[QLD] Solar Boost Plan 20c FIT @ Origin Energy

Mod 17/3/22 - See Forum Post to continue discussion.

OP UPDATE 6 - 19/11/2021 - Just got off the phone with Origin Retention's Team. It looks like the number in my post randomly goes to either sales or retention's team. If you call the 1800# just ask the rep if they are in the retention's team before wasting your time for an hour thinking that you are speaking with them and in fact, you're just talking to a normal sales rep, who can't offer anything other than what is on their website. smh… I called the 1800# again straight away and this time it went to their retention's team!

The rep was REALLY helpful. She went on to explain that Origin were losing 100s of customers a day due to their FIT rate drop and expect the feedback of this customer loss will send a wake up call to the 'powers that be' and come out with a better FIT rate. However long that takes is the big question!

Anyway, the best they can offer is 12c FIT which isn't as good for me personally compared to the AGL 12c FIT rates. I'll try again in early December and see what they are offering. Keep sharing in the comments section if you come across a potentially better deal! TIA

OP UPDATE 5 - 14/09/2021 - It looks like this deal is fast becoming unobtainable, unfortunately. I've called a few times over the past week and the best I am getting is 12c FIT. They are all saying the 20c FIT is no longer available and they won't even do 15c now… I'll keep researching and will update here if anything comes up that is worth signing up.

OP UPDATE 4 - 24/08/2021 - I called Origin yesterday to help another person get on this deal. I asked several questions to the rep (who was a part of the retention's team) about the offer and why some people get it and others do not. Her response was that the retention's team is the only one that offer better deals over their customer care team or sales team. The offers that they can do fluctuates from week to week. I asked further about this 'fluctuation' which she replied some weeks they can offer 15c whereas other weeks it can be up to 20c. It varies week to week based on what other companies are offering at the time. Yesterday the most she could do was 18c FIT however, she said call back in a couple of weeks time and it could be 20c again (or it could be 15c, which you wouldn't go ahead with). So that's the latest info I've got about this deal.

OP UPDATE 3 - 10/12/2020 - The deal/offer is still going strong! Don't let the reps tell you you can't get the offer. Merry Christmas everyone!

OP UPDATE 2 - 18/10/2020 - Some reps are now stating that the deal is no longer available however, I can confirm that I still managed to help a friend get this deal as of 16/10/2020. You just need to get the right rep and they will sign you up to the deal. Currently their website is saying 9c FIT which is terrible! Keep trying if at first you don't succeed.

OP UPDATE 11/7/2020 - This deal is still available for those that are in the market. I helped sign someone up to it yesterday no problem at all

Ok this deal requires some explaining so I'll do my best to give you all the details and steps to follow. Please note that this is specific to QLD, possibly even SE QLD and probably only beneficial for larger Solar Systems installed in your residential home or those who can generate high feed back to the grid per day.

Background:
I had a 15kw system installed just going on 12 months ago and shared my experience - details here. At the time it was very good value for money and I am so glad I went the larger system. I am currently predicted to have it fully paid off in under 2yrs based on credit generated through high FIT rates from energy retailers. After 1yr I haven't had a single electricity bill (was approximately $450/qrt) and have generated about $800-$1200 per qrt = $4000

When I first had it installed Origin and AGL wouldn't offer me anything competitive due to my solar system being over 10kw. Energy Australia (EA) at the time were offering 16.1c FIT so went with them. Earlier this year EA dropped their FIT rate to 11.5c and was no longer competitive. AGL then came to the party and offered me their 17c FIT rate so transferred over to them mid FEB.

This current qrt I am forecast to have a credit of just over $900. As I always do, I regularly check to see what's available and my brother who has a similar system to mine was looking to come over to AGL as well. He was with Origin at the time and upon making the move to come over to AGL, Orgin called him and offered him 20c FIT with no cap (as per their current plan of 15c FIT capped at 8kw per day then reverting back to 7c FIT) to stay.

Which brings me to this deal:
I called Origin to get the details as I was concerned they may have added in the fine print the 20c FIT is capped at 8kw but was pleasantly surprised to see it was unlimited with no cap. This deal can't be given over the phone with a typical Origin Energy Sales representative (as I found out) and had to call this number - 1800 557 700 and speak with a member from that team who can offer special rates outside of the standard.

As per the screen shot I have as the link, according to my spreadsheet (which works out exact costs by imputing exact usage and feed back to the grid figures) switching over to this Origin deal will increase my credit by approximately $800 per year. I have several other retailers costs on my spreadsheet that spits out the credit I would make and Origin beats them all.

