eBay Australia: 12% Cashback @ Cashrewards (No Cap, No Min Spend, Includes Officeworks, Desktop Browser, Excludes Coupons)

7340

Hi all. As you're probably aware, we recently re-launched eBay Australia on desktop browsers (mobile & app coming soon). We’ve increased Cashback to 12% (up from 1%) with no minimum spend and no cap, starting at 7:45am AEDT. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the terms below, as there are certain exclusions and caveats.

Even though discount coupons are excluded, the great thing here is that cashback applies to stores that normally don’t participate in eBay promos such as Officeworks & Bunnings. And yes, eBay gift cards are OK to use as payment. Please note that eBay tracking is not instant and transactions may take up to 4 days to appear in your Cashrewards account. Increase ends 11:59pm AEDT. Enjoy :)

eBay Australia Cashback Terms:

  • Until further notice, Cashback on eBay AU is available only when shopping via a desktop browser. Cashback is ineligible if shopping via the mobile site, the Cashrewards app, or the eBay app.
  • Cashback is ineligible if discount coupons or promo codes are applied to any transaction.
  • Cashback is eligible on purchases paid with gift cards.
  • Cashback is ineligible on items purchased from the following categories: Gift Cards, Vouchers, Coupons, Charity & Non-Profit, eBay Plus Memberships, eBay Motors, Boats, Cars, Bikes, Stamps, Tickets, Coins, Money, Gold Bullion, Travel, Services, Real Estate.
  • Cashback is ineligible if you add items to your eBay watch list and purchase or bid more than 24 hours later.
  • Cashback is ineligible on auctions won with bid sniping tools.
  • Do not click on advertising banners or sponsored links on the eBay website - this may result in not earning Cashback.
  • If anything within a basket is unpaid or returned, Cashback for the whole basket will be declined.
  • Sales values are calculated based on currency conversions provided by eBay. Cashback is based upon these reported values.

There's something in it for everyone, but if you don't want the cash back then don't use it

      • +6

      • +1

Another post that members are not allowed to downvote, unlike this comment.

    • -1

What do you mean? I just clicked the "-" to check what you said, and I could downvote it just fine!?

    • Oh, you need to revoke your positive vote to neg it……..or apparently not….

You have already voted on this deal. Your vote was subsequently revoked.

  • +1

Is the shipping cost included in cashback, or just the item cost?

    • Just the item cost(excluding any GST or other taxes as well), whether or not that's based on the foreign currency or the converted currency to AUD, I'll find out…

  • +3

Has anyone received the 12% Shopback one from Single day? Mine still shows calculating.

    • +2

Calculating is bad news, you'll get nothing.

    • +2

Same with me, I bought the new Pixel 4XL and expecting to get around $130 Cashback.
      Still waiting "calculating" and "pending".
Maybe Cashback is hoping we'll forget, just like that friend everyone has that only returns stuff when you ask several times for it!!

absolute rubbish contacted op and cashrewards thru there trash email system finally a response with

I have checked the document that you sent and I have noticed that you sent a copy of your Paypal invoice, unfortunately, the Paypal invoice may not display all the information required to further investigate your transaction. Do you mind sending a full copy of your email order confirmation from the store. This documentation should display your order number, order date and payment information. This information is vital for our team to track down this transaction.

Thanks a lot for your understanding, I look forward to hearing back from you.

      Sincerely,
      Jaimelyn

Anyone had success claiming cashback from mobile using the "desktop site" function in Chrome?

    • +2

      Yes, multiple times

      • Great thanks for the confirmation!

    • +1

Doesn't seem to work for me, button is crossed out in mobile chrome with desktop mode active.

  • +60

Cashback is ineligible if discount coupons or promo codes are applied to any transaction.

Does anyone buy from eBay without a code? I can't remember the last time I purchased anything without a code

    • Maybe some non ozbargainers do

    • +15

Usually all those cheap items from China are ineligible for coupons so this is good for them.

      • +7

And auction items from private sellers

      • +2

so I suppose we are really talking about couple of dollars :)

        • +3

well, the 12% cashback will 'offset' the GST that gets charged.

