  • do they have account keeping fees?

    • -1

yes, unless the balance is over $2000

    • +3

"No monthly fee: We’ll waive the monthly account fee when you deposit $2000 or more a month."- Website

    • Also no account fee's for students and under 18's

      • And if you have $50 000 with them, they waive it too.

    • Yup, unless / until you deposit $2K / mon into your acc't

Still NO COMPETITION for OUR ING Direct accounts… AND…
we just got our $100 bonus for doint the same (for 3 mon's) :-)

No fees forever, even without depostiting $ into our acc'ts.

PS Watch CLASS-ACTION LAW SUIT on (was it ANZ's?) bank fees

If court decides there's been a Breech of Contract, eg,
because [some] bank fees (eg, for attempts to w/d over
balance, etc.) were substantially MORE costly to Customer
than the "offense" was to the bank… REFUNDS to Customers.

And… that decision could spread to other banks' fees…

So… with some luck & favorable final decisions…
banks might HAVE TO follow ING Direct's example &
reduce their fees (if not to ING Direct's ZERO level,
then to levels that are near their [neglible] costs).

Case starts this week, I think… Watch it & see.

Wow… so much for loyalty, give new customers $100 but nothing to people that have had the account since birth…

    • +19

if you've been with the cba for that long then they've already screwed you by alot more than $100 :)

    • I'll suggest it to the CBA office for you. See what they say.

  • +12

Where is the deal for customers that have been with the bank for years?

    • +17

Damn straight, I've been a loyal customer (sucker) since they signed me up with a dollarmite account when I was about 10.

There is no benefit in being loyal to companies, the only way to benefit is from switching to different companies any time you find a good 'new customer' deal.

      • +2

I started as a dollarmite too… honestly, the only thing keeping me with CBA is the effort to change my details everywhere!

I did send in a complaint along these lines - about how new customers are treated much better than us, and they have waived fees on my account and credit card for a year, and passed on my concerns. It'd be nice if we all got the same 'deal' (ie, $0 monthly fees with $2000 deposited monthly).

        • About a year ago I received a phone call from CBA saying that since I'd been a loyal customer for so many years (started with a dollarmite account) that they'd waive my fees as long as I deposited more than $2000 a month. At the time I just assumed all existing customers were getting this deal…. guess not.

It was good timing on their part as I was close to switching banks to avoid the above mentioned fees.

        • Well the fact that they got rid of dollarmite accounts because it wasn't profitable enough (kids have small savings amounts), that should be a clue as to their nature of business.

        • Seeing dollarmite mentioned here brought back nolstagic memories, and then scrolling down a little further only to find it's no longer offered… so sad.

    • ING Direct responded to similar responses by finding a way for exist'g Customers to earn their $100 bonus… Dep 2000 / mon for 3 months
not too onus… we just got ours :-)

And… there was NO limit to the # of winners…

C'wlth Bank just can't compete with an "almost branchless" bank…

ING Direct strikes me as being an innovative "Geek's bank" :-)

      "Disrupting" the Banking industry! (Cheers)

      C'wth Bank strikes me as… well… WAY behind. :-/

  • $100 will be credited by 21/12/11 to the NetBank Saver account of the first 10,000 customers who satisfy all eligibility criteria.

so the race to open an account and make 5 purchases begins …

    • It only says use the card (issued for the Everyday account) a minimum of five (5) times by 14/12/2011.There is no competition for this.only for opening accounts.

      • from t&cs http://www.commbank.com.au/personal/accounts/100foryou-tandc…

.5. To enter, individuals must satisfy the Eligibility Requirements and:

Open a new Everyday account and a new NetBank Saver account (at the same time) through a Commonwealth Bank branch between 03/10/2011 and 31/10/2011; and

Use the card (issued for the Everyday account) a minimum of five (5) times by 14/12/2011.

.8. The first 10,000 entrants who fulfil the entry requirements in accordance with clause 5 will receive $100 deposited into their NetBank Saver account by 21/12/11.

looks like a race to me. you've got to satisfy all eligibility requirements

  • well cant u just closed off all your accounts and re-opened them.
Even thought its gonna be a hassle doing it, maybe to some its worth the $100 bonus.

  • +6

how about for existing acount? no loyalty program or benefits for staying with CBA?

  • +4

Why would they give loyal customers benefits. This is a marketing ploy to increase customer base and get back customers who switched over

    • +1

because its also a good idea to keep loyal those who are already loyal. providing bonuses to new customers and excluding the ones who have been with the bank for years, is a great way to lose those loyal customers.

      • they don't have to do anything to keep you. For most people it's not worth the effort to change over to another bank and even if you did, they still earned interest on keeping your money for the period of time with them.