Recap:
This would only be beneficial if you have a large solar system and can feed back to the grid a good amount (30kw+ per day on avg) and only buying back from your retailer approximately 6-12kw per day.
FIT offer: 20c/kwh
Usuage costs: 24.915
Daily Supply charge: 116.061
Daily Solar meter reading charge: 6.974 (Origin say it's $6/qrt)

Side note - A good price for a similar system to the one I have with 3 phase power (including Smart meter, slightly larger panels 330-350w and Fronius Inverter) with quality materials and workmanship is about the $9k mark now. For anyone with single phase power you can still get an 8.2kw inverter with 10kw worth of panels (have to have a Smart meter installed so it caps your feed back to the grid at 5kw/hr as per Energex regulations) with same quality as above for about $6.7k

Sorry for the long post but if you have any questions or don't understand my method/reasoning for the deal feel free to ask questions. Happy to help where ever I can. I must stress and reiterate that I am NOT affiliated with any Energy/Solar company. I just love doing my homework and research and love sharing it with others who can benefit.

Enjoy!

    • Yeah others have indicated they have cracked down on that. I can't help with that one unfortunately…

  • +1

I'm already with Origin, only have a 5kw system under the 15c. Asked via that number to upgrade and they said it was for new customers only but they added on a 23% discount so I took it. I may call and retry once it gets to the warmer months. Thanks OP!

  • I called the number pressed the number for residential service, and the lady transfer me to someone sounded like outsource to India, who can only offer the flexi plan to me, how do u guys get to transfer to right person?

    • could be someone in an Australian call centre with an Indian accent hahahahahahaha

  • +1

just rang now. Spoke to a very helpful australian rep who swaped us onto this deal straight away. No fuss. Thanks very much as my agl plan had just expired!

    • Awesome to hear! Well done!

  • G’day @CrocDundee
New user so unable to pm you, but I signed up just to thank you and see if I could possibly ask you a couple more questions please?
I think I can respond to pm’s if it isn’t too much trouble for you to shoot me a message?

    • You need to allow PM in your settings. Happy to help if I can.

      • Apologies, all fixed now. Thanks in advance!

        • +1

          No worries. PM sent.

  • A quick question.
Does the tax office take the $900 Credit per quarter as an income and you should pay tax on it?

Whether people do or not, I was just wondering if really it is classed as taxable income.

    • Really good question! I actually don't know as this will be my first tax return that has will probably need to include the credit I have obtained? I'd have to talk to an accountant to check…

  • I need to read up more.
We have a townhouse with east west peaked/hip roof.
No way could we fit 10kw of panels, I’m thinking a basic system (around 6kw??)
Is that worth doing at all? I see systems for $3-4K advertised. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/536431 Yes cheap but less to pay off I suppose.

It seems all too hard for me, and too many sharks around selling to get the truth.

    • Personally, that deal you linked to is bad… really bad quality. For some, it might be all they can afford and are happy to go with it. I would save up the funds to get something far better. The last thing you would want is in 2-5yrs time your system failing and although they say they come with a warranty, you just don't want the hassle…

You could be one of the lucky ones and have no issues, but when you are spending thousands of dollars, I wouldn't compromise that poorly in quality. No doubt that company would offer better quality panels and inverter, but obviously at an increased price.

      • Thanks.
That’s just one I remember and it’s expired anyway.
They also posted this one that has brands I’ve heard of before (good or bad I have no idea) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/523306

We just wouldn’t have room on the roof for something like this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/532151
30 panels is a lot of panels.

I can read and read but looking at specs and specs means not a lot for me, and then stuff like feed in tariffs etc etc ends up being too hard and I leave it again for another time.
Our Gold Coast power bill is around $500-600 qtr And I can’t even figure out what a solar system would do to that bill.

