  • New games will probably be added 2nite at the event that xbox is having

Good timing, i never pay for game pass unless it's $1 haha

      • My speculation is that part of the Months of Hype coming up, they will address the pricing speculation by offering subscriptions for people to be "on the hook", but this also helps build launch projections for partners.

There may be a subscription / XGP deal coming up once the launch is over to subscribe hardware repayment and XGP Ultimate, under the All Access banner/program that Telstra has now.

Especially for Christmas. If it's not entirely delayed with Nintendo-level price fixing and infamous production slowdowns.

IMO, if it crosses over $1200 RRP, or $50/24 months pricing… It's going to be a "really" tough Christmas for some families that get shocked without forewarning of the price jump of $400 to $800 over the current Xbox One.

Part of the Series X launch has an emphasis on including a migration path for current X1 and X1S, X1X users to move their library across to the ~$1100 console launch pricing, which would move the cost from "iPad" to "secondhand car" territory, especially if it requires a newer 4K TV.

There might be a few "Ultimate" package deals that add a year of XGP, around $200 to soften additional accessories cost(s), and it's not clear if Xbox All Access that goes through Telstra will have XSX yet, but it's likely to require stock which will be unreliable for the launch demand.

        • +3

people have been using this for free or for only 1 dollar for months already. i think people can be decent enough to pay 10 dollars per month afterwards.

          • +1

@baldur: Agree, the deal is intended to be used to entice you to stay on the platform, which is quite a good one at that. I'm a paying customer, I would hate to have to have to worry about waiting for a dollar deal to enjoy it.

          • @baldur: it's the same Game Pass Ultimate launch deal as last year , so… /Shrug.

Its so you get hooked into the subscription at ~$200/year, $16/m bundling PC and Xbox games under the same umbrella subscription pack, they offered to roll up to 36 months of XGP and/or XBLG (Xbox Live Gold Membership) into XGP Ultimate for $1.

It's more like Netflix premium /Spotify prices, not $10

No big catch, but that you can't easily undo the deal during the 3 years, any added time gets exchanged at 54c/day and converted to XGP Ultimate, capped at 36 months. You could probably try to downgrade XGPU to XGP, but lose XBLG

if you add a year of XBLG to an account with XGPU it converts/exchanges to around 4 months of XGP instead by equivalent price, so an older Gold pass for 12 months, gets converted to days at about 55c/day.

It's possible to get deals to take advantage of the exchange. But YMMV.

          • +1

@baldur: Um, but we are OZBers and we've seen:

            • Microsoft offering one of these (or their previous GamePass, XBox Live Gold equivalent) every time a new first party exclusive is launched.
            • Regular $1 offering around Christmas, New Year holidays and often starting in November.
            • Even $1 for 3 month offers before (okay, that was for GamePass (console/standard)).
            • You can get vouchers via Microsoft Rewards (basically using Bing to search).

With Microsoft clearly not going to be able to make up enough lost ground in current gen console market share, there is no real need to go heavy on GamePass Ultimate now. Next gen might be a different story. However, given that we are in the decline phase of current gen, it is hard for OZBers to pay retail on GamePass Ultimate any time soon.

            • +1

@netsurfer: yes, if you are able to pay 1 dollar instead of 15 dollars, you can. what prevents you from doing so? if anything, we should be at least thankful for Microsoft to keep giving all those deals and vouchers you mentioned.

              • +1

@baldur: It's not that clearcut to be honest. I have not touched my Xbox One X console for at least 2 months now (and that's with active GamePass subscription). Gaming is entertainment, not essential. Some of the Microsoft rewards for console involve playing games which I would otherwise not play. At times, they get really frustrating so nowadays I generally don't bother. Bing search results can be frustrating too, except when it comes to blocked game spoilers, which Bing seems to still return results.

Then, there is the Xbox beta to get 3 months Ultimate for $1 conversion way back. It led to so many firmware updates on Xbox and it did some weird things to the inbuilt browser. How about the introduction of GamePass leading to all my previously purchased first party exclusive games tanked in value?

I still have some unused vouchers. Honestly, if it is $15, then Microsoft can keep it.

                • @netsurfer: oh okay you are a true ozbargainer, we are convinced.

                  • @baldur: Nah, let me guess, you have an active GamePass Ultimate subscription so that you cannot take advantage of this deal.

                    • @netsurfer: which i paid only 1 dollar for.
what are you trying to prove?

        • +1

especially if it requires a newer 4K TV.

What? There's no reason why it won't be able to output 1080p still.

          • @PainToad: Given the migration program, it's fine.

There's no rush to get the new Xbox at all if you don't have 4K.

