I have this phone and for this price. I would take this over the Pixel 3A.

    • -1

I have the 3a XL and was thinking of buying another for the missus, but $649 was just a little higher than I wanted to spend. I'll have to go check this one out (I've had a couple of Oppos before and thought they were decent budget-to-mid range phones)

      • Two potential gotchas I found:
-It has a glass back, I actually prefer plastic as it's more robust for clumsy people like me
-It has a goofy looking pop up camera. Moving parts are a no-no for reliability -ie how long before that breaks?

        • +3
          1. a good cover wont break the glass back

2.the Front camera is rated for 170000 Cycle (up and down - 1 cycle).. the questions is how much Selfie cam do u use daily?. and do u want to use face unlock or not.. if both of this question answer to NO.. then is will last more than 5 years…

          • +1

@echocae: Even if you take 100 selfies daily, it will last over 4 years.

            • @cycleri3: exactly…thats what im trying to say… hehhe.. so is No Issue..

but not only selfie.. face unlock will use selfie too..

            • +9

@cycleri3: Dealbreaker over here, minimum 500 selfies a day for me. I'm a very famous and important instagram influencer

              /s

        • +10

The upside to the pop-up camera is that there's no stupid f$&king notch ruining the symmetry of the screen.

        • +2

Any smartphone camera that has optical zoom has moving parts …

          • -4

@Diji1: Not really - they are fixed lense

      • Oppo has come a long way. I was pleasant surprised on how far Oppo has progressed over the years. This phone with Office work price beat is way better than buying a Pixel 3A. More versatile camera, faster charging, bigger battery and more memory for apps.

Gaming on this phone is much better. My Pixel 3A I had was laggy on Pokemon GO.

  • +1

Don't forget 5% off with suncorp benefits, jbhifi gift cards!

  • Great find, OP - thanks!

  • +1

How does this compare with the Mi 9T Pro?

They both seem to have the same sized battery, 8GB RAM, top CPU, in-screen fingerprint and popup selfie camera.
Differences would likely be camera quality, UI, Fast charging speed and a local power plug with this one.

    • +2

oppo V Mi 9T Pro… on my opinion
      camera Oppo so much better
      Video Oppo So much better
      UI : I like Mi
      Fast Charge : Oppo
      SD support: Oppo
      SOC: Mi
      Os/Sec Update: Mi
      Warranty: Oppo

    • +1

9T Pro has the far superior CPU (438k v 213k on antutu)
They both use the same Samsung main camera sensor (IMX586).
Then it's the MIUI v ColorOS debate.

      • +2

honestly i use a redmi note 3 on the side as a backup phone few months ago, and i can do everything on it, including gaming.. im pretty damn sure the helio p90 is way better than that, specs arent everything real world performance is different, if you are just running speed test to see which is higher in numbers.. who cares? if its smooth at what you use it for without lag, that is what matters.

        • I have the 9T - it's SD730 is similar to the P90. I agree that in every day usage there isn't much of a diff BUT Nukkels asked for a comparison and point of diff … and the SD855 is the far superior chip on paper (maybe less so in daily use but still superior).

        • Hi Striker,
          What is a backup phone?

          • +5

@exxonsign: same as a backdown phone, only goes the other way

          • +1

@exxonsign: "A backup phone" is a term used as an excuse to buy a second phone, also known as "cousin's Christmas present" or "just in case if my wife's drops hers on a tile floor".

      • Correction - meant to say Sony

    • The better comparison is the Mi 9T, for price and specs. The SD730 in the Mi 9T is a bit snappier (Mrs w has the first Reno Z). Cameras close run thing. Miui updates quicker than Color OS. I don't/she doesn't like either of them, we use the Poco launcher in both.

The killer punch - if photography your thing - for the Mi 9T is using a GCam APK. In difficult low light (eg a concert), Mi 9T a degree better, especially video.