        • +1

PM me - I'll gladly go through it step by step with no bias. Happy to help

The more you read the more you learn. I've just been through this process and there's a big difference between the $3k and $6k systems. All comes down to what you want from the system first and foremost. Your biggest financial gains are likely to come from maximising your usage of the power generated by the system through the day. That means sizing the system to cope first and foremost with your daily consumption. Thereafter, the bigger the system, the more you have left to sell back to the grid, great, but your ROI decreases at this point (generally) because you'll typically be selling it for less than you're buying it.
This is where system efficiency comes into play, both short and long term. ie, a more efficient system (both inverter & panels) will be more expensive, but long term 'should' yield a better financial advantage. Also be careful about the racking used and installation, this can also vary the price dramatically but thinking of the long term effect of wind loads on the panels. For me good quality installation and racking is a no brainer.
I ended up buying a smaller, more expensive system than some of the other quotes I had, because I'm more interested in the longer win. Easier to update down the track, better efficiency, and much better installation hardware. At the end of the day, it will still accommodate our consumption through the day, as as both myself and my wife work from home, we can make sure we run as much possible while the sun is up, such as washing, dishwasher, dryer etc….

      • ^^ Exactly this! Great insight and exactly what I think as well.

        • +1

My Solar got installed yesterday. Called the number today, spoke to Raj, got the deal. 20c fit. Thanks mate. Great deal.

  • Was your solar system installed by Origin. I called and they said the plan is only available to those who used Origin to install their system.

    • Nope - if you read here you see that I had my solar installed by the company of my choosing.

It is definitely available to anyone in SE QLD but looks like your system has to be 10kw or less.

      • Unfortunately I didn't get anywhere. Got transferred a few times as I pushed them. But they said the best deal in South East QLD is the Origin Solar Plus on their website. Also the Origin Solar Plus is capped at 8kW per day which I exceed. My system is under 10kW.

Might take a look at the AGL Solar Savers

        • You've unfortunately got a dud Origin rep… If you want to try again call and tell them your friend has this deal (feel free to PM me) and would like to go on the same.

          • @CrocDundee: Yeah, I did go through 2 reps but I'll try again tomorrow. I told them my friend who didn't have an origin installed system got it and they said that maybe the plans had changed since then

            • @mcmelonhead: Dodgy Origin!! I don't know why they have to lie like they do… Frustrating!!

            • @mcmelonhead: Try that direct number to the retention team I did in the 23% discount bargain with origin. Guaranteed to work. Look down the bottom of the comments

              • @ComfortablyNumb: I did call that number, and the first person I got redirected me straight away. I got redirected 2 more times before I started talking to someone. Who then said that the solar deal is only for origin installed systems. Then they redirected me again and they said the deal doesn't exist.

I was kind of over it by the end of it.

                • @mcmelonhead: Me too. And when I said my friend got this deal, he asked my friend's name and account number.

                  • @CuteSean: When did you try? Maybe they have started locking it down after becoming aware of this thread?

                    • @mcmelonhead: I've called as recently as last Friday for another friend of mine and have signed him up on this deal. That is 6 people I have done it for plus my own account with no issues each time I have called up. Only one time did the rep say they just needed to chat to their manager and they came up with a "no worries" and signed him up…

I am not sure why others seem to be having a problem? I get that Origin are dodgy sometimes and I guess I have just got lucky each time I've called. The ONLY limitations seem to be anyone who has a system larger than 20kw.

                      • @CrocDundee: Failed again. =.=

                        It was a polite conversation.

But still failed. He said he was only available people I can contact. and they never heard about 20cent feed in.

Anyway, I practised my English. I will try it again.

                    • @mcmelonhead: Yesterday. But I will try it again today.

                      • @CuteSean: Okay - are you located in QLD? I know it should be a given but just need to check.. :)

                        • @CrocDundee: Yes. I read all your comments. You are a great man and I trust you!

It should be working. Might be too many people did it.

I want to do it early, but I just got my smart meter installed last week.

I just sign to transfer to AGL first and see whether origin will call me or not.

                          • @CuteSean: okay first step complete :)

PM me and I'll try sort it out for you.

                            • @CrocDundee: Do you have to tell them you want to cancel / sign up to AGL first? As I haven't done that. I called and said I'm going to switch to AGL but heard of the Origin deal

                              • @mcmelonhead: Just called them again. This time they said the best FIT rate is 7c / kWh with a 18% discount on usage. They have a better deal on their website FFS. They are useless.

                                • @mcmelonhead: Wow! That is just frustrating!! I presume you are calling the 1800 number in the OP? That goes straight to the right department and they know exactly the deal that can be offered.

                                  • @CrocDundee: They seem completely clueless about it. Will try again next week then just give up and go AGL

                                    • @mcmelonhead: Did you call the 07 number in the 23% deal? Andrew should sort out out.. don't give up

                                      • @ComfortablyNumb: I called the 1800 from the OP. Will try and find this 23% one.

