@salmon123: successfully changed to pom plans twice then ported away.
No reason third time won’t be a charm.

No reason third time won’t be a charm.

Maybe, but there's several posts saying that it no longer works.

              • -1

@salmon123: and several others that does. Including my own experience
                Good luck..to me ✌🏼

@salmon123: Its a bet that you never lose even if you lose. Even if he can't switch to m2m plan, he can pay $390 ETC and he already got his $500 gift card.

I understand that, but you finish up paying $390 cash for a $500 gift card that you sell for $400, maybe $450? So in the worst case scenario you're up $10-$60 … not to mention the credit hit … too much effort for my liking. I wont touch a credit card deal for less than 100k points.

                  • @salmon123: That'd be the worst case scenario. The best case is you get 2 x $450 cash without risking anything.

                  • @salmon123: This is not something that I support to do, but I'm not here to judge. Its up to everyone whether you think this is the right thing to do. I just hope the Telstra rep who let people out of contract without ETC don't lose their job, especially now that they already have a written policy for it.

@salmon123: Just writing to let you know that I successfully upgraded from the jb plan to a Telstra plan on my second Telstra online chat attempt today. Sold my gift card to a friend for $400. Not bad for about an hours work Looking forward to the next promotion.

                      @dealfiend:

Sold my gift card to a friend for $400.

That's pretty shameful. Is your friend not aware that you can buy jb hifi cards for 5% discount on numerous websites?

                      • +2

@salmon123: He gave his friend 20% off, that is pretty generous in my books.

                        • @googoogaga: I thought @dealfiend got a $400 card, but yeah selling a $500 card for $400 to a friend is generous.

                    • @dealfiend: Great! Would you please let us know what was your exact request (sentence) from Telstra?

Tried yesterday but the Telstra chat rep was so strict. See below my unsuccessful attempt:

Me: I was told in store that I might be eligible for a $10/m port-in discount (bonus credit). Could you kindly apply it to my account, please?

Telstra rep: "Were you given a reference number about the discount?
Because our discount has eligibilites here
$10 discount can be applied for customer signed up to our in market plans (Medium - XL Sim only plan)
From what I can see, your plan is under JB Hi-Fi Mobile BYO Plan $65 12 Month
We cant apply $10 discount on that plan as that is not included on the on our in market plans
JB hifi do have different offers."

            • @dealfiend: Good luck. They now get a warning sign with the ETC. But again good luck. Please let us know how you go.

              • +1

@TomGum: Thank you. Just completed the sign up without issue. Waiting for port to occur. Picking up gc tmrw (store had to close)

  • Called the Camberwell store to see what they're still offering, the $45 plan is now only a $100 gift card.

    • Good Guys still do $200 if that helps, signed up today

  • Signed up during my lunch break today. Giftcard will not be provided until port is complete. Sales consultant advised that even if port doesn't go through today I will still be eligible for the $500 giftcard. There was no paperwork to sign in store. Just verbal acceptance of the T&Cs and contract with a Telstra rep over the phone.

  • Stupid question. If my optus 12 month sim only contract ended a few months ago, im currently on a month to month with optus.

If i port to telstra, what happens to my optus account?

Does the porting notify optus that I am no longer with them? coz I obviously wanna keep the same number

    • Number "ports" to telstra. You now have no number with Optus. Account closes

    • Hey Bigballerbrand, I cant pm u regarding to 50% code samsung. Can u give me ur email or mobile? I will contact u

  • I was with Telstra, ported to a $2 Amaysim last night, went to Knoc City JB Hifi today and transferred back on $65 with $500 gift card.

Thanks for the tip OP :)

  • Anyone here porting from Kogan to Telstra is taking longer than 24 hours ?

    • Hi. No. I signed up for 60gb for $65 per month and a $500 JB hi-fi gift card at 10am and was with Telstra by 11am (from 365 day Kogan).
      Thanks OP for posting!!

  • signed up at 2pm from optus, port yet to be completed. Optus have said they have released the number. Whats the general eta?

    • +1

I've been waiting since Tuesday lunch time. Still nothing.

  • Asked for the $10 port in discount via online chat. Asked if I ported through Telstra shop I replied no. I did through in hiding and said the sales person was busy and he directed me to the online chat. They checked my account and said they applied the $10 a month discount.

