wish you could extend an existing subscription.

    • +1

I wish this for many things but I feel like businesses don't want us getting to good of a good thing too often and extending subscriptions would be pretty bottom line business breaking.

      • if you're already a member, they've got you already. The priority is always to get new customers.

  • +8

I prefer Amazon over Ebay, Big W, Kmart, Target, Harvey N, or JB HIFI

Fast / free for prime member, easy returns, cheaper item, easy chat customer service

    • +5

      Plus movies music etc

    • +5

      Plus some excellent tv shows.

The new season of The Expanse was just released. :)

      • Sweet! Thanks for the reminder!

    • I’ve never returned anything, how easy is it with amazon?what have you needed to return?

      • +2

Not a return, but I picked up a Black Friday deal: later that week Auspost said “Delivered, left in a safe place” (but they had not), Amazon refunded purchase after about 72h. Not sure it this is just for prime or anyone

        • AusPost take photos when they leave parcels, so ask to see it. Fun begins when you explain to them it is not your front door and you can prove what yours looks like … they won't even take a few seconds look it up on Google Earth. Should be gps scanned; if Census could do that so surely can they.

      • Pretty easy actually. If its within 30 days you just select automatic return. If its outside of that then hop on chat via phone or online, advise of fault then go from there.

Had to return 2 pairs of headphones and it was simple as (one within 30 days one within 6 months of purchase)

      • They would send you a replacement BEFORE you send your item back. Did that with my kindle with dead pixels

        • Amazon has been nightmare for me. Cost $50 to return a couple of pairs of shorts that were clearlu not the correct size and listed as free returns. As well as an hour or more stuffing around to post them back. Eventually got refunded after hunting down some chat because there was no returns button.
Got a humidifier DOA and bought stuff that had delivery listed as quick and took weeks.
Ebay might take some time from over seas but never have to return doa stuff
Plus little niknaks that cost a dollar or two on ebay often cost over $10 or much more for the same item on Amazon.

With ebay it's a nice surprise when something arrives within a week and happens often. Amazon over promises and under delivers for me so far.

I outfitted and rebuild a bike with lights and lots of gear for 1/5 the price it would have been on amazon. Patience and ebay is your firend.

          • @jimmy c: Having said that! Where is my targeted ebay plus email ebay? I actually don't think i need it, but would trial it to see for myself if I got the email.

    • +2

Ordered something in stock on Harvey Norman online Friday, queried why it hasn't been sent…. Said it may be sent before Xmas when I spoke to their online chat… Not delivered, sent.

Also ordered a couch in person they have in stock in a warehouse 2 weeks ago, got told last week won't get it till end of Jan as the courier company can't fit it on the truck and they are off for a Xmas break….

(profanity) Aussie retailers that treat customers like that. Especially in a bad retail environment.

That wasn't even the worst thing about the instore experience either….

      Amazon ALL THE WAY.

      • +2

But you can't go and see the couch at Amazon

        • But you can see photos and reviews from real people who have the couch.

Often the couch you see in store is different to what they have in the warehouse so Amazon is a better way to go with far better service.

  • Real high IQ blokes just us disposable cards and sign up to eBay Plus trial when they make a worthy purchase.

    • +3

Nah, even a dumb carnt can do that.

    • +2

Bro, no one is accusing you of having high IQ

  • +6

How is this getting so many thumbs up?

Maybe slow your roll you trigger happy hipsters and wait for the deal to become live. I suspect there will be a lot of unhappy campers tomorrow. Of course, I hope I'm wrong.

  • +1

I already unsubscribe emails from eBay.
Does it mean no chance to get any offerl…?

    • I only just unsubscribed from e-mail promos last week cos I was being targeted for diddly-squat anyway.

I'll never know if I would've gotten this one now lol

  • I'd buy that for a dollar!

  • i never got offered $1 before but can see $49 a yr with $50 gift card. Previously already used free trial -what are my odds of getting $1 or should i take up the current offer with $50 gift card?

    • I just signed up for the gift card offer. I took screenshots at each step. As soon as I did it there's a final screen that says "your $50 code will be delivered to your email blah blah blah over coming days"
Took a screenshot of that as well.
I'm very confident of getting my gift card and earning a dollar total, rather than spending 1-5 bucks for this deal. Do it I say.

  • +1

why did ebay remove discount info off their listings? pre xmas/boxing strategy to maximise revenue from noobs. Used to be only for ebay plus members but became available for everyone, now its gone again hehe.

  • Cool but i got it for 49 and got a 50 gift card. I reckon that's better. But this is also a good deal.

    • doesnt the $50 come with t&c's like it has to be used in a single transaction, if you don't use it all the remainder is forfeited. also can't be used with codes. makes it very limited

      • Don't think there is a single transaction condition.
I used my $50 gfit card in two $14.95 eneloop transactions (AA & AAA) and still have the remaining amount available.

It seems to me it is just like any normal gift cards and can be used with codes.

        • Ah cheers. I was avoiding as I thought it needed to be spent in one hit.

      • It's a gift card not a voucher

        • Yeah gift card came at the right time I used it immediately. Though was also a targeted offer. But personally I prefer that to this deal.

          • @mooreshady: Did anyone got charged international transaction fee by bank for Ebay Plus subscription? I thought Ebay process payment on shore not off shore??

  • So annoyed, I had to fork out $50 to renew my membership during Black Friday sales. Do you think I’ll have any luck asking support for a refund of the difference?

    • Try and report back for the rest of us

    • $50 to renew

Did you at least get a $20 or $30 voucher?

  • +2

    It's cheap for a reason.

  • +1

    Nothing here as well

  • +1

The only reason I would pay $1 is because of way too many deals with free postage only with eBay plus which has been very annoying.

They did this deliberately to make people sign up for free postage.