( i just find it interesting that even second-hand items from outside-of-Australia gets charged a Goods & Services Tax, if shipped to Australia )

          • @whyisave: somne of the items from US is way more than 10% charge. An clothing item I watched and then when I add to cart, it adds 23% to total costs (item + shipping) as other charges.

            • @JCRALLYART: it's probably because those sellers in U.S. use eBay's Global Shipping Fulfilment program.

they don't know how NOT to use eBay and do things for themselves.

          • +1

@whyisave: and makes you wonder if our ato does collect gst charged to us by those outside australia

            • @EarthMan: the primary purpose of adding GST to imports was to give Gerry Harvey a fighting chance against imported goods.

          • +1

@whyisave: It would be more interesting to know if eBay actually passes that on or do they pocket that portion?

        • We are talking about $$$ * 0.12 amount of $$

    • Me neither..

    • +10

this is better than a code if you can take advantage of price guarantees. ebay has I think 48 hours, if you find it cheaper on an approved list of retailers they will refund you the difference. Cashback will count as a full price purchase.

If you have a CC with price protection, even better. Next time ebay does 20% off, you get to claim the full difference since cashback doesn't count as a discount.

      • +1

Does price guarantee / price protection work with promo codes?

        • For my credit card, yes.

          • @lostn: which credit card is this?

            • @rdhupar: 28 degrees

              • @lostn: really? How do you provide proof of reduced price? screenshot? Will have to get on to it for next time.

                • @rdhupar: Yes, if they ask for it.

I don't know if the price protection perk is still open to new cardholders. I have never read their revised T&Cs. It's possible that they discontinued it.

I'm grandfathered in, so I will never cancel my card.

                  • +1

@lostn: Still there. Improved to 12 months now. Been on it for a long time as well.

                    • @rdhupar: I got a bit excited about this, especially with their zero fees until I read their insurance page:

"SHOPPER'S PROTECTION FOR EXISTING POLICY HOLDERS
Existing policy holders can find product information below. Note, we are not currently issuing new policies."

I'll have a hunt around and see if anyone else is doing a similar card.

              • @lostn: Wow so pay with PayPal for an eBay purchase and when there’s a coupon that works for your item you can claim the difference?

                • +2

                  @cooni: yes. It's what I do.

If you have cashbacks for the initial purchase, that is better than an immediate discount coupon because those don't count as discounts.

And if there are any redemption deals (including manufacturer cashback) you get to keep these even when the price is discounted later but the redemption is no longer being offered.

So let's say a new Samsung product is releasing. There's always a free gift with preorders. But if you buy on Samsung EPP, you get 20% off but no gift. You can buy it at RRP instead, get your gift, then claim the 20% price protection through price matching with EPP. So you get the best of both worlds.

                  • @lostn: Can you pay using the 28 degrees card via PayPal and still make claims?

      • Ooh awesome thanks this has been what I have been trying to find out. So essentially I can purchase from ebay, get the 12% cashback and get ebay to pricematch from Amazon?

Tried asking ebay chat but they gave me such a vague answer I didn't dare take the risk.

        • +1

Yep I did this last week

        • +1

bonus.. if you have a CC with price protection you can double dip by getting ebay's credit as well as your CC's refund.

But ebay's window is very short.

    • +2

Sitewide codes are becoming less frequent in preference for “select seller” codes

      • +3

i haven't seen a truly sitewide code in a very long time. It's only 'eligible' items now.

        • it's more like 'eligible people'.

it all depends on the seller/buyer and their buy/sell-reputation.

    • Am going to do it now on officeworks

    • I have had this in my watch list forever - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323984282344

finally just purchased, as the best it ever allowed was a 3% or 5% off code.

It was already the cheapest, now with the 12% cashback I am a happy vegemite.

  • +1

    includes Coles eBay store?

  • Does anyone know if there is a 10-15% off sitewide in early December?

    • +6

My crystal ball say it does, so better hold off and stock up eBay gift card.

    • Sorry, I'm sworn to secrecy.

    • +3

According to the animal's entrails in front of me, there will be a 15% off site-wide on 04th Dec 2019, starts at 10:00 AM. However, the tea leaves on the bottom of my mug contradicts this and says it will be on 11th Dec 2019. Take these tips as you wish.