    • I'll be trying this tomorrow. Raced to jb & ported in this arvo. I'll wait until it's fully ported and have my GC. Hopefully I'm as successful as others have been.

  • Just signed up in Perth city. Will call tomorrow to see if it’s gone through so I can get my gift card. The portal was very buggy and the guy ended up having to ring customer service. I did walk in at 5:15pm though.

  • Just finished a chat with Telstra 24x7 and applied the $10 per month port in credit.

This deal is insanely good now :)

  • Was on chat and I was told there is no port in credit at all! It ended Feb 2019

  • For those wondering or interested.

    Question:
Hi, I would like to know if I can upgrade to the $80 Mobile Plan from the $65 JB Hifi BYO plan? Previous consultant said yes, but I didn’t get a reference number. So I would like to confirm this with you and get a reference Id. I havn’t yet signed up, but I will do so soon.

    Response from Telstra Rep1.
If you're currently under the $65 JB Hifi BYO plan and you want to switch to the $80 Large Plan, cancellation fee will apply for the remaining balance in the contract. Previously, it can be waived when you switch plans but when there was a promotion for those who signed up with JB HiFi and get a $300 voucher, some customers took advantage of it.
Once they received the voucher, they switched plans right away because we recently launched our no lock in contract plans.

    Response from Telstra Rep2.
Thanks for providing that, If you would change mobile plan from your old mobile plan to the new one we do offer you will be needing to pay the ETC or Early Termination Fees of your current Jb Hi-Fi plan so you can do process an upgrade to the mobile data plans we do offer.

    Response from Telstra Rep3.
Okay I do understand. If you will sign up for the JB Hifi Plan, Yes you can change to the $80 100GB Plan by paying the Early termination fee for the contract on the JB HIFI Plan.

    • YMMV with each rep you chat to.

I didn't even mention switching plans, they offered it to me lol

      • Interesting you say this. What did you even ask to be even offered for a plan change?

        • -1

I only asked for port-in credit

  • I've tried porting over from Boost but was denied by the sales guy because apparently Boost is a subsidiary of Telstra? Can anyone confirm this? I understand they use the same network but didn't think this would be an issue.

    • +1

On JB's website, "*Available for New Tesltra & Port-in Customers only. Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers."

Anyone that signed up yesterday afternoon, are you still waiting for your number to be ported over? Patiently waiting so I can go and get my gift card. They had issues with the system yesterday and there was a back log apparently.

    • Yep, I'm still waiting. Signed up around lunch time yesterday.

      • In the same boat, ported at around lunch time as well.

        • Did you receive any sort of paperwork confirming eligibility for the $500 giftcard once port was complete? I heard the JB consultant confirm with the Telstra phone consultant that I was. Other than that no other evidence.

          • @holeshot: Waiting over 48hrs now. Called JBHIFI ans the lady said she would escalate.

          • @holeshot: Didn't get anything but the guy at JB said that they had all the info in their system and once the port was complete to head back to the store for the gift card.

          • @holeshot: Nothing on my paperwork but I’ve spoken to the guy I dealt with and there’s no problem with getting the gift card once the port goes through. There was issues with my number but that’s been fixed so just waiting now.

    • I went in on day one of this deal and still waiting (catch connect, optus).

As for proof, I had to agree over the phone I'm signing up to a deal with a $500 gift card so I doubt they'll stooge me.

I just know they're gonna cut my sim at the most annoying time.

      • I think catch connect is the issue, got problem too and still waiting…

        • Over 24 hours for me too, signed up Wednesday afternoon. Kogan/Vodafone here.

Planning to call Kogan today and give it the hurry up as I believe it's at their end as I've already received all account info from Telstra.

          • @db87: Cut over this afternoon. Near on 48 hours pretty much. 47 and a bit to be exact. I did call up earlier this afternoon to both Kogan and JB so not sure if anyone put a bit of extra sauce on it to get it over the line. 🤷‍♂️

        • My number is with Amaysim and it’s still connected. I’m going to ring JB later today.

          • @rmk: Ported now. I was nearby jb and they said try putting the sim in even before your old sim goes sos.

I thought it was weird but it worked.

        • I just chatted with Catch online chat… they said they can't see any request of porting for my number.

          Maybe its Telstra?