However, if this is targeted and I don't get the offer I won't bludge

    • +2

      I love bludging!

  • Its live, I see it on the Ebay homepage banner
    Never received the email though

  • I’ve got a different offer, basically $50 gift card for $49 ebay plus membership. I’m ok with that.

  • Thanks OP I just claimed the 1 dollar one, have previously used a free trial!

  • Can confirm the link OP provided works. Just signed up for $1 and I hadn't received the email.
    Thank you OP!

  • On what basis they target which audience/person will enjoy the offers? As I didn't receive any invite :(

    • Just click on banner

      • +5

After clicking "Start free trial" button on the top banner, it's showing AU $49.00 per year to me :(
I previously used trial and then cancelled it.
I have no clue on how to avail $1 golden offer :'(
        "

  • +8

Damn, Op's link still wants $49 from me.
I never seem to get any of these promotional emails or offers from Ebay even with all the relevant notifications turned on.
    Oh well.

  • Got the dollar… happy to sign up with that! Don't forget to cancel renewal though!

  • I finally got offered a targeted deal!

  • -1

Went to cancel auto renewal (after paying $1) and it offered me a $30 gift card if I stay after today. Winning.

    • Not really, I went to do the same and it says:

Stay & continue your membership beyond 18 December 2020 & receive a $30 gift card*

So you have to pay the renewal to get the $30 gift card. Ts&Cs here

      • Obviously. They’re not going to give you a gift card if you cancel anyway!

      • Yes, you're right. I was thinking it was beyond 18 December 2019. Cancelled 😛

  • My email just came through :D

  • +4

Anybody else end up at the 'You've reset your password!' page after completing the subscription? Strange

Ebay still hasnt taken the $1 though

    • Yeah mine did too but I checked membership and it went through.

    • +1

yep. same. weird. it better be only $1 taken. lucky i took screenshots

    • +2

hahaha yep. My ebay account has 1 year Ebay plus membership now, so it works.. whoever's working on the links in the background is not doing a very good job! $1 for a year, can't complain!

    • Me too, I've reported it to their customer support and also gave them a link to this comment thread so they knew it wasn't only me.

  • +1

    Thanks!

It said "start trial" and $49 for me on the linked page, but when I clicked on the start trial button it had the $1 annual fee listed (I'd already used the trial and subscribed last year)

    • As above! Click the link and read carefully ;)

    • +3

      Not here. $49

  • got it!

  • +2

In the email it also says

Get $60 worth of ebay vouchers. That's a $5 ebay voucher every month for an entire year.

How exactly do we get this?

    • Saw that too. Not sure…

Finally got the email and offer this time. Wasn't targeted for any of the previous ones this year, have only ever used the 1 month trial when this thing first came out.

Clicking through the link still showed the $49 package, but clicking through the link on the ebay plus page itself showed the $1 offer. Got that weird password reset page at the end too.

    • +2

paypal just came through and was still charged $49. I guess off to have a chat with ebay then sigh.

      • +2

Any updates? Also charged $49 and was told other people were reporting the same problem. Ebay escalating mine, have a feeling this will drag

Had I known I would not have bothered, Amazon Prime is miles better in both offering and service

        • +1

Pretty much the same as you, they're escalating it and hoping the marketing guys will be able to refund the $48.
I'm not too bothered or in any rush as long as the refund comes through.

  • +1

got the email so signed up again for a year $1 ok. Not sure I got anything different out of my 3 month free trail

  • +2

How to get this email from them?

  • +3

I never get these offers. Wants $49 from me. Have never signed up to plus or used the free trial before.

    • +1

Same here - not sure what the go is..

    • Big Data analyzed you … and said NO! ;-)

  • Singed up for $1 for a year… woohoo

I didn't get any emails. Just went to ebayplus tab on the app and it showed up $1 to join.

    So just double check ppz

    • +3

      I checked… still $49 for me :(

    • Hope you recover from your burns quickly.

  • Signed up for 1$ first year membership! No email was sent to me but it was there when I clicked on trial and it says to pay only $1 for first year. Thanks to OP for this

    • Same. No email so I just went to the regular ebayplus link, clicked on trial and bam. This was the message:

"To join eBay Plus, you need to provide a payment method. eBay Plus normally costs AU $49.00 per year, but by joining now, you'll pay just AU $1.00 for your first year. Your membership will be automatically renewed each year, unless you've cancelled it."

Got my plus membership for a $1 :)

  • +2

It offered it to me for $1 but PayPal charged me $49. Not happy

    • +1

Same here. Not happy at all. I received an email about $1 deal. I had to call them and was told they're working on it.

  • Also, checked PayPal receipt…

You sent a payment of $0.99 AUD to eBay Marketplaces GmbH

Not sure why they advertise $1, charge $0.99!

    • GmbH means it was processed via Germany!

    • Same they only charged my CC $0.99.

    • They offered $5 membership and they CHARGED me $4.99.
THEN CHARGED AGAIN $5.00 next month.
I contacted to customer service they said fixed it BUT sent invoice of $5.08 (including late payment fee) following month.

  • +2

Ughh, I was just charged $49, da fuk!!

    • Contact their online chat

    • +1

Same here. I had to call them and was told they're gonna escalate. I wouldn't have signed up if I knew it woukd be a hassle

  • +2

All I get is 'Become a member for free for 30 days' then $49.00 once the trial finishes.

Not sure why some people are offered $1, other people $5 and then the rest with the above.

Anyways, great deal if you can get it for $1

    • I had the same, but I clicked past and the $1 offer was mentioned under the $49… something like, but for the period 18-20 you can get it for $1…

Edit: scrap that, they screwed me.

  • +1

Hmm just got a payment declined for ebay plus interesting…

    • Same. got an email payment was declined and membership cancelled :/
