • I have the brown TKL and am thinking of replacing the keycaps but don't know anything about them (SA? OEM? DCS? etc etc) - can you recommend a cheap China set?

      • From my (limited) research, generally PBT is recommended, it's thicker plastic and a bit more expensive but worth it. Personally I'm looking at something like this (https://bit.ly/2HPL03z), but there's lots to choose from on places like AliExpress.

If you're looking for a cheap one, look for ABS instead of PBT, but I would personally spend the little bit extra and get something that lasts longer. If you want to go all out you can also look for Artisan keys, which are expensive metal keys to add some personality.

Just make sure you buy one that has the F-keys and the number pad/arrow keys sections, lots of cap kits come in smaller sizes for people building custom ones, you want something that is uniform for the entire keyboard.

  • WTH, why this keyboard is so colorful :D

  • I have one of these at work (brown switches). Way better than the Microsoft membrane keyboard I was provided.

  • Shame this one doesn’t have the USB port on it like the previous version of their mechanical keyboard, that’s a handy feature to have for my mouse. If it did I would have bought this as a spare!

    • Agreed, I have grown to really love the USB pass throughs.

      • Me too. My only complaint is that some of them have a second USB connector to plug in. I don't know why they don't just put a USB hub in the keyboard and remove the second cable.

    • A USB extension cable and some zip ties works almost as well.

    • Oh that’s a shame. And a dealbreaker for me, as I’m out of USB ports at the moment.

  • I have one of these with the red switches. The light effects are fun, actuation is good and responsive however the weight to press is maybe 30% more than the cherry reds. Most people won't notice and they are clearly miles better than membrane keyboards, but if you do lots and lots of typing you might notice.

  • Bought one of these when they went on sale not long ago. Really happy with it, great price for its quality.

  • Years ago I bought their cherry switches model for $100… Thought that was a steal. Feel like a sucker now.

Shame about the font on the keys. I'd get one, but it looks too garish for my tastes

    • Agreed, the font is terrible. However, this costs peanuts compared to the Ducky Shine 5 I'm currently using at home, so it's a good price to try out the brown switches (blue is too noisy for the office, unfortunately) regardless of the font.

    • A full key cap set can be had very cheap on eBay or Aliexpress from China. Any colour and font you like.

  • Got one brown key.

I think the only mechanical keyboard I used before was the very old IBM keyboard :)

Thanks. Didn't know I needed this.

I have one of these at home as a spare. Crazy value. Have become quite a fan of the brown switches.

  • Hey All,

I bought 2 of these, a red switch and a brown switch.

    On the plus side;

    fast delivery
    It's a $39.00 RGB keyboard.

    On the negative side;

Couldn't really tell the difference between red and brown switches.
No game API support, so if you're expecting it to work automagically (like my Razer) with games like Diablo III, forget it.
Key caps are very hard to read unless they are back-lit by the LED (so, reactive profiles are out)
The editing software it terrible, really only allowing you to light the whole thing up, create macros, or select a pre-configured profile. Couldn't seem to edit individual key settings.
The caps lock, num lock and scroll lock LED's are super bright… I had to put tape over mine to avoid blindness.

    • Thanks for the review, can you turn off the LEDs in general though? Is it via hardware or software?

can you turn off the LEDs in general though

        Yes

Is it via hardware or software?

Kogan sued for lifting prices before offering 'false' discounts
    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-05-23/kogan-sued-by-accc-fo…

    • This one isn't a false discount though. It's an amazing keyboard for $39 delivered.

  • Mine arrived today (two days after ordering). Very good quality for the price, enjoying the brown switches for typing.

    • Same!
      Very happy so far.

  • it's back available on pre-sale, ships on 8th july…too far I suppose.

  • Thanks OP. Got the KB and really like it.

  • Just had mine delivered this morning and have used it for about an hour now.
I've noticed quite a loud "ping" from almost every key, and some googling has told me it is the springs making the sound.
Has anyone else encountered this and can offer a fix/solution?

I read somewhere it may be temperature related, or the need of lubrication on the springs?

    • I'm pretty sure it's the metal case that's making the pinging. You can tape on the case and still hear it. Not sure about a solution.

    • Annoying the hell out of me and the wife..might have to go back to non mechanical…just typing is so loud on a brown switch and the pinging/echo is making it worse.

      • I put rubber O-rings on all of the switches and even added some padding/insulation to the inside of the case but they have only made a minor improvement. It's completely the fault of the metal top plate.

  • I just received one of these (blue switch) keyboards for work. It's absolutely amazing for the price!

Interestingly, it must share some internals with the well-regarded Redragon keyboards as the configuration software is exactly the same and similar in how you go about changing the light functions on the keyboard itself. I have a Redragon K556 (brown) at home and it's fantastic, perhaps slightly better build quality and some spare switches included but otherwise not much in it. But considering this Kogan one was 1/2 the price of that I wish this sale had started a few weeks back when I was initially looking for one!

  • I received mine today. The brown's clicky sound level is exactly right for me. First mechanical keyboard for a long time.
