Some things to be aware of:
Because this is a new plan, we don't yet know what the typical evening peak speed will be, so you'll notice that our Critical Information Summary and Key Fact Sheets for now just list the 250 plan peak evening speeds. We think the plan should achieve off-peak speeds of up to 80-90%, depending on the technology type.

      • It was Metro Exodus on Gamepass for PC. I was very much confused but too tired to think to much into it.. I don’t think it was intentional by AussieBB but I can’t explain it. Anyways, I’m just glad that 1000mb is now an option for some. I’m happy with my 100mb connection for now though.

Does this mean ABB's CVC would have to signficantly be increased to allow for 1000 throughput to each property that signs up? How does that work

    • Yeah ISPs have to buy more CVC.

      • +1

pretty sure that decision would be based on congestion graphs.

  • Hi All, I tried to check speed tier for both work and home address, but only seem to have maximum of 100mb nbn, nothing higher.

    • HFC or FTTP?

    • Its there in build your own plan section if your address is eligible.

      • +1

When I checked about 1 hour ago the new plans come up and now there gone. I'm on FTTP. I might have to call.

  • I switched across tonight and earlier am only seeing peaks of around 350ish. I'll test it again during the 'off-peak' to see how it fares. My connection is FTTP running through a Ubiquiti USG Pro.

    • Do you have IPS/IDS turned on or off?

Try playing around with Smart Queues.

      • Yeah IPS/IDS is turned off (know that the USG Pro 4 is only good for around 250Mbit with that on). I have also played around with DPI (currently enabled) and it doesn't seems to make a difference. From the USG's speed test i can get around 650Mbit but i believe it doesn't hardware offload that speedtest so may be limited there.

Haven't as yet played around with Smart Queues. I'd be saying as well with the product being so new, that the CVC would be copping a hammering on Aussies POI's right now. Maybe it'll get better when they work out exactly how much to provision.

        • It's recommended to set the upstream shaper to 50.

          Have your speeds improved?

  • Just checked ABB my home address can only get Max 250/25
    Where is the 250/100? :(

If I can only get 25 upload I rather stick with my current 100/40 from Telstra
(Evening peak hours download speed 88, and upload speed 36)

    • Im on the telstra 100/40 too, the 40 up seems to be pretty rare these days as theyre stinging out on the upload. How much are you paying for your telstra?

      • $90 per month (bundle with home phone ) + $15 topup to 100/40

        • yeah im identical, did you get a half price speed pack? im currently trying to negotiate a $0 pack instead of 15

          • @OzBerghainer: Already forgot what they offer me initially
The only reason why I am still with Telstra
is because I got family member work in Telstra so I got 25% off the bill

  • +1

anyone planning on sharing with neighbour? sign up 10 neighbours on the top tier works out to be 15/month for 100/5

  • I have FTTP, might give them a call for those speeds

  • +1

Extremely happy with my $70 5G home broadband plan with Optus. Consistently getting over 400/50mbps.

    • +2

      What's the data limit?

      • +1

        Unlimited

      • Nothing from what I can see

        • Just Google "Optus 5G Home Broadband"

      • It's unlimited.

Commenting that I just switched from a MyRepublic 100/40 service (at $89.99 per month) to the 1000/50 ABB plan; I was intending to switch to ABB at an earlier date due to MyRepublic's very lacklustre customer service, but was yet to have the chance.

The transition to ABB took approximately 1.5 hours and was seamless. Shout out to their customer service team.

I am located in Brisbane and have received speeds ranging between 650-900 down and 35-50 up - very satisfied with this.

  • I am confused on what they say "you will have to provide your own modem…", if I don't want to buy theirs. I am planning to switch from my current Telstra cable to ABB HFC 250/25, am currently using Telstra supplied modem with my R7000 router. If I don't purchase their modem/router combo which I don't want to, are they/NBN still going to provide me a modem so I can plug my R7000 or do I need to buy a separate modem? Or will I be able to use my current Telstra modem?

