ACCC advertised printed price, and online. Yeah, no!

  • +2

Gee, this is bad. I mean it was in the catalogue FFS, how did an error get that far? Although I didn't bother to order, pretty much knew how this was going to end.

    • They used a previous template from the non-max version and didn't change the price? Who knows, but annoying for us all the same.

    • And the fact that they are not even offering any kind of compensation in the form of a voucher or store credit or whatever is just bad practice. OW are the real good guys here.

      • Their respond was bad

      • +1

their voucher will be some crap $10 with $60 min spend
and now you need to buy some crap from their store that can be bought cheaper elsewhere..

      • they fk it up obviously but compensation for possibly hundreds if not thousands of people, make no business sense for them! I'm one of those sucker. fk TGG

  • Order cancelled, should have attempted price match first-thing. Oh well.

  • Received a cancellation call saying they didn't have enough stock! Now to eBay to leave negative feedback :(

    • FYI all negative feedback will get removed by eBay.

  • +5

Can we all leave them 1 star because of the mistake they advertised on the catalogue too?

    • Yep!

      • I will neg my local store and ebay

        • +2

Maybe also protest outside the store for a few days.

          • @jv: Not if you are in VIC or NSW, is it considered essential? ;-)

            • +1

              @Buy2Much:

              is it considered essential?

Yes, it is to be used for health care purposes.

            • @Buy2Much: just walk around their store carpark and if asked..
just tell the police you are exercising

          • +2

            @jv: Too cold

          • @jv: you must have a lot of free time to protest outside their store for a few days
not to mention now you need to bring food+water, warm clothing and a tent

sure…, if you do it first
maybe some more people may join you and then it would be more impactful

BTW don't forget to bring your banners and pitchfork..

No, they've been staggered since around midnight last night.

      • +2

Your posts are always staggering jv.

  • When in-store to check, confirm as a pricing error and they are not honouring the deal anymore.

    • They are not honorable then?

  • Luckily for TGG, Paypal is currently waiving fees for chargebacks https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/covid-19-relief

    • +1

We’re waiving fees on any chargebacks processed between 26 March 2020 and 30 April 2020

Doubt they will be that quick processing thousands of orders.

    • I'd say they are on the highest PayPal tier plans, and hence probably don't get chargeback fees anyway…

  • +1

Still getting the price in google adverts… what a complete s^#*show.

  • +11

I Wasn't going to wait until I got a call so I called them. Gave me the excuse that they ran out of stock as they only had two in stock and those sold to people who came in before I called at that sale price. Unnecessary detail and her voice was quivering and it was obvious they had been told to lie. I asked when there would be more and they said they were on backorder. I then asked how long and they said "two to three months". I pointed out that they still had them for sale online but at a higher price and was then told it was a pricing error. Asked when I would have been told and I could just hear the sickness and panic in her breathing so I just asked when I would be refunded and she said 3-5 business days in a relieved tone.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt on this one but enough is enough. It's a pretty major stuff up yet again. I'm still seeing advertisement banners and the like for the hub max for $129 (https://imgur.com/tthIykV) so it was hardly an accident. Creating all the different graphics for the ads aswell as putting it on the site and catalogue and ebay having passed how many pairs of eyes?

Then they get their poor staff to face the wrath and lie about it all adding ridiculous things to make it seem like they are indeed good guys who honoured the deal before running out. It now just looks like a deliberate tactic because they keep getting away with it.

    • +25

I have written an email to customercare and also submitted a report for on ACCC. I cannot just let them get away with this again. It has happened again and will happen again.

      • +3

It happens way too often, whether it is a intentional or not it's pretty ridiculous. They've had the same thing happen with the Switch and an Xbox deal. I don't know any other company that struggles so much with putting the correct price on their products

        • Does anyone remember how they handled the Switch Lite deal? Just no compensation no nothing and that was it?

        • Every do what stated above

        • +1

at least with the other companies like amazon or bunnings they really do compensate for their errors

GGs might give you a $10 voucher but with a minimum spend
then you can use it but now need to pay for their overprice goods that can be bought cheaper elsewhere

      • +7

Took them 2 seconds to deduct the money but will be 5 to 10 days to get a refund! This is a scam!
I asked them if i could go to the store and get a refund there and was told no. This is the business process and a whole lot of other crap

        • +5

Exactly, keeping our money on their balance sheet or other means to create more wealth and equity, then refund our money when it is convenient for them.

      • I will prob do the same. I can understand a price error in the website but they've listed it as a hot buy on their weekly catalogue (which I assume will be in print as well) at the same time.

        • No one proofreads them. I guess they really get away with many things many times hence no correction needed in the process. Life goes on. In more civilized countries, they have to honor the deal or they get sued. Less and less accountability as I say all the time in our modern times.

          • @ISO9002: It's impossible that none were proofread let alone EVERYWHERE. People also had to make the graphics for the ads and there were several different variants. I just saw another top page banner for the Hub Max so they haven't even retracted their third party ads.

I think this time people need to contact the ACCC. Most won't as it's a "hassle" but until people do, TGG will continue to do this crap. I thought they would have learned after last time but it's obvious they are now doing it deliberately. Lodging a complaint now…

      • I am happy to raise my hand for this complaint to ACCC. First misleading and then lying. Enough is enough. Not the first time they have done it.

        • +1

I have already emailed the "good" guys.at customer care. Have also told them that ive lodged a report with the ACCC. It would be nice if more people contribute and lodge their complaints to the agency to get some traction.

          • +1

@ISO9002: Have done the same. Hope others will also chip in to discourage this appalling behaviour.

      • I have done the same. I hope others do as well. Good on you for persevering mate - this is the second time I’ve been burned by TGG and it’s hard to keep accepting these things as “mistakes”.

      • Happy to do this too but did not experience the previous errors. If someone has already sent their complaint and has the details, mind sharing?

      • Did you get any update from ACCC?

        • +3

No, can you believe it? Not even an update or anything. Please don't tell me they're in this together or covering for them.

          • @ISO9002: You should follow up with them.

I've lodged it with fair trading and got a response from somebody there last week.

They are investigating my case at the moment.

  • +2

    Called the local store…
"Incorrect Pricing by Head Office, we're unable to process it… refund will come through in about a week or so"

    Blergh… what a joke.

    • +1

now Good Guys can make some bank interest $ off all the money that they nabbed for one week or so.

  • +2

So, just called my local good guys and they said they are cancelling all orders BUT we'll be getting a $20 voucher

    • Not for me they said they will refund the total only

      • Well, the guy read out the email maybe he wasn't supposed to mention it dunno lol

    • +1

I'll believe it when I see it.

    • +1

Aren't their vouchers usually expire within a week and with a minimum spend, which force you to buy something that you don't really need?

      • Hmm like a few weeks but listen, free is free.

        Just get a $20 item

        • +1

I'd be interested to see the details. In the past, I had a $10 voucher from that expired within a week, $50 minimum spend. Another $20 voucher had 3 days expiry, $250 minimum spend. I left them expired as there was nothing that I need there at the time that was cheaper than elsewhere.

          • @Buy2Much: this is their trick..

bait you with the price error item
give a voucher with minimum spend that force your to use it to somewhere that can be found cheaper..

            good guys profit!

            • @pinkybrain: Wait, will it have a minimum spending requirement on it?

I thought it was just going to be $20 off any item (no minimum cost), if thats true then that will suck

              • @BarginGrabber: Let us know when you get that (usually comes as SMS). Above was my experience from the 2 times I got their vouchers (not price error though).

          • +1

@Buy2Much: Mine is $20 no minimum spend but valid till 10/05/2020 only. I bought insurance for my camera awhile back and regularly get $20 vouchers… time to buy another cable…

  • +3

Don’t bother going to TGG store as I’ve just left empty handed despite having received 3 notifications to pick up. Tempe store.

    • Gah, what did they say? Not honouring? I ordered for pickup on ebay at Tempe at 1.30am but haven't heard a thing.

      • +1

You'll find that your order number would be invalid when you pick up at the store. When the staff checks the order based on your name, there'll be a note to say that there's no stock left due to price error. My advice is not to waste your time picking this item up from the store.

  • Do Officeworks also going change their mind? I placed order this morning

  • I'm sure if enough people contacted ACA they'd run a story about TGG having terrible practices.

  • +2

The Good guys did it again. It happened to me last year. They were selling the TCL P8M 75" for 645 on ebay. I bought it then they didn't honour it as well same reasoning "price error"

  • Nothing since this morning

  • -3

I was initially kicking myself that I missed out, but then I started reading reviews of the actual device and really wonder what people use it for? Expensive weather display perhaps?

    • really wonder what people use it for?

      Kitchen timer

    • For me it would be to automatically show the video feed from my front door when motion is detected, and also as a digital photo frame

  • Maybe they were just being sarcastic

  • wow. already have one but would have got another at this insane price!!!

Good job to everyone who managed to get one!

  • +7

    Just picked up at GG.

Was waiting at the front counter and saw another person trying to pickup the same item but got rejected. The lady was saying how she has to call 70ish people about the "price error" and it won't be honoured.

So I left and went to the back loading dock for contactless pickup and got it 5mins later.

    • Unbelievable. How did you manage to accomplish that?

      • +23

He left and went to the back loading dock for contactless pickup and got it 5mins later.

        • I understand but I mean how in the sense that the store should be alerted by now and no more trade made for this particular item unless its screened and checked before handing over. If this works, I might just drive over that and do the contactless trade.

          • @ISO9002:

I might just drive over that and do the contactless trade.

You need to remotely open your car boot.

            I don't trust them.

      • +1

Haven't seen The Office? Head office and warehouse don't really communicate…

    • If you didn't receive an email saying ready to pick up, let alone an approval from the front desk, how does the staff at the back loading dock hand it to you? This just doesn't add up.

      • I did received an email saying its ready for pickup

    • +1

So I left and went to the back loading dock for contactless pickup and got it 5mins later.

Nice way to say "steal" :p

  • Okay so I made delivery orders, questionable if they would have automatically generated postage labels. In doing so this would have generated thousands of labels and charged their accounts thousands of dollars

  • someone should start a petition lol jk.

  • Also if you have paid over $300 latitude pay which I only saw today, you may qualify for free 56 piece Jamie Oliver cutlery set which maybe free for you since they cancelled the order . Had a similar thing happen to me with super cheap auto, cancelled my after pay because I wanted to pay outright and got the free bonus qualifying item

  • +1

Not a price error. Got a call from a GG store stating they cancelled the alexas in my order but the nest was ok.

    • Are you sure you ordered the Max and not the regular one?

      • Thanks. I got it wrong.

  • Good luck to resellers of these. $130 is a good price but looking at FB and Gumtree, looks like people are now trying for $260 to profit.

Been watching prices for weeks now and private sellers have been sitting on them with prices at $250. There's one on eBay for $219 that no one's touching.

Best case scenario for resellers is $150 cash price or $190 minus eBay and PayPal fees.

Great price if you want one. Pretty average price if you're after profit.

    • +4

Sounds like you are a bit bitter.

  • The funny thing is I’m still seeing the google adds on this very OzBargain page as I comment for the Max at $129 lol.

    • +3

      They are wanted ads.

  • So many different people posting different things….

    What's the conclusion?

$20 gift card? Refund and Price Error, honouring it? I haven't received my cancellation yet.

    • same no cancellation yet

      • Same no cancellation

        • Just received my $20 gift card! better than nothing!

    • Same no call or cancellation. Will wait till Friday so I don’t make a wasted trip to collect

    • +1

Same here, no cancellation nor acknowledgement yet. The suspense is killing me. And to add to the suffering, the order history page on the site says my order is for pickup, but I opted for delivery and they did charge me delivery. So confused!!!

      • Yes says order is reader for pickup order history page but paid $8 to get delivered.
