Sony A7 III (ILCE7M3B) Camera Body + 24mm-105mm Lens Kit $2567.42 + 2000 Qantas Points Delivered @ Qantas Store

3285
QANTASSTAFF

My first deal post so let me know if I've done anything wrong.

I think this may be a pricing error as the body and 28-70 kit lens is the same price.

The a7iii body went as low as $2000 from memory and the 24-105 went as low as 1500. So if my math is right this particular kit is the cheapest by approx $730.

The cash portion of the purchase also earns you 5541 PTS.

I'm not sure if the Qantasstaff code works (from the Sony WH-1000XM3 post), but if it does it could savd you another 10%.

ahh well it was fun while it lasted…GG

  • +3

only if people would have waited instead of calling and getting this flagged in the system. They would have probably slowly cleared the orders.

    • +4

It's fun to blame others but the first guy to call and comment about it said his order was already flagged. So I really don't think that had anything to do with it.

The average call centre drone typically are not switched on enough to bother flagging something like this. They read their script and get paid.

    • I called them to cancel my other order, but the staff brought up this case. Not that I was impatient!

  • Now I'm not sure they fulfill my headphone order

Yesterday I gave away the Sony PS code for the same headphone

  • That's it. Not going to check messages anymore. Will wait for the email update. Thanks OP for the short time spent on dreaming.

  • what are you guys expecting them to do when they are inundated with 100s of calls about exact same item, any company with a pee sized brain would flag and become suspicious!!

    You are harming yourselves technically

    • +3

People spend $2500, hear nothing for a couple of days and make a call. If you think that's weird I don't know what to tell you.

      • +5

It is weird if the listing had a stated dispatch time of 10 days

      • +2

it's not like they'll take your money and run away. If this was a random store on eBay then yeah but that's Qantas

        • -1

I know they won’t run with it, but if they’re not giving me something in return then they can give the money back. I’m not in the business of providing interest free loans.

          • +4

@omgitzrick: and they're not in the business of providing staff discount for non-staff either so it's better to maintain low-show until the order is processed rather than raising their suspicion

            • -2

@barozgain: There were no T&Cs to agree to to use the code.

              • +1

@omgitzrick: no, you're wrong. By entering any promo code you automatically agree to the promo code's T&Cs and very likely the promo code's T&C for STAFF discount would say only for people working for Qantas.

It's same as entering a store, by entering you agree to the store policy

                • -6

@barozgain: No, I’m not. There’s nothing about promo codes in their terms and conditions. I read them before commenting. I’d urge you to do the same next time.

                  • +5

                    @omgitzrick: I actually did read

"49. Why is my promotion code not working?
Check the terms and conditions found in the communication to check for eligible products, dates etc."

SO did you read the original communication about this code?

          • +5

@omgitzrick: This argument makes me laugh everytime. When you ordered you knew there was a risk of it being an error or not being honored by Qantas. Same goes for everyone who went through with the order. If having $2500 tied up for a few days or even a week is such a big issue, you probably shouldn't have taken the risk.

            • @keejoonc: That's fair man. All a matter of perspective, I suppose. I didn't view it as a risk so much as a purchase. It wasn't until later that it seemed potentially too good to be true. I can afford to be without the money (otherwise I wouldn't have gone for the deal), I just don't like having money tied up in nothing. Glad you got a laugh though I guess :)

rang, on hold 20 mins. spoke to Lin (Leen) and she said order was under investigation and I will be informed of result in time.
The order number and the item were never mentioned, she just went into the spiel.
I suggested the investigation might want to actually involve me, as I'm happy to answer questions (since we never mentioned the order at all, and legit use of code)
she said its an internal inquiry and thanked me for being a valued customer.

the allegation of fraud would need them to be investigated as part of security clearance (should you have one as a qantas employee) or be employed by the australian government

the terms and conditions of qantas store says they will call you about orders, so ringing up now is a waste of time.

  • To be honest I think it's a good thing if you call them and confirm your order. My order was previously put under investigation "security hold" bla bla.

But the call centre person told me that they have released it from being on hold and it's being processed.

    • +2

That doesn't mean our orders may not still end up being cancelled. No one's order is secure until we receive tracking details.

  • Yeah what about holding our money- how long till Amex charges interest ?

  • -1

Unbelievable, people still calling and making enquiries

    • +1

People spending $2500+ on a product that they really want, of course they want to find out about the status of their order

    • people need to relax… if they honor it or not… it will make no difference if you call… you're just wasting their time. waiting on the phone for 20 minutes and then getting the same spiel as everyone else is a waste of time

      • +1

Frankly I'm fine with wasting their time. They've apparently wasted ours.

