Next day delivery is also free

    • Good info. I did not know that.

    • +2

Darn now I feel silly ordering two from Goodguys. Officeworks do next day delivery in my area too.

      • cancel the order

        • I ordered this morning but they claim it is already on its way.

  • +2

what is the extra benefit of having apple tv other than mirroring screen? I mean smart TV almost do most already

    • +1

people subscribe to Itunes and apple movies if they are in apple ecosystem so it's an easy way to watch movies and listen to music if into apple especially if setup for family subscription …..

most smart TVs are Android, and probably don't get 4K movies from a subscription service.

    • +7

      Speaking for myself:
      1. Play games from Apple App store (Dance Now is a great exercise!)
      2. Apps are up to date and less buggy compare to built-in apps on Smart TVs.

    • +3

You will get updates for years more than a Smart tv would. And the apps will be less buggy.

    • +7

I’ve got a smart TV and got Apple TV after seeing it at a mates place.

I find it’s a much better interface, more user friendly and supported. Being able to type on your phone instead of a TV remote is nice. Far more polished experience. Not a must have but a very nice to have

    • +1

Not much that I can see. I have Apple TV on my old TV and a new TCL smart TV which has the Roku interface. The TCL is better in every way.
The other comments about less buggy might apply to older smart TVs but if you're buying in 2020 that no longer applies.

      The possible benefits are:
      1. You have bought into the full Apple ecosystem so it's seamless between devices.
      2. You have an old non-smart TV, and want the streaming experience (although I'd recommend other STB's that have more features than Apple for this (eg Nvidia Shield)

    • +1

Not much. Chromecast can do more like stream from PC and tablets and all kinds of things, is more discrete (you don't even see it) and cheaper.

      • +1

Chromecast is limited to casting from phone and computer only. It doesn’t have a built in software. Also, Chromecast doesn’t support multi viewing like picture in picture mode, whereas Apple TV does for apps like Kayo you can have 3 games playing at once.

    • +4

If you install VLC media player on it you can play any file format you like on it that's stored on your network. It's great for all those totally legal files people have that they absolutely didn't download off the internet.

My Panasonic tv is hardly smart, no updates, only has half the on demand apps for TV channels, Missing things like Plex, access to any iTunes purchases, and like all apple things, Just works.

    • It has a way better processor than most TVs. The unit is super fast, the interface is great, and I can stream a rip of my UHD discs with full Dolby Atmos and DolbyVision support. It reads just about any file format, so I have a 10TB drive hooked up to the network, and combined with infuse seamlessly watch all my 4K content directly from the drive.
The remote is crap, but my TV remote works with it, as does the remote app on my phone.

Not a bad price. A new Apple TV is rumoured for announcement soon - I wonder if inventory is being cleared in readiness.

  • Anew model would be more likely before Christmas don’t you think?

Anyway, not sure what a new model would bring to the table. It isn’t as though the A10X is a slug, it is still one of the fastest ARM SOCs out there.
Maybe enhance the gaming side with controllers etc? A bit more ram?

    • New models won't be $200, unless Apple feels like offering a big price cut to sell more of these things than usual. Which they might now that they are a streaming service.

      • Sure. This price is excellent for a pretty good tv accessory. I have a brand new hisense and I still use this in preference. I am very tempted to buy this for the other TV.
I was just saying that it is still probably a long time for the next version so I reckon it is a buy.

I suspect this is just officeworks price matching TGG.

      • There's been on a Music, TV Show and Movies streaming service on the Apple TV for years. It was called iTunes (Music, TV and Movies). But you had to pay for the Music, TV Shows and Movies but the service did stream the music and video to the Apple TV.

But i remember the days when it ended up you could buy an Apple TV 3rd gen for $99 at retailers not too long before the 4th gen came out. So this current gen might come down even further in price before the next generation is released.

  • The yesterday's deal "Apple TV 4K 32GB $199 + Delivery @ The Good Guys" (so more expensive due to delivery cost) got 120+ likes.