    • +3

NBN supply the HFC modem (NTD). So you don't need to buy anything and can plug in your R7000 router.

    • +1

Telstra and Netgear routers are compatible with HFC. Don't use both at the same time unless you want to re-purpose one as a dumb switch or wifi AP.

  • +1

Changed over last night. Speed test results are amazing! 905Mbps down and up to 40Mbps up. FTTP connection.

  • +4

Just finished the connection setup for 1000/50 FTTP. This speed is legit.

  • Sad my HFC not able to get on the gigbit plans :(

  • Is "nbn™ Home Ultrafast" 1000/50? It doesn't put a speed on it at all…

      • +1

Home Ultrafast is actually the name for gigabit.

        • +1

For some reason my brain read Telstra… haha my bad!!

          • @frankyman: Telstra have 100/20 for HFC and FTTP. If your on anything else it's 50/20.

  • Got some few questions please. I've got FTTP. Is the plan 1000/50Mbps only available to select areas atm like Launtel is?

Will the modem that came with the original NBN bundle will be suffice to run this high speed plan? Thanks.

    • +1

FTTP 1000/50 = all locations with ABB.
I assume you mean your router, they vary in max speed wired/wireless you will have to give exact model for someone to estimate (will work just many at lower speed).

      • Thanks. Might give ABB a call. How hard (easy) is it to change ISP? I'm currently on TPG with NBN Plan.

        • +2

FTTP couldn't be easier (might only take 5 min), they just put it on the next available port so if you already have a service on UNI-D1 they put it on UNI-D2. (so you have two services until you cancel one) (remember ABB use IPoE/DHCP/AutoIP (no user/password)(and no VLAN ID), not PPPoE on your router)

  • +1

Initial speed test in 800+ mbs now its struggling over 150mbs. Any ideas??

    • noticed the exact same thing this morning too.

  • +5

Just connected this morning on HFC and got 950/40 on speedtest.net now

Total of my time took for this changeover = 15 Mins (On phone and rebooting NTD (NBN black box) and Telstra Router)

    Whole process review = Unbelievable

I thought this was too good to be true.

Called and spoke to them as I tried checking what speed tier I was eligible for and it only said 250mbps, I was bummed out. Customer service representative then went to confirm with her team leader what I could truly get and she said I was eligible for the 1Gbps plan. Immediately signed on and she initiated the churn from my current 100/40 Telstra High Speed Boost Plan to the Aussie Broadband.

Took about 40mins time for the churn to finish and best decision I have made.

Their support and tech's are all located in Melbourne so no out sourcing of support to the Phillipines or India.

This is the service Australia needs, also support local businesses by doing this.

I asked her how this is all possible, she said the boss of ABB invested about 20million dollars into infrastructure for this.

The big boss of ABB also said that he reckons Google Nest Router is one of the best for this connection to handle throughput.

If you got $$$ grab the UNIFI Dream Machine, perfect for this plan and great technology on it.

I'm currently stil using my Telstra Smart Moden Gen 2 White and am getting good speeds so not sure if I will change it - Mind you still need to cancel my Telstra internet now and hopefully will let me keep their router ;)

Any questions guys please ask me as I want everyone to experience this awesome internet and give most info to people!

Edit 1: I also forgot to add they have an app on app store called "My Aussie" it literally shows you the whole process of your NBN service changing to them, this is literally the most transparent Broadband company I have come across and the App works perfectly! You can also add primary and authorised contacts to your account so no pissfarting around when someone calls on your behalf for internet issues and can't receive support cause they're not an authorised contact, looking at you Telstra.

    • I asked the same question and they had no idea what I was talking about. Said whatever the website shows is accurate

      • The girl I spoke to this morning was very switched on and helpful. Her name started with E. Won’t disclose due to privacy but straight away she was helpful. Just ask them to check your address if it’s eligible for the 1gpbs plan.

