Delivery shows as $28 even with my Prime account

"FREE international delivery on Prime international orders over $49"

  • +4

It's not free shipping for prime, unless you're spending over $49

    • -1

Buy 2 and gift one :-)

      • -2

That's the same price as local though so you don't end up saving, even if you get 2.

    • -3

It usually is. That's the point of prime . Maybe it's some sort of error in this case

      • not for items from the US, that was a limited thing

      • Us is different

    • +10

You could just add something that is temp out of stock, make the order and when the orders split cancel an item. I know this works because I've been waiting on something for ages and the price keeps dropping even though it's out of stock. Only way to get the lower price is to re-order and cancel the original- each time I add a few things.

  • +3

How I wish this was free delivery!

  • -1

Is the only difference for the newer model that it comes with a silicon Handle ?

  • +11

I got one of the 12" Lodge skillets last year when Amazon had free US shipping and it was one of the best purchases I think I've ever made.

    • Anything in particular you cook that works so well in this?

      • +10

Fried eggs and bacon are really delicious when done on cast iron. I also like using it for chicken kebabs (or any type of grilled chicken), steaks, chevapchichi sausages, grilled onions and the like. It goes in the oven well too so I've also used it for cast iron pizzas and roast veggies (particularly potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin).

        • +1

damn im sold now lol thanks

          • +2

@Dexdexter: Haha no worries. If you do end up getting one, maybe check out a couple of Youtube videos on maintaining cast iron (it's pretty simple). Cleaning and reseasoning after use will improve the pan over time.

        • +1

We got cast iron from Aldi. Had opposite experience. It was really here to clean and ended up have to put decent amount of oil while cooking otherwise everything would just stick. Not sure what we did wrong

          • +1

@yjun355: Hmm, maybe the preseasoning on the pan wasn't good enough. You could try looking up a guide on how to properly season (using the oven) and build up some more layers on it.

frozen dumplings fry up amazingly well in one of these.

I put in a thin layer of peanut oil and fill the pan with dumplings, give them maybe two minutes on medium-high heat to brown one side, then I flip them all over, pour water in so the dumplings are not quite half submerged, and then cover with a bamboo steamer lid. I give that about 6 minutes, then remove the lid to simmer off the rest of the water.

obviously the end result is going to depend on what dumplings you buy, but I love the way they turn out doing it this way, better than a restaurant IMO.

cast iron is also great for pancakes and smash-patty hamburgers.

    • I'd go for the larger size also, hard to cook anything in the smaller one other than for 1 person. Can fit 2 steaks in the 12" pan.

    • +2

No, you can't. Not Lodge brand

      • Can I ask what the differences are?

        • +2

One is lodge one is not

        • For one, Lodge's pre-seasoning is excellent. Where it appears cheaper brands it's not (see a users bad experience with a cheap aldi cast pan above).

        • Lodge has been making these for about 200+ years and they are still made in America

    • Do prove evidence of your claim

I have saved a couple Amazon US items in the cart, just in case I want to make them over 49 bucks for a free shipping.

I ordered this the other day Lodge LDP3 Rectangular Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle, Black
( and cancelled and ordered with this one tonight to get free shipping for this one)
have a normal cast iron and love it!
seems to be a decent price at the moment! similar to last ozbargain deal

    • I bought the 10.25" skillet last year and it's damn good for searing. That rectangular plate looks awesome though. Thanks for the link!

    • How did you get free delivery? Coming up as $28.81 for me (I have prime).

    • No good for induction I read

      • We use this with our induction cooktop, no problems at all.

        • so no issues only becuase its a small lip?

      • Its looks to have a lip all the way around on both sides? It may work with induction but wouldn't reach normal temp using the same settings as a flat bottom pot/pan.. You simply wont get the efficiency, as induction needs to be 'touching' so-to-speak..

  • If you just order one (with Prime):
    Items: $28.02
    Delivery: $28.81

    • and? The title clearly says that..

      That's why u order 2..

  • +1

Thank op. Bought this and these one as well

Lodge 10.5 Inch Round Cast Iron Griddle $28.02

Lodge 10.25 Inch Cast Iron Grill Pan with Helper Handle, Black $32.70

  • Really works on Induction cooktop? OP mentioned it but the website description doesn't mention it. Thanks.

    • +3

Cast iron pans and any black metal or iron pans will work on an induction cooking surface. Stainless steel pans will work on an induction cooking surface if the base of the pan is a magnetic grade of stainless steel. If a magnet sticks well to the sole of the pan, it will work on an induction cooking surface.

    • +3

Can confirm it does, just tried it on my induction tonight. Highly recommend!

    • +1

      100%..

We use cast iron pans daily on our induction..

As @jasontravelstheworld said, if a magnet sticks to the base, it's good-to-go with induction..

  • Bought the lodge 5 piece set back in December. These are amazing to cook in, especially on gas.

$49.95 for one (eBay) or $56 for two (Amazon). $28 if you go halves with someone.

Buy with this griddle and you get free shipping. It's also $28.02

Lodge L9OG3 10.5 Inch Round Cast Iron Griddle, Black https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00008GKDN/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i…

    • Yep i did that

    • Looks the right size for pancakes! Is cast iron suitable though?

