Toilet paper is back on the menu

Pretty sure you're not supposed to eat it, but to each their own I suppose.

    • +14

And wifey says you call that foreply…? :)

  • +14

Paid $12.50 a pack last time.. stop price gouging 😂

    • +1

      Bloody thieves

  • +12

Same, paid $12.50 last time, not a bargain.

    • -7

Availability itself is the bargain at the moment!

      • An astute observation - I'll upvote ya!

      • +7

Availability is not a problem in my experience.
Visited my local IGA yesterday afternoon at 3pm; plenty of stock on the shelves.

        • Likewise. Woolies were empty and Drakes were full in the same shopping centre. In fact every Drake/IGA/Foodland I'cve seen have had loo paper. No idea why idiots would shop at Woolies anyway.

      • +6

Availability at a higher price is never a bargain. It’s convenience.

      • +10

they manufacturer toilet paper in Australia ya Egg head so while there is a delay on replenishment there will be plenty coming once they ramp up production which is already happening

        • +1

There were still empty shelves when I was at Coles last night.

          • @Lectory LED Lighting:

            last night.

            That is the problem.

You have to queue up before they open.

            • +1

@superforever: Right, maybe I will try again on Saturday morning : )

            • +3

              @superforever: And this morning too.

Because of the hoarders it means that normal people have to visit the supermarkets more frequently than they would care to. Of course this increases covid infection risks (especially amongst the elderly pensioners). Thank you hoarders.

        • +1

They did say that at least a month ago.
Edit: sorry, replied to old comment.

        • +1

Is there ability to ramp up production?
Not according to Adam Savage (of Mythbusters fame)… and it's a logical explanation, I'll paraphrase.
"TP has no demand cycle… the same number of rolls are sold every month. as a result TP manufacturers have optimised their production facilities to meet the flat demand curve. They are designed and run 100% of the time to produce the required supply. It's inefficient to have machinery turned off, so the machinery has been designed to meet the required demand."

Having said that, there's only so much TP that people need. So it'll settle down eventually.

          • @ESEMCE: Exactly. Regardless, the current spike in demand will be balanced out by a drop in the coming months. Coronavirus or not people are still shtting at the same rate.

If they ramp up production, they'll just end up with an oversupply.

Quilton 4 Ply Toilet Tissue, 30 Rolls, $20 + Delivery is a bargain when you can't even find with 20km of your radius where I'm.

      • -8

I can't buy a Ferrari within 20km of where I am, so is it automatically a bargain if they can deliver?

        • Yes, if the cost and effort to go get the Ferrari was more than the cost of it being delivered was.
In this case, the OP has not found anything in a 20km radius, so to have someone deliver it to their door is of greater value for less cost.
That's exactly the definition of a bargain.

You might raise a counterpoint, that the normal price for TP is $10, but if it's not available then it's automatically disqualified, because regardless of the price it cannot be bought, and thus can no longer considered to be a bargain.

    • +3

I saw a pharmacy selling 12 rolls for 12.99, still people buying it.

      • +9

        fools lol

        • +1

You must be the first people to stock up and create the panic then? :O

  • +2

i need the chemist warehouse 50% shopback again =)

  • +3

    • +10

That video made me sick. I cant believe how desperate people are. Its like watching ants before a storm.

    • +2

It reminds me of the footage of the boxing day tsunami, with a huge wall of debris being pushed up the street by the water

  • +2

Last time I purchased this it was $11.25 (Subscribe and Save). No way I'm paying this much!

  • And it's gone!

  • +1

So long as you bother to drive to an outer suburb, coles and woolies have put limits on them now; most have very low; but some stock again.

    Calm down people.

    • +8

Hey mate, the deal is now locked to comments but saw your name so wanted to say thanks. Your name is now eternally etched into my ute's inner shell.
Done both front doors and will tackle the rear doors and floor this weekend. Just a bit nervous about taking out the seats with the airbags in them!

      • +5

        Aww, thats super cool!
        Thanks mate, means a lot!
        Genuinely…. I'm touched :)

Have you already noticed a difference?

Airbags can be scary; but you can be safe by turning your headlights, and accessories (reds) on while you remove the battery.
This will ensure that a few circuits in the car are closed (drawing power). Hopefully it'll pull any excess capacitance out of the vehicle trying ot keep them going for a few split seconds.

