    75hz :( feelsbad

    • +1

      Why?

      • +17

Not good enough for competitive online gaming such as Overwatch, Counter Strike etc. I used to think it was good enough, but I do have a 60 Hz monitor and a 144hz g-sync monitor and the difference is stunning to the point where I cannot play on the 60hz as it seems laggy.

        • +37

But for normal people it’s all good then.

          • +14

@Icecold5000: If you've never used 144hz+ for gaming then yes. Once you try 144hz you cannot go back.

            • +4

@sghetti: Have a 75hz monitor. Can't go back to 60 even the 15hz makes a world of a difference. I don't want to spoil myself any further. It also means my PC will feel like it's lasting longer as it's gonna be able to keep 75hz up a lot longer than 144.

            • @sghetti: Meh
It's just another way to get money off of you. 4k@144hz? You need to spend a fortune to get a pc to support it

            • @sghetti: I don’t game so it was a legit question, not trying to be a dick.

          • @Icecold5000: *normal people.
            Gold!

          • @Icecold5000: Probably yes, that wasn’t the question though, somebody asked why 75hz may be an issue for some and I merely stated why it may be an issue. Agree for other uses this is fine.

        • +8

Competitive gamers aren't going to be buying this though…

          • @Oxxy: I wouldn't say it's just competetive online gaming. It makes any gaming experience better.

        • +20

"Not good enough for competitive online gaming"

          All good, neither are you.

        • +5

"Not good enough for competitive online gaming such as -Overwatch-"

          ..giggles.

          • +1

@Aarent: Last time I checked it had a competitive ranked mode in it - I think your confusing competitive ranked games (which is what 99.9% of gamers will play) vs professional gaming where you play professionally and yeh in that case Overwatch would be a silly example. In pro play DOTA 2 and League of Legends are king.

        • a graphics card that operates that revolution and decent frame rates probably costs an amount that puts you in a different price range compared to this monitor.

i run 4k 28” for my office 365 and stuff and love it ……

        • +1

Competitive online gaming then says Overwatch hahah

        • Used to be a volunteer at WCG, the professional competitors played well on 60hz 200$ displays and cheap keyboards. It's all about marketing nowadays. Buy whatever makes you happy. If someone feels cannot go back, the money was well spent.

          • @tedzozb: there is no doubt you get advantage in games that make use of high refresh rate

some games like wc3 are locked to 60fps

      • +2

Recently watched Linus Tech tips video where pros young and old, regular middle aged non pro gamers compared 60hz, 144hz and 240hz screens. Difference from 60 hz to 144hz seems a great one, not so much of an upgrade from 144 to 240. I have been looking for to upgrade to 144 hz but timing is not right due to USD AUD conversion is at the works point. For example a 24inch AOC ups 144 hz screen after 15% discount is $340 which was $270 not too long ago.

        • +2
        • My 144hz Overclocks to 165 and I feel the difference is night and day between the two.

          • @Twinsen64: @Twinsen64: With free /g sync?

          • @Twinsen64: i can tell the diff between 120hz and 144hz on my panel, its not that big a diff but going from 144 to 240 should certainly be a decent upgrade

if only they will start retailing at decent prices.. lol

      • +2

75Hz is fine for most people at 2k resolution, even for gamers especially if the GPU is in the vicinity of a GTX1060.

    • +5

Try turning your graphical settings up and enjoying the game.

      • +6

Enjoy? No, games are work nowadays, didn't you know? They're very serious affairs.

        • +3

Apparently so with all the people screaming out for 240Hz 1080p TN screens playing games on the absolute lowest settings to try and get that little bit higher on the ladder. Yikes. 60Hz 1440p IPS extreme settings just having fun any day of the week.

    • +2

its a 1440p ips monitor for $329, at that price do you honestly think it should have 144hz?

    • 75 is real good for any cinematic game.

My 60hz monitors only make it to 78hz before they start to artifact. I wonder if these would hit 100Hz…… even 90 would be a nice experience.

Being fair though, you have to be pretty darn good at a shooter for better than 75hz to be useful.

My mate used to play CS competitively, representing/sonsored by "the bunker".

Despite his mates playing at 800x600 100hz, he insisted on 1024x768 @ 72hz and was usually pretty top of the leaderboard.

We can agree on one thing though, 60 is too slow for reflex gaming .