    • +1

Last year there was a 15% off ebay sale on the day prior to black friday.

Can't remmember if it ebay plus exclusive though.

  • sad these are excluded eBay Motors, Boats, Cars

    • +14

i was looking to buy real estate.

      12% man.

      • +1

        Lol… Imagine buying a house on ebay…

        • +1

I'm imagining it right now. Or I was until I read their T&C.

        • +1

you know, i always wished that houses WERE sold on eBay.

that would force everyone to put in their bids, before the clock ran out.

have you see how real-world auctions are run at properties?
the auctioneer waits and waits and waits, uses delay tactics during the auction.

          • +2

@whyisave: Market was pretty slow when I bought my first home.
Yeah, been to some of those auctions. Expected a bloodbath but I got stand up comedy and awkward silence

  • +5

Are Car parts included like wheels, tyres, brakes, exhausts? Thanks

    • +1

It looks like "Vehicle Parts & Accessories" are a separate category to "eBay Motors, Boats, Cars, Bikes".
      Can OP confirm?

  • Going to give the competition a chance to respond. But otherwise good deal.

  • +2

Actually this is decent now at 12%. Given the 20% off price jacking of most stores during eBay 'sales', you may be able to find decent discounts on certain products from their normal (pre-jacked) prices, especially things like PC parts.

    • +2

      It'll be 1% tomorrow, but the terms won't change…

      • +1

Oh only temporary? lame my bad.

  • +1

Now it says bikes aren’t included. Is this just motorbikes or are pushbikes included too?

    • I'd like confirmation of this too, I have a $6000 mountain bike I want to get, but only if the cashback is going to work.

  • +1

Really makes it tough on you and the consumers given that ebay is working around the idea that coupons use is built into the price these days.
I appreciate the promotion though and hope i can use it.

  • Noo just bought a UPS last night :(

    • +2

      Without code?

      • +7

Phew just saw its ineligible with promo code applied :) thanks for making me feel better haha!

    • What model, if you don't mind me asking?

      • +1

picked up the CyberPower Value 1200VA from CA with the 20% off code

  • Now the question is how can I get some discounted eBay gift cards today? :P

  • +2

"This store is available only via a desktop browser."

If you see this message on your desktop browser, try making the font smaller or the window bigger. Their mobile vs desktop browser check isn't working so well.

    Also this:

"Cashback is ineligible if you add items to your eBay wish list and purchase or bid more than 24 hours later.
    "

What if it's been in my shopping cart? Can I still get the cashback, or would it work if I remove and re-add it? I'm a bit unclear on the meaning of wishlist here.

    • Remove it and add it to cart only after clicking through from cashrewards

    • Please see here.

  • +6

Cashback is ineligible if you add items to your eBay wish list and purchase or bid more than 24 hours later.

Waaah. So all the items on my wishlist are ineligible for cashback? :'(

    • +1

Wow so random. You can't buy anything you want basically.

    • I think I messaged them about this and wish list was differentiated from watch list somehow.

    • +1

I guess this can be read two ways. I take it to mean: "Don't click through from Cashrewards, add items to your wish list, and wait 24 hours before actually buying/paying." (Add items to the shopping cart and buy right after it, in other words.) Not sure which it is, now.

Then there's the confusion between wish list and watch list. No idea how to read that one. But it seems it's safest to have two ebay accounts: one only to list watched items, the other to buy them. Or list them in a text file from now on, LOL.

      • Best is to always add items to cart after you click from Cashrewards. And apologies with the confusion around wish/watch list. Typo in the terms that's now been corrected.

        • +1

It seems a few people are confused whether that means you won't receive cashback if an item was already in your watch list 24 hours ago. Is that correct? If it does mean that, can we just remove it from our watch list, click through CR to ebay, find the same item on ebay again, add it to the shopping cart and checkout - and we will receive cashback then?

          • +4

@GregMonarch: That's 100% correct re over 24 hours, it won't commission. The safest procedure, irrespective of time in watch list:

            (1) Remove the item from your watchlist
            (2) Click out from Cashrewards
            (3) Search for the item
            (4) Add to cart
            (5) Check out