Games made for Xbox One will work with all 5 different Xbox One's … until they make exclusives for XSX that require XSX features like Physics and Ray-Tracing, etc. Games will continue to be sold as Xbox One titles, you just download the extras, the same way that Xbox One X extras are downloaded. If you don't have a 4K TV … or a 60Hz-144Hz "FreeSync over HDMI" monitor, you don't need the Xbox Series X or Xbox One X, until they start making XSX exclusive games.

You'll also see merged packaging examples with the new logos.

If you plug the Xbox Series X into a 1080p TV, it's likely going to run in Xbox One Compatibility (They'll have to confirm if it can handle upscaling and downscaling HDR and SDR in hardware. It should be easy… but it's Microsoft.)

YMMV. It sounds silly, but it's possible. Downscaler's have to be installed and allowed/configured to work, and the XSX modes might not have a 1080p setting, preferring instead to switch to X1 modes and X1 textures to get X1 specific optimisations.

Developers also have to figure out how to implement XSX and X1 engine inter-dependency, since some features just can't work on an X1 in software without testing on the older hardware.

Alternatively, the XSX could also easily up/downscale video from the XSX optimised modes, IDK. There might be exceptions, but the big push will be to economise development for 4k @ 60hz titles with HDR with the Series X, or use their new 16-thread CPU modes. Apart from the assumed price jump, there's no real understanding if they use a hardware video scaler or AI up/down scaler to up/downscale games for 1080p, SDR/HDR, VRR, etc.

If yes, you can buy a 1440p Monitor or keep your 10+ year old 1080p TV, or even watch Netflix/4k UHD's on a 720p plasma TV…

If No, you'll be game-dependent, they eventually may not have XSX settings for 1080p, and you'll be stuck with a new console that won't play new games in 1080p SDR in a few years.

Nothing at all has indicated this. You seem to just be making stuff up.

To buy Live Gold Membership cheaply. wait for these type of deals https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/531523

    • -1

Can you do this if you've already had ultimate at some stage?

      • Yes, though I'm unsure with this deal as they changed the T&Cs

      • +1

You can, as long as you don't currently have an active Ultimate subscription, you can quickly load up Xbox Live Gold, GamePass for Console, GamePass for PC months, then take on the $1 - which will re-convert it.

I just convert to Ultimate for the second time. Pity I still have an active GamePass for PC beta, otherwise I would buy the $1 special, then convert.

      • I did this and the $1 offer went away,oh well, 15.95 is still good to convert all gold for 24 months.

      • It won't give me the $1 offer when I log in.
        $15.95/mo only.
This is disappointing. I wish companies would stop limiting these offers to new customers.

  • would i be able to use this on xbox360 as well or only Xbox One?

    • +1

If you are able to get ultimate on 360 I assume so, can always refund it if not

    • +8

You will be able to use the Gold part of the ultimate sub on 360 afaik, but not the gamepass.

  • +3

it is still beta but it is beyond amazing that Microsoft offers such service. it is almost almost free and you get to play a lot of great games.

      • +11

you are able to play rdr 2 for 1 dollar. do you wanna get paid for playing rdr2?

        • +3

And 10 cents for every achievement earned in the criteria of games listed.

        • Wait, RDR 2 is on here? I can't see it on PC

          • @AydenFX: It's for Xbox One (only for now hopefully)

          • @AydenFX: https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-game-pass/games

Also, feel disappointed when you click between Console vs PC… There's a fair amount of trash on the PC side as they can't get a lot of PC game titles at all.

And there's even fewer dual-PC/Console titles where you get both PC & Console for one price, or is accessible for both XGP on PC/Xbox. It's mostly about licensing.

as for RDR2, it's not yet pushed out across XGP, it should be in a few hours.

            • +2

@toliman: That's why PC is only $5 instead of $15 at the moment. However, I've still managed to find all these games to install for PC:
              Outer Worlds
              Age of Wonders: Planetfall
              Halo: Master Chief Collection
              Dead Cells
              Frostpunk
              Kingdom Come Deliverance
              Forza Horizon 4
              Gears Tactics
              A Plague Tale
and a heap of fun indie games

and if you collect the Microsoft Rewards points, it won't cost you anything.

              • @steelpanther: plus these games below currently:

brothers a tale of two sons
                age of wonders planetfall
                darksiders 3
                imperator rome
                hellblade senua's sacrifice
                gears 5
                football manager 2020
                the surge 2
                deliver us the moon

It is just unreal even for 15 dollars.

                • @baldur: And Mech Warrior 5 has just been added.

                  • @steelpanther: but it is not good enough unless it is free, to some.

                  • @steelpanther: Oh hell. MW5?!

Damn, in self isolation and my Xbox with my bro. Been wanting to pick up mw5 for a while now.

'for a while' = 5 min ago when I read there is a mw5 game.

        • haha. yes the earth is flat too.

  • Spotify deal??

    • +5

Xbox live ultimate perks. You can get this via your Xbox console home page. You will get a QR code which you can scan to get 3 months Spotify premium free

  • what is spotify deal you mentioned?