          • +1

@csider: Looks like it as Amaysim have just said to me they’ve had no port request as yet.

      • +1

        Spoke to Telstra online chat.

Beatrice Ann at 9:31, Sep 13:
As of now we're having issues regarding Porting In of SIM due to upgrading of services. The timeframe of getting this issue fixed is within 24 hours.

Not sure if this is just a copy paste but…maybe T is having some issues.

        • Connected finally…Friday the 13th….

          • @Kooratz: plus $10 discount from telstra chat

            • @Kooratz: How did you go about getting that $10 discount, what did you say to them ?

              • @tyleralberti: I said nothing about jb hifi plan, just ask very politely if i can have $10 porting discount on my account, thats all.

Good luck..he said that this discount not for everyone, he applied to me cos I think I manage to sweet talk him.

  • Anyone know if there was a problem with porting, like incorrect DOB, would Telstra and JB be able to see?

    • This was definitely mentioned to me by the Kogan rep. They had the correct details at their end, as did jb, but he specifically said if going from prepaid to post, they would require DOB and not just your previous account number.

I was only asked for my Kogan account number and unless they had my telstra details from a previous account, there's every chance they would have missed the DOB thing so worth checking up on.

    • Yes it would likely be rejected. The JB guy mentioned to me today that if that happened they’d simply start the process again and as I signed up while the promo was happening I’d still be eligible for the gift card. I chatted with Telstra today and they said my application was “in progress” still. Couldn’t give me a time frame. Not that worried. I was more worried about the billing period but they said that doesn’t start until their sim is active.

      • But can jb hifi see the exact reason why a port is "pending", note pending, not rejected/declined, for over a week?

        • +1

I called jb and asked this and the answer is no

        • Did you receive a sms from Telstra and confirm the code?

          • @TomGum: Nope. Got a plan summary email, got many actually.

  • +1

Can confirm, I received the $10 monthly discount just now via the online chat purely by saying I was told in store I might be eligible for a port discount, and I also asked for bonus data and was given 5GB extra for free, total of 65GB Data for $55 per month, on the iPhone X $599 JB deal. They told me yesterday they've sold out of the iPhone X deal now at JB Indooroopilly in Brisbane. My number took 2 days to port over as well.

  • I have tried via Telstra 24x7 chat for the $10 per month discount be applied to my account.
Here are the two replies I received……

"Hello xxxxxx, thanks for messaging and for staying online. I appreciate you bringing that to our attention today. I would suggest is to contact JB HiFi if they are still offering $10 discount for Port in as we do have different offers in Telstra."

"Sorry for the delay. I have checked my resources to further assist you however we don't have any on going promotion or discount for a JB HiFi customers as of the moment here in Telstra. So it is really more convenient if we just talk to the JB HiFi as this is actually their plan."

So unfortunately I was unsuccessful for asking for the $10 port in credit as it was mentioned in store at the time of porting in from Kogan a few days ago.

Can I do anything from here or is that just done and dusted for me? Cheers guys.

    • +1

keep trying, i managed to get diaxount from first rep i spoke to.

      • No bananas…… The $10 per month discount doesn't seem possible now.

My last reply from Telstra chat

"Hello, thank for waiting and staying online. I can see you were messaging with us earlier today.  I can confirm that you're looking at getting the $10 discount for porting your service. Thank you for choosing us as your provider. I can confirm that you have a JB Hi Fi BYO Plan and an additional 20GB Mobile Data Bonus, Offer/deals/promotions cannot be used in conjunction  with any other discount or promotional  offer. We appreciate your understanding in this matter."

        • +1

just tried this and first agent off the bat said sure he can apply it and got chat transcript sent to my email so will confirm tomorrow

          • +1

@jabroni: order number can take 24-48 hours but i spoke with another agent who said they will push for the discount immediately and got the sms confirming it within minutes

i think one method is to say the jb hifi rep said you are entitled to it but his/her system was buggy so they asked you to do it over telstra chat

  • +1

First rep gave me the credit, i said rep told me about a $10 sign in credit. they asked if jb and then applied credit

  • Success. On the carpool into work this morning, hit up the Telstra chat and in about 15-20 mins all said and done, $10/m bonus credit applied to the $65/60gb plan. 👍

  • Anyone still waiting to port in? I applied on Wednesday.
Though, the upside is that I get to utilize Optus more as long as I don't get charged by Telstra until I hop over.