                                        • @mcmelonhead: Yes a lot have had success with that… It's a direct number to a person who really knows all the ins and outs

                                          • +2

@ComfortablyNumb: I sorted mine yesterday. I told her my friend got the discount and she asked someone and got back to me said they couldnt do it. I reiterated my friend got it and if she can ask her manager as thats what he did. She did that, came back and said its all good and now im on the plan :) Just play dumb, say your friend got it, ask the manager specifically and be happy.

                                            • @massari: Well done! I don't know why they won't just sign you up straight away?! Doesn't make sense why they wouldn't want more customers cause they would still be making money even on these two deals…

                                              • +1

@CrocDundee: Finally, I also got this deal.

After switching to AGL, origin called me back and give me this offer!

                                                Thank you again!

  • Hey mate is this limited to 10KW+ systems or can a 5.6KW system obtain this. Will try my luck tomorrow. Also In QLD

    • Up to 10kw systems. Anything under, no problem

  • +1

Thanks a lot! They offered this or the 23% discount + 15c tariff, but the higher FiT is better for us. Really appreciate you sharing this deal.

    • Great to hear! Well done!

  • Thanks OP, moved to a new house last week, and Origin told me to call back once the account was active to get this FIT. Organised with no fuss just now. Stoked to have solar!

    • Awesome! Glad it was a smooth process for you. Good luck with it all!

  • +1

FYI - this deal is still available for anyone looking to get a better FIT rate. See update in the OP

As mentioned, there were two offers available:

    1) 20c FIT no discount
    2) 15c FIT 23% discount off usage and supply - see here

I have heard of some others also getting a $50 sign up bonus if you ask.

    Enjoy!

    • I'll be trying very shortly thanks mate. My panels get installed tomorrow.

      • No worries at all. Good luck!

  • I signed up to this deal but the transfer has been nothing but a nightmare.

My cooling off period ended on the 7th July. A meter read was to take place, but whoever set up the account, set it for Energex to complete the read. I'm told because my house has a smart meter, the meter read is not completed by energex, rather it is done remotely by Origin.

On speaking to Origin to get an update, they cancelled my request by mistake with no ability to reinstate it, and have now started a new request and placed me on a second cooling off period, in order to have my meter read remotely.

Now I have to wait another 10 business days, before I can have my meter read.

    • That sucks big time! But to be honest, I'm not surprised! So many incompetent people out there and they just blame someone else… Hopefully doesn't take too long before it gets transferred for you.

  • Quick question, do I need to wait until Energex puts my new Meter in before I talk to origin about my plan?

    • Yeah wait til your new meter has been upgraded by Energex (which is actually organised by your current electricity company when you tell them that you now have Solar). Once completed, then call to transfer across to this plan if it is better than your current one.

      • +1

Sweet, yeh it's already booked in to change over. Thanks mate.

        • New meter installed today, 5 minutes on the phone with Origin, and boom. 23% discount and 15c FIT. Happy days.

  • +1

Thanks Op - called today and got the following rates :D

    Peak 0.23935
    Daily 1.11498
    solar charge 0.06974
    Solar 0.2

Changed over my IP with the govt FiT for the following rates

    Peak 0.1843
    off peak 0.13878
    daily peak 0.85853
    daily off peak 0.01992
    solar charge 0.06974
    Solar 0.5

  • Hi Op,

I just gave it a crack and they'd only offer me the same as their online plans. Any chance I could PM you and try to find out a bit more info?

    Thanks so much

    • No worries at all. PM and we'll go from there

  • Working as of today, took three tries to get on to a rep who would offer it. The first two said they can't offer anything outside the online plans and 20c isn't possible, third person had no issue doing it at all. Cheers!

    • Well done! So frustrating to hear though that it took 3 attempts! They are so incompetent!!

  • Hi Op,

AGL(QLD) sent me an email saying electricity prices are changing from 1st Aug.
    Here is screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/PHBLCsU

Weird thing is they mentioned solar feed rate is also going down. However, it still shows 20c in their email. I'll confirm with them if it's correct.

My av. usage a day is 6 kWh
    Solar feed-in: 23 kWh
    (based on last year data)

6.6 kW solar panels, 5 kW Fronius inverter

Should I stick with AGL or move to Origin. Not sure if Origin 20c is fixed rate and they might be changing this pricing soon?

    • Origin's 20c FIT is locked for 12 months so you would be fine if you switched over to them for at least a year. Is your Feed-in of 23kwh based on a daily amount?