  • +2

Not bad for an IPS display with a Vesa mount. Anyone know anything about the panel manufacturer BOC?

    • +3

      Is it a typo? AOC?
      Alphabetical typo lol…

      Edit: Or maybe a sub-brand for AOC's B-stock

  • Ohh, im after another 4K monitor. Got the samsung 28 4k and need a 2nd. Any other suggestions?

  • +6

If it was 144Hz I would bite the bullet

    • +6

I'm sure everybody would if this were a 1440p 144hz ips monitor for $329…

    • +2

Thats like saying… this toyota camry is great value, if it could do 0-100kph in 4 seconds I'd buy it.

  • +1

Hmm, this plus shipping plus a VESA monitor stand would be around $400. Does anyone know how it compares to the AOC and Viewsonic offerings at a similar price?

Alternatively, the LG 27UL600 is around $500 and is 4K with "HDR", though good luck finding stock…

    • +1

Don't know how this one stacks up but picked up a ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD (144hz) last week for $459 and am blown away with it. Only issue I have is Xbox One X doesn't wanna play nice and do 1440p@120hz but that's not really a concern right now!

      • +1

I’ve been disappointed with my viewsonic since a stuck pixel appeared and they refused to do fix it. Seems everyone else on OzBargain are really happy with there’s. I got unlucky it seems. Still, my first and last purchase from viewsonic.

        • +1

That’s pretty disgusting they refuse to fix it

          • @MBix: Most manufacturers don't have zero dead/bright/stuck pixel warranties as far as I'm aware. The only one I know of is Dell, but only on their Ultrasharp range which is twice the price of this.

          • @MBix: Full story is it appeared after owning it for 2 months. They only accept responsibility it if it's within 30 days. I naively believed it was covered under the 3 year warranty. It's not noticeable when gaming luckily but its definitely visible when against a white screen like Word documents and websites.

      • Did you watch the Hardware unboxed review? They seemed to be saying it was the absolute sweet spot for price/performance. That's a nice price given it's out of stock in most places, where did you pick it up?

        • I got it delivered from PLE. Ordered it on the 8th and got an email saying it was delayed until the 11th then sent out and delivered a day later! Was pretty stoked

  • +4

Ask your self about KOGAN brand for the quality and if it worth of $

    • +9

The quality is just crap with the Kogan screen I have. Their warranty process for anything is a pain in the ass too

      • +5

They gives you store credit LOL

        Hi Tina,

I need full refund instead of store credit please.

        Regards

        • They used very similar (if not the exact same) wording with me. Very shady, as they're technically asking a question, but not really asking the full question. Just reply that you'd prefer a refund and you'll get it.

EDIT: Missed your response at the bottom.

        • totally agree with @Mautahuaja

i am still waiting for KOGAN to reply my enquiry about warranty replacement.

Heard nothing since my last 2 enquiries sent

But, it seems like they are prioritise in getting money by advertising crap instead of get back to their previous client enquiries

money come, yes we talk, no money, let's do it slowly ?

        • Had no problems getting a cash refund from Kogan. It took a few weeks longer than I'd have liked but I could live with that.

      • This coment right here! Its a win win.

  • +1

Shame as a single year tax deduction is up to $300. Items over $300 require 3 year deductions as 40/40/20.

    • -1

Is that how it's meant to be done. So my $1000 2080 needs to be claimed as $400 first year, $400 second year, $200 in the third? That's if we are claiming it 100% for work?
If so I stuffed me tax..

      • +7

100% of your 2080 is used for income generating purposes? What line of work are you in?

        • Nah I claimed 50% was just an example. $500 over three years?
$200 first year, $200 second year, $100 third year?

      • +1

        Y'all getting audited

      • Yes. Although some employers allow you to salary sacrifice a computer or laptop if it's going to be used for work purposes the majority of the time (i.e. 51% of more).

    • Assuming top marginal tax rate and 5% interest is about 7 bucks difference in real dollars which wouldn't sway my decision when buying things that costs $300

    • Can you just claim the item as $300 and forego the remaining $50?

      • Yes, say your work percentage is lower

      • Not as far as I'm aware but it's worth asking an accountant.

  • +1

This is even better? 1" bigger and it's 4k? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-28-ultra-hd-4k-freesync-m…

Anyone know the quality o this? Anyone had Kogan monitor before?

