Il settle for this deal after the failed catchoftheday one

    • I feel ya

      • +1

I'll wait for Catchoftheday $99 deal someday so I can use that $20 credit they gave.

        • +1

and then it gets cancelled due to "price error"

          • @RaihaX: and another $20 credit. Win!

            • @dealhunter52: you mean lose $20

            • @dealhunter52: true but there is hardly anything i want on catch unless is a bargain but those end up being cancelled anyway!

        • Wait what? I didn't get a $20 credit for that nonsense. I'm going to have to send a very sternly written email. hurumph

          • @ONEMariachi: Did you get the refund though? I sent a email about not getting any update on the order and next day they refunded and gave $20 store credit.

    • +6

yea same here. (profanity) catch of the day, ill never use their site again.

  • What's the difference between the two?

    • +14

      $31.84…

Sorry I hate myself for that… Expensive one has higher power handling for one, so it SHOULD be louder. For the difference in money I'd just get the better.

      • +3

1700 sounds better but doesnt have optical/coax input.

For computer 1200 for vinyl/music 1700. For TV get the other one thats got a sub out (not on special right now)

        • +2

          lock it in eddi

        • I have been back and forth between the two and ended up ordering the 1280DB for vinyl (will receive it in a month). Have you heard both in person to compare for vinyl? Aside from a Youtube video, there is little online in reviews directly comparing the two for vinyl/music. I'm not sure if I should go for the 1700 now instead. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I purchased the R1289DB on Black Friday, very capable speakers and I recommend them

  • replace my Z623 with this?

    • I've got the same question! These should be able to pair to a Google Home Mini through Bluetooth though which is a plus.

    • I bought R1700BT. It's excellent for my TV, however even when comparing against Z313 the bass is slightly lacking (but better at everything else) due to no subwoofer. If you want a PC speaker, especially for gaming, look for G560 and join RGB master race. Well the G560 is indeed reviewed favourably in terms of sound.

      • I would concur with this. Overall better sound than my logitechs (especially mid-range) however I do miss the "thump" in games/movie action scenes. I probably should have splurged a bit and got the R1850DB and a sub. Anyway, for $99 very good value but don't expect miracles

  • Anyone know similar speakers which have auto suspend/sleep?

    • +1

Plug your current speaker to this and problem solved :)
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/100-Xiaomi-Mi-Smart-WiFi-Socket-…

      • That probably uses more power than the speakers do when they are sitting idle

        • +1

It consumes less than 1W, still cheaper in the long run than buying a whole new speaker just for standby feature :)

          • +1

            @ntb: No it doesn't.

That picture is for the ZigBee version which will use less power because it is using ZigBee not wifi.

The wifi version will use 3-5 watts.
            For reference the TP-Link HS100 uses 3.68w

            • @spaceflight: Probably because of the energy monitoring?

      • Thanks for the suggestion, but realistically it wouldn't help much because I'd be using them anywhere between 7am and 3am.

  • +2

    Thanks OP, got the R1700.
Still feel a bit miffed about the Catch cancelation haha.

  • +3

    Stop posting audio specials!!!

You guys are going to make me broke!

    • R1700BT $143 delivered from Edifier shop :)

  • Thanks so much OP. Been waiting for a special on the 1700s for a while. Can't wait to hear them after all the research points to great quality sound for the price.

    • Everything is good other than the bass.

      • Thanks Richard. Is it terrible or just acceptable?

        • I will say average for bass, but vocal, mid and clarity etc are really good for the price.

    • I bought these from a previous deal about a month ago, after seeing all the hype here on OzBargain even though I sceptical.
When I received them I was blown away by the quality of sound coming out, you will definitely be happy!

      • +1

Great to hear you're happy! Looking forward to hearing them.

I don't get these eBay Plus deals. The vast majority of people who haven't purchased eBay Plus will be turned off by the shipping fee. Essentially such deals are targeted at very few people. Seems an odd sales strategy.

    • +5

You've just solved your own confusion all in the same breath. What you specify is exactly what eBay wants, they want people to feel like they're missing out without eBay Plus. So for them it's targeted at both people who don't have plus yet and also at the significant "very few" people that already do have it. Nothing seems odd here. Unless I'm missing something?