  • It's so crazy playing mmo on gamepass especially rockstar games, story driven, or survival games sure.

Black desert was on game pass, now it's gone and it's no louch either, it's a game you'll never finish, they can really make gamepass terrible as it's definitely a game you'll need to buy.

  • I heard xbox live was free now? As in you can play games online now with gold pass?

"Microsoft dropped the Xbox Silver designation and now offers free Xbox Live and paid Xbox Gold memberships. Information in this article applies to the Xbox Live service for Xbox 360 and Xbox One.Feb 11, 2020"

Haven't had a chance to test this yet.

    • +1

Multiplayer requires gold, silver used to be just to connect to the internet use netflix etc

  • -8

I just purchased 12 months of Gold but the $1 option to upgrade to Ultimate is still saying $15.95. I've had ultimate in the past, and just cancelled my ultimate subscription to access this. Am I boned?

    • +1

I've had ultimate in the past, it seems to only work if you don't have an active sub by the new T&Cs they put for this

      • -4

Damn. I was on the $15.95 GPU until literally fifteen minutes ago, upon which I cancelled, refunded, and then purchased 12 month Gold to one up on. Guess it's still counting me as being an active sub?

        • Perhaps try by using the website, I've sometimes had issues claiming these on console but works through the website for some reason

          • -1

@Wilder94: No dice, doing this all sitting at my laptop. I'll let it sit for a couple of hours, see what happens anyway.

  • +1

Can confirm, PC gamepass works for existing subscribers for $1

    • How?

      • Went to the link, clicked on PC gamepass, and paid $1 for it.

  • Does this one come with the Discord Nitro?

    • +2

No I'm pretty sure that one expired awhile ago

      • KK just checking - iirc last time it was not very clear that it included other things as well

    • I forgot to cancel after my 3-month free Discord Nitro and got charged for that 4th month :(

This is how they can offer you the three "free" months.
So just be careful when you signup for your 3 months of free premium Spotify/Discord Nitro.

      • +1

FWIW, Discord are pretty nice about a refund. I emailed them as soon as it charged me and they refunded it fairly quickly.

        • +1

I believe on Discord you can actually request a refund for 5 days after its actually been charged. Its under nitro boost settings.

          • +1

@pennypincher98: I didn't know that but way too late now.
I got what I wanted out of Discord Nitro- the Warframe bundle that's worth $50 so I'm not complaining.

  • I have a bunch of those Xbox Game Pass codes from purchases I've never used (been waiting for a time in my life where I can spare more than 30mins a day). If I try this for 1 month and then cancel can I still use those codes?

    • Shouldn't have an issue, I've done these offers plenty of times and still been able to use codes

      • Thanks :)

    • This one doesn't send out a code for you thought. :(

  • +1

Coming up for $15.95 for me and I’m not active with game pass

    • Yeah same, I don't have gold either.

    • Yeah looks to be targeted. Seeing the normal price just now.

      • I saw a price of $1 - refreshed the page and it's now $16. Deal expired?

    • I had that last time this deal came up. Would show $1 then $15.95 after i try and purchase. Worked for me this time though.

  • Yer not working for me either

  • lol… is it possible to apply 5.5% on $1 ? haha

  • I currently have 5-6 days left on my current game pass ultimate and gold. I paid $1 to trial it for a month. Do I just wait for it to run out and re-run the $1 deal? Or am I outta luck? I was thinking of doing the trick of getting the longer term gold and powering it up with ultimate for $1.

  • I liked the good ol' days when you got your dollar back from cashback sites… :) Once I even got 2 dollars back for a dollar spent on these.

  • Anyone know when it expires? I plan on signing up just before minecraft dungeons release :)

  • Went to buy it but when I log in price goes to 4.95 (for the pc game pass) :(

    • That's not the deal,

Essentially, there's Gold (online play. 3 older games each fortnight), Game Pass for PC, Game Pass for xbox, and Game Pass Ultimate which has all 3 previous subscriptions.

The special deal with XGPU is a conversion deal that grants a one-time conversion of any of the 3 previous subscriptions, and any of the existing time you have accrued to XGPU, once, for $1

If you miss out, they semi -regularly offer the $1 deal, but your account needs to be eligible.

I believe it's a one way conversion, but I could be wrong. If you let XGPU elapse, you should be able to go back to gold or game pass afterwards. From there, you might be able to convert over again at a discount the next time it's available.

If you have 2 years of XGP for PC… That converts to 2 years of XGPU. If you have 1 year of Gold, 1 year of XGP, and convert, the date gets extended to 2 years, once only.

After the conversion, any existing time you add from the previous 3 subscriptions will be converted to a monetary equivalent of XGPU, so 6 months of Gold becomes ~2 months of XGPU.