Can't get a 128Gb Mi 9T from an Australian seller anywhere near this price - the Reno2 Z is a killer price.

      • You can get the 9T pro 128Gb for ~$510 on eBay - though that is grey import of course.

  • specs seem very decent for 426 OW price match

  • Could be a price error… get it now!

  • +1

MTK SoC. That's why it's cheap. All the other specs look pretty impressive though

    • -2

      Sht CPU

      • The Pixel 3A is even crappy. Can't even speed catch on Pokemon Go. I sold it and decided to keep this phone as my secondary phone.

        • What is speed catching and why does this sound hilarious?

    • Speedy mtk though.

  • Partner has this phone. It’s really great for the price. Night/lowlight shots are amazing. Expandable storage and headphone jack are two great bonus features other phone manufacturers often fail to include.

For anyone who has today's Amex Myer offer - head into Myer to purchase Coles Myer GC and pay for the phone at officeworks - additional $80 saving (depending on what offer you get)

    • Didn't know you could use Coles Myer at office works still…

    • Really want to thank you for this tip, did it today!

      • Glad I could help!

  • -6

I think Oppo is trying so hard naming their phone P90 as in higher number than Huawei P30

    In their dreams….

    • -1

You're talking as if a hauwei phone is some Galaxy 10. Oppo, hwauei or whatever it's called are all on the same bucket, except for one of them is a sellout to the chinese authoritarian regime and will stop receiving support from Google shortly. One should be an idiot to buy it.

      • One, where's the evidence for Huawei doing anything, and two, GOOGLE ACTUALLY DID what you are accusing Huawei of doing.

        https://www.yahoo.com/news/google-facebook-cooperated-nsa-pr…

You are brainwashed to the point of not living in reality.

        • I never said anything about Google, so what's with that?! I know Google and a number of others regularly sells out to the authoritarianism as well, but that's sidelining my point. Are you aware of the simple fact that hawuei is by law expected to give away any information that's required of them by the authoritarian regime?

    • +5

the MTK P90 is the name of the system-on-a-chip that it's running, the phone model name is just called Reno 2z.

  • So Oppo's quality is good compare to the flagship brands? Want to ask my friend to get me the Gundam version of Reno Ace from overseas

    • +1

I don't think Reno Ace has band 28 yet

      • But Telstra sim will still work, right? Will I lose 4G if using this phone here?

        • I think there might be some issues with frequency inside buildings and rural areas or something similar. If it wasn't for the missing band 28, I reckon the reno ace would have been the best value for money phone with the most advanced specs

          • @ln28909: Ok Thx! if inside buildings may have reception issues then no good to spend A$800 on it, can save my $$$ now …

            • @kaikor: May have. I have used phones with and without b28, in buildings and have not had issues. Rural areas may be different. Better to ask if someone to compare in your usage environment what reception is like

  • +1

How is the camera compared to pixel 3a?

  • +1

About to buy this and realize after some comparison with my current S8 the upgrade not much >.<
Its only better camera, bigger ram and storage but S8 still outperform in screen resolution, cpu performance, weight, download speed and other connectivity even though its 2 years old phone.

    • yeh i was suprised by this, phones havn't improved rapidly from 2016—>2020 like 2012—->2016

  • Great spec but for those not changing phone every 2nd year, do take note this is a none qualcomm phone with less cistom rom.

  • -4

is this only Bluetooth 4.2? HHAHA

    • read the spec.. is said Bluetooth 5

      • um read again, under "48MP/f1.7 + 8MP/f2.2 + 2MP/f2.4 + 2MP/f2.4 rear cameras" it says Bluetooth v4.2

        typo perhaps?

  • Is that CPU any good? I've only ever had snapdragons in my phones so don't have a clue

  • FYI price goes back up to $599 on Thursday 5th at JB.

    • how do u know? did they said ?

      • It's in the catalogue due out later this week.

  • Black Friday is where all the deals are not End of Financial year, I wonder what Cyber Monday brings?