      • -4

I guess my point is that I'm not compelled to purchase eBay Plus just to get free shipping on a deal. Moreover, these deals are slightly annoying, which in turn solidifies my resolve to never purchase eBay Plus. It's complicated.

        • +6

How is it annoying? Just get eBay Plus? Free trial is easy, or sign up during one of their almost free promo offerings. Even if you take the "expensive" route of the standard $20 off after the free trial, that's $29 for 13 months of Plus. The previous popular deal for these speakers is ~$109, this one is $99, already saved $10. It's just numbers, no need to get annoyed by it. Either you use eBay so rarely that you shouldn't be remotely phased by missing out on 1 or 2 deals per year, or you use eBay enough that Plus will easily pay for itself over that 13 months. If you're just out to boycott eBay for some reason then just abuse the free trials?

          • @jenna12: What are you doing next Saturday?

          • @jenna12: Agreed. For what I’ve bought lately in sales, eBay Plus and Amazon Prime have paid for themselves. A year ago (when utterly broke) it wouldn’t have been worth it for me.

    • Just use someone else's eBay account that have eBay plus. Or split the cost with someone and share the account. Or split the cost between 10 people and all share the account. Or 100 people. Or 1000.

      • Ozbargain group buy when?

  • Didn't know much about them, got the Black Friday pair and I continue to be really impressed with speaker capability.

    • Which model did you buy?

      • +1

        Sorry. R1280DB. :)

  • These aren't wireless right? Cords running to both speakers?

    • Yeah. Only wireless in the sense they connect to the device via bluetooth.

      • Thanks mate. With the 1280s, can I connect to my pc via cable? I don't have Bluetooth.

        • Yes. As a R1280DB owner, you can connect via 3.5mmm jack as well

  • Highly recommended for the sound quality of this speaker

  • Would they suit using with a iMac?

  • +12

Bought these for the Missus on a previous (more expensive) deal. Highly recommend. She wasn't happy that I bought them, but once she (I) paired them up to her Lappy she stopped busting my balls for at least three hours while she listened to Metallica and such crap.

I haven't had a chance to listen to Enya on them yet, though I'm sure she'd sound fabulous!

  • +3

Bought the R1700. Seems to be the better deal looking at past prices and it sounds better based on some Youtube comparisons. Would've been nice to have optical though.

  • +2

I have been lurking for ages and decided to sign up to say thanks for effort you all put in. Bought a pair of these.

    • +2

Welcome. It'll be great to have a further perspective! More the merrier is the ozbargain way. Feel free to ask questions anytime you feel one of us may be able to assist here. No such as a silly question, even us oldies learn plenty of new things week to week.

  • Has anyone used them with echo dot? Bluetooth or aux? It would be great if you could share your feedback. I recently bought an echo sub to pair with the dot, but not really impressed with it. Thanks

  • My R1280db just arrived.. it was $80 on Amazon a few weeks ago.

  • Can these be used as tv sound bar?

  • Does anyone know how long this deal is for?

  • +1

I guess the deal has ended. I was just about to place my order, checked and they had +12 in stock and they're now out of stock.

    • Yup I checked all 4 links all are out of stock

      • Yeah I had 2 in my cart, just had to go out for a job so checked and they had more than 10 available, so thought I'll be fine - came back 20 minutes later and all out of stock (no new purchases today). Obviously a timed event.

  • Can the 1280dbs be used laying flat horizontally? Does that affect sound at all? Won't fit standing up on my desk. LEaning towards the Yamaha soundbar for this fact.

  • +1

Just received mine today, they sound amazing, especially for the price.
    Well worth it.
Really quick shipping to Perth. They buy from a wholesaler here and use a courier, not Oz Post.

  • Just a heads up to anyone that has ordered and hasn't received a delivery notice - Wireless1 messaged me a few confusing messages over the past few days:

I apologize for any inconvenience, we have been having a few sync issues between our platform and eBay's, which is actually causing all sorts of issues. In this case, it's synced some QTY to eBay of items we no longer have in stock. From my undestanding, we had 3 yesterday, however, they were sold early in the morning and since there's been no stock. I really do apologize for this. I may ask my product manager for an ETA if you wish?

So if you haven't received a shipping notice just shoot them a message to confirm stock.