How come this hasn't skyrocketed in likes and isn't sold out yet.

Coz it was posted 30 mins ago?

      • some people might want netflix, Iview and a few other things and buy the $72 Vodaphone TV box ….

    • It's got 115 like right now.

  • can i use this to stream media from Synology DS918+ NAS via Plex? My LG smart TV has WebOS and Plex and Xplay apps are in TV are no good.

    • Yes. It has plex and a number of similar apps.

      • Thanks

        • If you are only using it for Plex save yourself ~$125 and get a Vodafone TV.
Mine works flawlessly with Plex and is far better than the Webos apps.

          • @at9: I was thinking of that - Apple TV / Vodafone TV / NVidia Shield. Does Vodafone Tv support 4K and bluetooth audio? thanks

            • @VAA: Yeah it does 4k and has never had to transcode anything.
I did connect my Bluetooth headphones up to it once and it worked fine but I haven't used it other than that time.

              • @at9: mm Couldn't get my Vodafone TV to bluetooth with my Bose headphones, and heard android Tv was a bit patchy. Also read somewhere VTV didnt support BT- whirlpool perhaps. Be good to double check this.

                • @dtoovey: just hooked up my WH-1000XM3 and they worked but very slightly out of sync on FTA but Netflix was fine

          • @at9: The Vodafone isn’t as capable as the ATV4K though, it is like a generation or so behind. The real competitor to an ATV4K would be the Nvidia Shield.

          • @at9: Does Vodafone TV support 24Hz,Dolby Atmos and Dolbyvision playback?

            • @Scrobo: I don't have atmos equipment but play files that I have with atmos and so gather it will depend on the app's pass through settings.
              No Dolbyvision only HDR10.
I believe it does 24hz but doesn't look great according to people on whirlpool.

    • Try the free VLC mobile app.

      • Not sure if VLC has this but Plex has watch history and multiple users (with Plex pass), which makes switching between devices seamless.

        • VLC doesn’t. But saves Paying for plex pass.

    • +1

Yes but you can chromecast just as easily if not easier, so why spend money you don't have to?

    • +1

Synology apps on Apple TV work great ;)

    • I personally would recommend a Xiaomi Mi Box S. Enables me to stream 4K HDR (direct play) with no issues, for less than half the price of the Apple TV 4K.

  • thanks ordered one!

  • This is a deal and good value, but this model is now nearly 1000 days old;

    https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Apple_TV

    https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/apple-tv/

    • That's almost 143 weeks ago!

      • That's almost 3 years ago!

    • There will surely be a new model soon with a much faster processor, but I doubt it'll be only $200.

      • I suspect it will be cheaper. Because, it’s not the hardware competition that apple wants to be in with apple tv, as they now have their own streaming service. They might even release a cheap one like chromecsst or amazon tv. And not to mention, they can afford to sell such device at marginal or no profit if they are eying for selling apple tv+ services.

  • +1

Can someone tell me what they’re using the Apple TV for? I thought Apple TV+ had heaps more content with what is really has. I just use it for Netflix.

    • -1

Yes I was seriously disappointed in it, to the point of being felt like I was ripped off. They call it Apple TV but there's not actually any way to watch TV on it. There's not even an antenna input! So here I was with a slow internet connection thinking this would integrate everything finally on one platform for my dumb TV but it doesn't even do TV, you know THE THING IN THE PRODUCT NAME. Bit of a farce.

Have a Chromecast Ultra now and it's much better at what it does (can stream from PC!), much more discrete, cheaper, and without trying to mislead me into thinking it can do live TV.

    • +2
      • Plex with Infuse, interface is more wife + kid friendly.
      • Live TV + DVB with HDHomerun
      • Steam Play for video game streaming
      • The usual smattering of catch up apps, plus UK's iPlayer (using Getflix for smart DNS)
      • +1 steam link and Bluetooth controller

    • I also use it as
      1. Games console.
      2. Apple Home Hub (compatible devices like door lock and door cam).

  • Guys I have the previous generation (non 4k) version. Other than 4k (my TV is 4k with upscaling), is there any other benefit ?

    • The processor is much more powerful, but I don’t think it makes a huge difference outside of games.

    • +1

      HDR / Dolby Vision

  • FYI JBHifi - WONT price match.

    • MacArthur Central in Brisbane priced matched for me. Took all of two seconds. Asked for a price match. Showed my phone. Went to the counter and paid $189 with gift card discount.

  • Not sure about this orthe Nvidia Shield/Shield Pro

    • Go Nvidia Shield/Shield Pro if you don’t have any apple products.

  • +1

Great Price. I bought one for these benefits
    1. Apple TV+ with 1 free year
    2. Disney+ app supports both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (No other device does this on the Disney+ App as far as I'm aware)
    3. User interface is easy on the eye with spectacular drone screensavers

    • +1

Even my 2 year old 2018 LG OLED E8 does DV + DA on the Disney+ app on the TV !

  • Thanks OP, picked one up from Officeworks for $186.

    • How?

      • Officeworks pricebeat this deal as per their policy.

        • Errrrr…. That doesn't make any sense ?!?!?!? They can't price beat their own price, that they are advertising on their own website! lol
Whoever did that at which ever store you went to. Was not thinking correctly! haha But good score!

  • Hi
Can Apple TV is used to play games as on iPhone

    • The games you paid for on your iPhone and iPad can also be downloaded and played on Apple TV. Basically you pay for the app once, and download/play on multiple devices (family members can share too).

      • That's if you have a compatible gamepad controller. Such as the Xbox One S or Dualshock 4 controller.

  • I was looking at this or Amazon Fire Stick. I ended up getting the Fire Stick yesterday from JB for $59 (negotiated). I've owned a MiBox3 for years, and am sick of buggy "smart" TV's. After installing KODI on The stick, it's got everything I wanted, including Amazon Prime, Kanopy, Netflix, YouTube, Stan, Apple TV+, etc. I loaned my ChromeCast to my mother a few days ago and she's probably looking to buy one now, but for the same price I'll be telling her to get a stick instead.

I'm sure the Apple 4K is awesome, but I like the flexibility of the stick, and you can still watch Apple stuff on it anyway, not to mention it's a lot cheaper. I know it's not 4K, but I don't watch anything in 4K anyway.

    • Does the stock support Apple airplay? I.e. you can cast your iPhone screen to a TV?

  • I don't like Apple ecosystem but can anyone install third party iptv apps??any suggestions or recommended apps.

    • Apple TVs can be jailbroken, so it should be possible.

    • builds.io

      • Thank you

  • Can this bitstream dtshdma and truehd and also atmos/dtsx?

    • -1

      Yes.

      • thanks.
        is mrmc or infuse better?

        • +1

infuse is the best there is for tvos. Bought mmc first then after trying infuse I uninstalled mmc

    • Nope, it can't do proper Atmos, and no DTS:X

      • If I have a dtsx and atmos file will it downconvert to dts hdma and Dolby true Hd?

        • Good question, to be honest I'm not sure what it outputs those as. Sorry.

Unavailable for delivery: Temporarily out of stock

    • It's free delivery. I have just tested, still working for me.

      • I can add to cart but then going further, it says "Temporarily out of stock"

        • I got all the way to the last stage, where it asked for payment details.

          • +1

@Buy2Much: doesn't work anymore I guess. anyway, could be just me. happy for others to try and report if needed.

            • @fifoo: I am in Melbourne and facing same problem. If I select a Brisbane address, no problems in buying.

  • just ordered one with pick up at OW North Sydney - original ETA Friday. 1 hour later got an email it is ready for pick up.

    • Officeworks are handling all the extra business surprisingly well.
I've ordered a few things online from them and it's come same day every time, for like $5 postage or free when I spent enough. Any household or office stuff I want, I check there first now, cause I know I can get it quick.