        • +1

          I mean, you're also wasting YOUR time…

          • +2

@poppingtags: Eh, multitasking. Doesn't take much attention to sit on hold (or chat) while doing something else. I take your point though.

  • +2

Does anyone know the details of the QANTASSTAFF code?

Was it a friends and family code?

A blanket cancellation due to use of code would be a disappointing given there are likely genuine valid uses of the code amongst the savvy masses.

    • I think code came from Sony WF-1000XM3 Deal

      JASP on 10/08/2019 - 14:52
Use this Code to get extra 10% off

      QANTASSTAFF

  • -7

I called them just now and was told same thimg, “under investigation”, blablabla. And she said 80% it will be canceled.

Agree people should NOT contact them. But a few idiots did this in the last 2days. So it doesn’t matter if any one else wants to ring them or not.

    • +12

      But you still called them…..

      • +12

a few idiots did this in the last 2days

        also :

        I called them

        OK

        • -7

Obliviously you can’t read. It doesn’t matter there are more people to ring them.

      • haha, we are all idiots then

    • Not sure how she comes up with 80%.

At least there is still 20% chance. Keep BELIEVING guys.

    • 80% CHANCE that it will be cancelled, or 80% of orders will be cancelled?

      • +1

        Chance

I used birthday code. So will be interesting to see what happens. I also bought before it was on ozbargain.

    • Hm interesting

      • Same story though. No news and order status still in process.

Crazy that they don’t contact us to let us know we need to call them.

        • I should have done that… well if yours gets through i will try to get mine changed to bday code as i am eligible for it too… fingers crossed

    • Ooh, you might get a pass! What does your order status say?

      • I ordered on Saturday at 2.30pm.

        • edit: n/m

    • Oh was it literally ‘birthday’ ?

      • Generic code that only works in your birthday month

    • Was the code BDAYAUG19? If it was an August thing,I'm eligible too, but my birthday doesn't appear anywhere on my QF profile, and i couldn't see any way of entering it.

  • This may just be a genius way for Qantas to earn $15k in interest while they hold us up for a month

    • +5

Yeah, I'm sure Qantas, a multi billion dollar airliner, is paying staff to come up with ways of earning $15k in interest by upsetting a whole bunch of frequent flyers…

      • +2

I'm glad we're on the same page

  • +11

    need…stop…checking comments…

    • I just unsubscribed lol

      • +7

you'll miss out when someone posts about needing to ring Qantas to say the secret phrase or else Alan Joyce will nuke your order

    • +2

Given how slow Qantas is, I doubt we're going to hear anything today - possibly not even for a few days.

…although I'll be damned if that's going to stop me from refreshing this page every 5 minutes!

      • +3

        Order status: lol

  • +1

From Sony WF-1000XM3 Deal ( Its not looking good :( )

"Just asked chat about the status of my order. This is their response:

At the moment we cannot warrant any sales of this product and you will receive an update on the investigation. You will get an email confirmation if the orders will push thru or will be cancelled. The status of the order is still pending and we don't have a specific time frame how long will the investigation last but we'll make sure that we'll keep you posted via email.

Sounds so different from what others have been posting here.

She also proceeded to ask if I used any promo code for the order.

    I think they've caught on…."

    • +2

I wouldn't read too much into messages and updates given by the first line chat/ call centre staff. They'll just be sharing whatever scripted update they've been provided with.

The longer this drags on, the better chance of a happy outcome as far as I'm concerned.

If they were going to cancel orders due to pricing error, it would have happened by now.

If you ordered and didn't use the QANTASSTAFF code I reckon you're pretty safe.

Just comes down to how the handle those who did use the code.

I have no idea what the T&Cs of that code were. Was it explicitly for staff only? Was it for staff to share with friends and family?

If it was able to be shared with friends/ family - I can't imagine they'll contact each of us and ask us to validate the name and employee number of the staff member who shared the code details.

Will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

If we get to COB tomorrow without cancellations, I reckon we are all pretty much in the clear.

      • +1

The longer this drags on, the better chance of a happy outcome as far as I'm concerned.

The longer this drags on, the more crazy I'll become

      • I didn’t use the qantas code. Not because i didn’t know. I was in my smoke break and running out of time. The website lagged so bad. Tried it few times and failed. So i decided to screw it and pay without the code. Regardless its a steal anyway I thought. 😂

      • I'd also love to know about the QANTASSTAFF code.

  • If the only issue is with the use of the promo code, I wish they'd just say that. All I really want is some transparency. Hell, say that and give us the option of paying the difference. I doubt there's one person in here who wouldn't pay the extra $200 or whatever.