And this ploy might get those customers back who bothered to switch over in the first place. For Every ozbargainer, there are much more people who won't abandon CBA.

  • +4

maybe we should switch over and switch back :-) Isn't it more expensive for banks to loose customer and winning them back?

  • +2

Whoever takes up the offer, take your money and switch banks - CBA are not as friendly for existing customers!

Got burnt by CBA and now feeling better with another (not sure how long the new one is going to look after!)

    • I'm an ex cba customer, been with the anz for 6 years and haven't looked back

    • Take a look at the Class-Action case to be heard from this week…

      (Thanks, MonstersInc for the Link…)

In addition to the claim that may win some bank's Customers a REFUND of some over-size fees…

there was a report that they may help Customers go after fees, ie,
when the Bank(s) screwed-up (eg, when a friend's NAB account showed
three (3) instances of the SAME, WRONGLY taken (& unexplained) fee)

Watch this case for hints of a very different banking industry in AU,
      in future.

"" of the first 10,000 customers who satisfy all eligibility criteria.""

Sorry sucker, you were # 10,001 to use your credit card 5 times!

    Pass on this one.

    • It only says "use your Commonwealth Bank card at least five times on purchases by December 14."It didn't say this has to be within 10,000 of people.

  • They should give me a hundred bucks for making me suffer through their godawful TV ads.

  • +1

    This seems too fishy :S

    • Would you like chips with it?

  • +1

who knows when it's 10,000 customers? fishy ads!

and I can't stand their customer service's line: Cero Cero Two, Cero Cero One….

  • +1

Opened a netbank account the last time around so I could get the $100 bonus for the credit card but my application was rejected. Now I already have an account so won't eligible for this. :(

  • +1

Has anyone actually recieved the $100 for opening a credit card with them last time?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50600

I'm yet to see a thing. And I forgot to save/print the offer page/terms and conditions. Going to give them a call this week.

    • +1

NOPE! I applied for a credit card but the dodgy people there denied any knowledge regarding the bonus.
Result, I got a credit card from another bank!

    • i didn't apply for the credit card but i did take up the $100 offer on opening a transaction account earlier on in the year and i got paid

      • how long did it take?

        • wasn't long, about two weeks. you really need to check what the t&cs say about payment date.

    • Hi, yes I got $100 credit on 1/9 when i opened by c/card on 10/8, but i'm gonna close it this week anyway.

  • +2

Note that there is a chance you WON'T get your $100 despite following all the instructions.

It's the first 10,000 customers that complete them all.

  • if you already have a netbank saver and a everday account whats stopping you either converting them to a goal saver or closing them and reopening them at a branch? would you still qualify for the $100 offer?

    • Opened accounts today, after closing Everyday A/c few days ago. Told I qualify for $100 (after 5 purchases by December 14). Also as a pensioner, there are no account fees & get some free over the counter service.

  • When I stopped being a student and started working full time they started charging me the monthly account fee. I rang them up to complain, citing the 2000 per month deposit rule and they said something along the lines of,
Oh are you sure you're getting charged? You shouldn't be". Then they actually had a look at the account, refunded the charges and made sure I wouldn't get charged the monthly fees while depositing 2000 a month. If you're getting charged these account fees, give them a call and they will hopefully fix it.

    I also want a free 100 for being a customer. :(

  • Do these accounts need to be opened in branch? Can be opened online or on the phone?

    • I just rang the CBA to confirm I qualified (because I already have several CBA accounts, though not an everyday)
      They said I can qualify.
Then they offered to open the two accounts over the phone.
Excellent (because I thought I would have to visit a branch, as it says in the ad)

  • The CBA call centre also said the accounts will be "flagged as qualifying" for $100 cashback between the 15 and 21 December.
So it sounds like no $100 til then.
    Still worth the wait.

  • arent most ozbargainer converted to CBA over the free movie tickets offer already 2 months back? :)

  • most people can't get this offer. e.g. family and friends around me all have a cba account at some point of time in life here. so hot kiss goodbye $100!

  • ok i know you can open via call centre and at a branch to qualify what about if you open it up via net banking and dont have a everyday account will you still be eligible?

  • I only found out about this offer on the 23rd of oct, I read first 10000 customers only, I assumed I likely have missed out by them and did not want to waste my 'no account holder yet' ammunition until the next offer.

I am pretty sure they will not give you $100 if you are over the customer limit, it is abit of a scam I think because there will be many people signing up and not reading the fine print of the 10k customer limit.

  • What the?! Their terms and conditions page seems to have been taken offline.

Good thing I found a google cache of it:
