Odd cookie. One moment gabby's too rich for vodafone, then she complains the $40 for $20 itunes credit to be too expensive, later says the $22 Sanyo camera was too pricey…

Good for temporary storage of your number while porting… :)

    • how does this work?

A lot of post paid contracts may not let you join straight away (may take a few days), in the mean time your old contract is still charging you.

So simply switch out to a prepaid sim the day before your old contract expires, and then join something else and port your "saved" number across.

LycaMobile also sends free sims. They have excellent rates too, especially for international calls.

    https://account.lycamobile.com.au/freesim/default.aspx?lang=…

    • Which network do Lyca use? - I thought TPG sim was cheap!

      • Lyca uses the Telstra network.

        • +5

mention Telstra 2G otherwsie people will get their panties in a bunch when they find out lack of 3G/Next G

  • Not sure what it means when a company has to give them away…

  • +1

they are only valued at 1cent anyway to the companies, so it doesnt really cost them anything.

    • I'm sure the cost of printing, packaging, shipping and retailing would amount to a bit more than that…

Its something like give rifles free for charging bullets
        or
cheap printers with expensive inks :)

        • +3

or "free" paintball but charge inkjet ink prices for the ink bullets

  • If only they were still on the telstra network

Do these actually have any "use"? Can you use them to receive calls?

Or do you have to charge them in order to use them anyway? (In which case there's no use getting them anyway)

  • Cool.
If Vodafone screws up again I wonder if they'll let their customers(including these sim packs) send free SMS for a day? :D

  • Hopefully can get a really good number then port out

    • or sell the platinum number on ebay.

        0488888888?

  • Got one cheers. I use it to check out if mobiles are unlocked or not. Also to check if the reception is OK under Voda without buying one from Woolies

    • Me too, very handy ^__^.

  • Thank you very much for posting this deal.

  • Can we just activate and pick the recharge plan without actually recharge it?
What I want is just activate and get the mobile number without paying the recharge plan.
    Is it possible?

    • I know it's possible with the regular voda sims. They work straight out of the box so to speak. Buy the sim, pop it in a phone and you can receive calls straight away without even activating the sim.

    • Yes you can activate it without recharging. But if you don't recharge within 4 weeks the service is then canceled.

      • 4 weeks is pretty short.

  • So are these able to receive calls right away, or do you have to activate AND add credit?

  • Hi, wondering if any one had received this yet? Thanks

  • Still waiting for mine.

  • Got mine today.

  • ditto

    • Me, too.

  • Hope this isnt too off-topic :s
If your phone is locked to optus and you put this Crazy Johns SIM in your phone, is a "your phone is locked" message supposed to be the first thing to appear?
I dont have any other locked phones to test, and I thought my phone was unlocked but was told today that it is locked to Optus, so Im testing it now with a CJ sim, but unsure what exactly I am expecting as I dont see any messages regarding the device being locked.

    • The SIM packet says at the bottom Powered by Vodafone. So it's reasonable to assume that your locked phone does not like the SIM.

      • I know Crazy Johns is powered by Vodafone. Im pretty sure my phone is unlocked, but when I went into Cash Converters the other day (for mystery shopping), that lady said my phone was locked to Optus. When I inserted the CJ SIM into my supposedly optus locked phone, nothing about requiring an unlocked code or phone being locked message appeared- so my phone accepted the Vodafone sim. I cant call with the phone as I dont have any credit, but the bot does tell me I have $0 balance.
Im just curious to whether that CC lady lied to me or not, trying to rip me off.

        • Maybe she just took one look at it and assumed that it was locked. You can't tell without testing whether it is locked or not. After all Optus allows you to unlock after a certain spend or a certain amount of time, so there are unlocked Optus branded phones out there.

        • She tested it, I saw her put a Telstra and Vodafone SIM in the phone then walk away for a bit (maybe to talk to her boss or something, I couldnt see) and came back to tell me it was locked, but she didnt show me the screen to prove it.
If it is locked, I have no problems getting it unlocked.
If she did lie to me, just so that I'm willing to sell my phone cheap to them, thats very very dodgy of them.