      • 23kwh is average daily amount. Last year total solar feed-in was 8.5 MWH.

        • +1

Ok based on those numbers, you're better off with the 20c FIT plan with Origin over the 23% discount and 15c FIT plan.

          • +1

@CrocDundee: Thanks mate. I’ll call origin and ask for 20c FIT plan.

  • +3

just touching base to A ) say thanks to CrocDundee and B ) i just got onto this deal (28/07/2020). i called that 1800 number and the operator instantly offered me my choice of this deal or the FIT 15c + 23% discount deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543348) without me prompting.

thanks again Croc, i created this acount just to say thanks haha

    • Great to hear! Glad it was a pretty straight forward process for you. Amazing how easy it is for some and then others who get sales reps who just want to be difficult. Well done!

    • can anyone without solar get this deal? pricing is close to what I've been getting for the past 2years which is now due for renewal.

      • yes - but you might find there are better deals out there that aren't solar specific?

      • Maybe but I don’t know if you’d bother. We changed to this deal from alinta which was great pre-solar. $0.19 per kWh (less than origin) and $1.09 daily connection fee (less than origin).

This deal only makes sense if you have solar, and export the majority of what you produce. Eg I only use about 6kwh a day but export about 30.

  • +1

Happy to report I called the number and got the 20c FiT deal today.

    • Well done!

      • Thanks for all your help along the way too champ!

        • No worries at all! Happy to help.

    • Still working on 6/8/2020. Spoke with Paige. If struggling to find someone who knows the deal, her direct number is 03) 7003 9122.

Thanks CrocDundee!!! I've been getting all my friends onto the deal too.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

I am an existing customer and when I called in the morning, I got sent to the overseas call centre and then re-directed to Ricky who refused to offer the 20c FIT and the best he could do was 14c FIT (+ no discount), even after I said I was interested in going to another provider.

Then in the afternoon I called again and got straight through to Maddy and she was a superstar, less than 2mins and I was onto the 20c FIT!

They also offered two different NBN offers because I have both my Gas and Electricity account with them:
    - Unlimited NBN 25 = $50/m
    - Unlimited NBN 50 = $55/m
(They waived the setup and modem delivery fee)

I'm on a old Exetel plan for for $55/m with 500GB plan and opted against Origin because I value the service from Exetel, but option is available for others.

    • Frustrating how some reps give you the stuff around and others, "yep, no problem - I'll sign you up on that deal now".. Well done and getting it done!

  • +2

I have been watching this thread closely as I have recently had Solar installed @ my business in Brisbane and thought I would share my experiences. My system is 18.48kw with a 3 phase 15kw inverter. The business is open 5 1/2 days a week so sunny Sundays can be a good money earner. My energy provider was Energy Australia who, upon finding out I had solar, were quick to order and install a smart meter but were not willing to budge on the plan : 13% off Electricity but only 11.5 FIT. There online info and app are also 48hrs behind and don't currently show the actual Feed In. I have a Sungrow Inverter which shows me the Solar generation but am awaiting the delivery and install of a Sungrow smart meter that will show the Feed in live(it probably should have been part of the original package deal as it is integral for the Sungrow App and, I believe, will also help spread the usage load across all 3 phases). All this means that I have to wait 2+ days to do any calculations and make certain assumptions so I have delayed my call to Origin.

Today I made that call because I estimated that last Sunday(mostly sunny) I would have received $2.41 credit from EA but, on the Origin deal, it would have been $7.14. I had a foot in the door as, for some unknown reason, we still had our Gas service with Origin and our home power is also with Origin so I thought I had some firepower. Luckily I immediately spoke to a local representative who knew about the 20c FIT BUT it was not available to businesses - instead I was offered 19c FIT with full price supply charges and capped @ 14kwhr per day(apparently multiplied out by # days on the bill) - given that I have calculated an export of at least 30kwhr for the first 11 days, this isn't a good deal. Now, luckily, my wife and I personally own the building that the Solar was installed on and paid for the sysem ourselves. So it was recommended to me to move the account to our names personally(something I asked EA to do but they said it was too complicated and wait for the 1st bill). If this was done, I would then have the option of the 20cFIT(but with full supply charges) or a 15c FIT with 23% discount on supply charges.

