        Here you go!
        https://imgur.com/a/B1sAJvb
Edit: there's a SATA connector with a ribbon cable in the hdd kit in the box, which is why you won't see the SATA port in the photo

        • Great!
          Appreciate your effort here!

    • +1

      Does the NVMe look replaceable?

      • Certainly does, I've just posted a photo above

    • Does it have a TPM chip? (Look in device manager under security devices)

    • Max RAM is 12GB (adding an 8GB to the only slot).

I love it so far. I'm about to see if I can get Mint dual-installed on a 240GB Kingston SSD. Unfortunately, I have no sound, wifi, nor touchpad in the live version. Might better go have a look for the drivers before I commit- lol.

  • I'm in! Been looking for a work laptop— good specs, not too heavy, not too expensive.

Just spoke to sales at Harvey's and was told it's regular price is $800+ and that Acer are taking the loss for this sale.

    Thank you, OP!!!

    • I doubt its $800 given its a basic i3 dual core and the 128gb ssd is a closeout… however the fact it has 8Gb in a 2 x 4 fashion and its ips and you have an internal 2.5 bay for upgrades and it has a lit kbd…

I bought one as a spare and will most likely just slap in a 240gb ssd as a storage drive.

12hrs max means its almost a full day laptop.

Seems to be lots of stock at the smaller stores so its a 10 min drive.

I put mine on high performance when on battery and it was down to 20% in a couple of hours

      • From their website:

        https://www.acer.com/ac/en/AU/content/models/laptops/aspire5

        Acer doesn't even show this one. They have an i3, but it's 1366 x 768 & a HDD vs. SSD. It's $799. So, I'd say $800+ sounds correct.

        • Box from HN has the price tag.. $849.00 :)

  • Thanks Op I hesitated at first and then got one reserved at Caringbah ( a bit drama there) but finally got it still in box have been so busy all day/
This 10th gen i3 better be good, good to me, better be good, good to me.

Well actually anything is good to me coming from Celeron try 32 gigs rom but on a HDMI to a FHD no games strictly admin machine, still. Managed to get Windows 10 updates…don't ask me how. Thank you Latitude pay.

As an aside thank gawd i did not succumb to Surface Go Gold LTE at 799 without keyboard though it was a steal, sheeple queuing to get it at Microsoft store.

  • Looking at:
    https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/a…
it would seem there is 4GB soldered and 4GB in a slot.

Although 12GB is an option (4GB + 8GB) it appears you can (4GB + 16GB) if you so need.

The above link also advanced SSD options to swap out the M.2, but I see little point given what
has been said about there being a vacant space for a conventional SSD.

Obviously those price are USD$, but the RAM and/or SSD’s available locally.

    • yeah i would do the 2.5 bay, even slap in a spare 500-1tb hdd however the ram is a waste of time given that you're going to run out of cpu before you exhaust the 8gb already there.

      • +1

Depends on the programs you are running. Things like Google Chrome tabs will take a lot of RAM but not necessarily a lot of CPU. As someone else pointed out in the comments this i3 CPU is as powerful as a 7th gen i7 laptop

  • Can anyone please comment on the sound quality of the speakers? Thank you.

    • +1

Strong for the size, I'd say. Best speakers I've heard on a smallish laptop are the ones on my daughter's Yoga 460.

  • The specs on the Harvey Norman page say Fingerprint Scanner and AX Wifi. Mine has no fingerprint scanner and only has up to AC WiFi

    • It also shows the wrong laptop- lol. Go Harvey!

    • Same.. still good

    • I think it does have AX.

The sticker says AC, but the drivers show AX.

Only got 50MB/sec when transferring from another PC that's on the LAN via Gigabit ethernet

  • My order got canceled for some reason… but CC charged.. :/ guess I have to go through the help lines now

  • +2

I think the sticker is wrong as It does in fact have WI-FI 6 AX as showed on the system information and under network adapters on device manager but no fingerprint scanner to be seen.
This is a value for money laptop and highly recommended for the price grab it if you can.

    • Yep. I have an AX router, but don't seem to be getting AX speeds.

  • How does this compare to those cheaper Chinese laptops like the chuwi lapbook pro and Jumper brands? They use intel gemini lake processors.
The school for the byod is saying an i3 processor as the bare minimum.

    • +4

ACER is really good i have one thats over 7 years old and works fine.

This i3-10110U is faster then most i7's from only a year or so ago.
That school knows nothing! the iGPU alone is 100% faster
Comet Lake IPC is 15% more per Mhz then the 7-7660U.. :) do the maths. This CPU is king vs the old mobile intel stuff that are also slowed down by more software security patches then this is. Mobile Zen2 will be faster if clocked the same but at the moment this 10th gen is top dog in mobiles

      • Thanks for the info

      • Finally a laptop CPU, at a decent price, that's not anemic, low-powered 1.2Ghz. WTH is that about?