    • -1

Honestly wouldn't get either tbh, you would want 144hz+.

    • +1

That's a tn panel different to ips

    • -1

4k does not necessarily mean better. For my gaming and my office work I stick to 1440p

    • That one you linked to is 60hz, not 75hz. That is the main difference (and of course one inch in size).

With the same resolution (4K), the 28" will be slightly lower DPI than the 27", but at 4K resolution you probably won't notice that.

  • +23

I will never give Kogan 1 cent of my money for the rest of my life as a result of their price gouging during COVID.

    They're a disgrace to Australia.

    • True, they raised the price of my 32" QHD IPS monitor from $329 to over $500 pretty sure this one is the same.

      • +11

This was was ~$260 2 months ago :)

        • +3

Wow, really? Might avoid then - not much of a deal :/

        • +1

I can confirm they jacked the prices up by $200. Now they display the ticket price is on sale. This poor form needs to be called out.

      • fridge went from $350 to $1000+

    • -2

Devils advocate, how do we know their costs didn't go up?

      • We don't, of course. I feel confident in my educated guess that the cost of their supplies of everything from lego to white label goods didn't inflate by over 100% in a fortnight though.

      • +1

To add to my previous comment…

        from The New Daily…

"On March 19, in the days leading up to the shutdown of Australia’s gyms, a set of 24kg Fortis dumbbells had a sale price of $249.

        Over the next five days:

        March 21: $269
        March 22: $369
        March 23: $689
        March 24: $999"

That is far worse than the price gouging I noticed. Consumers should not forget this.

  • Can anyone comment on the colour accuracy of these screens? Considering a dual monitor set-up for productivity/coding and some hobby photo editing.

Currently have a 27 inch 4k screen, but at 150% zoom (which is all but required at 27 inches), it's essentially a 2560 x 1440 screen.

    • It's garbage. I use it at work and I wouldn't use it if I was still working in design. Contrast and colour is all over the shop.

If it's a real passion, try to pick up something with better contrast (8-10bit even) and a wider colour gamut. You should be able to get something nice second hand.

Having said that, if its only a hobby then you might not be able to justify the investment in a nicer unit. In which case this will do fine for your needs.

  • +4

    Waiting for non Kogan

  • Can i hook my new MacBook Air to this?

    • +1

Yes, but you'll need a usb-c hub for your macbook which has a HDMI port. Then you can connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your monitor.

      • +1

why couldn't you just use a usb c to hdmi cable?

        • +3

Yes you can use a usb c to hdmi cable. The monitor also has a DP and VGA so could use usb c to DP or VGA cable.

The macbook air only comes with 2 thunderbolts ports. To get best use out of your ports, I recommend a usb c hub so you have the option of connecting more devices to your macbook air (usb stick, memory card, etc..)

  • Just wondering if the 4K monitor for the same price better than the one here.
Not sure if the 4K is IPS and have higher refresh rate frequecy like this one.

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-28-ultra-hd-4k-freesync-m…

  • +1

Anyone know of any good ultrawide monitor deals for > 30"? The price increases on some of Kogan's stock is downright disgusting (e.g. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-34-wqhd-curved-219-ultraw…) - 34" ultrawide at $999 when it was $599 pre COVID-19

  • +1

Hmm.. this is $349 with free delivery, IPS but only 60hz. Also on pre order for 29 May. So if delivery of the Kogan one is about $18, for a couple dollars more you get a Viewsonic.. potentially more reliable?

    https://www.centrecom.com.au/viewsonic-va2719-2k-smhd-27-wqh…

Or here for $344 delivered with code: 10off150 .. so a couple dollars less.

    https://www.i-tech.com.au/va2719-2k-27in-ips-hdmi-dp-monitor…

  • +3

they sure know how to spam tf out of you, even when you 'unsubscribe'. blocking didnt work either.

  • Makes the Aldi one they had with 144HZ for $250 a few months ago heaps good.

    • Surely not 2k?

      • Yeah it was a 27" QHD Curvred 144hz. I remember seeing one left marked down to $199. I took a photo of it then when I went back it was gone. I wish I bought it lol

  • +3

Blegh, last year $349 got you a 144hz monitor with these specs from Kogan. Take what you can get in this market I guess