Now it gets further complicated as I was advised that their system didn't seem to allow the change to either of these plans due to one of :
a)It is currently in a business name and may need to go private before changing or
b)The system is to new(smart meter installed on 22/7 and no 1st bill yet) and is not appearing correctly on their computer

While he was checking with his supervisor, I plugged some numbers from the 2nd offer into my spreadsheet and came up with the following :

EA 11.5c Sunny Sunday -2.41 Cloudy Friday 5.65 Rainy Thursday 12.52 Sunny Thursday 2.42
AGL 17c Sunny Sunday -5.22 Cloudy Friday 5.61 Rainy Thursday 14.07 Sunny Thursday 1.33
Origin 20c Sunny Sunday -7.15 Cloudy Friday 4.92 Rainy Thursday 13.80 Sunny Thursday 0.19
Origin 15c Sunny Sunday -5.25 Cloudy Friday 3.86 Rainy Thursday 10.67 Sunny Thursday 0.29

I haven't seen the terms yet of the 15c FIT deal so am not sure yet if the 23% discount is off the supply or off the total of the bill and the representative wasn't all that clear on it either. This makes a small difference to the calculations depending on the export value.

So the end result is that Origin have offered to move the account to my personal details and then will offer me one of the 2 deals. This is supposed to take 13 days so should also allow time for the solar to be recognised if that is indeed the problem. Given that either of their deals is better than what EA are offering, I decided to take a leap of faith and proceed with the transfer in the hope of a much better deal. Which deal I take is really a gamble on how much Sunlight will be available in the next 12 months. I told my wife that I should be subsidised by the farmers because if I take the 20c FIT I can guarantee the gloomiest/wettest Summer in Qld history ;-)

AnyHoo if someone is considering the same for their business I hope this helps them be forearmed with info to assist their case in getting a better deal.

If anyone is interested, I will post the result once I know further in a couple of weeks.

Thanks OP for the original info to assist my case.

    • Great summary and in-depth experience! Thanks for sharing and good luck with the change over. I have no idea what energy companies offer for businesses so can't give any advice but if they can work it so it's in your name and therefore, private account, awesome!!

  • @CrocDundee I'm having the same issue as a few other people, when calling the 1800 number they tell me such a deal doesn't exist and then go over the online plans… I'm a new user so I'm unable to PM you. Do you mind sending me a PM? :)

Thanks Crocdundee i went with the 15 cent feed in 25% off

    • No worries - Good luck!

  • I settled on our new house last Monday. House was already with agl so just signed up to them initially. 6.6kw Solar installed Tuesday. Called the origin number from this post and got a very helpful lady named swati. She said yep no issues moving us to the 15c fit and 23% discount. Even said she’d apply the $50 credit when I asked about It.

But she said we need to wait for Energex to install a new meter and do a meter read before she can move us over? My solar provider did all the paperwork and agl sent me a message yesterday saying my account has changed and I’m now on a solar plan. So they are obviously aware. I haven’t organised anything with Energex, do I need to?

Just confirm with AGL that they've organised a smart meter upgrade (if you need it) with Energex before moving to Origin. Your solar installers should have submitted an EWR form if your meter needs to be upgraded.

      • Thanks for the reply. How would I know if it’s already a smart meter? Anything i can check on the meter to tell?

        • The company who installed your solar should have told you? It's a digital looking type meter (if it is the upgraded version) that sits in your meterbox.

Some houses have an older, but compatible, style meter that isn't digital and unless the solar company puts in a request to have it upgraded they won't do it. There are even older style ones that are not compatible at all and if you run your solar, it actually generates as though you are using that much, instead of producing it from the sun.

So it's definitely wise to get it checked or ask the company who installed your solar what to do.

          • @CrocDundee: Thanks for the reply. Will send an email off to my solar installer, I didn’t get to speak to them on the day of install as had to run off to work.

            • @dwhes: Good luck.

              • @CrocDundee: Quick one. Do you think I’d be better off on the 20c FIT plan or the 15c 23% discount plan. I have a 6.6kw system with fronius inverter. Last few days it’s been generating about 35kwh a day. I’m in brisbane. My average use at our old house was 12kwh a day usage. New house will be slightly more I imagine as it has a pool.

                • @dwhes: Based on those numbers I think the 20c FIT plan would work out best. When you say your avg at your old house was 12kw, was that without solar?

                  • @CrocDundee: We were renting and it had a 6.66kw solar system. We were with alinta with an 11c FIT. Looking at my last bill we exported about 13kwh a day on average from what I can work out. The bill said average daily consumption 12kwh. I believe that’s before taking into account export.