Even then, I always give the car a few hours to discharge.

While airbags are 'dangerous' part of that means that they're built to not go off accidentally; the odds of a problem are astronomically small, people are just extra cautious because IF it goes wrong, you can lose some teeth, or at least be up for a new seat.

        Glad to have helped :)

        • +3

          n'awww.

        • To be honest not really but I haven't been freeway driving and that is where the problematic road noise comes from. If nothing else, the door feels great opening and closing, just feels more sturdy.
I got the 3 in 1 sheets from Underdog for the floor as I couldn't find the Dunlop underlay you suggested and wanted closed cell foam for waterproofing. I put a square sheet of the 3 in 1 behind the speakers in the doors as well; I had music playing while I worked and I swear this increased the volume immediately.

Good advice re airbags. So in theory, the airbags cannot go off if there is no juice left in the car's electrical system? I'll keep my head down regardless!

          Thanks again.

@7hours 44min ago: Have a look for a fsm pdf, it will tell you the correct procedure. The method M.S. described is similar to what I do except I only leave the lights on as some immobilizer systems can supposedly get unhappy if you disconnect the battery with the key switched to acc.

  • Aaaaannnnd its gone

  • +4

I purchased the Pack of 45 deal for $20 today but see that's gone already too - was free delivery also.

    • Managed to snag that as well before it disappeared. Had to go into buying options for it to show up though.

  • At least Amazon is more generous - limit of 2.

  • +6

It’s 15 less and more expensive ?? Why ?? There is no crisis of stocks , only demand is slightly higher , but supply still plenty !!

    • +11

Actually, demand isn’t higher, because no one is shitting more the last I heard.

Simply hoarding is high, so there will certainly be a glut of toilet paper sometime in the future.

      • -1

Demand is higher because of hoarding - Use isn't higher, because no one is shitting more….

        • I cant help the stupid

  • +3

I am looking forward to ebay listings for vintage toilet paper in 15 years time, "COVID-19 vintage toilet paper with receipt"

    • We’ve got an upcoming locust and rodent plague that might see some hoarders using their supplies sooner than expected.

      • The federal budget might have to go into deficit but we definitely have a surplus in toilet paper. Maybe a toilet paper tax is on the agenda.

  • The 45 rolls $20 popup for a min and gone

  • Ozbargain has cleared the virtual shelves of TP at Amazon.

  • why do u need 4ply? isnt 3ply good enough? if not might as well go buy sandpaper

    • the more the better

    • +2

you can separate the layers in a sheet into 2 ply, so end up with 2 times as many sheets ….

    • have you ever tried emporium that stuff is fantastic

when its on special we always buy it, its a little pricey otherwise but nice toilet paper

it was actually on special last week during the TP Apocalypse and it was sold out of course

  • +3

invest in a bum gun and you save a fortune

  • +1

over 700 clicks in 22 minutes… impressive..! still doesn't help me with my TP situation at home though..!

    • I've been searching and cannot find anywhere near me in stock or they're sold out long before I can get there.

  • missed the boat, well, wait for next one

  • +2

Have to queue up before they open.

  • +4

Might be time to start trading toilet paper futures

    • As long as you are taking a short position.
With so much hoarding, there will be reduced demand for quite a while.

  • Got one, actually needed it. It said 4 left in stock and the order page kept refreshing with nothing in cart but finally added and processed and then saw no more stock. Sorry to those who missed out and needed it too :(

  • Sold out.
    (profanity) i can't even take a shit.

  • ordered this last week from Amazon, arrived today.

  • +1

    Bloody thieves!

  • +2

It will be funny when all the crazys that bought 3000 rolls at top dollar see the huge specials that will follow soon. The shops won't be able to give it away.

  • I thought Amazon posted a message they will stop scalpers! looks like just lip service..

  • Anybody got problem with fastway delivery? My order arrived their Sydney depot but still not get deliveried for now! That's the worst courier from my recently experience.

    • oh i got 99 problems and fastway accounts for all of them. they're useless.

      • Finally the package was lost. (profanity) fastway!!!!

        • sorry to hear :(
