Umm, is this for 12 months contract or 24 months?

    • 12 months as far as I was told when I was there yesterday.

      • +1

        12 months which better value.
If you signup 24months you ll get $500 which is not quite appealing

        • $500 and 80GB of data though. The data is what gets me.

  • 12 months sorry

  • +3

Oh wow i thought i was writing this. Literally just signed up myself this afternoon, picked up ip11 128gb which is limited stocks.
Gift card can be used straightaway to deduct the phone cost.
Dont forget to get jbhifi 5% egift cards for more disc. They accept multiple giftcards

  • Can you still switch to the month by month plans then cancel?

    • +2

Probably luck of the draw with Chat as usual, but I don't think you should be buying this on the basis that you'll do that….

      TLDR No.

    • Managed to get my plan cancelled with no charges, but it was mostly due to a porting error on Telstra's end and it took a lot of chats and visits to JB stores.

    • +1

      Think they fixed that

  • +1

Does this mean the $45pm plan should be available too?
    (With the smaller GC)

  • +13

    Hmmm

    $65 / month = $780 for 12 months

    Less a gift card of $400 face value, offset against a phone $1279 -400 = $879

    Total cost is $780 + $879 = $ 1659 (No limit on excess data, $10/GB)

    Alternatively,

    Telstra 12 month plan - unlimited calls and SMS plus 150GB (12.5GB/mo) = $229

Sticker price of iPhone - $1279 at JBhifi

    Cost - $229 + 1279 = $1508

No telstra invoices, no excess data, same network, no credit check snafus.

    Just putting this out there.

    • +4

      1 It's not 150gb a month? - nice edit… This has higher data anyway

2 I believe that prepaid offer is finished… Back to $300

      • typo fixed already - cheers

        • +1

Think this is atleast 50gb a month too, maybe more. So about $80 difference for 4 times the data…

          • -6

            @scuderiarmani:

            1. Do you need that data?
            2. Is the ever present threat of excess data charges worth it?
            3. $80 feeds a lot of distressed koalas.
            • +5

@Alan Laz: I could never use 60gb a month… I've turned off wifi and I sit at Max 25-30gb with heavy use.

12.5gb a month I'd have to manage data.

Im not gonna respond to that last one…

So yeah I'd say $80 over a year for over 4 times the data is well worth it. Easier for those who won't like upfront costs.

Could also add you'd get Telstra points for anyone that cares too…

    • +1

Of course buying a phone outright and getting a prepaid plan should be much cheaper than getting a phone contract and post paid plan.

It's not a real $400, it's store credit that can only be used in one venue so unless you were planning to spend $400 at JB no brainer to just buy a phone you can afford instead of buying a phone on a contract, I can't believe people still do it.

      • it is a real $400…if i'm buying an iphone and don't want to fork out the exxy upfront cost..

    • Where do I get a 12mth telstra plan with 150gb pm data for $229????

      I do it now! Ignore… It's 12.5gb pm not 150 or even 60…

  • So this deal at 60gb doesn't have POM Data?

    • +1

JB Hifi deals have that nasty sting - no piece of mind data.

      • +1

        Cheers mate

      • +6

60gb enough peace of mind for me

      • Try TGG

  • I went for this plan, and the guy who served me told me that it's always $400 gift card for porting across, and $500 was the deal last month.

    • +5

The $500 GC had been running well before last month.

      • I've been told it won't be the norm anymore, but who knows.

        • Australia day special?

          • @cisco: Originally I was told it wasn't exactly good for profits and was too much to give out longer term. But what does a random salesmen know anyway lol.

Maybe $500 will only apply to $1000 plus handsets or the like so there's more scope for them…

  • Come on optus!!!

    • +10

Yeah but optus is not in the same league

      Network Coverage
      Telstra >> Optus

      Service standards
      Telstra >>> Optus

      etc etc

Now that Telstra's pricing is now at or better than the market (apart from the trash MVNO offerings at the bottom of the market) we can once again reconsider Telstra who are the market leaders. Nothing else comes close.

      • Paying $15 for 35gb a month for 3 months on optus, then will jump on the next optus pre paid deal. I paid $20 to get a travel pack with 20gb data which was incredible, Telstra charged $10 per gb. In my area optus is as good, and also better than Telstra in coverage. Sure, if you travel all the time telstra might be a better pick. We are about bargain and value here though. I've never had good service with either telstra or optus. Telstra dont support good deals for existing customers, optus do. Really depends on if you want save money, travel overseas, or travel within australia to see the real value. I also get rollover data with optus, currently have 90gb, I end up donating most of the data to under privileged kids though.

      • There’s a reason Telstra got cheaper. Optus is getting better.

  • +3

Telstra plans don't include unlimited international calling to 10 or 35 countries with any of their plans, do they?

    • +1

Nope, nor do they include the additional roaming packs like optus, well they do, but they are a rip off.

