Anyone got deals on OLED? These ones are old school tech. The difference between these and the OLED is like day and night.

    • +3

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514456

Pana OLED is probably the best bang for buck right now.

      • Seen that in JB, that panel is amazing. Still, these prices must fall.

    • Been agonising over this and the LG OLED TVs.
But at around 40% more the QLED might have to do.

      • Me too! I'm just waiting for the LG OLED 65" TV to be discounted!

        • same here

      • +3

Geez I dunno, @pegasusx you might end up with buyer's remorse if you go the QLED. It's LED technology against an OLED panel. There are several reasons (which I'm sure you know) why the OLED technology gives a better picture. Which is why QLED is cheaper.

        • +5

Yeah understand the tech. Just from a cost point of view IMHO the visual marginal improvement isn't worth that extra 40%.

I mean even between the B9 and C9, the next gen chip on board I couldn't see the difference in real day to day usage. Yes there is a difference when you whip out the diagnostics and compare the chip on board.

        • +3

I have a Samsung 65" 60Q QLED, my sister has the LG 65" C9 OLED, my TV cost $1,400 and hers $2,700. I was looking at the OLEDs until I went in store to look at them. With the bright shop lights, the OLEDS are incredibly reflective - probably because the screen is completely black (the demo footage they have is mostly black). That's the first thing my partner commented on too - "All I see is reflections". I saw my QLED there and even though it has worse viewing angles, I thought for the price it just didn't make any sense to get the QLED for my usage.

So I would simply say, unless you're going to watch your TV in pitch black, you're not really going to get the advantage of the OLED but will have to deal with all the downsides of an OLED (mostly the reflections and the back of mind issue of burn in).

Saying that, my sister loves her C9 and both TVs make free to air TV look like trash but 4k streaming content looks amazing! The UI on both is awesome.

Also, since I have a samsung phone (probably works with other phones), I can use my mobile as a remote which is great when you "misplace" your actual remote.

      • I just bite the bullet and purchased. At under 1k for a QLED 55 its going to be great for my parents.
        Thanks OP

PS. Can any one recommend a solid wall mount for this? Prefer one that extends out and swivels.

        • +2

Anything Selby or from Jaycar. Certainly don't need anything expensive and these work perfectly

          • @31mop: Cheers! Will look at the Selby Branded ones. Going to pass on Jaycar.

        • +2

I have been using one of these for the past few years - fantastic value - very solid and works just as described. It's cheap and shipping is quick:
          https://www.selby.com.au/tv-brackets-stands/tv-brackets-and-…

They have a huge range of brackets and wall mountings if this one does not suit.

          • @macfudge: That's exactly what I am looking for.
Do you have this model? Just wondering so it the swivel joints if they are metal on metal or plastic/ rubber ?

            • @pegasusx: The entire bracket is metal including the hinges. It's very smooth to move around and no noises (scraping / squeaking etc). I actually have two of them and the one in the rumpus room is often pulled and completely and tilted down (TV is mounted quite high up due to kids and viewing is often from beanbags on the floor) so we put it through it's paces. It's rock solid and highly recommended.

          • @macfudge: Yes I have same one on my 55" LG B7 and it is great.

There's a big difference in quality between the various QLED's. The Q60R is the entry level and IMO not worth it. it's edge lit still and it shows when you look at it side by side with the Q80R or Q90R.

IMO the Q80R/Q90R are about on par in quality with the B9 OLED, but have different pro's and cons.

The Q60R is not even close, so no wonder it's under $1k now….

      • I the Q60 a good deal at this price vs an LED for the same money? The Q80 and Q90 is a substantial jump in price.

        • Don't know TBH.

The pricing probably answers half the question though….

EDIT: BTW I'm not saying the Q60R is bad….. under $1k is probably a good buy. But the commenter I was replying to was comparing to OLEDs….. and a Q60R is not in the same category as a B9 OLED really.

The LG OLEDs should be compared to the Q80R/Q90R.

          • @Skramit: IMO The Q90R is the best TV I've ever seen, the OLEDs would be great if used in pitch black settings (no reflections) but both are waaaay too expensive IMO, I ended up going for the Q60 and love it but I came from a $300 HD Soniq (my sister has the C9 OLED and loves it so YMMV)

            • @Sir Flabo: Agreed. I helped my old man buy a Q80R. He was very close to spending the extra on the Q90R but side by side just couldn't justify the very minor extra brightness.

              • @Skramit: Does the Q80 have the same anti-reflective features, that's what made it stand out so much in person (every other TV was so reflective in comparison)

                • +1

@Sir Flabo: Similar anti reflective but not quite as good IIRC. BUt not worth an extra $1800 or whatever the difference is. It also has the same wide angle viewing as the 90, as well as the single cable box whatever its called. I wonder if it handles reflections bettwer due to the extra brightness.