      • spoke to someone on live chat and had the same. said it shows 250mbs and that's what you can get. If can get 1Gbps plan might have switched over.

      • Their NBN plan page is not accurate. I have FTTP and it's not showing the Gigabit plan.

Look up your address here and check the TC-4 speed.

    • +1

Cost of the Telstra smart modem is $9 a month over 24 months. You pay the remaning cost if there is any.

      • +1

Ah ok that’s awesome info, thanks Twix, I’ve definitely paid it off then, are you getting on the 1000/50 deal?

        • +1

          Thinking about it :-)

    • If you got $$$ grab the UNIFI Dream Machine, perfect for this plan and great technology on it.

Unless you want to do DPI or other security related things, I wouldn't bother. Most modern routers can route at Gigabit just fine.

As much as I like UniFi for wireless, never been a fan of their USG routers. Just lacking in features and generally uncustomisable compared to pfSense.

      • What features are lacking that the UDM does not have? Just curious
It is pretty bang for your buck but the UDM as it is an All-in-1 Router, Great AP and Security Gateway.

        • I personally find its lack of NAT hairpinning/loopback a constant source of bother.

    • hey did u cancel your Telstra plan before or after you got this plan?

    • hey, got a few questions about moving from Telstra to Aussie broadband i.e did u cancel your Telstra plan before or after you got this plan…. etc …. can u pm me so I can ask the rest
      thanks

      • Hi eckers19, happy to help! How do I PM you? My account on OZB is fairly new and i'm still getting around using it haha. Can you PM me?

        • Can’t it says you don’t accept pms?

        • Think when you press on my account and it will msgs below that then u press accept private msgs on the top of msg page I tbink

  • Currently with Vodafone NBN- I just signed up to ABBs new gigabit plan and have FTTP. Do I simply switch the cables to the correct port and I'm connected like nothing happened?

    • +1

Yep pretty much because each UNI-D port is a service so basically ABB will put their service on another port as Vodafone NBN currently probbaly has your UNI-D port 1. I saw this answer above also, I don't have FTTP so I might be wrong:

Costanza - FTTP couldn't be easier (might only take 5 min), they just put it on the next available port so if you already have a service on UNI-D1 they put it on UNI-D2. (so you have two services until you cancel one) (remember ABB use IPoE/DHCP/AutoIP (no user/password)(and no VLAN ID), not PPPoE on your router)

    • +1

What Section said is right :-)

Cancel Vodafone or they keep charging you each month.

  • When this deal was posted i put in my address and was able to select the gigabit option (i'm on HFC). Today when I do so, I don't see the gig plan, just the 250/25. Wonder what happened. Perhaps the uptake was too much?

    • NBN back peddled on their promise of 800,000 premises at launch. Only 7% of HFC got access to 1000mbps at launch and 70% got access to 250mbps; they are progressively rolling out the higher speed tiers to more premises.

      • 2 weeks ago when I was ordering I had 250/25. ABB guy told me I could do the 1 free month of 100/20 then switch to 250/25. NBN connection installed today and now ABB are saying the highest speed I can get is 100/40. So I switched from my 115 telstra cable to 100. Great.

  • speed test only shows download 130mbps upload about 35mbp :| I'm using an Asus RTAC68U Gigabit router signed up to their 1500mbps plan - with FTTP- any suggestions as to why my speed is so low?

    • Connect to your router with an Ethernet cable and run the test again…

    • Turn off ASUSnat tunnel, QoS and spanning tree protocol.

      • thanks for the response. can't find ASUSnat tunnel, and STP, QoS was off. I did however switch to the 5ghz network and now download speeds are average 550mbps. I'll keep trouble shooting, hard thing is none of my computers have an ethernet connection so I'll need to go buy adapters before I test with ethernet cable.

        • Install Asuswrt-Merlin firmware to get the ASUSnat tunnel setting. Anything over 500Mbps with a wireless AC router is about as good as it gets. That is until you start using wireless AX router and devices. Use ethernet cables where possible.