They have probably found this thread and are reading or have read all these comments. But in all honestly, if they wanted to not do it they should have done it by now. The money has been out of my account for 3 days now. Who knows they could just be sourcing stock and investigating an ETA to fulfil these orders.

  • Just check my credit card statement and see something weir:

12/8/2019 Qantas Frequent Flyer Mascot AUS -$2567.42
12/8/2019 Qantas Frequent Flyer Mascot AUS -$245.87

14/8/2019 Qantas Airway Limited Mascot AU -$1.00 (Pending)

Anyone got charge $1.00 from Qantas after purchase the camera?

    • +1

I'm fairly certain this is the charge they do when you add a credit card to your account, essentially to check if it works/exists, like what paypal or hotels do. I have the same charge on mine. It should go away in a few days I would think.

      • Yup.

    • Same

Day 5: Are you still feeling lucky today?

    • Do you still have faith?

    • +1

If they want to cancel our orders, they would have done it in the first few days imo.

Hopefully they are sourcing the stocks at the moment. Good luck to us all! feeling positive on Day 5.

      • Amazon took several days to cancel the hard drives and that was globally

        • I got $60 voucher for the cancellation. Very happy about that.

  • +2

You! Yes, you, the one is checking this comment at the moment, go back to work! Your boss is watching you!

    • +2

Jokes on me. Im my own boss!

    • +5

My Boss also bought it, so we both are checking the comments.

  • The use of the staff code is an easy get out of jail card for them to cancel orders especially if they can't source product. They are most likely aware of this OzBargain deal and can easily determine who used the code against T&Cs thanks to people providing the exact time of order and confirming they shouldn't have used the code.

Good luck all but not looking good, for me included (I didn't use code).

I can see them trying to source product to honour those who didn't use code first but I am expecting a cancellation too.

    • But what about those who have genuine claims to using the code?

      • Which they can easily check against their employee records to ascertain they really do work for Qantas?

Mind due, Qantas does extend discounts to immediate families and when I worked for them many years ago we had to add the name of the people eligible for discount.

The fact they asking callers if they used the code to be very telling that that is forming part of this "investigation" aka reason to cancel orders. They will probably just tell everyone it was a pricing mistake and refund everyone. I don't see how they will be able to honour some and not others who misused staff discount code especially since we are all discussing each other's progress on here.

Just being realistic and you should too. Doesn't excuse the lack of communication.

        • +1

Punters over on the Qantas Store Sony headphones thread are continuing to receiving confirmation of shipping. So keep the faith!

Orders placed on Sunday. Staff code used. Talk of investigations etc. yesterday. And yet orders are still slowly being shipped.

Investigation is likely just a poorly communicated way of saying that they are investigating how to get their hands on 200+ cameras and 200+ lenses.

          • @cbrendan: I hope so too +1. I wouldn't want to piss of frequent flyers and cause unnecessary stress telling people of a 80% chance of cancellation or orders being under investigation; bad move from their part.

This thread causes me same level of anxiety as the yearly Tax Return Timings thread on Whirlpool.

          • @cbrendan:

            200+ lenses.

This will likely be the problem. It will take months for the lenses

  • +5

Honestly, Qantas should just approach Sony directly to negotiate the fulfilment of these orders. It's in Qantas and Sony's best interests. It will look great for both their revenue figures, it's close to, and probably still above Sony's cost price, Qantas will have hundreds of happy customers and not have to waste wages dealing with complaints, and Sony will gain substantial profits over time as we all buy their batteries, lenses and accessories and further boost their market share. Not sure why all these shady delays and 'investigations'. Even if it was a stuff-up on Qantas' part, they can easily win from this situation instead of cancelling orders.

    • +1

The problem is this is supposed to be fulfilled by Harvey Norman, it says on the page that this is a third party fulfilled order.

If it was directly Qantas they I'd see them fulfilling but there's no way Harvey Norman is willing given that there is no benefit to them.

We're currently waiting for Qantas to finish discussing with Harvey who may or may not be discussing with Sony.

      But I'm still hopeful.

      • HN / JB would still benefit from the revenue & sales qty figures, and those stats are a high priority in the current retail environment. Hopefully they work it out.

  • +4

This thread is more exciting than Game of Thrones.

    • +3

      Game of Sones

  • I'd say that Sony would be happy to fulfil the orders - look at their PS Plus deals. Seems like they've either had a quite start to the financial year, or are aiming to get their sales numbers for August/Sept.

  • +2

I think everyone trying to make a business case for fulfilling orders is ignoring the fact that we have been told by Qantas that the most likely outcome is that our orders are cancelled. They're just very slow to get anything done.