Happy to have it, though was another gaff by HN and took me half a day to drive to get it after they didn't know where my order was….

Great little machine once you debloat & turn off WU!

Next is the SSD w/a Linux Mint dual-boot. I did notice issues booting a USB of 19.1. No touch pad (mouse works), no sound, + no wifi. Hopefully, it'll get fixed up in the next release?

        ;)

Does anyone ever buy extended warranty? I've had lots of issues with poor battery life not long after purchase. Would extended warranty guarantee against this?

    • Nuh…

      Battery is a consumable.

      Thanks for playing.

  • Does this have an SD card slot?

    • No, but it has 3 USB ports and a USB Type C port.

  • +2

Looks like it’s sold out everywhere in Sydney stores, I could only grab the last one which was a display stock for $468 at Auburn store.

  • Thanks bought one i will pick up Thursday when im back from Philippines I was in the the middle of paying with zip pay the other night on Amazon and stock ran out .Been hoping they got more stock to save 10% but don't look like it anytime soon. Will claim trs end of January.

    • Says my order is being reviewed I'm overseas and had VPN set to Brisbane hope it goes well through.

  • Anyone tried any games?

I tried fortnite and could only play in low presets and 30fps

Tried Rime and that was just horrible :)

I couldn't find any Intel GPU settings. I tried installing the latest drivers from Intel and it said that it was validated to be installed on this device or something

    • +1

If you want to game on this laptop try solitaire or minesweeper.

      • +1

        Not true.

The CPU is decent so works fine on 2d games like Rayman Legends, Slay the Spire, Guacamelee, etc

    • The OEMs are using DCH drivers now which means they can't install control panels or config tools into your Windows install. You have to go through the metro start menu and look for the Intel metro app, if you don't have it you might have to download it from Microsoft Store. It's more limited in what you can configure than the previous video driver system, but this is how Microsoft want it going forwards.

      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/intel-graphics-command-cen…

Here is the download for the Intel GPU settings

  • Decided to take the plunge. Not much stock left in Brisbane. Some left at Oxley and Browns Plains stores. Be quick!

  • Very good specs on this pc for price point, also weight/usability.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if it is actually 1.8kg as advertised? Looking at other models of the Aspire 5, they all seem to be lighter. Seems on the heavy side for a 14" with no dedicated GPU

    • +2

It actually felt lighter than that in store when I checked it out.
Hopefully someone who has it in home can throw it on the scales for you.

    • +2

It weighs 1.535kg. Maybe they put the power adapter as the extra weight.

      • Great news, many thanks

  • Bought 2! One for me and one for the parents. Perfect specs and great value for everyday use. Even with changing/adding another ssd, it’s still very cheap!
    Thanks for the post.

  • +2

Had this for a few days - not convinced the build quality is great, but the specs are remarkable for $488.
A couple of quirks with drivers after completely wiping and installing a fresh version of Windows 10. For anyone interested:
    1. trackpad - needs the installation of IO drivers from Acer site (download driver, expand to hard drive, run install.cmd from administrator command prompt). The trackpad will not work with default drivers even though device manager shows no errors and after running .inf setup utility.
    2. sleep function - needs the installation of Rapid Storage Technology application/driver from Intel support site (didn't have any luck with version provided on Acer support site).

    • I'm not having any trackpad issues, but I am having wifi issues.

The driver keeps getting an error and I have to disable and re-enable the wifi adapter.

  • Anyone else having issues with the wifi driver?

Every now and then my wifi dies, I check device manager and the driver has an error. Disabling and re-enabling the device fixes it for a while

    • I have exactly the same issue. WiFi dropped during setup then once all complete it’ll cut in and out every few seconds then decide no network is available after 30 seconds. Been on with Acer support 3 times troubleshooting. I’ve reinstalled drivers multiple times, done a fresh install without any joy. In the end they said take it back and get another one. Did that this afternoon…same issue with the replacement! Going through the troubleshooting hoops again now. Receipt shows they are both same batch# which is 619309110. Not sure if yours is the same.

      • No issues at all with wifi. I would guess the AX 160 card might have some issue with some APs… I'm using the Razor 1733 thing.

        • My issue is not with connecting.

The driver shows an error in device manager

    • Exact same issue here.
WiFi dropped during setup, continued setup without a connection then once finished device manager reports driver issues.

have you had any more luck with different drivers?

      • No luck for me. Booked it in for repair with Acer so they are picking it up tomorrow.