          • @Twix: Hi Twix, I've got the Merlin software installed and can't find that setting. Which menu option would it be under? Cheers in advance

            • @[Deactivated]: Check tools, other settings or advanced tweaks and options.

            • @[Deactivated]: Thanks mate, spanning tree protocol did it for me. Turned that off and now I'm getting 930+ down, 40+ up which I'm very happy with. Not sure exactly what to do with it but at least I'm getting what I paid for :-)

        • You'll never see 1000Mbs over WiFi - 550Mbs is pretty good going !

          • @Nom: I get 940 over wifi

            • +1

              @bcstyle: With an Asus RTAC68U ?

              I don't believe you.

              • @Nom: No not with ac68u, with a gt ac11000. Forgot the initial talk was about the 68u.

  • I'm looking to change from Optus NBN to Aussie broadband..Would the Optus nbn modem work with Aussie broadband or I need to buy a new modem? Thanks.

    • +2

Yep. I signed up today from Telstra to ABB. (HFC). obviously the nbn supplied NTD modem is universal regardless of the RSP, and stays with the home. My telstra smart router works perfectly too, the settings are usually compatible with the changeover of ISP.

      • How's the speed? Thanks.

        • great, well exact same as Telstra. about 96/37 on the 100/40

    • Yeah Optus routers are compatible with Aussie.

      • +1

        Thanks mate! :)

  • 850/43 not bad!

  • Signed up earlier this week, Gigabit to the house - uhhhhhh (Randy_in_the_relief_hut.jpg)

This was 4:30pm on a weedkay afternon

    https://imgur.com/mHlR6i2

Whats that, equivalent to about 880mbit?

    Approved.

  • +3

Just curious. What do you guys do with a 10x jump in download speed? My HFC can support gigabit but am trying to justify the $720 extra per year.

Is everyone running 20x Netflix 4k streams?

    • I concur, I bought it and I'm wondering the same. 4K video was fine on Netflix before with 100/40. I guess downloading games, windows updates etc will be faster. Not noticing it in general day to day though.

    • Video games.

And for the highly cultured connoisseurs 4k and even 8k videos of every kind of content.. yes some of us run 1000TB storage to uh store the internet lol.

Personally I would love to start my own archive of stuff that I think will be going down or not heavily mirrored or backed up on the internet.

I forget now but there have certainly been some stuff on the internet that would have been nice to keep.

There was a time when I had a dream of setting some 100+ inch 8k TV streaming native 8k and some 16k content on loop and just staring into the super insane resolution basically drifting off into the digital sky.

A bit far fetched and quite crazy I know but my mind for some reason went there for a few years.

Now I am just happy if I can send an email or post a comment on ozbargain lol.

  • +2

Any new discount code for Aussie?

  • I downgraded again immediately. A lot of money for impatience.

    • Yeah if it was not for my pushy other household members I could live on a cheap 12/1 unlimited plan probably at $45/month with Flip TV or Flip Connect or something..

My needs are not that heavy but living with others is always messy.

  • Ah well I am fine with 50/20 for the rest of eternity.. as long as my other household members don't get an appetite for high bandwidth activities I should be able to live with this for life.

  • I signed up for the free month of 100/20 because ABB support told me I'd be able to switch to 250/25 (it was definitely available) after the first month. NBN tech came today to set it up, and now the highest I can get is 100/40. Wtf happened? I could not be any more annoyed as I don't care about upload so it's officially a downgrade for me from the Telstra cable I already had (and spent an hour on the phone cancelling today)

    • Probably you have FTTC technology?

      • No it's HFC, I think when the NBN tech came to install it, my line was actually tested and NBN deemed I couldn't get 250, whereas before they just assumed I would be able to. I still think I would be able to as even with 100/20 I'm getting minimum 105/20 in peak times.