    • +2

      https://boost.com.au/shop/300-prepaid/

get this is best $240 12 months that's $11 month and 20gb Data plus UNL- Intl calls and its Telstra

      • +1

That offer expired on 6th Jan

      • +1

No, it's not ($240/12 = $20 p/m). Also that deal was for new customers only but has expired now.

Now $300 again, equating to $25 p/m. Still not too bad.

    • Nope, only their prepaid plans do.

  • +2

FWIW, Telstra 60GB Month-to-month plan is $50 which is $15 cheaper than this and you are not in a contract.

  • +1

Taking the $400 into account, this plan is effectively $31.67/month for 60GB.

    • +6

That's if you're going to buy something.

Think there might be a few on Ozb reluctant to sell gift cards after the recent fiasco here.

      • What fiasco? Did I miss anything?

      • what happened?

        • :o

      • Fiasco?

        • +1

and by fiasco, I mean the ability to redeem the gift cards without a PIN (someone suggested it'd be quite easily to take photos of the gift card numbers when they are sitting on the shelf, and just attempt to use them later down the track after someone had loaded and purchased them.)

        • +3

I would strongly advise that you spend the gift card at the time of sign up.

          • -1

@RNDM: That’s just so the store gets the revenue.

  • Sorry I know this has been asked before, But I cant remember..
Currently already a telstra post-paid customer, can I sign up for a new contract and then transfer my number over ?
AKA new plan, but with my old number ?
saving me the pain of porting out to pre-paid then back to telstra dance.

    • No.

      • how long do you need to be ported out for ?

        • +1

Generally 30 days but if you go to the right Jb hifi where they don't hop on their computer and rather call Telstra to sign you up that may work for you because Telstra don't check if you been out of their network for full 30 days.

          • @batrarobin: When I tried that a few weeks back, the Telstra rep on the phone said no as I had only been ported off the Telstra network 10 days earlier and was told to come back after 30 days

            • @teh_gimp: yeah seems like it's hit or miss…different rep different story.

    • +1

Yes, did it over Christmas. Vodafone Sim ported to the Telstra deal, swapped numbers with an out of contract Telstra plan, then cancelled that plan.

      • so once you have both accounts - old and new.
What did you ask telstra chat to get them to switch numbers ?

        • I did it in store. Simply asked them to swap numbers for the 2 plans.

          • @RangaWal: Sorry mate - I'm not too sharp this late in the arvo.

You were already with Telstra, bought a Vodafone Sim, activated the Vodafone sim with a new number, ported that to the Telstra to claim the gift card, then swapped your old number onto the new Telstra plan?

            • +2

@wittyusername: Yep. Then cancelled the plan I was originally on (I was out of contract).

              • @RangaWal: I like the cut of your jib. Did they transfer it immediately after signing you up for the new plan?

    • If you just want the JB HiFi plan you can, but they won't give you the gift card if you're an existing customer.

  • What's the best/easiest provider to port to for 30 days?

  • From memory, the $500 off was 24month contract previously?
And the $400 was for 12 month contracts, and has been so every week since just before Xmas.
    - have been checking jbhifi every week hoping for a similar December s10e deal for parents.

    • +5

i got $500 gift card for JB on 12month contract last month

      • I refunded the s10e at jbhifi after not being able to sell it here on ozb/gumtree.

Was listed on receipt as $99 cash + $750 gift card.

        Works out to be $60*12 + $99 - ($99+750), or ~$7/month by selling gc at $700.

Also, I claim a portion of bill on tax deductions for work related calls.

        • nice thats a good deal

  • can u share data with family on this plan?

  • can you add an MRO to this?

  • +1

Wonder if they're going to do another phone plan like the S10e for $99, which was quite easy to sell for $700, plus with bonus ear buds. Much better deal IMHO.

    • i'm waiting for the watch redemption again…

    • I want this but with the Pixel 3a (or maybe the 4a if it's released soon) - fingers crossed!

      • I think it's $399 with 3aXL. Saw this morning.

    • 1 buds are finished and 2 the phones value would be dropping rapidly and more so soon with the lite announcements and S11/20 whatever its called.

I didn't see any great handset offer. Maybe after the new model comes…

        1. I know the buds are finished, I got 3 pairs
        2. I'm not hoping for the same phone, hence my wondering if they're going to do another phone deal for a different phone.
  • can you port from boost

    • Last year when I signed up for the 12 month deal, they wouldn't allow a port from Boost. I had to go to a $2 Optus sim for a few hours and then back again and it was fine.

  • If you try other stores they may still have the $500 promo. Before Xmas I saw the $400 deal at Stand Arcade Pitt St but when I went to the Westfield Pitt St Mall they offered $500.

  • No port off from boost or belong.

  • I took advantage of the $500 gift card deal
I also got $10 off per month by asking on online chat
I got 50,000 bonus Telstra points for setting up direct debit (used to buy Samsung Galaxy Buds and sold them for $150)

    Good deal I reckon

    • Me too, but i reckon the Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 6 for 50,000 pts was a better deal
