        • $50 fee, not $50 free

Annual rewards program fee: $0 if you choose Altitude Rewards; $50 if you choose Altitude Velocity or Altitude Qantas

          • @muncan: Honestly I don't think getting the qantas points is worth it- check the fine print, but I think if you don't choose qantas points, you still get the sign up bonus as qantas points? The fee is just for earnt points as qantas. At 1c/point, the 3-4k or whatever you spend is about $30 in points, so you're losing out by paying that fee.

          • @muncan: Haven’t been charged it. Sooo still free at the moment.

          • @muncan: I got the velocity points and have since cancelled the card. Never got charged the $50 ;)

    • +2

      They are not mutually exclusive

      • Well. I probably can’t spend $8k on both too easily.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/474918

        • Whenever I run into this issue I just outsource my spend to family/friends (typically those that don't use credit cards). The pitch to them is you'll be their Afterpay lol (give them a few weeks to pay you) as long as its within the interest free period.

    • Is that an active deal?

  • This is a fantastic deal, thank you for highlighting to us. We need to remember to close the account before the anniversary.

  • +1

This might be a stupid question….. I had a ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card with this deal and cancelled around June : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/422074 - [Point Hacks Exclusive Deal] - 80,000 Bonus Velocity Points with the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Card ($225 Annual Fee)

Does this mean I'm illegible to apply for this card? or are you only illegible if it was a QFF card previously?

    thanks in advance!

    • I'm on the same boat.. Wondering if we can get this deal

      • My understanding and practice before is Adventure card will not impact your eligibility for Qantas rewards black. I am just sharing my experience.

    • yes you can. I have both cards last year

    • +1

You are eligible. T&Cs state which cards make you ineligible. I think this is my third time cycling onto the ANZ black and I've closed the ANZ Travel rewards only in the last year

    • +1

I still have "ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures". I decided to keep as it gives an return flight and two entries to Virgin Lounge. Yes, the annual fee is around $200 but I think the benefits are ok.

Do I need to cancel to be eligible for this Qantas card? I usually prefer Velocity points than Qantas but I think the 120k Qantas points is good enough.

      • No. You are still eligible to apply for this card. I had both cards at one stage.

  • How strict are these usually with their income requirement?

    • You have to give them a copy of your payslips, I was told a from nab a few years ago income requirements exclude overtime, bonuses, etc. That was for a mortgage, but I would imagine its the same.

      • Also according to one of the comments in the previous version of this deal they might also ask for your bank statements to prove you're actually receiving the income stated on your payslips.

  • I once singed up for BankWest's Qantas world card which was $99pa for life came with sign up bonus points (now it is $270pa). I cancelled it after 8 years just last week. I miss it and Wonder if I done the wrong thing.
The benefits that came with it was great. Travel insurance (had a genuine incident during travel and was sorted with no issues). Fraud transactions reimbursed no fuss Price protection. The service on that card was great.. thwy even waived the $99 for when I had lost my job sometime in the middle.
Wonder if I will ever find another one like that..
    This looks like a temporary gain… think I lost a real keeper…

    • +1

What was the reason for cancelling it? Just because it was a good deal doesn't mean you should have one

      • Reason is the annual fee. But wondering if the benefits outweighed.

    • +1

If cancelled within a certain short period, some banks allow to reinstate.

      • So You think its worth going back to it? I think it was a ozbargain deal back in the day.

  • So what's 120k points worth to a non flyer?

    • -3

      $600 in gift vouchers

    • +1

At a minimum $1.2k cash when sold at 1c per point

      • -3

Great! So what's the maximum you'll get when sold at 1c per point.

Something is telling me that it would be……$1.2K also? or am i missing something?

        • The alternative is you can sell them for a maximum of 1.1c/point.

  • Got this a couple months ago too. screeches Ozbargainly

  • Bummer last ANZ card was closed on April, so not yet 12 months

Still have to kill Citi card with annoying marketing 8 got on last deal.

What is next best offer today?

This doesn’t seem too bad from Qantas money - $199 annual fee the 1st year with 2 x lounge passes and 120k points

    • +5

120k points get drip fed to you over 6 months unlike pretty much every other credit card which will give it to you in one big chunk after hitting the minimum spend. Not a fan

      • +1

Yep. Plus it's a $9000 min spend to get those points vs $4000 for this. And you have to do admin to spread the Qantas money spend out over 6 months (6 periods of 1 month each) vs this is just one period of 3 months (so no real admin). And you have to deal with citibank vs ANZ in this (IMHO, ANZ are fine, Citibank are a PITA). And Citibank seem to have weird rules about rejecting people who apply for more than one of their cards or sub-brands of cards in a certain time (e.g. 6 months or 8 months, or something like that - I don't think it's in the T&Cs, but from feedback on this site they seem to reject applications because of it). And with the $275 cashback this effectively has a $150 annual fee vs $199 for Qantas money. So in quite a few ways this is just a better deal.