    Mediatek is meh though

although Color 7 is coming and by all counts, this color is poppin'

  • +1

    ow call centre down?

    • +1

replying to my own comment- was about a 12 min wait - price beat no issues! Ignore the comment you get about systems down and 70 min wait..

      • can u get the price beat on phone and pay on phone?

        • yes- they give it to you immediately, you must pay immediately ( type in card number into phone keypad)
          was 426.55

  • This or LG V40 ThinQ 128GB

    • if same price… Then LG .. if LG little bit more expensive ($100-200) still LG…

if more than 200 then Oppo looking good

      • +1

My Crystal Ball says LG V40 will be on offer on / before boxing day :)

I am sure we all can wait for 3 weeks

      • It's $499 from mobileciti with ebay code right now. V40 has ip68. This one just has some kind of splash protection…?>?

        • I was hoping for a $399 deal like LG V30 plus or LG G7 for boxing day.
Not an unreasonable expectation give that the Note 10 AU stock is almost $800

  • Got one at ow pricebeat, but they have gave me a different model cph1951-LB instead of the cph195au like the one on JB. Can anyone elaborate on the difference. Does it affect bandwidth or anything?

    • is the same

    • Should be the same - oppo website says cph1951..

    • +1

I think LB just refers to it being the Luminous Black

  • I'm a novice with technology, so please bear with me.

Compared to the A70 this phone has 2gb more ram and larger storage.

Are these differences enough to go for a Reno over the A70?

    • Dual sim but no water protection. Depends on your requirements really…

      • I mostly use my phone for basic functions amd a little bit of browsing. I have a Nokia 5.1 plus but it keeps crashing and is generally unpleasant to use.

I just need a reliable phone for the next 2-3 years.

Will the extra ram make a difference down the track?

        • +1

Huge improvement. If the N5.1+ is your starting point, the Reno2 Z will be great for 2 years.

          • @willyroo: I think I will go for it.

            Thanks for the advise willyroo.

      • Thanks for the reply wolfshooter

  • Reno 3 will be released this month. Hole punch screen + 5G. Fire sale incoming.

    • Oppo are always launching a new phone. At least colour OS 7 is coming out q2 2020 next year for this model.

      • 6 months launch

  • Let's talk percentages

  • +1

Nfc? Some sites say no some say yes?

    • Read the Official Spec on description

  • +1

Why wouldn't you just get a Redmi Note 8 pro for like $200 less. It has the better gaming edition of this CPU? Plus a similar camera setup.

    • price reference?

      • Depends where you buy it from. Its a similiar price at JB HiFi but you can get them Xiaomi ebay cheaper when they have the 20% of deal.

        128gb model $335 at Tobydeals.
        https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-…

        • thank you. but that's not $200 cheaper.

          • @MrBillions: I meant the RRP, The Note 8 pro is always this price. They seem like similiar spec phones.

          • @MrBillions: I grabbed the note 8 pro for $250 aud after the cashback comes in.. however I'm still waiting for it to get here from Hong Kong, purchased 11.11

  • +2

    I love anything more cheaper

  • thanks OP - ran straight down to the local Officeworks and got the last one.

  • What's the battery life like? Anywhere to buy office works gift card discounted…?

  • +1

Thanks OP. I also made a beeline to an Officeworks and they grudgingly sold it to me for $426.55. which is what I paid for the Reno Z 6 months ago. Got to say I've been really impressed with the performance of the Z, so I expect the 2Z will be just as good.

    • Another one here who went straight to OW to ask for a pricebeat. I'm currently on a Lumia 950 which I've been using for 3yrs now. MS will discontinue their Windows Phone support at the end of the year and Whatsapp will stop working so I've been looking at Oppo's line up for entry to mid range phones.

I loved the specs on the Reno 2Z but didn't like the $600 price tag… at $426 though, I can stomach it. Looking forward to getting 3-5yrs out of this new phone.
