    • Most of these features are things that bring it into line with the competetion, while removing features that made it good. The speakers, photo backup, design are things that you lose while paying more, and they are so cheap they can't start the base model at 128gb. Nearly year old CPU.

  • Any possibility JB would offer $500 to spend on these phones when joining Telstra on 65/Month plan for 12 Months (Similar to iPhone 11 Offer)?

EDIT - People not appreciating my honesty.

The title should be changed to coupon rather than a gift card. A true gift card would allow you to buy Google Play gift cards. This coupon does not (from the JB Hi-Fi e-mail I got about this offer):

Instore customers: Coupon code will be sent via SMS to the customer within 10 days of collection.
Online customers: Coupon code will be sent via email to the customer within 10 days of online pre-orders being completed.

It's quite common that you are no longer able to purchase gift cards using a gift card as payment, the same goes for all major retailers.

      • +1

You can buy Google Play gift cards with a JB Hi-Fi gift card*. You can't with a JB Hi-Fi coupon. Furthermore, JB Hi-Fi gift cards have an expiry date of 99 years (or no expiry date depending on how you look at it).

The Harvey Norman equivalent offer is looking more attractive now …

*Well I haven't done it in a while, but happy to go and use one in my wallet that I got for my birthday last year to test it out …

        • JB Hi-Fi gift cards have an expiry date of 99 years

          Sorry. I misunderstood your post.

    • That's weird, the JB Hifi website says Online customers get gift cards and In store customers get the coupon. Confusing..

    • The title should be changed to coupon rather than a gift card.

      Yep, you’re right. My mistake.

Meh, the discount is pretty light, I'll wait for Black Friday sales or Christmas rush for better discount (historically speaking)

There is no Unlimited Storage at original quality back up to Google Photos…

    • So I did some digging into this because I was also disappointed. However I found out that high quality compressed photos and videos only occur when greater than 16mp and 1080p. The pixel can't exceed this quality unless it's a panoramic. Normal photos and videos shouldn't compress. Am I right?

      • +1

Google will additionally compress both photos and videos when you're using High Quality mode. On a big screen, this is quite noticeable. This is why I always keep original Videos and Photos on my NAS.

Google should not have removed storing original photos/videos feature as it was such a distinct and popular feature.

    2800 mAh battery
    no headphone jack
    no fingerprint sensor
    no expandable storage

    into
    the
    trash
    it
    goes

They must really hate my money at this point. Look like its Asia that is getting my money (again)

"no headphone jack" LOL Move on this notion it's 2019.

Wired headphones deliver better sound quality over bluetooth models.

Every tested bluetooth codec had problems with the quality of audio streaming, while wired headphones consistently deliver a perfect audio signal.

Suppose you play games with a bluetooth mouse, over wifi as well.

        • +3

Wireless gaming nice and keyboards are becoming more common, as they can offer very low ms input lag. I imagine comparable Bluetooth sound quality will not be far behind, but there will also be people that dislike change and remain stuck in their ways.

It will be 50% off 6 months after it comes out, ill wait.

    • Nine months.

      • Either way, is it worth buying one of these things at launch? Out of all the major phone manufactures, these probably lose value the quickest.

        • +2

The thing is you can keep on waiting and never buy. Or you can wait 9 months for a half price sale only to be tempted to wait out and see what the next model has that might keep you to wait for its release and buy that instead.

          • @Trishool: My current phone (galaxy s8) is only 2.5 years old and can still do everything, so even waiting for the pixel 5 to go half price wouldn't be an issue.

    • +2

In your dreams. It took 1 year for the pixel 3 to reach ~40% off. 50% off in 6 months is a massive overestimation.

  • what else in the android release calendar should i be looking at instead of the pixel 4.

Currently have a xiaomi mi mix 2s and I'm getting really tired of the xiaomi bugs.

    • +2

you won't get better than Pixel for software TBH. Otherwise the Samsung S11 next year.

      • +1

yea, i bought my wife the pixel 3a and i love it.

        • -4

          What relevance does that have?

    • How about the new upcoming phone from Essential? :p

      https://www.thurrott.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2019/10/…

(btw, I have the first Essential phone and it's been great, especially on the software update side of things - we get updates as quick as the Pixel does)

      • Not sure how that would work in a vast number of apps, but i kinda like it :)

  • I wish it was eftpos gift card

Or even a proper JB Hi-Fi gift card …

Trump: We will bring back the businesses and jobs back to America.

Google: Let us fail you again.

  • If I sign up for a plan and get the $400 gift card, can this be combined with the $150 voucher?

    • preordered, they said it does.

  • Is jb providing a gift card with this deal?

      • Jb is advertising the coupon code as a gift card. Is a negative vote for misleading justified?

        • Possibly. I actually voted positive before revoking my vote because it wasn't an actual gift card

          • +2

@kerfuffle: They're calling it a coupon to avoid the minimum 3 year expiry date.

            • @whooah1979: JB Hi-Fi gift cards have no expiry date though (well it expires in 99 years if you check your balance the day after you get it).

Between this and Harvey Norman, I'd rather go for the Harvey Norman one as at least that's an actual gift card …

  • Where is the 128gb oh so orange Pixel 4/xl? Love the colour but i don't want to get the 64gb version.

    • Yes! Love the orange but neeed 128gb!

  • Also looks like this are no longer available to order for delivery - unsure if all stock is spoken for or is pre orders are closed.

    • I would say they either ran out of stock or have paused delivery so they can prep the current orders for release. Leaning more towards the latter as the 128 XL white is missing from the site but others are still there, that would tell me just the white is out of stock.

  • Why does sending a gift card take so long after collecting the phone. 2 weeks for online order is quite too long a wait. Was thinking of buying some stuff before an upcoming trip .

    • Does JB have a return policy?

  • Anyone else get an email from JB advising they can't fulfill the order? They've offered $200 off one of the other models.

    • Yep, I managed to go to a store to replace it but missed out on the $200 discount. Hopefully will have the gift cards soon, have you received yours yet?

      • Ended up getting a refund and purchasing it from another retailer.

  • Anyone else still waiting on the gift cards?

    • I got mine on that day. Turns out to be a gift card that doesn't expire

  • Pre-ordered online for in-store pickup and just got my e-gift card a few days ago.

It seems that the gift card doesn't expire and no mention that it has to be used in a single transaction. Has anyone else tried to purchase anything below $150 and can confirm that the remaining amount doesn't get forfeited?