        • I've found my issue is when I connect to a 5ghz network, connecting to the standard 2.4ghz of same network, the card has remained solid for a couple of days now.

Disappointing but if that's what it takes for mine, I can live with that rather than stuffing about taking it back or being without it again.

After installing a fresh copy of windows I started getting the blue screen stopcode at start up, so every time I turn the laptop off and on It happens and also I had an issue with the trackpad which has been solved after installing the fresh copy of windows and using the old drivers that came with the laptop which I backed up earlier.

    • +1

Use the older intel storage drivers on the acer website. Had the same issue on my swift 5.

    It's $849 now!

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-5-14-inch-i3-101…

Great bargain for those of us who got it. Thanks OP!

  • All the shilly sheeps who did not buy this it is now $845

  • $849 now but seems to be sold out at least in QLD, NSW & VIC. I put an order in on Tuesday evening and I haven't received notice that it's shipped yet

    • +1

After looking at it in store (while there was still 1 in stock) I baulked due to no numpad, then rethought it and decided it was too good a laptop at that price to pass on it, only for the stock to be sold out.

Bought a Bluetooth numpad off of eBay, and now waiting for Harvey Norman to tell me my laptop order is in for pickup.

They're still available online for order though so not too worried they'll cancel my order.

From my email to their support:

"This SKU # NX.HLZSA.001 (A514-52-37XQ W10SHML64MGF3AAU1E) has 4GB memory on-board (non-removable) as well as one dim for additional memory.

The dim slot supports either 4 or 8gb SO-DIMM DDRIV 2666. Photo of the memory slot is shown below though we do not provide instructional assistance or guidance to customers wishing to carry out upgrades themselves.

With respect to his hyper threading question, currently we don’t have any information need to requested to HQ.

(I asked maximum RAM because if 4GB is one type/speed, then adding the max to the 2nd slot might be better @4GB than 8GB. They didn't even answer max RAM, though. Sigh…)

    Have a good day.

    Regards,
    The Acer Store Team
Acer Computer Australia & New Zealand"

    • If there's only one slot available then the maximum should be 36gb using a 32gb sodimm

  • For those wondering, on boot, to a live USB, Linux Mint 19.1 did not have working wifi, sound, nor touchpad. I was only in for a few minutes and noticed, however I didn't install known "interpreters", so I feel fairly confident all will come good. Just an FYI. It's running the 10th Gen. i3-10110U, which has favourable reviews.

Had a couple of stores say the reg. retail was $849. Chuffed I was able to snag it. Now, post set-up of 10, I'm de-bloating & shutting off WU. Next, install SSD w/provided caddy (thank you, Acer, for doing something that costs little, but is HUGELY beneficial to many people. A round of sincerest applause, for Acer! :)

    • Instead of shutting off WU just install Windows 10 Pro and you can set it to delay updates by however many days. I set mine to a fortnight delay since the issues get resolved before then. Never a good idea to run an outdated OS.

  • I hate to say it but this is an amazing laptop for the money… all I did to mine is slap in a spare 240gb ssd… I'm not sure I'd bother upgrading the memory… runs fine on 8Gb.

The battery is AMAZING if you do the minimum like turn down the screen and the kbd.

Downsides is the kbd and touchpad arent amazing but I use a mouse and sometimes a usb kbd anyway.

The wireless is great… 650-867 maxxed out on my AP. Screen is sharp as and great colours.

Also the weight and thin-ness is right. Lots of ports.

Does it charge off the Type C? I'm scared to plug it in. The std Acer image isnt too bad either.

Also note there's a new bios (v1.09) upgraded fine.

HN excelled this time. I think Gerry kicked in a fair bit for us this Xmas!

    • Where can I get the new bios?

  • Hi everyone,

I decided to Google "Acer cashback" and there seems to be an active cashback going.

Trouble is, I can't seem to get the online check to verify my SNID number. If I check the no. on their regular site (drivers), my unit pops right up with that same SNID.

Can someone else here try to see if you can get yours to go through? I cannot find anything which shows me which models get the cashback (doesn't show up for me). I tried other browsers, same thing.

Additionally, I cannot get through to their "helpdesk", the link goes to "page not found".

I called their hotline— which is so busy, I got put through to some first-line guy who took my details & gave a reference no for the call. I'm "supposed" to get a call back later on.

    http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…

PS: SNID is on the back of the laptop, not on the box, as their site says.

    Ta!

    • +1

      Same experience for me.

  • +1

Can the OZB mods have a look for the rest of us? Maybe you have more pull than us?

I'd be happy to know if my model is even a part of the cashback? I can't get that.

I called Ombudsman & they're looking into it. How ridiculous that the FB chat people "know" something, but refuse to connect me with anyone?
