  • Previous deals were always the red and brown switches, when I got them seems like a good kb for 39 dollars, the packaging etc isn't very good mine was shipped in box with a shipping sticker on it no satchel

  • Brown switch is same price.

  • Tempted to buy the brown switch for use at work, would it be too loud in an open plan office?

    • +3

I have one and it's pretty loud. I definitely wouldn't use it in an open plan office.

    • Probably.

    • I have a brown switch keyboard which I use in a semi open office. It's not overly loud at all.

  • I have no doubt its not going to be as good as a premium mech keyboard but could somebody comfirm as to if there are decent enough considering the price?

    • It is decent worth the money vs a 20 dollar oem ms keyboard I always rocked back in the day lol

    • I bought one the other day. I haven't used it much (at home, been busy) but so far it seems to be ok. Not as good as my Deck that I use at work, but probably not noticeable for most people.

    • For $39 delivered you'd be hard pressed to find anything better. Probably equivalent to most $60ish boards you'd find at mwave/MSY etc

I just ordered some pbt double shot keycaps for about $12 that I'm sure will make it seem even better (I can't stand the font they use. Gross. Also pbt has a nicer texture than abs keys which end up a bit slippery/shiny)

      • Hey, what keycaps did you go with for $12 for this keyboard?

Noob question, but where do you go for a free trial of kogan first?

The only option I'm seeing is at full price.

    • Terms and conditions say that they may offer a 30 day trial from time to time, so doesn't seem to be a permanent thing.

      • Ah, thanks. Guess I'm paying shipping

        • when i go checkout, it asks me if i wanna go for the trial..

          • @18: No option for a trial here, never previously signed up for one either,so not that. Guess targeted in some way?

            • @rhangman: seems to be selected postcodes only. I tried a random one and it didn't pop up. ill change the description.

Whoever designed and/or approved the font used on these keyboards seriously needs to get a life (and have their arse kicked).

Blah! Wish I could touch type and ignore this bastardized work of design numptiness!

…apart from that small impediment, the keyboard is good value.

They are cheap "gamer font" ABS keycaps that are commonly used on a variety of other cheap chinese keyboards/knockoffs. They get the job done and the light shines through them pretty good. You cant expect more from a board of this price. I bought a set of nice PBT keycaps and it really transforms the whole keyboard to have a more premium feel.

      • can you link the PBT keycaps u bought?

This is the one i bought because i liked the white/grey/black colour contrast, looks pretty good against a dark coloured backplate. The keycaps are alot thicker than the normal kogan ones and feel more high quality. Aliexpress has loads of variety, with alot to choose from so you can choose something more simple if that suits you. Make sure you buy Double shot PBT as that will have the highest quality legends. I like to check the reviews as that will usually have user pictures of what it looks like.

@manlet123: The key caps are as expensive as the keyboard….!

            • @humbala: You could get ABS keycaps for alot cheaper (10-30) for the set but they arent as high quality and wont last as long as PBT which are around double the price. Its more of a preference thing. Although a cheap keyboard and some nice keycaps would still cost you less than a branded store bought one which can go up near 200.

    • The 1 2 T etc are pretty normal, but the 0 P A etc have the breaks because of how they are made there are no complete circles or middles would fall out. Probably a cheaper molding process than the more expensive keyboards use.

  • what about compared to this one?https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/449532 Do they have the same or near quality?

  • I'd received free shipping with Shipster from Kogan last August, so the Kogan First trial wasn't available to me. I received an error in check-out when trying to start the Kogan First trial telling me I'd already done the trial, so I now had to pay the ridiculous full price.

Kogan support couldn't figure it out and weren't interested in helping me, so I didn't purchase the keyboard out of spite. I'll wait till there is a free shipping code.

    • Seems to be almost the same keyboard $43.79 from ebay (delivered). (a few different screw locations but same keys and switches, I found some aoyeah sales that said they had Outemu switches).

      • That may only have "rainbow" backlighting and not the programmable per key colour feature.

I purchased one 6 months ago, and while it was acceptable for the price, I felt pretty 'meh' with it. I also noted that the left shift key would stick, making csgo less enjoyable to play. I sent in a request to Kogan support regarding the sticking key, and once I submitted a video showing the issue they immediately posted out a replacement. Super impressed with their customer support.

I want to add that they have significantly improved the keyboard since my initial purchase. The stabilizers are upgraded, and doesn't show the same sticking issue. The base of the keyboard is thicker and one solid piece, rather than having the seam running the length of the board joining 2 pieces of plastic together. More rubber feet are added. These factors also now give a better feel to the switches (personal preference). The enter key layout is changed to ANSI (my preferred layout). The cable is now braided which is nice. The key font is different (still shocking though). The only change I don't agree with is the choice of screws, but that's only applicable if you plan on opening the board.

Overall I just want to share this experience and hope Kogan continue to improve on products in this fashion.

Really impressed after initially slightly disappointed
