$30 Menulog Voucher for Essential Workers, Battlers, Elderly and Those in Need @ Menulog

1766

Greetings everyone, seems like a generous offer from Menulog to support those in these difficult times :)

Amid the difficulties many Australians are facing as a result of the Coronavirus situation, Menulog is pledging $60,000 of free meals to those in need.

If you know of an individual or family that has been impacted or might not be able to get out to get food, for example they are an essential worker, have lost their job or are elderly, please nominate them to receive a $30 voucher on Menulog via the link below.

Please note, given the significant impact this situation has had on so many people across the country, all nominations will be reviewed to ensure vouchers are being distributed to those in need. We kindly request one nomination per person.

For terms and conditions, please see here.

You can only submit one nomination. If we receive more than one nomination from you, we will only consider the first nomination submitted.

The Menulog Voucher is valid for 30 days from the date of issuance.

$30 Menulog Voucher for Essential Workers, Battlers, Elderly and Those in Need

I don't see why they are giving them to essential workers when essential workers are working and can afford to pay for food.

The $60,000 would go a lot further if they focused on the Battlers, Elderly and Those in Need……….

Start your own delivery service then. If you need food, try JV's Log!

      • +43

        All he’ll deliver is sarcasm

          • @jv: Please get offline Grandaddy…

      • +15

But will JV's Log have any bargains?

        • +3

What will be the usual price?

      • Did somebody say JV Log!?

    • I agree.

    • +11

A cut to the high percentage they charge struggling restaurants would be more essential in my book.

    • +15

JV certainly doesn't need any of these vouchers https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/79086/ad2bdf8b-a…

      • +4

As per the web link.'If you know of an individual or family that has been impacted or might not be able to get out to get food, for example they are an essential worker, have lost their job or are elderly, please nominate them to receive a $30 voucher on Menulog via the link below'.

    • Everyone likes to feel special.
Perhaps after a free well, they will then send the goodwill to the next person

    • +11

Why do you presume that essential workers are making that much? Right now I work and may get a little over $45,000 a year after tax. Between rent assist and Centrelink currently I could be getting $42,421.60 without tax, without a job, and without the expenses while working as well.
I'm sorry JV but sometimes you talk too much. Sure this isn't the case for everyone but some of us still very much appreciate these things more then you clearly realize, especially with the risks we are now taking.

      • -7

I work and may get a little over $45,000 a year after tax.

Lots of people have lost their jobs and can't get Jobkeeper, that is only paid to employers who stay open.

They are the ones that need the real help at the moment.

$60,000 of vouchers wont go far if people who already have jobs use them all up…

      • +1

they should exclude 200k doctors and surgeons. they are on top earners list and can pay this closed eyes.

the rest health workers are on average or below wage in health payroll than jobkeeper program, do nothing and get paid by federal government.

        not judging.
rolls eyes on 200k doctors that registers. more needy people out there.

        • +1

Yes and hospital management is head over heels overstaffing nurses and doctors (matriarchy perhaps, or personal bias previous work as a nurse) and quick to push for cuts and understaffing for other essential workgroups (radiographers, cleaners, technicians, PSA's, stores workers). Not having a dig at nurses, just the way it is currently. Imagine the public squeeling and uproar if there was some nurses to complain publicly. There is quite the culture I have observed in the public opinion of nurses. It is very different to the opinion of those people I know who work with them. Not all but some.

        • Why exclude 200 thousand doctors and surgeons? That's a lot of people to exclude.

Most people are misguided thinking doctors are top earners… the majority are in fact underpaind relative to their earning potential and only see decent earnings when they are fairly old/senior doctors.

    • Elderly? Some elderly are very well off.

    • Why don't you risk yourself first treating sick people then we'll talk.

      • No more at risk than hospital workers.

There are only about 100 live cases in Vic.

  • +17

Once again, it's everyones responsibility not to abuse this if you are currently well off.

If you are in a difficult situation by all means, go for it!

    • +3

      👍

  • +3

Unfortunately I think a lot of people will nominate themselfs/people who are not in need at all, just greedy bastards!

    • +2

    • +5

      Who are you talking to?

      • -2

That was supposed to be more of a futile fist pump into the sky

    • -5

Replace "essential worker" with "frontline healthcare worker" please …

So they can take away the food vouchers from the battlers that have lost their jobs and are doing it hard???

      • +13

Frontline healthcare workers are at most risk of contracting this virus, and are overworking to what is an already stressful job. Whether they still have work or not is irrelevant. They deserve any assistance/help they can get. Those who lost their jobs are supported by the govt. no?

        • -7

and are overworking to what is an already stressful job

          link please?

how many active cases in Vic ???

          • +5

@jv: There have been several cases around the world where healthcare workers have died because they contracted the virus from patients. I made the point that they're at most risk which is true and that really should go without saying.

In Australia we have seen relatively low cases and deaths, but that doesn't take away from my point. Should they only be helped when we start to see healthcare workers getting the virus?

          • -1

@jv: no active cases in vic = no claims from their frontline health workers in vic then..
but vic state is not all states.

          • @jv: Not many. The storm never came. And just because other countries aren't equipped to deal with airborne particle precautions, thus they get contaminated, doesn't mean Aussies HCW do. Aus is right up the top in the world, right behind Switzerland and Japan. Out of how many hundreds of country?! Lol mainstream media has them in hysteria. Ask yourself, how many under 70 non obese patients died in Australia from covid. Then ask yourself what was the average lifespan of someone 200 years ago. Maybe these two facts will chill everyone

        • +2

They deserve any assistance/help they can get

So they are more deserving to get a $30 food voucher than someone who lost there job and can't pay their rent and bills and is struggling to pay for food?

          • +2

@jv: I never said they are more deserving. I'm merely pointing out that they shouldn't be excluded which is what you're suggesting.

Are those who lost their jobs supported by the govt. through welfare and other means?

          • @jv: This is australia… the government gives free money to those that need it. They most certainly won't be struggling so bad that they need a $30 food voucher

        • +8

I'm an essential worker and I make on par if not less in some weeks than those on Jobkeeper currently… :/

          • +4

@Slut: Yep which is why I don't think essential workers should be excluded from any forms of assistance even if they still have work. That's not to imply those on jobkeeper are doing fine however.

          • +4

@Slut: Couldn't agree more. My sister is a registered nurse, and her salary is absolutely pathetic for the level of skill and years of experience she has, and especially for the essential function she performs in our healthcare system.

Reading some of the other comments, this offer isn't a pissing contest about who's more worthy than anyone else, it's not an opportunity for virtue signalling. It's a small chance to say THANK YOU, I am thinking of you, you are appreciated. It's a chance to relieve the burden of someone who needs support, if only for a single meal.

There are MANY, MANY people who need support out there, and it would serve them well to take whatever action is within your power and means to do, whenever you are able to do it.

I am immensely grateful that I continue to have a job when so many others do not, and can help out in other ways through that work. Still, I nominated my sister to receive a voucher, and I have no qualms about doing so. She is an absolute legend, and the work she and her colleagues do on a daily basis is more than worthy of me spending a few minutes of my time filling out a web form.

Also, to Menulog, THANK YOU for this gesture. It will make a difference to a good number of people. I would love to see this offer extended, or repeated in the future.

            • @cmackOTI: What is her wage? If they have full time shifts in a hospital they make great coin. If working somewhere else or not full time hours, maybe not so great.

              • +2

@serpserpserp: Great coin? Are you joking? Seriously not sure if you’re trolling. Mate no they don’t.

Look at the ABS, look at the RN pay grades, look at the numbers in each grade, then look at the work they do at that grade. They are criminally underpaid. So are paramedics, so are ENs. So are teachers for that matter, and a good many people in this society who perform essential work, and by that I mean skilled work which is essential to the fabric of our society which is undervalued.

                • +1

@cmackOTI: There are registered nurses I know who are leaving the profession to clean houses for more money. Yes, working full time, yes, working at a hospital.

    • Why? Frontline healthcare workers are already essential workers.

  • +4

Some essential workers can’t afford a $30 takeaway.

    Just sayin.

      • +18

You and your comment are obviously non-essential.

      • 1.30 at woolies.

      • Perhaps they're too busy working. Luckily those who have lost their jobs have all day to bake their own loaf of bread for cheap!

    • +9

yeah it's funny isn't it, a Maccas cashier job is more secure than an airline pilot atm. I think this whole thing shows us all how undervalued and underpaid essential workers actually are. The stockbrokers and bankers who make millions are entirely unessential whereas grocery workers etc definitely are. Just goes to show how skewed neoliberal capitalism is that it gives the least reward to those most essential.

      • +2

And if anyone is praising any type of essential workers now it's only done out of trendines lol, sad world we live in.

      • -1

Given opportunity, A pilot can do any cashier job with no or minimal training, if they are willing, but not the other way around.

      • -2

are you saying we should pay maccas workers and pilots the same salary?

        • +7

No. I'm saying we should pay essential workers more. The statistics of check-out cashiers dying in the States is scary, and for what, how many dollars an hour? No investment bankers are out there risking their lives, but the people in the lowest-paid jobs are actually risking their lives every day to go to work and for a pittance. It's brutally unjust.

  • +1

The link you provided is just the home page ?? Also loading it on my phone just loads the app to the home page??

  • +1

I mean I work at Bunnings and I'm considered an essential worker… but I wouldn't go for this.

    • +3

      the $1 sausages are better

  • The Prime Minister said anyone with a job is essential. I guess he might use the deal too.

    • he said his kids is sick to go school before lockdown and stays home before lockdown. he said school is safe too.

He is not essential worker, essential flipper. :)

      • -2

        Great idea!

      • +4

You two are scumsucking leeches. You should be ashamed of yourselves, even if this is a troll as I suspect

    • +1

Talk about being greedy. Should have taken one and left the rest for others. They only have 2000 vouchers nationwide.

      • -2

        1996 now

  • +3

Most people would have recurrent nightmares from the battles I've witnessed at Pokémon Stadium. Thanks for the gesture. It's about time us battlers received some form of recognition, when our own government thinks of us as mere "gamers". But I'll spare my voucher for someone else.

    • Thank you for your service. ♥️

  • I qualify again ;)

  • +1

I left a food hamper for my doctor yesterday. Was afraid he was struggling to put food on the table.

  • How to get it?

    • +1

If you need to ask, you're probably not essential

      • Thanks for the info

  • can i nominate my dying grandma, as well as myself?

    • -1

      we're all dying.

      • That wasn't the question jv.
You definitely qualify as "those in need".

  • Will the $30 waive the delivery?

  • Ooh, I'll tell some essential workers (at work.)
Hopefully they tell the other call centre. we can only get Menulog delivered to work.

  • -1

This is great on the surface, but I have always been a bit wary about Menulog. AFAIK, the burden of these offers and discounts are generally borne by the restaurants themselves, not to mention the standard surcharge.

I know that this is targeted at the most in need and they may not have the luxury of choice, but if you want to do right by restaurants (who are also suffering) it might be better to avoid Menulog (and their ilk), pick up the phone and order direct.

    • +1

I nominated a guy I know who's struggling (council housed, no work, car scrapped, and living on budget bread, pasta etc to get by). I look after him where I can, but having it delivered would be a treat for him too. I am also aware this online ordering model takes from restaurants cut, but also heard Menulog fees are a less than uber eats etc. If I hear anything back or have insights to the 'authenticity' of the offer I'll share a post here for others.

    • +1

I highly doubt the restaurants are expected to take the hit for vouchers/discounts provided by Menulog, but they do pay a percentage in service fees for each order, which is fair enough as Menulog is providing a valuable service and allowing them to reach more customers. I do not agree with restaurants raising their prices on platforms such as Uber eats/Menulog. Food prices in this country are extremely high and if they can't wear the cost of being on these platforms they can choose not to, they would still be making profit after fees so no real reason to complain.

  • According to the PM, given I have a job right now, I'm an essential worker.

  • Who pays for this?

  • +6

Has anyone nominated Someone and received the voucher yet ?

    • Not here

    • Nothing at all

      • Don't quite understand this deal or when they will give to people. Had anyone tried to ask a menulog rep or found any finer details

      • Nothing

    • Nothing here yet either.

    • Nada

    • +1

I never received anything either and I actually nominated a frontline worker. Seems they just aren't honouring this promotion?

    • Nope, nada.

  • +2

So how do you even start?

  • +2

when do they give the $30 vouchers? or did they reject my dying 80 year old grandma that has cancer who can't leave the house?

  • So did anyone actually get this?

    • I haven’t heard back yet.

  • Link no longer exists, looks like they received too many nominations.

  • im an essential healthcare worker and havent got mine yet either

  • I applied for one as I fall under the category, but have not received it yet.