        • Also, you would need to hold the card for a lot longer… minimum 7-8 months in order to get the last batch of points. As opposed to this ANZ card where (like most other cards) you could hit the spend in the first month and get all the points in the second or third month, then cancel (if you're a churner).

  • $75k income requirement is not mentioned on the site. Wonder if it's worth applying if you're under that?

    • 5yrs ago I included my super amount so my total became $73k and got accepted

Not sure if u can do that now.

    • It's always been the standard for this card. You can try if you're close (I would say within a 1-2k) and don't mind the credit hint

    • mentioned when you press apply

    • I checked with ANZ online a few days ago - they've removed the 75k income requirement.

  • what are the best expenses to put down for the best chance of approval

and if you're just over 75k income is there a good chance of a successful application?

  • Is it a good idea to get a credit card straight after conditional approval?

    • My broker told me its safer to hold off until settlement to avoid any complications, as banks could still audit your application until then.

    • -1

      Not at all!

    • +1

Bad idea. The majority of lenders don't run credit checks until one of the latter steps. If they see that on there they will certainly be asking questions. If the serviceability of the loan is tight this could push it from deal to no deal. You could of course close and provide them the closure letter but what a hassle!

      • Thanks for all the answers :) Really helpful. I will just wait then.

  • Any idea when this expires? Doesn't mention anything in T&C's from what I can see

    • Unknown at this point.

  • The Qantas 75 Status Credit perk gone as well on this.

  • How long do you have to wait if you had it before?

  • +1

Isn’t the Citibank offer better? $49 annual fee first year, though 100k qantas points require higher spend at $5k. The only downside is to have to pay $444 annual fee in the second year in order to receive the second instalment of 50k qantas points

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483082

    • +5

it's citibank so automatically that's a no lol. but if you can, can def qualify for both

    • They're both good, I'd rate them pretty equally.
100 K points (ignore the second year) with $49 annual fee on Citibank, vs 120 K with $150 effective annual fee on ANZ ff Black.
So is 20 K points worth >= $101? The general guideline is to get >= 1.2 cents per point valuation for usage, so that's a reasonable trade-off for purchasing.
If you can, apply for both.
Since the ANZ FF black end date is unknown, and Citibank ends 31 Jan 2020 (can always be withdrawn sooner, but let's assume they use end date in their T&Cs), personally if you can, I would apply for ANZ now, try and get that done over Christmas period, and apply for Citibank around 28 Jan 2020.
Edit: I'm disregarding the dealing with Citibank stuff mentioned above, and just looking at points & cost.

      • +1

yeh offer alone they are both similar. just ANZ >>> citibank

  • Can this work if you already hold an ANZ reward travel adventure card?

    • They are different cards.
Only exclusion on Frequent Flyer Black is holding other Frequent Flyer Cards. No mention of ANZ Reward Travellers.

Other people have mentioned having both cards at same time with both sign-up offers

      • Can confirm eligible to apply if you only have the rewards travel card.

  • What is the general consensus for the optimal number of cards to have for churning between providers?

I have a BW Qantas World ($14K limit) from their recent promo and have got the 90K points already so no real allegiance to stay with them if I don't need to.

I also have a BW Platinum ($6K minimum limit) which I use as my "always have" card for DD's and the like.

I am wondering whether I would or should ditch the BW Qantas card and then apply for the ANZ card or whether 3 cards would generally be accepted. All cards get cleared each month and have for years (understand banks take it into account but don't rely on that laways happening).

Or should I ditch the BW Qantas card anyway to start the clock ticking for whatever time limit they may impose on future deals they may put out??

    Cheers

    • It's the combined credit limit that becomes an issue. 14+6=20 + this card = 35. As long as they think you are okay with a 35k combined limit it's fine :)

      • Thanks. Based on provable income then I don't see it being an issue. I will roll the dice and see what gives.

I am happy to kills off my BW card but would rather do that post the new one as there are a couple of irons in that fire I want to extinguish first.

        • I’m in a similar situation, wondering what did you end up doing? Did you get approved?