The Q90R has more LED backlights and local dimming zones, so marginally better blacks and brighter colours. But IMO it's only only marginal really when looking at the side by side IMO.

      • Jump to the Q70R and you get direct backlight and a host of other features. Hard to find a good deal though.

    • Maybe with a ru7100 and q60 but the difference is smaller and smaller with the higher end qleds like the q80/q90 have pros and cons verse oled. Oled isn't perfect, the blacks are though!

  • Holy hell, their postage charges are ridiculous.

    • +9

$40 postage to Brisbane seems pretty reasonable to me? It depends on the TV size and location.

      • +1

$95.85 to post to Perth WA, which isn't terrible, but makes the recent deals with free delivery ($895 delivered) a little better.

Edit: postage is $180, makes this a no deal for West Aussies and other places I'm sure.

  • +1

How often do people turnover TVs? What happens to old ones?

    • +1

My 6 years old sony just kick the bucket last week, otherwise i would keep it for 7-10 years.

    • +2

I had a Samsung 3D LED TV, it lasted 3 years. Loud bang and that telltale white smoke escaped (electrical items don't work if the white smoke gets out). Panasonic plasma died less than a week later (yeah, I know) after 9 years; just would not switch on, Panny told me parts no longer available. Both of those went to the council recycling centre, but their destination after that is beyond my knowledge. Incidentally, I have my original TEAC plasma and it still works, I think it's about 15 years old. No image burn-in at all but I keep it in a storage room because it's standard definition and the resolution looks pretty bad against newer sets (as one would expect).

      • Have you read the mechanics definition of smoke and electricity too?

Lightbulbs work by sucking the smoke out of a room?

        • +5

Smoke is the spirit leaving the TV. Going to TV heaven.

    • +1

I like to keep my TVs for a good 5 years before buying a new one.

The old one's either i ask for friends/family who wants them or i donate it to Salvos/St Vinnies.

We currently have a Hisense 65 K3300uw that i think is crap. So i am looking to replace it. That one we bought only 3 years ago so a lot earlier than i would like to replace so early. But the newer TVs are so much better picture quality wise and Android tv features, etc.

So i am on the hunt for a new tv now.

    • +2

I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma that's STILL going strong after 15 years of use.
It's in the kids playroom now, but I wish it would die so I could get an upgrade.

      It refuses to die!
(I know it uses more electricity, but it still outperforms my newer LED in the family room. Especially for sports and movie blacks.

      • I went from a 50inch plasma to Hisense 65 led and only regret was not getting it sooner.

      • +1

10 years on my Samsung 50” plasma and counting…

    • Sold our Samsung plasma after about 7 years. Was working fine.

    • 5 years would be a good run. Then they go to landfill.

    • I only bought a new one recently (Samsung Q6, the 2018 model) but my 32inch Samsung LED is nearing 10 years old now and still going strong.

  • +1

Would the Q60 be a better buy over the ru8000?

    • +2

I did some research before buying the Q60, on paper it is meant to be better in terms of blacker blacks and better technology. I haven't owned the ru8000 but been pretty happy with the Q60 so far

    • I am havIng exact the saem dillema. or should I wait a little more I dunno

    • I had the same choice. Went with the Q60, don't regret it.

      • Because of the difference in price I am more for the RU8000… I will probably get a 65" TV by saturday but at the moment I am not sure whether will it be a RU8000, Q60 or X8500. I do not want to spend more than 1100-1200. prefer 1K : ))

    • +1

They’re virtually the same TV. Getting the extra 10”(hyuek hyuek) with the RU8000 is well worth the extra cost imo.

  • +2

Amazing price for the QLED. I got one from them few months ago on black friday sales thinking it was a good deal then… now its almost $200 cheaper :( The TV is pretty awesome.

  • +1

These guys don't ship to Tasmania, has anyone successfully done a price match with GG or HN for these ebay sales?

    • +1

I picked up a 65" RU8000 from HN on 28/1/2020 in Hobart. Asked if they would match the eBay price, but they wouldn't. They did however take $200 off the $1695 price tag when I showed them the price on appliancesonline.com.au ($1456 incl. delivery). They wouldn't match the price, as appliances online has no stock. But came close to it, so I grabbed it. I compared screens between the RU8000 and RU7100. RU8000 was noticeably better. I was tossing up between the LG SM8600 (which incidentally
had a terrible picture and looked worse than the SM8100. Strange) and RU8000. Apparently the LG has less reflection, which was quite important to us, but the grey looking blacks of the LG in a dark room shied me away from it. Happy to say the RU8000 is a lot less reflective than my 10yo UA46B6000VF Samsung TV, which cost me $2300 back in 2010. Picture is bright, with rich colours and blacks are good. Very happy.

  • Is the the cheapest price ever for Sammy 65" RU7100?

  • Haven’t heard good things about the RU7100 - is the general consensus to stay away from this model?