    • +1

Yep I’m still waiting, I’ll contact JB/Telstra/Amaysim tomorrow if it still hasn’t gone through by then. I don’t know how long it takes to “fail” if there are issues. When I messaged Telstra on Friday they said it was “in progress” and to wait for an SMS. As for being charged by Telstra, it won’t happen until you have ported over and have an active service with them.

      • Still waiting here as well, even after multiple promises from Telstra.

      • Cool, thanks for that, making full use of Optus it is then.

I've contacted Telstra, said that it's "in progress" but should contact JB to push for it. Contacted JB and they said they couldn't do anything about it.
Contacted Optus and they said they haven't received any port out request…

Though, I've received Telstra's sms for a fraud prevention code on Wednesday itself. So I'm pretty sure Telstra is at fault here.

        • Have just finished with 24/7 chat, honestly they have no idea. Amaysim have no record of Telstra requesting the porting of my number. Telstra says "in progress". Have now involved the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman.

          • @raytriplej: How long have you been waiting?

          • @raytriplej: That’s the response I got from both on Friday as well.

            • +1

              @rmk: ring telstra porting team

i found they were the issue as optus ported over as soon as request from telstra came in

              • @jabroni:

                ring telstra porting team

Do you mind sharing their number please, thanks

    • +2

Yep I'm still waiting for port to go through, signed up on Wed (11 Sep) as well. Funnily - I received an this arvo from Telstra regarding the plan's inclusions.

  • +2

6 days for a port from one company to another is crazy

  • +1

Only took me 2 days. But when I did my mum's one before, it took like 2 weeks. Because when moving from amaysim to catch, optus screwed up and didn't have it showing the right company in the system. Send a complaint threatening TIO for someone to finally look into it and get it fixed.

So learning from my experience, for any of my future port, if it ever takes the usual 48 hours like they suggested, I'd be sending a formal complaint as it most likely something wrong somewhere.

  • Any one else still waiting for their number to port to Telstra?
I will give the Telstra porting team a call this weekend.

    • Yes I am also still waiting afer signing up on the 11th September.

      I have engaged the TIO.

I now have a dedicated Telstra Rep (LOL) looking after my issue. Two of his comments:

"Firstly, I would like to apologise for the delay of your port in order

To be completely honest, we have a known issue for such orders"

      and

"We are currently undergoing system upgrades and migration, which unfortunately impacts port in orders.
Telstra has already made the TIO aware of this matter."

      • Oh wow. Did they mention anything about how long would it take to resolve this?

  • I’m still having issues but I am waiting on a replacement sim from Amsysim before I can be sent the code from Telstra. If I hadn’t contacted Telstra via chat on Tuesday who knows how long I’d be waiting before being told the port had failed.

  • Still waiting. No text from Telstra.

    • Still waiting also… 2 weeks is ridiculous.

    • +1

Give Telstra a call on 1800 631 334 & asked them to resend the code. That's what I did. But be mindful, once thdy resend it, it can still take 48 hours for you to receive the code in text msg.

      Good luck

  • I called them this morning and they didn't seem phased at all. He said he had people waiting well over a month to port…

  • +1

Finally all done for me, ported over last night. Spent 20 minutes getting it sorted in JB this morning though. Hadn’t updated on their system and they had to make a call.

  • +1

Congrats rmk. I got my text yesterday so fingers crossed it won't be long for me either.

  • +1

Finally over to Telstra - 16 days. I am going to ask for a monthly discount to minimise my pain and anguish caused by going thru this process - worth a shot.

    • Mine number only ported a few days ago. Spoke to them yesterday on chat and got the discount applied. Tell them the rep in store was the one that informed you of the discount and how to get it and they will accept that.

  • +1

Unfortunately I had to refer mine to the TIO,. Upside was Telstra have offered $10/mth discount and a $200 good will credit.

    So $65 less $10 less ($200/12) = $38.34/mth (with 60GB and $500 gift card).

  • +1

Woohoo! Thanks Telstra! My port finally went through - only a mere 1 month+ after the initial port request!!!! Time to pick up my $500 gift card!

  • Congrats

    • +1

:) Now to try my luck at obtaining the $10 porting credit.