          • @expatOz: I canned my BW card in the end to start the clock ticking to take another offer further down the track.

Applied for the ANZ card and was accepted. I didn't even get asked by ANZ about the BW card so could have kept it I reckon. When I applied for the BW card originally they were more diligent before approving as they wanted to see evidence I had cancelled a St. George card that was still showing on my credit file.

  • 1 payslip shows 75k, 1 payslip shows 66k, will I pass?

    • +2

      Congrats on the pay rise

      • +1

Oh I didn't expect congratulating comment. Thank you :) actually just work longer hours really.

        • overtime is usually not taken into consideration

    • Thanks OP. Just got approved on on 9/12. Waiting for card to arrive now.

  • I have changed job 3 months ago and they were asking pay slips from old job

  • Credit rating 530……should I even bother applying?
No idea why my rating is so low. Could be St George killed it when I tried applying for 3 times and got rejected 2 years ago without knowing about credit rating thing

    • Yikes that’s low. That’s more than just 3 credit enquires 2 years ago that killed your credit score. I wouldn’t bother applying unless your income is exceptional high and have a lot of assets with low liabilities.

      • The bank enquiries knock off around 50 credit score each time I believe.

Will be awhile till I get it back up to 700ish.

Dont know how to apply for more cards now. So annoying.
Never paid a statement late nor mortgage late.

        • You should be alright if don't have any late payments. The number is just some algorithm cookup by the those credit checkers. Banks unlikely using those. They're having their own internal algorithm.

I have a score of 560 with Credit Simple. According to them, I'm just in Good score. They grade me at 10% bottom according to my age, postcode, state and country. According to them, I'm no hope with premium Credit cards, and only offer low cost/ low interest ones.

On the other spectrum, those from Credit Savvy gave me a 870 score and in Excellent level. They gave me top score in age, postcode, state and country. Their offers target to me are all the platinum ones, including this one.

          • @timhn: Oh….so you get diff scores from diff free credit score company….that's interesting.

            I do use credit simple

  • I've checked with ANZ a few days ago, they've removed the minimum annual income $75,000 requirement :)

    • Should have also told them to remove it from their website page then since it's still there.

      • It seems it's been taken off the eligibility requirements

        • Still there under "Some things to check-off" on the get started page.

  • any comments on the ANZ app to keep a close eye on spending? easy to pay on the app or have to wait for the monthly bill? I'm spoiler by cwbank app.

    • hoping they've improved too, the apps and online banking were trash compared to CBA when I had my last card with them.

    • I've used both. ANZ app has most of the basic stuff you need and the transactions/balances update fairly fast. But the CBA app still has far more features ANZ don't have like alerts/notifications.

    • It's a frustrating app/website for setting up direct debit (need to attend a branch, fill out a physical form, and they mail it somewhere). Took more than a month to set up.

  • Would it be easier to get approved for previous card holder who cancelled 1.5/2 years ago?

    • I've cancelled mine in Aug last year. Will apply for this in a week time and get back to you.

    • I cancelled my previous card in April '18 and just re-applied last night. Will let you know.

  • Just churned and got the 100k bonus for the Citibank Signature Qantas.

Still haven’t received the two priority lounge passes though so can’t cancel that card yet.

Should I go for this? Pity they didn’t state the expiry date for this promo.

    • I applied the Citibank Signature Qantas 1 month ago (still haven't got my 1st-month statement), I received the Priority Pass (in the mail) in the last week.
Once you new card has been approved, you should receive an email with the priority pass activation code, then you can register it online and have App version PP ready immediately.

    • If you get the PP and then cancel the credit card, then the PP will no longer be active as it is tied to the credit card. Happened to me.

  • How is this credit card different from any other credit card? Why does it deserve such a steep annual fee?

    • +1

most won't pay the steep annual fee, only the first year discounted fee w/ points - then get rid of it.

      • SO in otherwords, people are buying the 120k points for $200?

    • To be fair, basically all of the top level Black/Signature/Ultimate cards have a similarly steep annual fee, across issuers. Hence why most people OzB'ers hang around for the deals that offer zero or a reduced fee in the first year.

  • A applied for this card Friday morning at 7:46am and was approved @ 4:15pm on the same day. :) Good news.

    • Happy spending

    • Did you supply your docs through the application page or through the email link? I applied on Thursday evening and haven't heard back since, wonder I should upload my docs again through the email link instead.

      • Application page.

    • And my card arrived today… Pretty happy with the turn around times with ANZ!