    • +15

Got the 75. For the price its amazing. If you are some TV reviewer who gets a hard on over the depth of every colour well its prob not for you. TBH we watch netflix, youtube and the kids watch some shows. Its not getting non stop 4k blu ray with atmos speakers blaring. I think people need to work out what they actually need from their TV. Is this OLED. No. For the average punter is it good - yep.

      • thankks for honest feedback. been umming and ahhing for a while on this or waiting for R8 to price drop, but will make the trip to JB on Thursday to try and price match this

        • +1

Let us know how you go getting JB to price match the TV!

      • +3

Agreed. One day this year I’ll get the Mrs to agree and we’ll be coming from a 2012 LG with bad Netflix and an average 1080p picture - anything beyond that for day to day and some gaming with the odd fancy 4K once a month will be better.

Then in 6 months regardless of what we buy, there will be better and buyers remorse. A few weeks of regret and 5-7 years of good for now viewing. If we are lucky the little one might put a wii remote through it in a few years and a newbie will have to be bought again. It’ll be better and the cycle will begin again.

      • Thanks for the review!

Have you done any gaming on it?

        • I've not received mine, but I've gamed on my brother's. It is really good. The RU7100's best feature is it's gaming potential. Very low input lag.

      • I am still thinking 65" RU8000 or 75" RU7100.

May be larger screen is better.

        • when is bigger not better.

          ba doom-tish

          • @chriskq:

            when is bigger not better.

Just thinking around the same price whether RU7100 75" or RU8000 65".

I understand of course the picture quality RU8000 is better.

            • @superforever: yeah was just banter, but i would be leaning towards bigger always.

(throughout different houses) i've gone: 42" lcd to 55" plasma to 65" plasma - and i'll be going for the 75" lcd later this week. Too hard to justify the 82" for the price difference

      • Have not done any gaming on it. Dont own a console. As I said IMO this is an awesome TV. We updated from a 1080 plasma which I loved. The blacks were amazing, no blooming, just a solid 60 inch plasma that was top spec when we got it. Fast forward 7 years and it blew up, this was on sale and my parents had one of these and RU8000 82.

Watching the tennis today and its bright in the daytime, blacks are pretty decent (no they are not OLED and no this TV equally is not 5k for 55 inches). Few tweaks of the picture settings make the colours better and the refresh rate more natural. Real world - netflix, youtube, ABC kids. It's awesome. You want to sit and watch 9 hours of Lord of the Rings then do some 4k gaming and complain about every pixel - well buy the OLED and stop comparing a 1500 TV to a 5k TV.

  • +1

    postage $110 :(

    • Lucky you. No postage to Tasmania!

  • Looks like a great deal for a general purpose lounge tv, thanks OP.
Why not go 75" for that price!
Just need an Amazon price match now.

  • +3

I was looking at a TV from this seller a while ago and the postage was $40ish and now it’s $120. Typical.

  • +1

And where is the eBay Plus free postage!??

    • Tis not an EbayPlus item/seller

      • +1

        So few are sadly …
JB aren't much more ($1468), yet offering free delivery at least.

  • +1

    Postage:
    AU $110.00

    no thanks…

    • Yep no deal, $180 to Perth :/

  • Have to use PayPal to buy, according to eBay consultant. I have had no luck with cards for about 10 attempts now. =-(

    • Credit cards or gift cards?

      • Credit card didn't work. Dunno about gift cards but you may not be able to use POPSICLE with gift cards. Worth a try if you have a GC already.

  • Is the RU8000 65" good or bad…..can't decide over the LG SM8600 65" Opinions?

    • if you go LG, make sure you do your research and check that the sub pixel arrangement is not RGBW. Otherwise you aren't getting the full 4K resolution but only 75% of it.

    • Is the RU8000 65" good or bad…..can't decide over the LG SM8600 65" Opinions?

Most said RU8000 is better with contrast depends on whether you will use it in a dark room.

Get this if you're not affected by the marketing hype around OLED

  • +1

if the do that 75 inch for 1000 im sold

  • I guess the question is now which TV is more bang for buck. RU7100 or the TCL 75 P8MR?

    • RU7100 or the TCL 75 P8MR?

      I won't buy TCL.

  • Cant get the "POPSICLE" code to work in eBay :( anyone else have this problem?

  • $180 postage for me too.

  • Damn, are these the cheapest freesync TVs money can buy?

  • Is this an Android TV? and able to VPN?

  • Please update the link for 75" RU7100, new listing same price.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/UA75RU7100WXXY-Samsung-75-Inch-4…

  • Just bought 10. Step 1: Collect Samsung TVs… Step 3: Profit.

    • You know eBay have sold history?

  • If buy from them, do they normally call first to arrange when to delivery?

    • Yes. If they don't call within 5 business days give them a call.

  • F8500 & VT60 ftw

  • Is there any deals still like this going on the Samsung ru7100 4k 75"
