  • Last similar ozbargain deal to China was much better, only $300 return.

    • -2

Last one is from jetstar? You realize this is not a ryanair model airline and theres many more cities available? They also have to provide you with food

    • wow, that is cheap indeed.. does it fly to all the destinations (as per this deal) for $300 as well

      • I think this was the $300 return deal:
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48739

It was only to Beijing but you can easily book a connecting flight to elsewhere for cheap.

        • Connecting flights in China are really cheap. Or you could take the rail which is also cheap. Whatever pace you'd like!

        • thanks for the link..

But my point (and have posted other 'proper' airlines deals in the past), and probably a minority here, is that some people do prefer 'proper' airlines instead. I must admit I haven't flown with this one before :), but some people dont mind to pay a bit more to with non-budget airlines as it does have its advantages/conveniences for some, which is why I posted / and normally like to post those deals.

But damn.. how did i missed that deal of jetstar? :)

  • Uniquely Chinese….

Worth the price, however it's not much more better than a budget airline, with comfort much worse!

  • A relative flew on China Southern to China recently. Connection times to further flights in China are tight. Passengers were a bit rowdy (hardly the fault of the airline). But most importantly, no seat back entertainment. Bring a book or netbook to while the hours away.

  • Uhh China Southern. My family and I went to China with this airline and they separated all our seats! Also, my uncle's boarding pass would not print TWICE and we literally just made the plane home by minutes. We didn't even get the chance to say goodbye to the rellies because we would have missed the plane otherwise.

    Also their food stinks.

    • Yes, the food is pretty average. Bring your own snacks. For the price of the airfare it's hard to complain however.

    • People are never happy!

    • I've had a connecting flight on China Southern. It was fine. No complaints for the price we paid.

  • I flew with Southern China airline many times. The only reason is that it provides direct flight to Guangzhou.

Service, food and the airplane are all below average.
    Price is okay.

The food has never changed for ten years.

    • Ditto~ but would like to rectify that the aircraft itself is no different to others, just the 'interiors' suck……

      Cons: bad service, bad food, bad entertainment (literally non-existent);

Pros: Direct flight to Guangzhou/Canton, where you can connect to many other places.

      Price-wise, it's not always this cheap~

      • Guangzhou airport is probably the worst I have ever used. You queue for almost an hour for passport control and then another hour for security. I arrived at the gate about 15 minutes after the plane was due to take off and was one of the first there! It seems all the planes were late and that was the norm. Not nice when you are on an unchangeable ticket and you are scared the plane will leave you stranded behind.

Mind you, I used to pay $400 on Air Asia return to China via KUL and my next flight is costing about $600. The price is much higher for next year and so I won't be flying with them again. $600 on a 'proper' airline seems quite good in comparison……

        • i was stuck on beijing tarmac airport for 45 minutes, waiting for my flight to get clearance for take off, it is normal if your flight get delay, and it is not normal if the flight depart on time on the main city, it is on time only when you fly to the small city.

    • Do you know if Air China is any better? For October-November, Air China is a bit cheaper? Thanks.

      • +1

My mum said Air China was way better and she hated China Southern.

  • A couple of comments:

    • China Southern (according to their website) does not fly to/from Perth

    • internal flights in China are not cheap.

    • I heard the news they plan to do that, so maybe the website is not update.

Please Do not fly with this airlines though it is cheap. We have a horrible experience with them and still haunting us. Do not take risk of your own life. They can lock you up and harass you whatever way they want. We were group of people traveling from Amsterdam, without any reason they took us out of the aircraft in China (while in transit) and pushed us to wait for 24 hours in the Airport boarding gate with no water or food even though we had a two year old child with us. They are inhuman, dishonest and abusive.

You've posted two messages about how bad China Southern is. Which airport were you stuck at? It sounds like a problem with inflexible local officials and not having a valid Visa (transit passenger) rather than the airline playing games "without any reason".

    • it has to be something, no smoke without fire, you just hide something in your story, your story smell fishy. if someone locked me, i will asked them why. especially 24 hours and u don't know why? hmm sorry i don't believe your story

PLEASE DO NOT FLY WITH CHINA SOUTHERN>>>> I DO TRAVEL ALMOST EVERY MONTH FOR BUSINESS. THEY ARE THE WORST AIRLINE I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS.

    • ohhh yeah don't fly with china southern, and u do travel with china southern almost every month. hahaha joker

      • Neelahona flies for business every month, but it wasn't mentioned that he/she flies with China Southern on those trips. It would be very odd indeed if they continued to use the airline after the very poor experience.

guys, have anyone try call bestflights to get this price? in many promotions in the past, i did called them to get the price that they advertised, and they always use the trick what day u wanna fly, then i told them my day is flexible, just tell me what day for that cheapest price, but they always told me i have to give them date for them to be able to check, then i make up certain date, they told me nothing for that price, and i called them within 5 minutes after the rep post the bargain.
that is not the fist time, i even complaint and speak with the manager, and the manager only promise give me a call, but never happen.

    • Totally agree. Tried both calling them and using their website NEVER return the advertised price.

  • I have travel with them only once. We frequently asked them whats the problem but they did not provide any answer. We have the transit visa as well. I know its hard to believe but still we could not find any problem with our side.

    • Try a search on avherald.com for "China Southern" if you're interested. You might find the cause for your 24 hour ordeal.

  • I flew China Southern a few months back, with no real issues. I certainly wouldn't class it a "premium" airline, nor consider it of Qantas's standard, but as long as you were aware of that when you boarded, it wasn't a problem.

Last time, we managed to get "business/first class" (which were really just premium economy) for only $100 more than the standard flight - not finding any evidence of that now? Any online booking engines that you would recommend?

  • Thanks a lot:)

  • I normally check out the price from its own website, the Chinese version.

    Here is the English one.
    http://www.csair.com/en/index.asp
The website is slow and not user friendly, but it does provide the basic functions, which is exactly what you get from China Southern.

My experience is that price in this website fluctuates from day to day, and it provides the same if not lower price than other travel agents or portals.

And they don't tell you what date to get the lowest price ticket, only way is keep trying different dates within the promotion period.

  • never found the deals advertised with bestflights, and zuji offers cheaper prices than them outside of the deals

  • As a Chinese, Chinese Southern Airlines are a disgrace. Most of the above comments are certainly true - food, service are poor. Uncomfortable, rowdy Chinese ppl…definitely fly with other airlines!

    • Thanks for the input. Air China is better?
