@iBuzz7S: because it helps balance out sky news?

Murdoch has finally figured out public sentiment is turning away from Scomo and this is his lever.

    No thanks.

No thanks, most biased trash tier news channel.

Watch it only if you are a right wing supporter and need some reassurance how it's not their fault

  • +26

Murdoch media is a cancer on the planet.

  • +13

At a time when the whole country is watching more news (the free ones, mostly the ABC), Murdoch 'generously' provides access to his warped view of reality on these human-induced (and Morrison bungled) disasters.

    • these human-induced (and Morrison bungled) disasters.

      Like this one?

Was that also due to 'climate change?'

"The weather reached record extremes. By eleven it was about 47 °C (117 °F) in the shade."
      1851 - 6 February "Black Thursday" (5 million hectares)

      • +1

        " By eleven it was about 47 °C (117 °F) i"

Had that been predicted with an explained mechanism, the work peer-reviewed, and the trend continuing for eight decades, then yes, it would be like that one.

        • What about the fires in 1939 that burned 2 million hectares ?

Were they due to climate change too?

The Black Friday bushfires of 13 January 1939, in Victoria, Australia, were among the worst natural bushfires (wildfires) in the world. Almost 20,000 km2 (4,942,000 acres, 2,000,000 ha) of land was burned, 71 people died,

Scott Morrison has a lot to answer for…

          • @jv: Indeed he has. Glad you've finally realised it.

            For ignoring science.

For refusing to recognise the effects coal, among other things, has on the global climate and, along with his conservative mates, playing up the denier claims of 'it's natural', nothing to fear about coal etc.

            And more particularly:
For ignoring requests for the establishment of a national aerial tanker fleet following major fires a few years ago.

For ignoring requests for a meeting with experienced fire experts who were openly saying that Australia faced an enormous threat and challenge and was under-prepared.

For sneaking off to Hawaii in the midst of a national crisis.

Your comments above show just how big a grip your blind ideology has on you. Time to grow up, open your mind and read more widely.

                    @jv: Hypocrisy much?

Don't speak for others. It's not difficult to be "smarter" to use your puerile term. All it takes is interest, willingness to read, and a good dose of skepticism. If you want to be treated as an adult how about you have a go at answering questions as best you can.

        • +1

Dead right terrys. Most of us are FAR better informed now.Communications, fire monitoring and fire-fighting capabilities are also significantly better - although a long way from where they should be. As one OS ambassador said - in our country we would not allow fires to burn out of control like this for months on end.

There is no excuse for ignoring climate science and failing to produce policies for the long term benefit of the nation. Even less excuse for failing to look after the national estate simply to get a temporary budget surplus. If it was that critical - it isn't - Morrison and Turnbull before him could have achieved that with the stroke of a pen by removing Howard's welfare payments (new tax concessions) to multinational petro companies.

@jv: Feel free to explain the "sarcasm…" In your own time and words. I'm all ears. Your lurking con-rade [sic] payton can have a go if he wishes as he apparently saw it as well.

Edit: just checked your profile 66,655 comments in 11 years, or about 16 every day for a "baker's decade". And yet suddenly so shy on a serious topic. What does that say exactly?

@jv: So the sarcasm you apparently saw was a figment of your con imagination? Do you need more time or were you simply maintaining your record of 16 fatuous comments a day for 4000+ days? Another rhetorical question.

Allow me to return the favour. As a vacuous commenter once said: "in the cobwebs of the gap between your ears."

yeah no thanks. abc is already free and provides more balanced information.

  • +10

Free in the same way that receiving propaganda is free.

    • Since its planned that we go to war with Iran shortly its also important we all get to know why the war is necessary. The fact that America started it deliberately will not be mentioned.

The planned war will get Donald out of his jams, cover-up the brexit nightmare, and move our own internal apocalypse to the back pages of Murdoch's media empire.

We need someone in parliament to start lobbying now to stay out of it while we survive the hellfires because its not our war. Many Australians are fighting a war in our own backyard - we need to focus on our own issues, and sky news will not allow it.

  • +17

I'm just going to provide some balance to the ridiculous number of uninformed negative votes that have appeared.

In Victoria, Sky News is the ONLY TV broadcaster that is an official Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) Emergency Broadcaster. This means they are committed in writing to providing all emergency warnings issued by EMV.

ABC Radio, however, IS an official EMV Emergency Broadcaster and can therefore also be relied upon, along with Sky News and VicEmergency etc, to provide accurate warnings and broadcast of emergency alerts. ABC TV is not, nor are any other commercial TV stations except Sky News.

You can find more information here: https://www.emv.vic.gov.au/our-work/victorias-warning-system…

    • Thanks for sharing. I cannot believe some oxygen thief negged you.

      • +2

No worries. Some people have their beliefs and that's fine. I have done some EM work in a previous role, and I just want people to know what sources they can trust when it comes to obtaining the information they need to make decisions around protection of their property and, ultimately, lives. You should always try and get as much information as possible from the various broadcasters, and direct from the Emergency services authorities (in Victoria, EMV through VicEmergency).

        Politics has no role here.

the vast majority are abc stations and 'In addition, always use more than one source of data to make sure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information possible.'

which rules out sky news from being of any real use.

thought that was very pertinent to the political assertions being made

    • +4

If someone wants emergency warnings they're more likely to use radio. Needing Power/NBN/4G makes streaming Sky TV pretty difficult at the best of times.

    • Be that as it may, being an EMV broadcaster - the only positive put forward for this burning cesspit of a channel - is not a badge of honour if you're not providing it for free to begin with…

  • +2

In an emergency who cares about politics? It's all about information and if this channel can help spread some (actual) information then so be it. People already believe what they want

Bushfires have and will happen forever as long as there are dry areas.
Climate change has an impact on intensity, severity, length & time during the year it happens.

Sure, this might be a 1-in-50 or 100 year season. However, this is something that has and will slowly become the norm.

Get used to it, (mod: removed inflammatory remark)

Look at the 3 western countries in the world tearing themselves apart Australia , UK and USA , all have heavy presence of Murdoch media , the man is a cancer on society , the sooner his empire is gone the better the world will be

    • +4

His empire is built on American interests - his biggest influence is in those countries that allowed him unfettered media controls. England has gone to America and ceased to be independent as the last election proved when its own intelligence agencies interfered with its running by deliberately publishing fake news against one candidate.

Its highly unlikely now that any Australian election will be run without similar domestic interference by our own intelligence agencies, since they already dance to a foreign tune, but its almost Superbowl time, so sit back and enjoy the yank crap, fox news will.

Climate change is just the latest conspiracy by George Soros. Wake up sheeple and watch Sky News and Alex Jones for the truth (and protein supplements)!

Climate change is made up by Soros to control the masses just like fluoride in the water this time instead of making the frogs gay they want to take your children for money via taxes and fake "solar farms". They are forgetting science has showing that is impossible to harness the energy of sun without dying it's too hot!

    Spread the truth people!

Ironic considering Murdochs media empire is more responsible for the bushfires (and general shithouse state of the nation / world) than any one politician, and now they're doing us a favor by giving us our daily dose of propaganda and misinformation for free?

Cant support propaganda news channels… I have seen the kind of damage that it has done in countries like India.
