  • iMac is the most recent update, so good deal there.

    • Beware the 2011 iMacs if you intend to do your own HDD upgrade. Many did this with previous versions to give it a cheaper storage boost or to replace their own dead original HDDs.

Apple's shut this down so now they're the only ones who can do this for you (at a premium of course)

      http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/12/apple-restricts-hard-driā€¦

      • lol, just imagine if this was carried over to the mac pros :P

any chance in the next decade to see 11 percent off (or higher)

      • That link has been floating around a lot, what it fails to mention is that several people have done their own upgrade without any issues.

  • I have been thinking of a new imac for a while, and now with it being EOFY it might be a decent time to jump in.

  • Would JB hifi do same deals. I have JBHifi near by my work.

    • You could always show them the website and see if they'd price match. Couldn't hurt to try.

      • Yeah, always worth to try. But lately, I noticed that shops are not that easy anymore in doing price matches. Seem that they want hard proof. only posts on Ozbargain and websites aren't enough. Especially HarveyNorman is a pain in the ass…

Well actually I tried last time and the guy poked me in the eye. It hurt.

  • I'm gonna get a macbook pro 13", but can't decide if I should get the cheaper 2.3GHz one or the 2.7GHZ one. Does it make much of a difference?

    • +2

      Approximately 400Mhz difference.

      • Haha, that I know. I don't really know much about computers, so I really don't know if I should pay around $300 more for like a bigger hard drive space,i5/i7 and that GHz thing.

        • +2

I wouldn't. They're both using the same integrated GPU. With these notebooks, this would usually be your bottleneck in performance, the processor itself is fine and you won't get too noticeable improvement going from one to the other.

As for HDD, externals are cheap as chips at this point.

    • trust me it doesnt make much difference at all unless you would really be doin ay hardcore adobe stuff. I had the same confusion. but i only use my mac for youtube and streaming, movies and microsoft office. If thts what you do as well, the basic version is more than enough, you ll save heaps. save it for new mac version coming next year :)

    • Yeah, I looked at it and apparently its not worth the extra $300.
I have the 2.3ghz and its great.

I would go with the lower end macbook pro (which i have!), the only difference is that the 2.7 i7 has the turboboost thing, useful IF you do things like music productions, photo processing, heavy photoshop etc. Does not have much of an impact on the general performance itself.

If you have any cash laying around after getting the low end 13", upgrade your hdd harddrive to a SSD (solid state harddrive), this is the biggest performance increase per dollar than any other upgrade option. You might suffer some disk space loss (128gb instead of 320gb) BUT its worth it to see your macbook booting up in 5 seconds (than the usual 30 seconds), wake from sleep in micro-seconds and triple your read/write speeds.

      • I would agree with this

    • Oh wow, thanks for the input guys! I think I'll just go for the lower end macbook pro.

But damn, should I wait for the macbook pro revamp in 2012?

      • +3

Why not wait until 2013 while you're at it? :P

        • Haha yeah. I don't think I can wait that long anyway..

  • Yesterday my collegue got a Macbook Pro 13' for $1590 from JB at Bourke Street. She had my invoice from DSE for $1259 from the 10% off in April. She also got the Applecare for $250 which is close to the student price. Someone from our IT went with her to assist with her purchase. Don't ask me for an invoice as at work we won't be able to do that.

This is for the those of you who can go and haggle at JB to know that they sold one for $1250. Personally I prefer DSE or OW to JB. I have always had not very pleasant experience to say the least.

Regarding not being able to change the hard disk, I am not sure where in the documentation but I have seen very detailed user instructions on how to change the hard disk. I will have to check up my manuals.

Just got Macbook Pro 13' from Myers for 1260 with 2 year extended warranty for extra $149….all together $1409…..warranty is not apple care though, its Myers in house?? united cover

13 foot Macbook Pro, that's crazy.

    • Is it possible for you (or anyone else) to share your receipt reflecting the 10% discount? I was planning to get a MacBook pro this weekend but I just realised I don't have sufficient funds in my account! Most of my money is in a ubank acc and I can't transfer in time):

      • Yes sure i got a scanned copy of Receipt…I am just not sure how to upload it

      • +1

OH YAY! The funds came through in less than 1 business day. Surprisingly fast.. I can get my macbook pro this weekend afterall!(:

  • Man that Air is looking very tempting now…. especially since I haven't used my education tax refund at all and it's getting near the end of June….

    • A refresh is coming up - Should wait for it.

      • Is it coming out before the end of this month?
Cause the main point here is so I can get the Tax Refund. Might get a MacBook Pro, in prep for uni then…

        • If you can wait for WWDC (Apple Worldwide Dev Convention) which happens on the 6th of June in the US (7th of June for us) - I suggest waiting. Lion OS is coming out and there were talks about Arm CPU replacing the C2D ones which Mister Jobbeh will definitely be presenting on about with a more definite time schedule on the release dates.

If you also plan to get it now, the 4GB model far outperforms the 2GB model if you are intending to multitask alot, unfortunately, BTO only.

          GL! :)

        • If it gets announced on the 7th, how long till it hits out shores approximately?
A week or two? And will stock run out quickly or not?

  • I got my new macbook pro 13 inch at the Woolworths staff sale, man was it cheap and yes I had difficulties deciding between the 13 inch and 15 inch models, I did notice the 15 inch i7 was faster at opening some applications but I just love the size of the 13 inch.

    • $1119 was an amazing price for the MBP

    • One of the reason why I don't mind going to stack stuff on the shelves for 1 night a week.