      • sure is, works awesome for eggs/pancakes.. Just follow the you-tube guides on re-seasoning using oven method.. Factory seasoning is fine but doesn't last long, especially if u scrub it or use detergents..

  • Bought this one back in January 2018 for a little bit over $25 from a deal posted here. Have used it a few times but neglected it after that. I need to season it and start using it again.

  • +3

Ive always wanted a functional PUBG Pan.

    Thanks OP

  • Going to see lots of these on the market place soon. Heavy pan (undeniably wristbreaking if the sink is far away from stove then the there's the complicated process to wash properly. With lots of research, still cannot find one single correct method to rule them all.

    • +3

Its a 26cm pan. Use two hands if you’re desperate. Really
not that hard, wash like normal pan and dry/reoil.

    • +6

I researched for about 15 minutes and the majority just said to wash with hot water + scrub, dry thoroughly and apply a thin layer of oil.

      • Spot-on..

    • +1

You can try throwing some salt in there and scrubbing with some foil, then dump out the foil, quick wash under hot water and thoroughly dry.

I cheat and use coconut oil to cook with and nothing sticks, not even eggs.

    • I use hot water and a sponge with a scourer on the back, while the pan is still hot/warm (use an oven mitt to carry it to the sink). If you've let the pan go cold, reheat it on the stove for a little bit before cleaning (don't try to clean it cold). Then dry it off and heat it back up on the stove to dry off any remaining moisture and reseason while it's hot.

  • Is there any point in buying 2 and stowing 1 away for a few years? I bought 1 already along with Civ4 on Amazon prime earlier but I am wondering…

    • Great idea. Bought with Civ

  • These make the BEST pancakes, they take a while to heat up but so worth it. I usually have it on the burner while I'm making the batter.

    • Basic batter or is it a special recipe?

The best pancakes need a good maple syrup. I can recommend Crown Maple Syrup (aged in bourbon barrels), from Costco.

  • If you buy two is it possible to return one with prime right?

  • +3

Never owned cast iron, been researching on how to cook with them and look after them.

Bought two of these with the intentions of going halves with someone or selling the second, but now thinking it might be useful to have two to cook with at the same time (sometimes have to cook 3-4 steaks/grilled chicken), or possibly to have one for savoury and the other for sweet?

    • I bought this on a deal last year then purchased the complete set - on another deal Also some good maintenance tips/links in this post.. !

Never looked back - gave all my S/S pans away, just kept pots..

      • Thanks for the input, makes me even more excited to start cooking with cast iron!

  • Anyone in Melbourne, near Heidelberg area?

  • Bought two, was originally gonna go halves, then I was going to keep both for reasons, now I've realised the second will make a great mother's Day gift for mum.

Pays to be indecisive sometimes lol.

    • Mother’s Day 2021? Wow, you certainly plan ahead!

      • Don't get to see my mum for at least another month due to quarantine and flying. So nope, still this year!

Your sarcasm is appreciated though! Thanks bro!

    • Otherwise get some scrapers and silicon handles to get over $49.

  • Can not recommend this enough….
We have three of lodge cast iron utensils for the last 3 years.
We are planning to get rid of all our non stick cookware as they are unused for a long time.
We also hardly use our scanpan stainless steel set…unless we are cooking for a party.

Amazon US out of stock now.

  • Is it now showing as $54 ea shipped from Amazon AU because it's oos at Amazon US? Confused because the link is an amazon.com.au one.

  • Started with this 1 18months ago.
    Now have a 12 inch.
    A griddle.
    Crepe pan.
    Casserole set.
And a couple of those tiny baby ones.
Great stuff, the more you use them the better they get.

    • What do you use the baby ones for?

      • I don't. I saw them on ozbargain and bought 2 impulsively figuring I already have everything else so why not get it all…
One day I might need to fry a quail egg and I will be ready.

        • Lolol best ever

Mods going crazy again. It does not make sense to remove a lot of comments here. Instead of flooding the classifieds with a lot of individual posts, I argue that it is much better to just have them here in this post. Anyone else agree with me?

    • Seems like a spirit of the rule vs letter of the rule issue. In this situation organisation between users for a particular deal makes way more sense to do within the comments of the deal.

    • Commenting Guidelines:

      Soliciting Sales or Wanted Items
Do not advertise, draw attention to items that you are selling, or ask other users to contact you about your items in comments. If you want to sell your personal items, use the Classifieds Selling section. Similarly, if you want to obtain an item, please use the Classifieds Wanted section.

Not going crazy. It's our community guidelines. Making exceptions only causes issues for others attempting to sell things in comments in the future so we'd rather be as consistent as possible. Might be better in future to create a mega-thread in the classifieds and link to it in the OP.

      • I agree that we should not make exceptions. But these kind of buying/selling look different than the usual ones. Maybe the guidelines can be revised?
The problem with the classifieds is that it is already pretty hard to navigate/browse as there is no categorisation or classification structure. Moreover, most people will probably would not know that there are a lot of interests in banding together to get a specific deal, unless it is mentioned in that deal post.
It would be good if there is a feature to automate the creation of classifieds mega-thread that is prominently linked from the deal post.
